Great way to explore Abel Tasman National park. We did a one day kayak and another trip to use the ferry and then do a walk from Milford beach to Anchorage. Would highly recommend both. Our guide for kayak was knowledgeable and took us far enough. Also the walk was beautiful. Would definitely recommend anyone looking to explore this area and enjoy a day or two in the National park. Parking was no issue, we parked at 10$ a day parking lot which was next to the check in counter and had ample space at 10am. Also the real nz ice cream after the eventful day was a nice treat!
Great little boat trip stopping at numerous beaches on the way. Not only collecting hikers from various National Park walks ( hiking routes vary from from hours to 3 days), but also collecting people from private parties on secluded beaches. Dry Beach landing is the norm, though if the tide is out, you may have to wade through ankle deep water.
What we got from Wilsons Abel Tasman was worth every cent we spent but really, the memories of one day cruise-kayak-walking adventure is priceless. Our trip was super well organized logistically and had laid back vibe to it at the same time. Many thanks to our fantastic guide Jack - first time sea-kayaking and he made us feel like pro's. :-) and he had dozens of stories related to geography and history of the area. Also he knew the best times to enter lagoons so we could make the most of one day. The sun, nice conditions and not too high season yet (Dec 7) played a role, too.
We had the most fabulous experience with Wilson’s. Staff were so enthusiastic and friendly, ready to answer any queries. The 3 days hike surpassed our expectations in every way. The lodges were clean & comfortable, the food was delicious, the transportation to and from the walk was excellent. Although it rained heavily one day, we were given ponchos which did the job keeping us mostly dry. I left my rain jacket in the drying room at the last lodge so rang first thing the next morning. Bingo! My jacket appeared, delivered to our hotel that day. Unbelievable service! Thank you so much all the Wilsons team
We did the Beaches Bays and Seals Plus Walk trip on a rainy day, so it didn’t look like the promo pictures but it was great kayaking in the rain! Jack, the guide, was grest and we felt very safe but adventurous kayaking in a lumpy sea. Fortunately it stopped raining for the walk from Torrent Bay back to Anchorage so we could appreciate the bush.
We had a great time doing the Kajak tour. Read the description of your tour carefully, so you can bring along the things you will need or leave behind those that just use space 😉 (we blindly followed the list and brought hiking boots although we were traveling back by boat) If you get the lunch yourself, there is a shop right at the ticket office. The kayak have a dry room and u will get a dry bag as well. Bring along enough water, you will get thirsty. Depending on the tide you will have to walk, so we recommend shorts and / or swimm ware for the trip. As you will be paddling on the ocean and the ocean has waves, be aware if u get easily sea sick. Parking If you get there early, u will find enough parking slots. There is also a full day parking (10 Dollars). It can get crowded the around 9/10 am
My three day, self-guided southbound tramp completed yesterday. And, I'd do it again if time allowed! Coordination and communication by the Wilsons team was thorough, making the pre-trip planning and in-trip transfers super easy. Accommodations and meals at both lodges were top notch. And I can't praise host/guide Ollie highly enough. He managed our whole herd with patience, good cheer and professionalism. Well done, Wilsons!
An absolute highlight day of our trip to NZ. You absolutely must go. The stunning beaches and hiking in between each beach we visited was absolutely breathtaking and Wilsons boats make this water accessible only trip the easiest way to visit with excellent and super efficient options to be dropped off wherever you decide so you can customize your day to suit your needs. We also bought a picnic lunch on a bag from them and it was perfect for enjoying on one of the stunning beaches ma we stopped at. I will forever remember this magical day.

