Ferries
Slide 1 of 10
This Ferry Company has its system down pact. Such an efficient and easy process. The terminal is beautiful too (The Tahiti terminal has a restaurant that looks over the marina.) We ordered our tickets online before we traveled to make sure we'd secure a place for both us and our rental car. Lots of seats, a sun deck, a small snack shop too. Enjoyed both our rides a great deal.
Fast and efficient way to ferry-travel between Papeete and Moorea. Crossing took less than 30 minutes each way. Clean vessel with air conditioning, rest rooms, snack bar with hot and cold food selections and table seating in dining area. Multiple decks for passengers, cars, trucks and bikes. Two adults for a round trip will set you back about 60 dollars US ( 40 for seniors over 65)
Great on time ride, I was stressed and hot, the kitchen was above average and the air conditioning very cool and welcoming. Plenty of space to sit, and after cooling down and finishing breakfast great upper level deck to see the beauty of the islands.
Very fast and smooth ferry service. It was exceptionally smooth, perhaps due vtob the catamaran design. Take many pictures. Make sure you secure your hat and sunglasses.
Fast and efficient. They exit out the back in Moorea.
Great mode of transportation between Tahiti and Mo'orea. Tip: I found it easier to just go to the ticket office and buy our tickets. I tried online and was able to get tickets, but unable to schedule the day/time I wanted to use them. The people working the ticket booths are very friendly and helped me out greatly. FYI - you will need individual passenger tickets and a separate vehicle ticket if bringing a car.
This was a very nice ferry with air conditioned passenger area, snack bar and clean restrooms. Includes vehicle transport on lower deck. If you have a choice, this is the ferry to take.
Very nice ferry, very clean
Large ferry from Moorea to Tahiti. Has dining room, outdoor sundeck, cars.
Big boat that transports your vehicles and family. Affordable food on board and comfy seats. The top is very windy and sunny but you have a great view. Inside there are sears next to blurry windows and some seats with tables. The staff was nice and made sure everyone got on and off safely. It's only a 30 min rocky ride but very enjoyable.
Papeete Market

Market

City market selling all manner of goods from fruit & vegetables to handicrafts & souvenirs.
Slide 1 of 8
I love this market. They have everything you could want for you, family and friends. Great gifts. Great prices and very friendly vendors. They have a fruits and veggie section. A meat area as well. All around good vibes and people. You won’t be disappointed.
Early opening and early closing. Gorgeous fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, black pearls, shell jewellery, takeaway food, clothes, souvenirs. Bright, colourful, busy, where the locals shop with the tourists. In the heart of town.
We went early as we thought there would be a better selection, but it turns out. We went too early because the shops don't really open until 9 and we were there at about 7:30am. Prices were reasonable. Lots of food choices. We at a chicken salad bowl from a vender that was delicious. Lots of fried food options like egg rolls and doughnuts (not my jam, but it looked amazing if that's your jam. No judgment)
We love to come here and see the produce neatly stacked the fresh tuna for sale the flower stalls, the food stalls, and people watching
A must visit place while in Papeete. Finding parking is a challenge, make sure to carry coins (for parking that is). Lots of stalls for vegetables, fruits, clothes and souvenirs.
The local market with a vibe—friendly people, vibrant colors, and a great atmosphere. Fresh flowers and handmade items including local (black?) pearls, there’s so much to explore. The market feels alive and full of energy. Do not forget to visit first flor with local boutiques.
Pretty neat little market, plenty of fresh fruit. Didn't go for any of the cooked food vendors, just bought fruits. The tat out the front might make nice souvenirs for reasonable prices.
Lots of local vendors for flowers, food, jewelry, clothes, souvenirs and other household items. There are two floors to the mall, many different things to see and do. Great place to kill time while waiting for Ferries or a taxi to the airport for a flight.
Arahoho Blowhole

