Remote Buddhist temple with origins in the 6th century AD, reached by an uphill walk through forest.

Be prepared for an uphill battle, but it's worth it 10x fold
No. 4 temple on the Saikoku 33 pilgrimage. Noted as being one of the tougher hikes to the top of the mountain to reach the temple. But just take stops on the way up and it’s fine, great views when you get there.
Very beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Buddha, full of natural beauty around the temple...
(Translated by Google) I visited the temple for the first time in several years, but the bypass that had been closed to traffic has been completed and an entrance fee (500 yen per person) is now required, so it's hard to tell whether it's become easier or more difficult to get to. This time, I was able to visit the temple interior (500 yen per person), take photos, and see many precious Buddhas and statues of the Four Heavenly Kings, including the horse-headed statue of Emperor Kazan's foot guardian deity, which I personally found very rewarding.
(Translated by Google) This is Sefukuji Temple, the fourth of the Thirty-three Temples of Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. There is a parking lot below the mountain gate, so I arrived early in the morning at around 8:10 and parked closest to the gate. I was very grateful to be able to park for free. After paying the entrance fee in front of the mountain gate and getting ready to head to Sefukuji Temple, I saw a young couple coming down from above dressed like they were trekking. I remember the gates opening at 8:00, so is it possible to go earlier? Or did they only need about 15 minutes to get to the top and back? My visit to the temple began with a mystery. It is said to be one of the most difficult of the Thirty-three Temples, and honestly, I regretted visiting it because it was so tough. Just as expected, it took a full 30 minutes to get to Sefukuji Temple. It seemed rude to pray and receive a goshuin stamp while drenched in sweat, so I caught my breath on a bench in front of the temple grounds and waited until my sweat had dried a bit before praying and receiving my goshuin stamp. As for copying sutras, they are stacked at the prayer area, so you just remove the weight and submit the one you brought with you. While my goshuin stamp was being written, I was given a look around the inside. Surprisingly, photography was allowed, so I was able to take pictures of the various Kannon statues. Honestly, I've never seen a temple with so many Kannon statues! It was a really great experience. The really tough part was going down. If it were stairs, it would be fine, but it was a slope with an incline. You put a lot of weight on your feet, especially your toes. I wouldn't say you should wear hiking boots, but it's best to wear sneakers that really fit your feet, and to descend carefully, taking each step slowly and not going too fast!

It takes about 30 minutes to climb the 1,000 steps. When you arrive, drenched in sweat, you'll find the main hall and mountain temple smaller than you'd expected. Many temples deep in the mountains, similar to this one, charge triple fees for parking, mountain entrance, and red seal, but this one is very reasonable (^^♪ Free bamboo walking sticks are available for borrowing next to the shop at the foot of the mountain. Parking is free, and the mountain entrance fee is 500 yen. My companion suggested avoiding the summer, so we decided to visit at the end of November, and it was a good decision. It's quite a climb in the summer, and you might end up sweating profusely. It was quite a climb. I was glad I borrowed the free walking sticks. I arrived out of breath...the next day, my calves were sore. 😅 I passed one person after another, exchanging pleasant greetings as I made my way to the top. ✨ There were other hikers there, too. After receiving the temple seals, I was encouraged to take unlimited photos of the Buddha statues for 500 yen! So I went inside...and took lots of photos of the Buddha statues, lol. There was also a cute cat there. It's been a while since I last climbed a mountain. On the way back downhill, I kept looking down, lest I slip. It takes a lot of determination and perseverance. The 1,100 steps and the man at the shop below told me that. Since I'd already conquered the most difficult temple on the mountain path, I felt like the others would be a breeze, lol. My fortune was a great one, and I got a Daikoku-sama charm (to put in my wallet). I was able to visit during the beautiful autumn foliage season, which was the perfect time of year. It seems to be an ancient place of worship for Shugendo sect practitioners. That said, the mountain path is quite steep. It's not a big deal if you're equipped for hiking, but if you're going to worship, I highly recommend proper shoes and clothing. You'll have to go up and down a series of stone-paved stairs. The path beyond the temple is a hiking trail, so proper equipment is also required here. Don't make the mistake. I mean I love this place . Must visit . No bus will go you have to go by taxi or by your own car 🚗 . Monday will be closed. Free parking . No entry fees. Vending machine available . Photogenic spot. Saturday Sunday vegetable day but you can still enjoy scenes of flowers
A must visit place in Izumi. Whole year round beautiful flowers❤️
I visited this place when the sunflowers blooming—but sadly I couldn't get the right timing (because many sunflowers petals already withered). The field itself has different monthly flowers that they grow—in e.g. for july-august they grow sunflowers and for september they'll grow cosmos. I think I will visit here again on the right timing later. The place is not far from the city and there are also ice cream, smoothies, and vending machines so you don't need to worry about getting any beverage if you feel thirsty.
