We enjoyed our tour of the museum. It's a little on the small side as far as this type of attraction, but the price is very reasonable. The young woman did a great job taking us on a guided tour!
->worth the cost of admission<- Stopped here to take photos of the old Midway train station-house (the original "mile 0" of the KVR) and stretch our legs. Saw that this appeared to be a part of the (next door) museum. No signage specifically stating to "not enter unless you've bought admission" but we figured so, and went inside. Museum staff admitted its difficult to get people to pay for admission (it was $7.50 CAD each) but you know what? We enjoyed it very much. The main museum was all about life in the Kettle Valley area and the yard-part was the station house, bunkhouse and caboose. Beautiful artifacts they have here, carefully displayed. Staff and volunteers have done a great job. This seems to be a popular location for cyclists, too.
My 7yo son really enjoyed our visit here, from ringing the bell, to checking out the tools, to getting to go aboard an old train. I loved the art display in the building with the train station. The little trees, train, and figurines were so well modeled, I began to get pangs of nostalgia for a time I was only familiar with because I had read some of the true anecdotes posted on the walls. Stories make it real. The people in these photos existed, they built lives, overcame obstacles, had families, contributed to the history of the province/country. We need places like this to remind us about how our country has developed over the years. It's a great learning and family experience. Starts conversations with your children about things that have meaning. Museums like this often operate on donations, so it's important we check out little gems like this when we have a little extra time in a small town. Let's keep these memory repositories in business, they are important teaching tools.
This is the most precious museum. You can tell many people spent countless hours putting this together with hundreds of thousands of dollars of artifacts. They had great captions on the items, and you could get so close to the antiques. We highly recommend stopping by here. It's a national treasure.
Very interesting things inside the museum. Was great to see the history of the area and all the old photos and items from old times.
What a great museum. Step back in time with house, store and other rooms set up as they would have been. Friendly informative staff. A great way to learn about how the railway and communities developed.
great little interactive blast from the past.....the curator was extremely knowledgeable and kind. Well worth five dollars for a visit....
What a Gem! If you live anywhere in the area this is an absolute must visit to understand the history on how the railroad was such a positive impact on the valley. The Curator and staff are amazingly knowledgeable and the museum is interactive for all ages.
