We visited this palace which has pools and water features. There are many photo worthy spots here although the steps going from one section to another are pretty steep. We enjoyed our visit here.
I visited Taman Sari Tourist Village and found it really interesting to walk around. The old bathing pools and underground passages give you a glimpse of the history and culture of Yogyakarta. The surrounding village is also fun to explore with small shops and local people selling crafts. It is not a huge site but it is unique and worth a visit if you are already near the palace.
We visited Taman Sari Royal Garden because we were looking for a place that was open that day — it was my second to the last day in Yogyakarta, and unfortunately, the palace itself was closed. I’m glad we ended up here though, because it turned out to be a really unique and memorable experience. It wasn’t too crowded when we went — there were a mix of locals and foreigners, and the atmosphere felt calm and pleasant. The sun was very hot outside, but once you go inside the chambers and passageways of the garden, it becomes surprisingly cool. Each section feels like a hidden corner full of history and charm. What stood out to me most were the many small pathways and exits all around the garden. There seems to be only one main entrance, but several exits lead into nearby residential areas or small alleys that connect to local streets. It really gives you a sense of how this place once functioned as a living, breathing royal space — private, mysterious, and full of life. Even though the structures are old, you can still imagine how stunning it must have been at its peak — with the pools, gardens, and chambers in their full glory. It’s one of those places that lets you step back in time and feel part of Yogyakarta’s royal history. A truly cool and fascinating place to explore — peaceful, historical, and worth the visit.
I have no regrets about visiting this historical site, even with the crazy heat in Jogja that day. It definitely still needs ongoing maintenance and preservation. Taman Sari was the Sultan's / King’s former water castle/bathhouse, I can only imagine how grand and cool this place was back then. Entrance is 25K.
Taman Sari (often called the Water Castle) is one of Yogyakarta's most popular and historically fascinating tourist destinations. Taman Sari Water Castle: Taman Sari, which means "fragrant garden," is a beautiful and unique former royal garden and leisure complex of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta, built in the 18th century. It is known for unique architecture, photo opportunities, and historical atmosphere. The Vibe & Highlights Architectural Beauty:The complex is a striking blend of Javanese, Islamic, and European architectural styles. The most stunning and well-preserved section is the central bathing complex. The Royal Pools (Umbul Binangun): This is the main attraction. It features three dazzling blue pools—one for the Princesses, one for the Queens, and a secluded one for the Sultan. A watchtower sits between the pools, from which the Sultan reportedly chose a consort as they bathed below. The Underground Mosque (Sumur Gumuling): This unique, circular two-story mosque is hidden underground and accessed via an Escher-esque set of stairways. Its design creates unique acoustics that allow the imam's voice to be heard clearly without a microphone. This is a favorite spot for photos. The Kampung Taman Village: The complex is nested within a charming, traditional Javanese residential neighborhood (Kampung Taman). Exploring the narrow alleyways offers a glimpse into local life, including small shops selling traditional arts like batik. Location :Located just a short distance (approx. 2 km) south of the Kraton (Sultan's Palace). Opening Hours :Generally open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily. Entrance Fee (Foreigners) Approximately IDR 25,000 (Indonesian Rupiah). Estimated Visit: Time 30 minutes to 1 hour, plus time to explore the surrounding village. Getting There: Easily reached via becak (pedicab), andong (horse cart), or ride-hailing services (e.g., Grab). Best Tips for Your Visit 1. Hire a Guide (with caution): Local guides are available and highly recommended, as they can provide fascinating historical context and mystical stories that bring the ruins to life. However, a common traveler tip is to be aware that some guides may be insistent about taking you to a family batik or craft shop afterward. 2. Explore the Tunnels:Don't just stay in the main pool area. Ask locals or your guide to point you toward the entrance to the underground tunnels and the Gumuling Well. 3. Dress Modestly:As a cultural and former royal site, dressing respectfully (avoiding overly short or revealing clothes) is appreciated. 4. Combine with the Kraton:Taman Sari makes a perfect half-day excursion when combined with a visit to the nearby Kraton (Sultan's Palace).
Historical place where it was bath place for kings back in the time. It wows you with the architecture and the beauty of the place. It is quite a big complex where you will walk a lot and tons of place to take beautiful pictures. There will be guides once you enter who will offer their service, totally up to you to take it. Some alleys are in the neighbourhood area which means you will walk around people’s house.
Taman Sari has an interesting old royal structure and some really nice photo spots, but it’s definitely overhyped and heavily crowded. Good for a quick look, not ideal if you want a calm historical experience.