We visited Abel Tasman a couple of weeks ago and took the one day kayak and walk tour. What an amazing experience. All the staff were super helpful and friendly but special mention goes to our kayak guide Harley. He was friendly and chatty, very knowledgeable and great at managing the varied abilities of other people in our group. We enjoyed the experience so much that we returned the next day to take their water taxi out to Bark Bay, we walked back to Anchorage and were picked up again and returned to Mārahau. They are super organised and professional whilst making every experience feel friendly and relaxed. I highly recommend them for visits to Abel Tasman national park.
Such a great day out. Our guides were extremely knowledgeable about the history of the park which made the trip super interesting as well as fun. They also gave a intricate safety briefing which made me feel confident about being on the water. Beautiful stop for lunch. Fantastic day out and can highly recommend Abel Tasman kayaks
My wife and I enjoyed a full day kayak rental in mid-November. Zak was especially helpful with booking us and ensuring that we were completely prepared for our day trip. Before we set out, Thomas and Mica took us through a thorough safety briefing and answered all of our questions about wildlife encounters before and after our independent outing. We returned at the same time as a guided ATK group which made the transfer back to their offices/our van super easy and efficient. I highly recommend booking a trip if you visit Abel Tasman National Park!
We joined the Earth, Sea and Sky Tour with Abel Tasman Kayaks and it was one of the absolute highlights of our time in New Zealand. The combination of kayaking along the stunning coastline and hiking through lush forest and golden beaches is the perfect way to experience the diversity of Abel Tasman National Park. From the start, everything was incredibly well organised. The kayaking equipment was top quality, the communication clear and the vibe relaxed yet professional. Our guide Henri was fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the area, which really added to the experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to explore this special part of New Zealand. If you're looking for a mix of active adventure and natural beauty, this is the tour for you. Highly recommended!
Top notch kayak tour company. Friendly, capable and safe kayaking tour company. Even though our weather was a bit rainy we had an excellent all day guided tour from veteran guide Dez & trainee Ollie . Dez has a zillion stories and was a seasoned naturalist with loads of wit and verve. We saw tons of seals, a few rays, even a blue penguin bobbing around close to shore. In one of the other nlets a juvenile seal came over and swan around our boats, playing splashing around--a real treat and the highlight for us. Yummy veggie sandwiches with excellent tea/coffee on the beach, with chocolate cake for desert. Highly recommend!
I cannot say enough about this experience. Just go!! It's beautiful. Our guide Tom was incredible providing us with the history of the area and also his knowledge of the rocks, ocean and sea life. He also prepared food and helped us however he could. You will not regret this trip. The kayaking was not too strenuous and it was balanced with gorgeous hikes and stunning vistas.
We had the pleasure to be guided by Whitney on our 1day Kajak tour today. She was very friendly, professional, passionate about the region and in tune with the nature. We got to see many seals and other wildlife, stunning beaches and coves while casually receiving interesting facts about the plants, animals and indigenous culture. The instructions were always clear and I felt very safe while having zero prior kayaking experience. From being picked up by the water Taxi to being dropped off, it was an amazing experience. One of our highlights in New Zealand! 100% would recommend.
Micah and Mitchel were amazing guides! Really nice kayaks on a beautiful day with lots of wildlife sightings. Highly recommended!!

An easy two kilometer walk from the car park. The track to the falls has clearly been improved recently with additional safety measures but best to keep away from some of the drop offs. The falls are photogenic and the walk worth the time spent. On most days you'll probably have to be patient in order to get a good photograph of the falls and the pool.
On the way to the waterfall it feels like you are on a different planet. The nature is just stunning. The waterfall itself is also beautiful to see.
Beautiful walk with fantastic waterfall at the end. Really enjoyed the scenery.
Lovely walk Ensure you wear appropriate footwear as we did.
One of the nicest waterfall in the north. Really worth the walk there. The track is easy and grants you some nice views on the river. The end of the track is directly at the pool of the waterfall. Really nice.
Lovely easy walk through some lush bush and alongside the rocky and pretty river to the view of the waterfall.
Great 1.7km each way easy walk. Beautiful waterfall at the end. Nice swimming hole near the start. A section of the track is washed out currently, with a detour in place.
Excellent hiking place and water fall. If you dare, you can walk on the rocks when back.

We had an amazing time with Abel Tasman Charters. Bret and Emma were incredibly friendly with great knowledge and good chat. Small group of people on the tour so it’s not overcrowded. We had a great view of Adele Island, went Kayaking; great lunch; and a good hike too with great views. Bret even gave us longer to spend time with the pod of dolphins that appeared. Would highly recommend - we had the best day out!
A MUST DO!!!! We had little time at Abel Tasman and picked this tour to get a taste of it far exceeded our expectations. We loved the history, wildlife and delicious platter lunch with local cheeses and meat served with local wines. Most of all, we loved exploring the park by strategic paddles and short walks. We swam on secluded beaches and were visited by dolphins on the way back. The crew was kind, relaxed, informative and fun. We had a relaxing day in paradise. A must do if you are looking for a boating experience. It was easy to get to the meeting point from Nelson.
Rod was an excellent captain and guide. He knows the area well and gave us some wonderful history. The lunch was also delicious. We saw seals, stingrays, a penguin, and lots of other birds. We hiked some great trails and he really was accommodating. We could have kayaked or snorkeled but chose not to. If you want the VIP experience of Abel Tasman, go with these folks.
We had a lovely day with skipper Tim who showed us all the great highlights of the Abel Tasman Coast and its islands (both nature as well as seals/pinguins etc). Very relaxed trip with swimming/kayaking/hiking and a lot of sightseeing as well as a lovely lunch we got in the middle. Largely recommended!
I joined their Perfect Day Out tour on a family trip in April 2024 and it was incredible! As a choose your own adventure kind of day, there was the opportunity to kayak, hike, relax on the beach, etc. and the scenery while doing so is amazing. The guide on board was very knowledgeable and entertaining throughout the day. We saw a variety of wildlife and I was in awe of the birdsong from Adele Island when we stopped to take it in. They provide a beautiful lunch spread with a variety of locally sourced produce. You can't go wrong with a glass of local wine in hand looking out at the turquoise waters and golden sand beaches - It truly was the Perfect Day Out!
We had an absolutely amazing day. Our experience was personalized, with options to swim, beach, walk, or kayak. The lunch and beverages were fantastic, and Tim and Brito provided the BEST service. We saw the most beautiful beaches in NZ, plus gorgeous views. I highly recommend spending the day with Abel Tasman Charters.
Had the best experience with Abel Tasman Charters. The day started with a pick up off the bay. We then went out to split rock, Adele island (learned about the conservation efforts and saw newly born seal pups), then we dropped anchor at anchorage bay. We were able to have a scenic hike and an amazing lunch. After lunch we returned to Adele island where we swam to the beach and saw a few birds. The crew, Kim and Brett, were a joy and so professional.
What a pleasant cruise, sightseeing and rainforest walk. Even though our day started a bit cooler and wetter than typical, they kept our tea cups full and had Sea Legs available for a few which works great. Caption Tim sought out the calm bays and coves. Lunch was very nice and the day finished calmer and dry with spots of sun. Everyone has a great time and we are glad our travel planner booked the day trip for us. If you go out it might be good to know that there is no meeting place or business other than the beach to hop onto a tender to transfer to the boat.

