We spent the most perfect afternoon at Neudorf, the weather was amazing and we decided to try their mini 2 people picnic basket and their wine tasting. The staff were amazing and the food was incredible. Their Bread roll was so fresh and the cheese that came with it was amazing too. Highly recommend!
Wine tasting at the front of house, rock up and enjoy. Really tasty selections. Outdoor seating was fantastic in the summer. Wished there were more food/snacks choices available though.
A delightful place to enjoy wine tasting even in the rain. Their olives and warm, fresh bread were spot on. Their staff was ever so helpful and friendly.
Stunning vineyard. Amazing Pinot noir. Decently priced- tastings $15/4. Bottles ~$55 (to drink on site. Takeaway ~30% cheaper). Can order charcuterie boards, which was highly recommend to us, yet we recently ate. Staff very friendly and attentive. Went on a weekday. Lots of parking and available seating.
Neudorf make seriously good wines. While Chardonnay is their specialty, they make very good riesling, pinot gris, albarino, rose and pinot noir. You can taste a range of wines in the tasting area, but I also recommend taking time to sit in their courtyard area overlooking the vines, enjoying one of their picnic hamper lunches with a glass or bottle of their wines.
Visited Neudorf on Sunday just been and was very impressed. We enjoyed a delicious wine tasting (Ps. they donate tasting proceeds towards rescue helicopter!), the grounds are beautiful with nice seating options outside in the sunshine, the woman serving us was lovely, the jazz music playing was smooth, and the picnic shop corner is such a great idea! After wine tasting, enjoyed a glass of their dry Riesling and chose some beautiful local picnic items (Brie cheese, freshly baked and warmed ficelle mini baguette, local jar of beetroot plum relish, and some olive oil infused oat crackers, plus Kumar a crisps). Everything was very fairly priced and it was a beautiful way of spending the afternoon on our way back to Nelson. We’re thankful that Owen River Lodge’s host Felix recommended Neudorf to us.
We fell in love with this winery in 2017, and nearly 7 years later it’s still delivering great Chardonnays. It’s a bit of a drive to get here - allow a good half hour if you’re staying in Nelson - but the last part of the drive in the Moutere region is lovely, and passes a lot of farm stalls. They don’t charge for tasting, and only offer 4 or 5 wines, but seem pretty flexible if you have a keen interest in specific wines (as we do with their chardonnays). The basic Chardonnay is pretty good value for $28, but it’s the better wines that will have you splashing out. And the setting here is superb, a lovely garden overlooking the vineyards, and simply wonderful hosts.
Nice wine in a lovely garden, perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the sun.

I recently ordered some chook pellets. Super quick delivery. Here 2 days later. Ordering from them will definitely be my go too! I love a smooth process which they definitely were 😊
We spent well over $3,000 with them in March on a coop and accessories, and then after just over three months our chicken swing broke (less than $50). We thought replacing a small item worth so little would be quick and painless - until it was suggested the swing had been misused - albeit from one email and a single photo!. I'm not sure how a chicken swing was misused by chickens... swinging on it... I know I certainly never gave it a try - but this is just such poor customer service and such a ridiculous assumption to make from the outset. They could have done SO SO much better than this shoddy treatment. I would've absolutely backed anyone to buy from them, the coop was fantastic - but now I'm worried that anything goes wrong I'll be in for a battle with them. Since querying how they worked out it was misused from one email and a photo they've completely ignored me and are unresponsive. Awful - solid avoid. Update: Given the laughable response from this shoddy operator - they can't even calculate dates correctly. Purchase was in early March, pallet not received until mid March. Emailed them end of July. You do the maths, because they clearly can't. The outside "force" they are discussing - is a chicken swinging on it clearly. The swing is poorly designed and clearly when they swing in directions other than perfectly forward and back this strains the plastic arm. It very obviously is poorly constructed and not fit for purpose and of acceptable quality; also a requirement of the Consumer Guarantees Act :) The swing remained in the coop for its entire short life; and was only ever used by a chicken OF COURSE. It's a chicken swing for goodness sakes! Again - horrible to know we have risked our money with an operator that makes a fuss over a $30 item after spending thousands? Uploaded photo of order from March to show they are trying to present a very different picture to the reality.
Appletons are very good to deal with. I bought the Eglu Go Up for my three Orpington pullets and it will be very good once they learn to use the ladder. I have locked them in the coop to train them but have made tape hinges so the back can be left ajar and kept cooler. Assembly is finicky; I had a professional builder at 5 hours' labour and he was bamboozled at times. It looks attractive and is easy to clean.
I have now made two big-ticket purchases from the Appletons website and have been extremely satisfied on each occasion. These days, making big purchases online sight-unseen is a huge gamble. I've previously dropped thousands of dollars on products expecting premium quality, only for absolute junk to show up at my door. The products from Appletons are always of an extremely high quality and very much worth their price! Because I'm ordering from another city, I usually have questions prior to purchase, and the owner is always very helpful and so patient! She knows her products well and always offers good advice. I highly recommend this store and can vouch for the quality of the products, the speed of delivery, and the top-notch customer service. I'll be back for sure!
Great website, products and quick packaging and shipping! Never had an issue with them, people are always great to deal with. It’s the only company I order my chicken feeders, waterers and heat plates from, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to purchase chicken things! Thanks Appletons! :)
I've been purchasing from Appletons for a few years now and have never been let down or sold products I would later regret. Fiona is very very helpful and my orders always arrive on time or early. The Omlet Cubes, Omlet Go, Go-Up and fencing are amazing, so easy to clean and I know my hens are snug and safe from predators.
This is the place for your animal food especially chickens. We bought a new chicken run and 4 chickens now they are getting big enough for fresh eggs. Out of the way but worth the visit. This is the new addition to the family Thanks
Found the staff member that owns the place to be condescending, arrogant, inflexible and rude. I am giving 2 stars as the other staff members are very helpful. I am unsure why someone who clearly doesn't understand what customer rapport or service is ends up working in retail. It's not a huge surprise as I have heard that she is unhelpful and doesn't like to be wrong. Not impressed. Great customer service means everything! If you don't have customers you don't have a business! Room for improvement!