Very nice. Ice cream stand. Lots of parking. Pretty flowers
Better to go there when you have a car. The road from the Noke Bus Stop to the park is uphill and steep and me and my friends just walked the way. The park though is very eye candy. Lots of flowers in bloom. Perfect for having a picnic!
It's July and the weather is so hot.
Huge gardens and park areas. Charming local spot.

This was the best museum of all the ones we visited. They had a recorder you could listen to for each display they had. Interesting history, stories, and artifacts. The most amazing thing was they were all found right in the area we were in. The attached photo is one about the queen of that time, very interesting.
Rather nice museum dedicated to the yayoi period. Entire 2nd floor showcasing tools, pottery, start of agriculture, domestication of animals, etc. Little to no english didactics, but i think there are audio guides available for rent. There is a discount for university students.
The museum is small but you can still enjoy it. The colections are from people from stone age up to steel age and how to these people run their live in the past. And many conclution made that there is many influence from Chinese culture and politic
incredibly affordable admission (300ish yen?), few other visitors, very nice atmosphere despite its’ relatively small size (2 exhibit halls when we visited), the museum has quite a bit packed into its space - enough to spend around 3 hours with, especially to anyone interested in prehistoric japan - it even has an area where you can dress up in yayoi clothes for pictures staff were very friendly as well
Very interesting. Not overly large but had some very nice exhibits. Also had a nice pamphlet in English.
It's a nice little museum located near the train station, around 15 minutes of walk. It provides English audio device for you to understand what's being exhibited in the museum. The staff at the ticketing counter was very friendly and nice to help me store my luggage. The audio guide has two parts, one is the characters narrated story and another one is the explanation of the artifacts. Although it is small, it could take up to 2-3 hours to fully explore the museum.

The Yayoi period was a time when rice cultivation began and conflicts over land and water began. Amid these conflicts, relationships between people became more complex as villages evolved into kuni. Settlements were enclosed with trenches and fences, people carried weapons, international exchange and politics began, and Himiko appeared. It was a period of complete change from the conflict-free Jomon period. Many of the exhibits were made of iron or wood, and pottery became simple and unadorned. Culture from overseas, such as bronze bells and bronze mirrors, was also introduced. These highlight the significant changes in values from the Jomon period. The first exhibition room provides a wide introduction to Yayoi culture from all over Japan, while artifacts excavated from the Ikegami-Sone ruins are on display in the second room. Aerial photographs of the surrounding area are affixed to the floor, making the site's geographical location easy to understand. When I visited, the special exhibition featured bronze mirrors, and there was a corner where visitors were asked to answer riddles. Beautiful mirrors, including a triangular-rimmed divine beast mirror, were also on display, similar to those handed down at shrines. You could also take photos dressed in costumes from the time of Himiko. Lectures and concerts are sometimes held on the first floor, so it might be a good idea to check in advance and attend one. Approximately half of the area is surrounded by a fence, and features reproductions of pit dwellings from the Yayoi period. Among them, the large building called ``Izumi no Takadono'' has an impressive scale that is far removed from the image of traditional Yayoi-style residences. Although the park itself is not very large, the actual ruins are spread over a much larger area. Currently, the Second Hanwa Road runs through the middle of the ruins, and many parts have been turned into residential areas or farmland. There are so many final shrines that it would take quite a while to visit them all. The sacred tree in the center is very large and magnificent, and there is plenty of space for you to touch it. However, the secret book was stolen, and Yasuna's lover named Sakaki no Mae committed suicide due to the blunder. ▼Yasuna was