Taman Sari, nestled in a charming neighborhood, offers a fascinating look into Yogyakarta's royal past. This "Water Castle" complex, though undeniably small-scale and showing minimal recent maintenance, possesses a unique appeal. The entrance fee is low, making it an accessible historical site. A delightful aspect is the freedom to climb atop some of the remaining gate structures, providing interesting views. Guides are present, but be prepared: ours, while informative and willing to take photos, was quite insistent on leading us to his shop afterward. We ultimately "escaped" through the gates, which made for a memorable, if slightly comical, end to our visit! Despite its modest size and condition, Taman Sari's unique charm and the freedom to explore make it a worthwhile stop for those seeking a less polished, more adventurous historical experience.

I visited Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat and it was a really good experience 👑. The place is full of history and culture, and you can really feel the atmosphere of the old royal palace. The ticket can be bought directly at the entrance. If you want to get a deeper understanding, it’s highly recommended to take a local guide. They explain the stories and history very well, and also give you time to explore and take pictures. The fee for the guide is up to you, usually around 50k to 100k, and it’s definitely worth it for a richer experience. There’s also a traditional performance held every day in the morning from 9 AM to 11 AM, which adds a special cultural touch to the visit. Overall, it’s a must-visit place if you’re in Yogyakarta, especially if you want to learn more about Javanese royal heritage and traditions.
Just because i look like an Indonesian, does not mean I am one, and it does not mean I understand the Indonesian language. Please treat your visitors better. Overall this place could be better, there wasn't much guidance and descriptions. I guess if you want to fully understand the whole history and concept, you should hire a tour guide.
I recently visited the Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat—a place steeped in history and emblematic of Javanese royal heritage. The architecture is impressive and quintessentially traditional: ornate wooden carvings, elegant pavilions, and the serene inner courtyard exude a dignified charm. Yet, I found the experience slightly underwhelming in terms of activities. Before arriving, I had read about various cultural exhibitions and performances taking place here. However, when I visited, none were happening—I couldn’t find any visible signs or information about upcoming events or live demonstrations. This palace is undeniably a must‑see for anyone curious about Yogyakarta’s cultural roots. From a visual standpoint, it’s beautifully preserved—reflecting the grandeur and spiritual atmosphere of the royal court. But for those seeking immersive or interactive experiences, it may feel static and purely observational. The visit was more about appreciating the architecture and ambiance rather than engaging with the living culture that once pulsated within these walls. In summary, the Kraton is a significant cultural and historical landmark—clean, well‑maintained, and visually striking—but somewhat lacking in stimulation or spectacle. I would recommend it as a necessary stop for cultural context and photography, but don’t go expecting performances or dynamic exhibits unless you verify beforehand. It’s a quiet, reflective experience—not a theatrical one.
Visiting historical places is always fun, and during school holidays, exploring temple sites is a must! One top destination is the Yogyakarta Palace (Keraton), filled with cultural treasures and ornaments that tell stories of our ancestors and the long history of Javanese art and tradition. The way Javanese heritage is presented here is super engaging—it really grabs kids’ attention and helps them connect with their cultural roots. Such a fun and meaningful holiday! To enter the Keraton, you buy a ticket, and there are guides available in various languages to take you around and explain everything. It’s a great mix of vacation and learning about Indonesia’s unique culture and history. 🅿️ quite limited 🚾 Several spots around Keraton
As some others have said, it's a lackluster experience where you just wander around the courtyards, observing the architecture from afar and seeing some random objects scattered about. No performances or exhibits while I was there, nor were any advertised even if they did have them hidden somewhere. Many schools come here on educational trips, and they clearly take staff priority over tourists. Also, if you use Google Maps and you are coming from the water palace of the southern area, it will likely try to send you walking in from the back exit. Be prepared to get told off by staff, saying you need to "go around" to the entrance while being oblivious of any wrongdoing.
I will say “this is the only active palace in Indonesia which still upholds their true culture and identity”. Ticket price is decent, well managed and maintained, high standard without losing its uniqueness. The guards are amazing, they really doing their job while adjusting to tourist activity (not the other way around), this is rare in this era.
Must visit - we loved the palace grounds. There are a number of small exhibitions on different topics which we liked. There was a wayang kulit performance happening along with the gamelan orchestra and it was amazing.
Beautiful heritage building, very well manage and clean. All the people are polite. Great place to find out some of the history of Yogyakarta.