A very special National Park located along the ocean front. There are several treks along the ocean ranging from 1 to 3 day long and taxi boat from most of the beaches so you can either go by boat a come back walking or the other way round. Many campsites and very well maintained walking paths along the treks.
Spent 7 days at totaranui very pretty spot Golden sand calm beach good for canoe hiking and fishing, good toilets and room for solar camp showers, tubs for washing
Beautiful walk through the national park, we walked 16km which took us around 4 hours, very clean track apart from the occasional landslide due to recent rain. Plenty of stops on the way and also plenty of options depending on how far you want to walk! Recommend taking some lunch and snacks and stopping on the beach. 10/10 views.
The Abel Tasman walking trails start right from the Park Cafe in Marahau – and they’re absolutely stunning! The tracks follow the coastline with golden beaches, turquoise water, and lush forest all around. You can do short walks or go further to Anchorage and beyond. Everything is well-marked and beautifully maintained. Along the way there are plenty of great spots to swim, relax, or just enjoy the views. One of the most beautiful walks in New Zealand.
A gorgeous park with amazing views and beaches! Well maintained paths and even wifi in some of the huts! There are a lot of services like water taxis that can drop you off at any point in the park, which makes it accessible for all fitness levels!
extremely nice. Allow maybe 4 hours for the walk, we only had 2 and saw a lot, but 4hours would have been perfect.
A spectacular and easy-to-visit park. It offers so many opportunities and trails. We chose to sail from Kaiteriteri to Totaranui and back because it had rained all day. Despite the bad weather and the little we saw from the sea, we still loved the park. We managed to see some seals on the rocks and others swimming. If we were to return, we would choose to stay at a lodge for a few nights. There's definitely a lot to explore by following some of the coastal trails.
An amazing spot for hiking and camping! You can easily spend days here with your friends — it’s just that beautiful. It’s hard to visit for only a few hours, because there’s always more to explore.”

We hired a double Kayak for a self guided tour from Mitch. Communication and booking was super easy and we had a wonderful experience on the kayaks. The equipment is in super condition and Mitch gives you a detailed and fun information on how to kayak in an efficient (and cool looking 😉) way, where there are good photo spots and a lot of safety measures. After that, you go down to the water and off you go! Kayaking along the shore of Abel Tasman National Park is a very beautiful experience, paddling from bay to bay and choosing your picnic points on your own time and preferences. You can also kayak to the islands across and look at seals from a safe distance from the water. Mitch is a great, easy going guy and offers kayak rental at competitive prices, definitely get your kayaks from here!
This is the only local, non-commercialized operation left for touring Abel Tasman and renting Kayaks. If supporting local mom and pop businesses is important to you, then book with Mitch (owner). You will get access to local knowledge and good gear as well as the best price - cheaper than the commercial outfitters. Mitch was very thorough to ensure comfort on the water and we had a wonderful time exploring the two islands and various beautiful beaches. He was also very kind and took extra time to give us personalized suggestions on what to do/see. He’s been doing this for years and lived in the town for over 25 and is a wealth of local knowledge. Highly recommend!
If you want to rent a kayak to visit Abel Tasman this is the place to go! Mitch was very thorough with his safety briefing and provides all the necessary gear. All the equipment was in great condition. We had a great day trip to Anchorage where we left the kayak to be picked up and then walked back.
We really recommend Mitch. He doing his job with love. We rented kayak for three days. Got really detailed briefing which gave us confident. Kayak was equipped with all the necessities. We got two big dry bags and one smaller bag, gloves, shoes and t-shirt which was good protection against sunshine. We definitely recommend to book kayak for more than one day as briefing is quite long but it comes handy and prepare you for all the scenarios which can happend.
warm welcome, friendly guidance and very usefull tips for one day kayak experience made us happy on sea
Really recommend kayaking in the Abel Tasman with Independent Guides. Mitch, the owner, is a fantastic man and super passionate about kayaks. Also he gives a really detailed good introduction - so all In all a big five star experience. also. The views on the water seeing the seals and chilling on the different islands are just amazing!
We had an amazing sunny day in peace by ourself at sea ! The owners are super welcoming, the safety instructions and proper gears are available. No worries you will surely have a great and funny time with Independent Guides. Very affordable and still open in winter 🥶 for courage peeps. Thanks
Highly recommend this place for kayak hire, great location at the front of the campsite. Very thorough and helpful briefing, good gear and friendly, knowledgeable instructor.