Cool thing to see! Doesn’t take a ton of time. Limited parking available but the entrance to the three waterfalls is across the street so you can see both attractions.
WE stopped here as we drove around the island of Tahiti. It is a nice spot to stop and rest. Shady, with nice restrooms. You are not able to see the blowhole they have it fenced off. You are able to watch the ocean or visit the gift shops there.
The view of the blow hole was around a cliff and closed due to possible rock slides. The black beach was gorgeous and they have bath and restrooms open to public.
Beautiful location Looks like you need to come at high tide to get that blow hole to really pop so you can see the high powered mist. There is nice park and walk after the blowhole. The parking 🅿️ is tight. The black beach ⛱️ is truly amazing to look at. It makes the water black too. It's free parking no need to pay for anything
You may think it’s just a hole in the ground and you may even be tempted to skip Arahoho Blowhole on your trip around Tahiti, but TRUST ME when I say this: this is one of the coolest things you will see on your entire trip!! This is equal to any of the waterfalls, beaches, and other places on the islands of French Polynesia! I have never seen anything like it - waves slam into the rocks down at sea level, and this narrow hole channels the pressure all the way up to where you are standing! It’s like a tube that blasts air out and it is POWERFUL! It shoots wind close to hurricane force, and if you got too close, you would definitely blow over from the force! It is loud too, so be prepared!!! I 100% recommend stopping here along your drive - it is free and entirely worth a few minutes of your time. There is almost no walking required, and there is also a nice park attached to the Blowhole area where you can have a nice view of the ocean as well as the sea creatures on the rocks below! One unique phenomenon that you might spot when you visit is these little fish things that hop all across the rocks near the bottom entrance of the blowhole. It is weird, and I have never seen anything like it before. Maybe you know why they are? 🤔
The blowhole is a small opening near the wall of the rock face that shoots out a mist of seawater in gusts with a loud whoosh sound. Around the blowhole also involves a short paved trail along the coast. The black sand beach is also fantastic to relax in. If you walk to the edge of the beach towards the east/south side, there is a freshwater river that feeds in to the ocean which is a very unique feeling with the intersection of cold stream fresh water and warm salty ocean water. Parking is extremely difficult but we were lucky and was able to get a spot right as someone left.
One of the best natural phenomenon I have ever seen. The smoke comes out of an actual lava duct jutting out from the ocean into these rocks! Just absolutely stunning!
Arahoho Blowhole is located along the rocky coast of Tahiti and a scenic black sand beach. It is one of the island's most visited natural wonders.

Jewelry store
Intimate museum offering educational exhibits on the legends of pearls & jewelry making.
Slide 1 of 8
A good place to understand how those pearls grow and where are they from. No ticket, no reservation, just walk in.
Informative. Explains the history of pearls in the pacific. Took 20 minutes to view all exhibits. I know understand the Robert Wan is the Polynesian pearls equivalent of DeBeres. No cost for touring museum.
Very interesting amd informative museum. Wi-Fi free in the museum.
The Robert Wan Pearl Museum in Tahiti provides insights into pearl cultivation through its exhibit, but it feels predominantly like a high-end pearl retail store rather than a pearl museum. While the free admission is a plus, the high prices of the items for sale gives a more commercial vibe.
Small free museum about Tahitian pearl cultivation. Mostly, it's a retail store with expensive prices. It takes about 15 minutes to see all the exhibits. 3 small rooms, some videos. Explanations in French and English.
It’s basically a shop with a few exhibits on the side. What’s actually nice is you can also see some really amazing pearls for sale. Parking is a bit challenging.
Worth stopping by if you are in town. Get a chance to learn a thing or two about the history and origin of pearls. Otherwise you can also buy some fine selections here. Finally don’t be afraid to ask the staff questions! They are very friendly and eager to share their knowledge.
Excellent museum with easy to digest info on pearls and pearl farming. Good welcome.