Not too bad, but there’s a lot of fraudster here, but seller here is also friendly, but not all of them LOL. Overall this place is so good, and the view is so… beautiful!
Memories Road our Love 🥰🔥🥰
There’s always a reason to return to Jogja. A city full of memories, amazing food, and an atmosphere that keeps you coming back
We visited this bustling street in the evening and it was pretty crowded. There are many shops selling batik, apparel, food and souvenirs. There were many horse carriages for rent as well as trishaws. We found that there were more food options at the mall. The road is closed to motorised vehicles in the evening and open to pedestrians only. A must visit place in Yogyakarta especially in the evening.
World famous Jalan Malioboro. Good place to shop, dine and relaxing
Center of Yogyakarta tourist activity, lots of places to eat drink and souvenirs shopping, lively in evening, try to get hotel near Malioboro street.
Beautiful street with a lot of local tourists. Good for shopping! But PLEASE BE AWARE OF SCAMMERS if you’re a foreigner. Some guys from the streets telling you it’s your lucky day because TODAY IS THE LAST DAY of the exhibition. It was all tourists inside! They had a piece of canvas with some old-looking art and kept explaining ‘how it’s done.’ Then they offered free coffee and tea, repeating ‘hospitality, hospitality!’ We left straight away, don’t want to know what happens next. Biggest scammers ever.

We were guided through the museum by Mba Amber. She was humorous and very knowledgeable about the museum's contents. Her explanations were easy to understand. The place is spacious, has a large collection, cool temperature, but a bit spooky (for me) 😁🙏🏻
It's so fun visiting this museum. There are 3 options if you want to visit and enter the museum. Each option gives you a different historical explanation and also a different admission ticket starting 50k-100k/person. NB: the guide will explain the history and no taking photos inside allowed. You can take photos once you finish the tour.
It was such an amazing experience! Ullen Sentalu is a 1.2ha private museum in the north part of Jogja. They divide the museum into 3 parts based on the tour theme (details of each theme can be seen on their website). I tried 2 out of 3 tours and they were all amazing. The guides were very informative and funny, and the collections were nicely handled and curated. If you have plenty of time, you should try all the tours, but if you do not, I recommend you try the Vorstenlanden tour. This tour has the biggest area, is more focused on keraton history, and you can get tea and cookies at the end of the tour to feel an Indische vibe. The museum itself was magical; I liked the garden so much. Unfortunately, documentation inside the tour area is prohibited due to copyright. They have a restaurant and a gallery in the exit area if you are hungry after the tour or want to buy some batik or accessories.
Very fulfilling visit guided by mbak Tina 🫶 we arrived at about 14.45 and was immediately escorted to start the tour. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Strictly no photos, videos or voice recording allowed, only in designated spots for pictures. Took the Vorstenlanden tour, 1 hour, ended with a cute little tea time, highly recommended. English guided tour available.
We did about one hour drive from the city to reach this place, which is located at the foot of Mount Merapi. The museum has 3 zones of tour to choose and I chose the Adiluhung Mataram Tour, which explains about the history of Javanese royalties. But the #1 rule of the museum is: you cannot take photos or videos along the tour. So we just took them outside. With all the greeneries around, you can still take beautiful pictures :)
I had a great time at the museum, especially during the Vorstenlanden Tour. However, I do have one complaint: a group of more than 12 people who were not part of our tour suddenly joined in, and the guide didn’t say anything about it. This made us uncomfortable, as these individuals didn’t pay the IDR 100,000 fee like we did. The tour and the museum itself were excellent, but allowing people to join without any control or restriction feels unfair to those who actually paid.
Very authentic museum with great garden… but they didnt let me take a photo(((. Only video of the garden which was raining very beautifully
The place are located in Kaliurang (45-50 minutes from city center) Very easy access if you're using car or motorcycle. Parking area also big. It's magical place. The atmosphere are like in fairytale vibes. The guide are friendly, humble, and of course full of knowledge. It's non-goverment museum. In here we learned about the history of Keraton, from Mataram Kuno untill separate to Keraton Yogya and Keraton Solo. Just in certain area you can took picture and video (it's the rule here) If I allow to give an advice, please take care more the Toilet.. the place are great, it will be perfect if the toilet are more cleaner, comforable and nice. Overall, I recommended this at least once in your life to go here haha Thankyou Ullen Sentalu and all crew there! Wish you all the best!

Ancient palace complex dated back to 8th century. Located up in a hill, the area are pretty big, you can still see the entrace gate, fort, hall, bath pool (carved in a stone), stupa, etc. The ambiance is very nice and relaxing, especially in the afternoon to sunset time.
