Huge surrealist sculptures & structures in the jungle created by 20th-c. art patron Edward James.

A visionary jungle dream come to life How do you even begin to imagine building massive, “unfinished” and seemingly “useless” concrete structures in the middle of a lush Mexican jungle? You’d have to be a wildly imaginative—and extravagantly wealthy—visionary like Edward James. Fueled by his surrealist spirit (and perhaps some chemical inspiration), he created something truly unique: Las Pozas, a garden where fantasy and nature entwine. Thanks to his unconventional mind, we can now wander through giant stairways to nowhere, sculpted flowers of stone, and poetic ruins that invite awe at every turn. As Francis Bacon said, “The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery.” This place does exactly that. Note: only guided tours, advance booking is advisable
Be prepared to walk a lot, so many stairs. I like this place is definitely unique, a great experience, I just feel like I didn't see anything amazing, I was expecting more. Tour guides are great, they know so much and make the tour fun and interesting. Entrance is cheap, and it is better to buy tickets online because alot of people visit this place.
At the beginning the experience was not pleasant because of the price but it was worth it! Every penny. We had a tour guide in English and our group was very small so we enjoyed it the better. I highly recommend to visit in small groups.
An exceptional, awe-inspiring and unforgettable experience. I’m so happy this place exists. A reminder of the boundless nature of human creativity.
You have to make your reservation a couple of days before you go and once you are in to have to pay for the guide. There isn’t any other option but the guide we had was wonderful I really enjoyed every bit of was she explained. The view are beautiful and everything is so vibrant.
We did the immersion tour where you arrive an hour before they open and you pay a lot more for your tour. It's definitely a great way to see the gardens because now a days you can't wander around on your own. You always have to be escorted while you're here but the tour gives you a more intimate view. It's highly recommended if a bit pricey. Yes, a visit is definitely worth it and yes, you should visit but keep an open mind. Wonderful place.
Absolutely breathtaking. Stunning buildings and the waterfall was beautiful. Definitely a must-see if you’re visiting Xilitla. 5/5 stars
***Amazing*** We have so much fun, this place is simply amazing. We went in March and it wasn't that hot. I saw many comments before about the heat and humidity. Neither of those were issues for us. Because of the drought that was affecting the entire world on the time of my visit, there was very little water and some pozas were completely dried. Hope that when you visit the park will have more water ... Even with lack of water, I do recommend this place. The views and drive leading up to the park were breathtaking 🤩

Recommend to take comfortable shoes, water, or something to support your back if you have back problems. I loved it, you have to go down a lot of steps, there are stations where you can buy water, or they let you borrow a cane! Depending on the weather, rocks can be slippery, make sure you take slip resistant shoes. Note: don't forget to leave a little something for the volunteers. Couple of pesos! They are out there making sure you stay safe!
◉ The Cave of the Swallows, is an open-air cave in the municipality of Aquismón, San Luis Potosí, Mexico. The elliptical mouth, in a karst slope, is 49 by 62 m (154 by 200 ft) wide and is undercut around its entire perimeter, widening into a room approximately 303 by 135 metres (994 by 442 ft) wide. The cave floor is a free fall of 333 metres (1,092 ft) from the lower side of the opening, with a drop of 370 metres (1,214 ft) from the higher side, making it the largest known cave shaft in the world, the second deepest shaft in Mexico, and perhaps the 11th deepest fall in the world. Lists of deepest caves use different criteria, not pure drop, but accessibility. The floor and walls of the cave are inhabited by millipedes, scorpions, insects, snakes and birds. From the floor at the bottom of the main shaft there is a series of narrow shafts known as "The Crevice", totaling about 140 m (460 ft), which brings the total depth of the cave to 515 m (1,690 ft).
Locals warn you about the 700 steps to go down and climb back. But it’s easy and safe. I saw many seniors going down and up with their families or couples. Make sure to be there a little before 5:30 pm if you go in the afternoon. Bring water and comfortable and good tennis or hike shoes. There’s no comfortable place to sit, but it’s ok, remember you are in a natural spot, not in the movies! Enjoy this unique place and wonder of nature. Locals are doing a great job to make the experience safe, comfortable and organized. Be respectful to them and the basic rules.
Make sure early enough to watch this natural phenomenon. The birds start waking up at dawn and within 30 minutes most of them have flown away. Allow 20 minutes to reach the viewing point from the parking lot (it’s steep and dark, but there are steps).
Birds dive bomb the hole and cut the air it's a remarkable place to visit. Long bumpy road to get here, eat light.
The best experience of my life! You can't miss it. We stayed about 5 mins from the entrance, consider 30 mins to get to the parking area, then you cross the entrance by foot and go down about 500 stairs, make you sure you are there before 7 am, which is the time the swallows started to leave the cave. We saw about 1 millions beautiful swallows, fly in circles! And also if you stay quite you will see small green parrots flying around, they all flew above us. This lasts about 1 hour. Make sure you ask about the scheduling before you go, as swallows leave at different times, depending on the weather. You can also see them in the afternoon, about 4pm. Its a long way down, but totally worth it!
One of the most amazing places I've visited. Of course you need to be there just before sunrise and wait till the birds swirl out, or before sunset. Standing at the border and the birds "falling into the pit" just not touching you is amazing. The surroundings are astonishingly beautiful as well.
Amazing experience!!! Thousands of birds flocking into the cave at sunset... something to remember forever! Yes, the steps up are difficult but very worth it!! Bring good walking or hiking shoes!

This is a very fine museum. Its collection of Carrington sculptures is very impressive. Definitely worth the price of admission and an hour of your time to visit.
To me one of the best attractions in Xilitla. Very nice sculptures and some painting (temporary exhibition). Plus there's AC so serves as a refuge in the heat. Must visit.
If you've made it all the way to Xilitla, you should do yourself the favour of visiting this museum. If you were to see this collection in Europe, it would easily be quadruple the price, and you are likely to have the place to yourself. These are amazing sculptures, and play a very important role in surrealist art. I'm not adding photos because you should just come and see them in person.
This is a fun museum to tour. Loved the sculptures. The view from the roofdeck is spectacular. Friendly staff. Tough to park since it's on the public plaza and a closed road with a market.
I always visit places that have Leonora Carrington art. This museum is a bit small, but worth a visit when in Xilitla.
Really cool little museum. We'll laid out. Beautiful lighting on Leonora's sculptures. The film at the end is a 6 minute psychedelic trip. Sit down and be amazed. Audio visual wizardry! If they let you, stay in there do watch it a second and third time. ,E
Leonora Carrington it is awesome! I love her! You have to visit the museum
Very interesting museum place to visit, with lots surrealist and quite bizarre art. However the mandatory mask policy is ridiculous, especially when you have to buy the mask too. Just a pathetic attempt at extortiing money out of tourists. The pandemic is over. No need to continue this nonsense whatsoever!

It was an amazing experience !! It was fun and the driver was very professional and the price was great plus they waited for us to get ready
We had the bad luck that the day we went over to the cascades, thay were closed. The trip to edward james was fine, the food they offer as buffet is amazing. We got another trip that was on atv's roadtrip. It was boring, it had nothing to do with the advertising, nor the name of the trip which was "surreal tour" . Its just driving down the road at 10kmph no outroad no mud nor anything. People is very friendly.
Not much to see. You have to buy a coffee o tea to got to the roof
Rappelling here for the first time was an incredible experience!
It was a awesome experience
