This charming shop for groceries & gifts is known for its grass-topped roof with resident goats.

This shop is super fun and creative — they sell all kinds of tasty food and souvenirs. And the goats on the roof are absolutely adorable! If you’re ever driving by, definitely stop and check it out.”
Coombs Market is such a fun and unique stop on Vancouver Island. The goats on the roof are definitely a must-see attraction! The deli inside the grocery store has a great selection—we picked up some delicious treats. The veggie market offered plenty of fresh fruits and local produce. We also tried the doughnuts, which were fresh and tasty. Overall, it’s a great place to shop, grab a bite, and enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
I was definitely skeptical when someone recommended this place. I thought for sure there would be ceramic goats or something on the roof... But nope, I was wrong. There definitely WAS a goat on the roof, just hanging out. I was certainly surprised. It was super busy but I did manage to snap a photo and take a quick video. Definitely a place worth to check out. Lots of unique items inside the market place itself with a dining room as well for some good food. Be sure to checkout the produce market up the road as well as I was able to get some fresh apples.
Such a charming and cheerful place with a great vibe. The goats on the roof are so cute and make the whole experience unforgettable. Inside, there’s a wonderful selection of local treats, souvenirs, and delicious food — I especially loved the bakery! It’s the perfect little stop for both fun and relaxation. Definitely a must-visit spot on Vancouver Island!
What a charming and unique stop! There's truly something for everyone here - shops, food, gifts, and of course, the famous goats on the roof! I loved wondering through the market and soaking up the rustic charm. Picked up some delicious coffee and a few treats to bring back home to Ontario. Definitely worth the visit if you're in the area!
Cool little eclectic place, only complaint is that most of the goods were made in China. More Canadian goods would make it that much better. We had an unusual lunch of smoked salmon, cherries, peaches and topped off with a donut from Billy G’s. It was a good experience to visit and would recommend anyone to stop in and visit.
No goats on the roof when we went but it is such an AMAZING market. So many things from sweets to deli to fresh pastry and hot food. Toys and kids items to unique finds. Soooop much to take if you could spend half a day here checking out the options. 100% a much stop
The donuts are RICH but delicious 🤤 Took us a few days to finish them, but so worth it! Love the variety of flavours, colors and textures—makes it so hard to decide on top 6. Cute little walk through donut shop connected to the Old Country Market.

I have wanted to stop here for years and just never had the time - this year was different - we went and we will be back- it is very magical to have all the different butterflies flying over you and between you as you do the little circle tour. It’s not a big place but there are so many butterflies and cool interactive hatching displays and an orchid garden that you are more than happy- the $14 admission goes to a good cause and the gift shop is really great- we got earrings made from butterfly wings
Absolutely loved visiting Butterfly World!! 1000% would recommend stopping if you enjoy butterfly’s and flowers. A small greenhouse like dome that you can walk through and watch the butterfly’s up close. There are so many different types all flying about and eating fruit. There are places to sit on benches and sometime a butterfly will get curious and land on you if you are still enough. There are some lil birds flying around inside too! The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable about the different species and types. With a cute little gift shop and a turtle pond outside this will be a permanent stop on our trips to Vancouver Island. For sure a great stop for those who love bugs.
We've been to several Butterfly Conservatories and this one is just as nice. It has a lovely layout with all the greenery and pretty flowers. We had a peaceful stroll through it while admiring the various butterflies and moths. The outside area is pretty also with a large pond and colourful foliage.
This was a very relaxing place to visit and watch the butterflies in the enclosed area with plants and flowers. We enjoyed it and there were several kids that seem to be having a good time with their parents looking at the butterflies. There's a small gift shop with butterfly related items. There was also a room specially designed for young kids with coloring activities and butterfly related games to play. Seniors price was $12. Adults price was $14. The orchid room connected to the butterfly habitat area had a few plants in it but nothing really all that special. We spent about an hour there.
This was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had! 10 out of 10 recommend! Also be sure to wear bright colors, the butterflies love it !
I love butterflies. It was so much fun. Lots of butterflies and exotic plants. And the butterflies were even landing on us. You should definitely try it.
Staff were very friendly! The place is very tidy and full of great books, information, and sooo many butterflies! All of the butterfly’s look happy and healthy with plenty of places to fly and forage.
Once you get used to the humidity in there, it’s actually a fun experience! Walking around the path, looking at all the butterflies chasing each other around was amazing. Sometimes they’ll even land on you (but the staff encourage you not to let that happen as it can mess up the lifespan). Overall, for $30 for two people after taxes, this is definitely a good way to kill an hour of your time and take some awesome pictures as well.