Really nice temple or rather temple ruins, definitely worth visiting. Unfortunately open only till 17:00, above from the temple would be really nice to watch the sunset... Though there were still many people around, not sure if 17:00 is really a (hard) closing time...
People used to call this place "Candi" or temple, but actually this is a palace as described in the ancient inscription. This palace cover a quite huge walk area to explore, and it's an open space. This ancient palace is a recommended place for those who loves photography and history. Since it's located in the higher ground, you will be able to see Prambanan temple from this palace
Located in the eastern part of Yogyakarta, Ratu Boko is a great family-friendly destination to enjoy the sunset. The area is spacious, hilly, and surrounded by lush greenery, offering a calm and relaxing atmosphere. I recommend visiting around 3–4 PM when the weather is pleasant and not too hot. I visited with international friends, about the ticket price is quite affordable for locals, though a bit expensive for international visitors. It’s best to get the bundled ticket that includes access to Borobudur or Prambanan temples for better value. Overall, if you’re visiting Yogyakarta and looking for a peaceful temple with fewer crowds, Ratu Boko is definitely worth considering.
Place with full history and memories. Beautiful and remarkable views. We use the tour guide service from Mr Naswanto, he is very good to explain everything in this area. It made our journey meaningful. We visit here as a package with prambanan temple. It has toilet, musholla, park benches and many food seller also. So don't worry if you get tired.
Throwback to 2023, still amazed by the beauty in the simplicity of Candi Ratu Boko. This temple isn’t so grand, but it has such a mesmerizing aura. It's located on higher ground, so the atmosphere feels cool and refreshing. The walking paths toward the temple are well-arranged, with green lawns that make the scenery even more soothing. I was lucky to visit during sunset hour, so the view was truly breathtaking. Calm, serene, and memorable. I'd love to come again if I could. It’s absolutely worth a visit for its charm and magical sunset vibes.
Must-visit historical site in Yogyakarta! Keraton Ratu Boko, or Ratu Boko Palace, is a stunning ancient royal complex perched on a hill, offering breathtaking sunset views. Explore the ruins, learn about its rich history, and soak up the mystical atmosphere. A hidden gem worth discovering!
Bought the ticket via traveloka, just teeny tiny bit cheaper than ots ticket. Got a good walk around the area. Got there around 4.15 pm. Walked around for almost an hour and rest by the main Gapura to look at the sun setting, was cloudy though. We just sat there by the grass. But some people brought picnic mat/blanket. There's musholla near the main Gapura, and also i think there's another one by the locket? Not sure about the 2nd one, but there's a sign near it. Oh. By the locket there's brochure about the site.

Visited Candi Sewu with the family as part of our must-do temple trip during the school holidays. It was our first time doing a temple tour in Central Java — we started with Borobudur, then headed to Candi Sewu, which is in the same complex as Prambanan. The temple complex is fascinating, full of historical vibes and legendary stories. It was such a great experience exploring Candi Sewu, especially seeing the ancient reliefs and realizing why it’s called “Sewu” (meaning “a thousand”) — there are so many temples there! Taking kids to historical sites like this is a fun way for them to learn about Indonesia’s rich culture and compare what they see with what they learn in school books. Must visit sites of temples in central java with plenty of greenery around the complex. 🅿️ Plenty parking spots 🚻 Clean and have several toilets around
Not as impressive as the nearby Prambanan but still really awesome place to witness. It's included in your Prambanan ticket but much less crowded than the Prambanan temple. You can climb all the monument and enter rooms at will. As of September 2025 there's quite a few structures that are undergoing restoration so you may see construction materials.
One of the two that you can't miss when visiting Prambanan temple complex. It's a mixed temple of both Buddhist n Hindu influences. A bit far from its peers as it's located at the right back of the complex but quiet at time during the day. As the entrance ticket covers this one, you are recommended to visit all, at least this candi.
Less crowded because it's 1 km far away from main temple (Prambanan). Also it's because weekdays and not public holiday. If u don't want walk, u can rent bicycle
Very nice ancient temples complex , 400 years before angkor period.
Beautiful Buddhist Temple with Hindu Influence. 2nd largest Buddhist temple after Borobudur in Indonesia. Sadly most of the original Buddha heads have been looted from the site but nonetheless we are in awe of how magnificent this complex was during the 8th Century Shailendra Dynasty
Absolutely fascinating. We preferred this to Prambanan as it was much less busy and the entry fee was included in the ticket for Prambanan. The entrance at the South side says closed but you just need to go round to the East side (to the right) to enter. You can walk inside the temples and get some brilliant photos. So amazing to think that years ago there were 249 temples!