Such a lovely experience, Deanna the ferry driver is fantastic and we really appreciated her kindness and enthusiasm. It was a beautiful day for a ride and my 3 year old buddy was so excited. Well worth doing, especially with children. Such an easy way to get across to Rabbit Island from Mapua and worth it for the experience. Thanks Deanna for the wonderful service 🥰
I think you can pretty easily swim to Rabbit Island but the ferry will keep you dry. It leaves on the hour and as of November 2024, a round trip ticket was $11 USD per person. You can buy tickets on their website or on the ferry itself.
Seriously unattractive boat providing an excellent service connecting Rabbit Island with Mapua Wharf crossing the lovely Mapua estuary. It isn't all plain sailing, there can be a hell of a current and the wind pushes hard sometimes as it's a slab sided boat but the skippers handle it well. Room for lots of bikes and strollers as well as people. Note no dogs allowed on Rabbit Island.
Such a lovely trip back and forth to rabbit island. Also want to give a HUGE thanks to the ferry captain and the person on the phone at Kiwi Journeys, who mobilized to get us back early when our 8 year old broke his finger in a bike accident. Thank you!
There’s something really charming about short ferry trips! We take the Itchenor to Bosham ferry (West Sussex, UK) two or three times a year with our bikes. And if we lived near this one we’d be doing the same. Rabbit Island has a glorious beach and the cycleway is well-maintained, so not much excuse needed to pop across by Mapua Ferry! It’s such a relief to be able to get on and off so easily. Just roll up, roll on, and roll off using the simple ramp. The Skipper on our day was Steve. We overheard him talking to Luke, another passenger riding a Kiwi Journeys bike. Turns out that both of them used to work big yachts. So the few hundred metres from Mapua to Rabbit Island wasn’t too taxing for Steve! He ferried us with good humour and was bang on time both ways - of course it helps if you can see your passengers waiting across the water…and vice versa! We had a really good day out topped and tailed by Mapua Ferry rides - recommended highly.
Great service! Was cold and wet waiting, I called up to make sure the operator knew there were 3 people waiting for the 5.10pm ferry and he came instantly. Was very glad to get out of the cold early
Shortest ferry ride but saves so much biking and walking effort. Great little ride with easy access for bikes, walkers and beach goers. Good photo opportunities.
After a beautiful cycle the ferry was spacious enough to accommodate a good crowd. The payment was easy & it was great to be connected across to civilisation (& food) at Mapua