A nice little walk from the cruise terminal. It's a beautiful serene place to stroll.
I did a walk about from the ship pier, the gardens were within 15 minutes from the ship. I enjoyed the various pieces of art that I found and there was lots of places to lay in the grass in the shade. Great place to while away the day and relax.
It is located a few minutes away from the port. A place where locals gathered to enjoy free time. By the water front. With areas for pic nic and sports. There are a few sculptures scatered around the gardens.
the fountains are super pretty but other than that it’s a pretty standard park, with lots of seating, outdoor chess table, shade, grass, some sculptures/memorials, exercise stuff, and a walk along the water with views of moorea and the ferries/cruise ships
A nice little garden along the ocean near the cuise terminal. You can take a walk, get a bit of Tahiti, and relax.
A very typical, normal public park. Main restroom wasnt working so we had to find an alternate one, which had no soap. Lots of unhoused people and encampments. Nothing to really see or do or marvel at. Pretty views of the ocean.
You cannot miss this place and you shouldn't. A lovely park with much life. Always people here and sometimes other activities. It is very nicely designed and has some amazing views.
Decent little park near the water. View out to shipping docks so not the most picturesque. All the playgrounds were closed. Not sure if they have limited opening hours or just because of the rain earlier. Some nice sculptures and workout equipment. Lots of joggers.

Historic colonial & part Gothic style Catholic church inaugurated in 1875 with three bells.
Slide 1 of 8
Beautiful local cathedral with Tahitian style. You have to visit. Wonderful architecture. Oldest church on the island. Beautiful wooden carvings. I really liked that the stations of the cross paintings had Tahitian flair.
This is a church. In the middle of the city. Nothing special. But free parking for two hours, close to the main port, in a calm area.
I was in Tahiti on 22nd August, 2017, a beautiful but pretty hot day, and while out site-seeing was looking for the US Embassy (McDonald's) and came across the Papeete Catholic Cathedral, know as Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Papeete. Not at all far from the waterfront, it's a modest but nice Cathedral. It was built by French missionaries in the period 1848-1875 making it the oldest church in Tahiti. Also of interest is that it's the last remaining examples of the early colonial architecture of Papeete. The gaily coloured with red roof, not to mention the distinctive red spire on the church tower certainly make this cathedral a stand out in the centre of the capital. The Cathedral has benefited from several restorations over the years and it will be interesting to see how it holds its place in years to come as central Papeete develops, as I'm sure that it will. ps. Walking a little further down the road from the Cathedral I eventually found the rather uninteresting U.S. Embassy.
Sort of a sparse church, but excellent cross ventilation so it is very pleasant inside.
Historic Catholic Cathedral built in 1875
Closed when we went there
This is an downtown church, that helps with the homeless, as well as regular parishioners.
if you visit the nearby Market, do spend a few minutes here as well. Not a western style cathedral, not an engineering marvel, but very nice. Loved the chicken in the church garden too :)

Always visit parks where you visit. You learn a bit of history and enjoy the calmness amongst the hustle and bustle of downtown. It's much bigger than it looks and has a water garden too. This park is on the main drag and worth the stop to appreciate. It's also part of a bigger downtown walking tour.
Amazing place for chilling out, having some coffee or beer in a nice bars and restaurants surrounded. Or just go for a nice walk. If you feel like having exercise, perfect place for running or for a gym there is a several outdoor gym center free of charge available in the park.
It’s a quaint and quiet little park. Great for relaxing, taking a load off or just chilling or take your lunch, eat and relax.
This park is a great place to relax in the shade. My locals playing chess or hanging with friends and family. A lot of different palms tress with some being very old, such as the chambronia m.
Nice place very near the cruise port
Beautiful park, a little run down in places because of so many visitors
Let's of homeless people when we went there, and it's a very small park. Not at all like a botanical garden, not many bougainvillea. Would not recommend.
Beautiful park with nice walking paths.