This farm is a great place to bring children to play. The ticket price is not expensive, allowing people to easily enter the farm and experience rural life. There are many activities here, children can ride horses, feed small animals, and even experience rural activities such as driving a tractor. These activities not only allow children to experience rural life, but also to learn a lot about rural knowledge and skills.
Hamilton Hobby Farm is a fun, laid-back place that feels like it’s run by a local family. There’s an admission fee, and most activities cost extra, so be prepared for that. The farm itself feels a bit older and rustic, but it has a lot of animals to see, which my kids loved. When we visited, it was a really hot day. One of the staff noticed a bunny overheating and needing a nap, so instead of petting the bunny, my kids got to pet chickens—which they still enjoyed! There are goats climbing on the roof (one even chewed a hole in my skirt!), and you can buy chicken feed for extra money. There’s a bumpy hayride and a donkey ride, but there’s only one donkey and one family member running both activities. You have to ask for the tractor ride, and the family seems a bit overworked. Overall, it was a good experience for the kids, and we enjoyed seeing all the animals up close. It has a unique, homey feel and is worth a visit if you’re looking for a simple, family-run farm outing.
Hamilton Hobby Farm is the best petting farm around! So many friendly animals — chickens, Muscovy ducks, goats, horses, donkeys, an emu, and adorable rabbits. The pony ride was a big hit! Super fun, family-friendly place. Highly recommend!
Visited here twice in the past few weeks, we love the animals and the people who work here are nice. The entry fee is 100% worth it. Me and my partner love the baby goats, emu and the donkeys
Experienced a strange visit to the farm today - purchased admission for 4 adults and a 5 year old, chicken feed and a pony ride. Did not feel welcome - felt as though the employee didn’t want to be there, and the pony ride was a quick lap around the ring with zero communication. Definitely put a damper on the experience.
We have gone here a few times more and my son is OBSESSED. The owners are also very kind and welcoming ♡ it's a truly beautiful place with a big heart , lots to do and see ! They had a amazing Easter event our there and we all had an incredible time , giant pancake breakfast as well ♡
Fun little farm for the kids to explore. The kids loved the goats and bunnies. The pony rides were also a big hit. There were some nice shaded tables to sit at and a tot toy area which was a bit run down but my children adored. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was a great stop.
Fun little farm to visit for an hour or two. They have goats, pigs, ducks, three different kinds of chickens, horses, and an emu. They were very friendly and my son loved the play area.