We had a lovely Christmas eve dinner here. The pizza was delicious and the wine selection was fab! It's a really nice atmosphere, looking over the harbour/sea if you're sat outside or getting some protection from the wind inside. Would definitely go back again.
Three pizzas and one wine tasting later.... We had a pepperoni, chicken and cranberry, and salmon pizza which were all amazing and even better after adding some of the chili flakes and pepper oil on the side. Pizzas were crisp and cheesy 👍 However the wine tasting did not receive as positive ratings as the pizza did...
I wish I had a place like this where I live. Relaxed and friendly wine bar with great menu of pizzas and platters done well. The wine list is extensive, they also have ciders, beers and non alcoholic drinks. We sat on some comfy couches and relaxed with our prosecco. The pizza came out very quickly and was outstanding! A crispy base, beautifully cooked toppings and nice and hot. Then the Mediterranean Platter arrived, the feta, olives and dips were a standout for me. The bread was lovely and plenty of it. The only thing we would have liked is side plates. We were on the couch and used the napkins provided, but it would have been easier with little plates. Highly recommend.
Awesome selection of wine's. Reasonable price and great that they let you eat the fish and chips from across the street, providing you buy a wine and clean up after yourself. The food looked great too.
Such a lovely spot in an idyllic setting in Māpua. An extensive selection of wines, and the lady behind the bar knew her stuff! There was only bar service when we went, maybe due to difficulties finding staff which seemed prevalent with a lot of places at the time. We'd heard the flat bread was really good, but turned out to be the kind yoi could buy from the supermarket which was disappointing. But again, perhaps this was a result of lack of staff? The vibe was ok, some nice outdoor seating. Had the makings of a really great place, but we got the feeling we'd visited when they were sailing half mast.
Great concept but needs some work. I noticed a lot of people order beer. That's what I should have done. The pizza was good except the charred crust. Love the idea of the wine tree. Wish the branches tasted better.
We didn't even get to drink here. We had our daughter with us and they made clear that children aren't welcome. I even sarcastically asked them whether I should change my kids nappy outside and they said yes please. If you don't want children at your place, make it clear with signage. Do yourself a favour and drink a little further at golden bear...they welcomed us with open arms unlike this place
Nice wine-bar, could be friendly with their bar service as the waitress collecting the empty glasses was very friendly. Cannot comment on food, choice was limited but as we felt the bar service was not friendly we decided to move on.

A stunning gallery and homewares store in the Moutere Valley, which also serves great coffee. Definitely worth stopping here for a look and a coffee.
Def worth checking out, had been recommended by another gallery owner to come up and visit this place. beautiful sculptures and woodwork. Lovely location will def be back again for a coffee next time
Stunning spot that has been beautifully landscaped. Very talented artists, husband and wife both with their talent on display. Lovely collection of vintage style homewares including wooen platters, tin vessels, unusual original pieces. We had lovely coffees in the garden and I bough a natural fragrance that is lovely. Well worth a visit while touring through the area.
Amazing, high-quality creations in wood and metal. Top shelf. Good coffee too.
Wonderful setting and atmosphere. Great workmanship - converting oak barrels to household items.
Amazing artwork, delicious coffee and wonderful service - a MUST stop for anyone who loves to marvel at the masterpieces Michael has to show. Can’t wait to head back up and have another look!
Lots of lovely sculptures. Very cleverly done from wine barrels. Every single piece of the barrel get used for something. A mix of metal and wooden pieces of art. Tea and coffee available.
Beautiful hand-crafted wooden kitchen, dining wares. Beautiful photos and pencil drawings. And French wares. Beautiful setting. Some modern and some "old master" styles of sculptures. Hot drinks and biscuits available for inside/outside enjoyment. Jackie, co-owner i met, and photographer, very pleasant. Not meet Mike the sculptor and maker of wooden wares. Enjoyed French Cafe music playing while i was there. And coffee sitting on the grass with my dog. Beauty and quietness (occasional traffic) very healing. Is also B and B. Highly recommended.

Amazing gallery with many interactive displays. Functional furniture, jewellery, gifts for children, a mesmerising train set running below the ceiling. A must visit when in the Nelson area. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Awesome gallery, loved the music boxes and the elevated train is so cool! A lot of skill, creativity and hard work on display here. Make sure you press the buttons! Incredible place.
Really impressive wooden items of display , most if not all for sale . Interactive things for children . Enjoyed this stop in .
I’ve been there almost 2 years ago with my partner, and found it again today by miracle ! Such a lovely unique gallery. The owner is super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend to stop there to anyone. There is not two places like that in New Zealand. Or even in the world! Kids and adults would be amazed about all their creations.
So glad we stopped to bounce in here. We've been lucky enough to receive some great gifts from here so we needed to see what else there was. There are so many beautiful pieces of furniture, lots of fabulous contraptions and really interesting "things". The owner (?) Came out and chatted to us and other folk there. Absolutely recommend stopping and taking the time to walk around,
Bad fix on my watch, could have told me how to do it myself, but instead has put an huge glob of glue over it, and charged me top dollar. It didnt fit my wrist afterwards aswell. Has diminished my warranty due to being honest about trying to fix it myself. Terrible service. Not happy.
If you're into quirky gadgets and furniture, then this is the place to visit in Mapua. I'm a technology teacher and I loved this place. The owner kindly allowed me to take some photos to try and convince my boss that we should be investing in the equipment to teach our children these modern technological methods. We also chatted for sometime and we both shared our enthusiasm for these great devices. I bought this clock as it's a brilliant example of STE(A)M learning. Shame there's only 5 stars 😉
Amazing place, really ignites your inner creativity. Lovely owner, absolutely beautiful creations - must visit, definitly worth the trip. Will return to Nelson specifically for this! Thanks for the visit :)