Ferry service
Transportation
Slide 1 of 8
Good service No reservation required (without vehicle), Best to look at (return-times) before booking a return-ticket, there’s no financial advantage anyway.
The Terevau is a good way to get between Tahiti and Moorea. The English part of the website made it easy to buy tickets, which I could print our download electronically. The boarding area and car queue is on the north end of the Pape'ete Ferry Terminal. The boat is comfy enough, with passenger lounges on two decks + a small outside seating area at the back of the ship. There's a snack bar. My experience loading a car was stressful. It's not a roll on/off boat; you drive through a door in the side, into a space with room for about 10 cars. The last few cars, inc. me, had to back up the ramp to fit, while watching for tight clearances and having the crew yell at you. Next time I would try Aremiti for an easier experience. Car passengers have to get out before loading and board separately.
I was impressed with Terevau. Not sure if this is true or not, but the staff said that this ferry was the faster one. We boarded at 8:10am to Moorea and came back to Tahiti on the 4.40pm. The waves were slightly choppy. I loved it, but my friend got sick sea. The ferry staff are used to this and have barf bags available. For a car transport and 2 RT tickets were about $122 USD. There are multiple levels, bottom level was quieter and the view is still lovely.
Perfect and fast connection between Tahiti and Moorea. The onsite services were really good. Website could definitely be improved to offer more updated information.
Easy and convenient. But pleas improve the mobile experience to book tickets ! Especially to add a car on reservation
Fast Ferry to Moorea. We saw a whale jump behind the ferry on our way back. You can see it on the picture on the left side.
Great ferry experience to get from Tahiti to Moo'rea! The boat is clean and bathroom are also. The food stand is little lacking but the trip is short so no problem
So easy! Walked up 20 or so minutes before the ferry left. Easy to buy a round trip ticket, handed off our larger suitcases, and climbed on board. Very smooth and fast ferry to Moorea in about 30 mins. A little chaos trying to get our luggage back on the trip back to Tahiti a few days later but it was also raining so everyone was trying to squeeze under awnings.

We saw the amazing Tiki Tattoo at the Four Seasons Bora Bora back in June of 2023. I have anted it ever since but could not make the purchase. We organised with the lovely owner and Laina that we would purchase the Tiki and collect when we were there in Feb of 2025. The quality of product, amazing service of Laina and the entire team and of course the pure joy of taking my exquisite Tiki, made this experience beyond 5 stars. They shipped the tiki from Bora Bora to Papeete at no extra charge. They securely wrapped it and provided all tax refund paperwork. Amazing. So amazing that I bought a second Tiki the following week!
This is a fantastic little gallery that has a lot of unique artworks and historically accurate pieces that showcase French Polynesian rich culture. Lady working there was very kind, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She explained the meanings behind works, and answered all of our questions. I definitely recommend to visit.
Beautiful artwork with a lovely person working there. She took the time to explain the pieces. I would definitely include this as a quick stop on your itinerary.
What a truly amazing store with beautifully made local sculptures, carvings and other heritage items. I wish we had more time as we would have loved to spend a lot longer considering each item as they were all so special.
Beatrice was very knowledgeable and helpful. We love the art and Christmas ornaments we purchased from here! Thank you!
Manua is an excellent Arts and Culture Gallery to visit and purchase from. Laina was so very helpful and knowledgeable. We made a purchase and as outlined by Laina we were easy able to work through the Tahitian exit and New Zealand entry processes. A must visit Gallery on the waterfront.
My wife and I greatly enjoyed our time here. We purchased a beautiful tiki and a beautiful ivory/wood carving. We spent a significant amount of time there asking questions. They were so kind as to allow us to feed our daughter some formula there and even offered to close the shop for some privacy. Great gallery and it was quite special. We will continue to return in the future on any future visits.
I recently purchased a very special ukulele from Manua Exquisite Tahitian Art. The entire experience was awesome! Gisele was very helpful and friendly, taking a great deal of time with me. I highly recommend taking a look at the fine art and fun objects to help you remember visiting paradise!!