Impressive, particularly when you envision how the area must have looked like with all 248 temples still standing... no admission to this temple

Stunning show! The night I went, they showcased Rama, similar to the dances you'll see in Bali (kecak). Except this one was a lot better. The choreography was smoother, a grandeur pyrotechnic show, and of course... the unbeatable view of Prambanan Temple glowing majestically in the background. We wanted VIP seats and book in advance but weren't able to as weather was unpredictable, so we were told to buy on the spot. Luckily, sky was clear that night. We waited in line from 6:40pm for the 7:30pm show and the line was already a decent length, so, better get there at least an hour before if you have to go through a ticket war like we did. We were able to successfully secure VIP seats, front-row and cushy, which included light refreshments and drinks during the break - except the break was only 10 minutes, and of course there was a line, so people were still getting snacks and drinks while the second part of the show began to play. It also included access to VIP-only restrooms which was nice - newly updated restrooms. Getting in and out of the venue was easy.
We watched this music and dance performance after visiting Prambanan Temple. We arrived early but unfortunately, there is no waiting for show attendees. The restaurant there was for people who had booked a meal. The performance was interesting but interrupted by rain, upon which we had to re-assemble in the indoor hall. It was quite chaotic as the staff did not use a loudspeaker to give instructions. Nonetheless, it was a rich cultural experience watching the show.
It was fun. At the beginning, the choreography was great. Then it turned into a circus with kids playing spirits. The acrobatics and breakdance were fun, but I didn't expect them at the ballet. The music equipment and the background image on the tv are mediocre. Seats are good. The story is dubbed in English but it's better to read it beforehand with ChatGPT. Overall, for the price it's a good show.
I was so pleased to be able to see their performance again. It's worth it and mesmerizing. Not my first time to come and see Ramayana Ballet Prambanan, but it is the first time to watch it Indoor. The entrance (Trimurti) is located next to Rama Shinta Garden Resto. They're performing indoor during rainy season and outdoor the first half of the year. Ticket to be purchased online, through third party or their official website.
Booked for the outdoor extra show session at 17:30 WIB for the Rama & Sinta story. Overall, it was a good performance, but I have some notes based on my experience: - I chose the south second-class seat, and as you can see from my picture, I couldn’t capture the Prambanan Temple as the performance background like in the advertisement. I was fine with it as the performance was excellent, but it could be nice if there was more information regarding the layout. I feel like people choose and pay for the outdoor area to have the experience of watching the performance with the Prambanan Temple as the background of the show. So, tips for everyone that will watch the 17:30 show: choose the VIP section if you can, but if the VIP section is sold out, I’d recommend you choose the north side section. - I entered the outdoor amphitheater area around 17:28-ish and was kind of afraid I would miss the beginning of the show. Apparently, the show started at around 18:00 or 6 PM-ish. And again, I think the organiser could at least put this information for the public. - As someone who is kind of familiar with the story, I could at least follow the general timeline of the performance. But in my opinion, I think it would be great if the organiser could provide some sort of summary about the story and a snapshot of the characters that will appear in the performance on the official website or social media (PDF file), or provide a printed handout for those who are interested. I still give 5 stars since I really enjoyed the performance and am very happy that we have a platform to showcase and preserve our tradition, but there is definitely some room for improvement for the organiser to make the audience’s experience even better. ❤️
A Captivating Cultural Experience through the Ramayana Ballet Watching the Ramayana dance performance was a wonderful opportunity to experience how an ancient epic can be transformed into living art and culture. The show beautifully elevates the story into a modern artistic expression while honoring its traditional roots. I highly recommend getting VIP seats to fully appreciate the entire stage — the view is spectacular. With a 9th-century temple as the backdrop, the performance unfolds like a romantic dream, blending history and art in a truly magical way. The combination of powerful action scenes and elegant traditional dance creates a dynamic and unforgettable performance. The Indonesian-style happy ending adds a joyful twist, making the experience both entertaining and heartwarming. I would definitely love to see it again. Having a basic understanding of the Ramayana story beforehand will help you enjoy the performance even more. Arigato from Japan~🇯🇵
I came here to watch the Shinta Obong Show, which only takes place every Friday, with the stunning view of the three main Prambanan temples right behind the stage. The whole experience already felt special and sacred from the entrance. After getting my wristband ticket, I was welcomed with a drink that had a refreshing ginger and lemongrass taste. The show started a bit late, so we had to wait longer than expected, but with the sunset view as the backdrop, I didn’t really mind. Before the performance, the staff guided us through a short ritual where I received a frangipani flower, a wooden bracelet, and a sprinkle of holy water (if I’m not mistaken). After the show, dinner was served buffet style. The food was delicious—the highlight for me was definitely the sate klatak and the soup (I forgot the name, xixi).
