Simply amazing experience. We actually went here as a detour because the national park for the volcano had flooded. We were all glad we ended up doing this instead. Our guide Richard was so friendly patient and knowledgeable. You think you're going to get a chocolate tour but it's so much more! He explained all kinds of different plants and insects. Things I never even expected to see. Rubber trees, vanilla beans, cocoa trees, stevia, coconuts, pineapples, frankincense, cinnamon, limes, square bananas, star fruit, sour cane, electric numbing plant, and even more I can't even remember. So much more than we ever expected. We are so glad we did this. After the tour you get to see how they process the chocolate and boy does it make you appreciate the time and labor that goes into it. At the very end you get a chocolate drink and can purchase chocolate bars at very reasonable prices. I can't recommend it enough!
We were in Costa Rica for a week and this was one of our top tours! The farm is beautiful and there’s a rain forest tour included as well! Learning about the process of growing, harvesting and making chocolate gives me a lot of respect for the farmers and a whole new appreciation for good chocolate enjoyment! We want to thank Erica for her knowledge and amazing machete skills! We enjoyed coconuts, cocoa seeds, a banana and more! They have a great souvenir shop as well! Highly recommend this tour while you’re in the area!!
Went for a chocolate tour but came away with an amazing experience learning about wildlife, fruits, plants, the rainforest on top of learning about the cacao. Went during low season so no one else was there. Paid $18 per person for almost 2 hours because our guide, Juan Castillo, gave us a very thorough tour. He was patient, explained things well, and showed us so many amazing things on the property.
We're lucky to have a personal tour. Started with a delicious cup of chocolate. Tour guide spoke great English and was very knowledgeable of plants and animals. Tried several different fruits and ended with a Chocolate making lesson and samples.
Unexpected Detour Turned Into a Highlight of Our Trip! Our small group of friends had planned to visit Volcano National Park, but due to heavy rains, it was temporarily closed the day before our visit. Looking for something else to do, we stumbled upon Tree Chocolate Tour and decided to give it a shot—we had a couple of hours to explore, so why not? We were brought to an area where people were working the land and introduced to a man named Richard. Although he wasn’t scheduled to give tours that day, he graciously stepped in and welcomed us with open arms. He led us on a relaxed and easy hike through the property, pointing out various plants and wildlife along the way. We were amazed by his deep knowledge of the plants and their many uses. One highlight was the oldest tree on their land, estimated to be between 300 and 400 years old—its towering canopy was breathtaking. To top it all off, Richard invited us to try out a swing that soared at least 100–150 feet up into the treetops. You couldn’t even tell where it was attached—it was like flying through the jungle canopy. Richard spoke English very well, which was a blessing since our group only knew a little Spanish. He made us feel welcomed and gave us an experience we’ll never forget. If you're looking for an authentic, educational, and unexpectedly magical experience in Costa Rica, I highly recommend visiting Tree Chocolate Tour. A heartfelt thank you to Richard and the owners—you gave us a truly blessed day. Saludos cordiales.
This was a beautiful place where the owner took us on a tour of his chocolate forest. He also had vanilla, bananas, and coconuts. It was beautiful and interesting. Afterwards he showed us how to process the chocolate and then fed us a delicious meal. i was fully prepared to stay there!!
What a great hidden gem! We were planning on going to Tenorio Volcano National Park in Bijagua. When we arrived there we were told it was closed due to a rain wash out the day before. So we jumped back in the car and took off exploring trying to find something to salvage the day and drive time we wasted. Not too far away we saw signs for Tree Chocolate Tour. What a great surprise! Richard was our guide, and it could not be any more perfect! Richard was very knowledgeable, very nice, and very entertaining. His English was also practically perfect…and he had only learned 6 months prior. The tour included pointing out, explanation of, and hands on lessons on many different flowers, plants, animals, medicinal plants, and Costa Rica. Richard was extremely detailed in all of his explanations. He was even kind enough to push me and my friends on a very long swing through the forest. The walk through the plantation was not difficult at all. It was well shaded and comfortable. Just make sure to apply insect repellant beforehand. After the plantation tour, we were given a demonstration on processing the coca bean. Don’t forget to try the delicious chocolate milk. They also have a great gift shop. Richard did a great job explaining the different products they produce. He patiently and quietly stands by while you shop in case you have any questions. Tree Chocolate Tour was a highlight of our trip, and that was mostly a result of Richard’s dedication to his profession as a tour guide. We felt very fortunate that he was working and was there when we showed up (without a reservation). Check out Tree Chocolate Tour when you are in the area, and be sure to ask for Richard!
We did this tour today with the best guide!! We learned a lot of nature and cacao. Realy a very good and nice tour. We saw a baby sloth today on the ground. So very special!! I love them.