wandering around Shintaimori in Izumi Province feeling pessimistic. He tries to free a white fox that was being chased in this forest, but he is seriously injured. When he wakes up in his care, there is Princess Kuzunoha, who looks exactly like Sakaki before. Yasuna marries Kuzunoha Hime and they have a son. This is the later Seimei Abe. ▼One day, while Yasuna and Princess Kuzunoha were spending happy days in the Tennoji area of Osaka, a woman came to visit Yasuna. Her name is Kuzuha Hime. ``What's going on?'' Yasuna looked at Seimei's mother, and she saw that just a moment ago, she was a young woman, but now she saw the white fox she rescued in Shinta Forest... . ▼The story goes that the white fox, whose true identity was discovered, entrusted Seimei to Yasuna and returned to Shinta Forest with a broken heart. ▼There is a famous song that he wrote to his son Seimei at that time. “If you miss me, come and visit Izumi Naru Shinta Forest’s Urami Kuzuha.” Translation: If you miss your mother, please come visit me. Former prefectural shrine. Also known as "Shinoda Myojin," "Shinoda Shrine," and "Shinoda Seisha." Main deity: Hijiri no Okami (Hijiri's Wolf) [Related clan] Shinoda no Obito In the "Shinsen Shojiroku," a section on the various barbarians of Izumi Province, a "Shinoda no Obito" (Shinoda Head), said to be a descendant of Hyakusen, a native of Baekje, is listed. The shrine's history states that this clan founded the shrine. According to historical records, This is a vast shrine located on a mountaintop. Although it is now surrounded by newly developed residential areas, it was originally located deep in the mountains. The surrounding area was once known as "Shinoda no Mori." The main sacred deity is regarded as the "Hichiri" deity, the god of the calendar. During the Edo period, the people of the Tosha shrine's parishioners, the dance towns, were granted the privilege of making calendars and performed dances at festivals. The "Hichiri" deity was worshipped by onmyoji (onmyoji) from a clan of immigrants from the peninsula. A legend is told about the birth of Abe no Seimei, the renowned doctor of onmyoji. It is said that on August 15, 675, by imperial order, Shinta Kubi Seijin was enshrined. There was a shrine temple called Banshoji, where monks served, but it was abandoned following the separation of Shinto and Buddhism after the Meiji Restoration. The main hall and shrine grounds, built by Toyotomi Hideyori at the command of Katagiri Katsumoto during the Keicho era (1596-1615), remain, and are designated as Important Cultural Properties by the National Government. (Translated by Google) Komyoike Green Space is a quiet and spacious oasis that will help you forget the hustle and bustle of the city. There are promenades around the large pond, and many people enjoy walking and jogging there. Swans, ducks and other waterfowl swim gracefully in the pond, and you can feel the richness of nature. In particular, in spring, the rows of cherry blossom trees bloom beautifully, creating a magnificent view. The lawn is also spacious, and many families enjoy picnics with their lunchboxes spread out. There are also many shady areas, so you can relax and avoid the sun. In summer, the cool breeze from the pond is pleasant and helps you forget the heat of the city. There are also many benches, so it is recommended to take a break and enjoy the view. It is also a good time to quietly read a book or just stare up at the sky. It is a precious space where you can interact with nature even in the city. It is also very convenient, as you can access Komyoike Station by walking a little. It's a truly wonderful green space that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, from families with small children to the elderly. Because of this, you can enjoy the view on the pond side and enjoy walking. There are various plants and flowers around, so it's fun to look at them. It also serves as a jogging course with a circumference of approximately 4km. There were several people running. Part of the north side of the pond is walkable on the road. Most of the roads are made of asphalt, but there are some areas of dirt. There are also some stairs to climb, so be careful if you have difficulty walking. Parking is free for up to 2 hours. It took less than an hour to go half way around the north side of Komyo Bridge. The difference in elevation and the fact that you can see far into the distance are also great for walking comfortably.