If you are at Goats on the Roof or surrounding area, you must go across the bridge and check out Coastal Carvings Gallery. This gallery is full of high quality art pieces that anyone would be proud to own and display. Even if you are not in the market the visit is worth your time. The workmanship of the carvings and furniture is amazing. The paintings shown in the posted video are powerful with a deep beauty that has to be seen to truly appreciate. Jeremy is very approachable, knowledgeable, and friendly. He has the story behind every artist and every piece… which adds to the experience. On this trip I did not have a lot of time to fully explore and appreciate the art… I will be back.
This place is a must visit if you are in the area. I was amazed when my friend and I walked in to the place. The artwork is beautiful. Jeremy made this a great experience and took the time to explain the art to us and some back story on the artists. You will rarely meet someone as passionate as Jeremy is, and also as skilled! Not only does he support local indigenous artists and has created an amazing place for them to showcase their art, but he is also a talented artist himself - be sure to look through the display books to see his skills. Even if you are not in the market for the art, it is worth the stop just for the appreciation of the beauty and the learning experience. This place will be a staple stop on my visits from now on.
This gallery is full of amazing works. In a small, unassuming building on the side of the highway, there are wonders inside to marvel at. Kathleen, who oversees the gallery is extremely knowledgeable about the pieces and the artists.
Amazing display of First Nations People work. One of a kind unique fine crafted wood and metal work designed specifically for home decor in your classic home. Or shop directly for an unique gift from the gallery with the help of the friendly owner. It was a delightful visit!
Top drawer gallery! It took a while but I was so pleased that my Ray Bob consigned painting found a good home. Jeremy and Shelley were wonderful. They have a great knowledge and I highly recommend that you visit the gallery if you have a chance.
Aside from the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff, this gallery is truly unique. One-of-a-kind art, craftsmanship, attention to detail. The art will move you.
Beautiful art by wonderful people!
This was my highlight of stopping at Coombs. Although I'm not in a place in my life to purchase such beautiful art, Kathleen made us feel welcome and showed us around the gallery. Truly beautiful works of art and I will recommend your gallery to everyone I know.

The best store! So much interesting stuff you cant find anywhere else , the store travel everywhere and bring neat things back to sell
My absolute favourite store. I am from out of province but I never miss my yearly shopping trip (or two, or three) when I visit the Island each year. The staff are so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and the clothes and jewelry are gorgeous. I cannot recommend this place enough!
Lots of fun, always stellar display and styling by colours or tones. Usually some "parisienne" style music or 20s jazz in the background setting the mood. Love the little house in the woods with rooms filled with themes of clothes and accessories. Always will find a treasure or two . Great scarves and the best fashionable collection of reading glasses in the area. Note that as a boutique, most items are 1-2 per size and small is always gone when I visit :) But fun to get inspired and the women who run and own this biz are so in love with what they do that its lots of fun. They are great a styling people in their flowy boho meets comfy modern aesthetic. Don't miss the secondary building called House of Leave which also has clothing and accessories. Prices are definitely on the high end, but always there are non clothing items at all price points.
Lovely shops. When it's busy it can me overwhelming inside but definitely worth the time. New stuff arriving always! You can walk around 3 times and still discover gems that you haven't seen in their lovely displays. Great cards also!
Nice place to poke around. Usually find something to buy. Clothing suited for middle aged ladies...but I'm 50, and I would not wear most of what's there. However, my mom who is 70 loves the clothes. Staff are friendly and accommodating!
Beautiful atmosphere, very nice staff. The gentleman is energetic and very friendly. He offered us their tea samples for the day; very delicious! The shop is quaint, well stocked with small nick-knacks and clothing. Considering where they get most of their product its consoderably priced but some items were a bit out of proce ramge for what they were. However that assesment is from someone on a budget. Overall i love that shop. I have been there twice and brought a new person with me to show them how adorable their product is.
Great unique fun shop(s). Website is not up to par with location, products & fun. Service could be improved with 1 more per shop as 2 on not enough with 1 at cash. Open 11-4 so busy with browsers, lookers & buyers. Great colour coordination pkgs and various items for all films of the hose. Spent $$$ & enjoyed it and the items got for gifts & self.
A unique gift shop in a beautiful woodland setting.