The formations, trees and plants in this reserve are incredible. It’s like you’re walking through a Jurassic forest. The rock formations are huge and mind-blowing to walk under and between so don’t be put off if you’re coming from Labyrinth rocks and think it’ll be a similar experience, as it’s not. Only takes 30mins tops if you’re a slow walker…so quicker for most. Toilet at the start and a reasonable sized carpark
Nice and easy walk through cool rocks! A viewing platform that gives an elevated view of the surrounding area. This was really a Cool Rocks moment for me lol
Worth the drive, easy walk, go left first and loop around to the lookout then back to the carpark. Took us around 20 minutes and that was with stopping to take photos. 😍
One of my favourite walks in New Zealand. Unique dream like rocks, spots for climbing, and good photo spots. Going during sunset is a great idea
It's been a long time since I last visited The Grove. Always a beautiful short walk through some fascinating rock structures with a stunning view at the lookout
Awesome little hike - only took about 20 minutes to do the loop. There’s a nice look out over the farmers fields and you can see the mountains in the distance and the sea. The rock formations here are beautiful and it’s filled with various palms! It feels like being transported back in time a million years! Definitely worth the quick stop in
Amazing! Walk amongst rocks that were sculpted by water 400 million years ago.
I did this walk last year while on a road trip, and can highly recommend stopping here. The track is not to hard, and has many interesting spots where you want to take photos. A narrow chasm leads to a lookout over the farm land. The walk is between lovely trees, almost like a jungle in spots, with the large limestone and granite boulders. You can do the walk in 20 minutes or less if you rush, but well worth spending more time, and enjoying the scenery.

I always love waking the Boulder Bank when we’re in Nelson. My favourite is to start at Glenduan Reserve on Seafield Terrace. Or drive down Boulder Bank drive next to the ponds until the small parking area. Sunsets around Boulder Bank are just stunning.
Despite being in close proximity to Nelson's waste water treatment facility, the boulder bank is lovely place to visit for exploring at low tide. Great weather made this trip extra memorable, but unfortunately slightly marred by a woman who let her dog off the leash - violating the rules of the ecologically significant area.

It looks like the bridge is closed but you can reach the railway tunnel when you just follow the walkway. Check the area, you’ll see! It was a really nice place. Loved it! Easy and short walking for everyone.
Beautiful walk; it's a good stop for your travels between Westport and Nelson/Picton.
Actually, it's easy to miss this walk. It's at the entrance of the carpark. Many people I saw drove in, saw the wooden structures and thought that was it.
Great 15 min break on the way to/from the west coast. The kids loved it. Plenty of sand flies and bumble bees - stay alert.
I love this walk, a good place to stretch your legs on a long journey, fun to take children through the old train tunnel, over the bridge then back through the trees.
Had too stop for a break and relax in the moment to enjoy some heritage and have some lunch . Walked to the river and enjoyed the wildlife .The trail is closed but great place to stop and relax
Nice place to stop for a break. The railway track was closed for safety reasons but the area is nice. There's a bit of information to read just as you stretch your legs and bathroom if you need.
A well worth stop if you're travelling south from Nelson. Punches above its length in terms of enjoyment with interesting sights to behold include a walk through an abandoned railway tunnel (a flashlight was handy but not necessary assuming it was daytime).

Nice small shop for some amazing woven items like scarfs and small jackets and and some very good timber items. All the woven item are done on the waving frame in the shop - impressive to look at! Worth dropping in when you are going passed!!
Great customer service. Ordered some woodglue off their website and it arrived within 24hrs.
Purchased some Titebond, shipping was fast, packaging was great, a nice friendly transaction. Thank you so much.
Excellent customer service. They shipped really quickly and even included extra accessories with my purchase. I would highly recommend.
Two very creative artiest work here. Tony the wood designer is very clever man. Look forward to having a table made by his creative hands.