Solid selection of west coast inspired pottery. Their collection is supplied by various artists. Something for everyone and all occasions.
Definitely check this out if you're in Coombs. It has the work of six local potters who also take turns running the store. Unique items at reasonable prices (for hand made pottery). Worth walking over.
What a fabulous find in Coombs, a community art gallery for enthusiastic island potters to showcase their creations for the public. Come browse the gift shop and meet the potters. Good prices for quality work!
This place is full of both beautiful pieces of art and usable items for the home. They have everything from butter dishes to the most stunning glazed vases and platters. A must visit when on the island for sure!
Pyromania has incredibly beautiful pottery showcased in an array of natural colours on wooden shelves. There is a sense of awe when you walk in and see the pottery styles and glazes, including raku, waiting to go home with you. You will feel the accomplished work that goes into each piece when you pick one up.
The prices were very reasonable, especially for hand made art. The workmanship and creativity of design and shape is excellent. One of the owners was there and he was very friendly and knowledgeable about all the artists work. I really like that it's a coop of 3 artists that take turns in the shop. All around great experience and we can't wait for the car mugs to be made!!!
This was my favourite pottery stop on Vancouver Island. It was filled with so many unique and beautiful pieces I had to restrain myself from buying too much. If you’re considering going, do it! Check out the amazing artistry.
Gorgeous pottery, made locally by 7 artists. Knowledgeable staff as the artists take turns working in the shop. Also a variety of gift items available. Open 7 days a week, 11 til 4.

Hands down the best antiques store I’ve been to! Upon initial entry it appears like you normal antique store, but then as you start walking around you start realizing they have rooms upon rooms of amazing antiques! It honestly left us feeling like kids in a candy store the entire time we were there! The worker (older gentleman, not sure if owner), was also fantastic and super nice and knowledgeable! Will 200% be back again whenever we’re in the area!!
The best antique store I've ever been to. The owners were super friendly and seem very knowledgable as well. Everything is super well-organized (as much as it really can be in an antique shop!) and prices are well marked with helpful signage regarding items. I will definitely return anytime I am in the area. The prices seem relatively reasonable as well, which is awesome. There is seriously everything here; beautiful jewelry, toys, vases, bottles and jars, skulls, and so much depression glass!!!!! I would love to have a shop like this one day, it felt like I had entered my dream world. I felt sorry not being more sociable with the owners... I'm from Vancouver, and not used to people being so friendly!!
This was a wild surprise! We could have spent hours in this place looking at everything, there is 7 + rooms of vintage collectibles , a definite blast from the past!
Kinda weird atmosphere. Everything felt very overpriced. The Internet says they close at 5:30, and when I got there at 4:30 the open sign was still on. However, when I went inside I was met by the glaring store owners. I proceeded to poke around, and when I walked back past them they explained the store layout to me and then told me they were closing soon. When I asked when they closed they told me 4:30, and I said the Internet said 5:30, and was told that was their “summer hours”, as well as “that must be for a different store” when it most definitely was for their store. It’s June, so it’s kind of hard to know when im allowed in the store as the sign doesn’t specify the months of summer. Another customer walked into the store (since the door and website says open until 5:30…) and instead of telling them or myself that they are closed, the woman at the til muttered something to the other owner about how they should’ve locked the door. I left promptly as the atmosphere felt very hostile. Its unfortunate as I’ve always been meaning to go into this store but likely will not be back due to the aggressive behaviour.
Red Door Treasures is our favourite store on Vancouver island! Our son Austin collects vintage trains and they always have a great selection at reasonable prices. The owners are extremely friendly and go above and beyond for us. Yesterday, we were running behind and they stayed open a little past closing which made our little boys day. Definitely go check out their treasures!
This place has the most varied collection of antiques. The man behind the desk is very helpful and knowledgeable. A friend has been here multiple times and always has a good experience. A great place for collectors.
Absolutely the most interesting shop I have come across on Vancouver Island. Tom and Pat are very knowledgeable of their collectables and the selection is extraordinary. Great place to purchase gift cards for those hard to buy for friends and family. Open 7days a week. Incredible.
Good selection of vintage items. However, many things are very overpriced for what you get and don't get me started about the woman at the cashier! She creeps around the store, shouting at you if you so much as open the door of a model car! I understand she doesn't want customers breaking items, but this is ridiculous!