It's a great experience. The dancers are very good, and the story is engaging. There are even some fireworks. The only downside was the non-VIP seating, which is just concrete. I suggest bringing something to sit on.

Nestled amidst lush rice fields near Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Candi Plaosan stands as a testament to timeless love and architectural splendor. Often overshadowed by its more famous neighbor, the Prambanan Temple, this hidden gem offers a serene and intimate experience, making it an ideal destination for couples seeking a romantic retreat. Built in the 9th century, Candi Plaosan is renowned for its unique blend of Hindu and Buddhist architectural elements, symbolizing the harmonious union of different cultures. The temple complex is divided into two main structures: Plaosan Lor (North Plaosan) and Plaosan Kidul (South Plaosan), each adorned with intricate carvings and statues that narrate ancient tales of devotion and artistry. One of the most enchanting aspects of Candi Plaosan is its tranquil ambiance. Unlike the bustling tourist spots, this temple remains relatively undiscovered, allowing visitors to explore its beauty without the usual crowds. The surrounding verdant landscape, combined with the temple’s majestic stone structures, creates a picturesque setting, especially during sunrise or sunset when the soft light casts a golden hue over the temple grounds. For couples, a visit to Candi Plaosan can be a deeply romantic experience. Strolling hand in hand through the temple’s courtyards, taking in the serene atmosphere, and marveling at the ancient architecture can create lasting memories. The temple’s history, believed to be a monument of love, adds an extra layer of significance for those sharing the experience with a loved one. While Prambanan Temple is undoubtedly a masterpiece worth visiting, incorporating Candi Plaosan into your itinerary offers a unique and intimate perspective on Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. Its off-the-beaten-path allure provides a peaceful escape, allowing visitors to connect more deeply with the site’s historical and spiritual essence.
Located in the eastern part of Yogyakarta, this temple offers a serene escape not far from the famous Prambanan Temple. Often referred to as Candi Kembar (Twin Temples), it presents a unique and peaceful atmosphere that contrasts beautifully with the grandeur of its more famous neighbor. Despite its relatively modest scale, the temple’s charm lies in its quiet surroundings and the spiritual ambiance that gently embraces every visitor. The temple complex is well-maintained, with clean and neat paths that make exploring the site a pleasant experience. The view around the temple is truly breathtaking, with lush greenery and open skies adding to its tranquil appeal. As a Buddhist temple, it holds spiritual significance for practicing Buddhists, who often come here to pray and meditate. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, this site offers a beautiful blend of culture and serenity.
An easy temple to visit after also visiting Prambanan. 50,000rp international entrance fee. There is a motorbike parking opposite the entrance. Two Hindu and Buddhist temples to explore as well as lots of stone work to see that is still being restored
A Hindu and Buddhist mix temple built when a Hindu princes was married to Buddhist prince. Very well maintained situated few km from Prambanan temple, not crowded at all,it has 2 main temple dedicated, one is said male temple another female, may be because one may have dedicated to a god and another to goddess.
Very well maintained n picturesque candi that one should not miss. Very beautiful, quiet surrounded by jogja's rural neighborhoods.
The ticket price has hiked from 5k to 50k for foreigners, but you can see much of the temple outside the fence.
So beautiful and cheaper than going to the bigger temple but shares a lot of the same beautiful architecture - the guys at the front are super friendly as well. Foreigner tickets are 50k. You get to walk inside the temple and take beautiful photos I highly reccomend.
Last month was the first time I visited this temple. I am amazed with it. I met bapak juru pelihara and he explained the history of it. This temple is combined between Buddhism and Hinduism. He also explained how the sticked beetwen one stone to another stone. Several days ago, I took my friends to this temple also and they were amazed, too.

An excellent place for taking pictures. The entry ticket is IDR 20.000/- per person. There are various types of places inside for taking pictures like the rope bridge, flying fox, golf spot.... The staffs are helpful and provides you the safety gear and helps freely. We actually lost our car keys there and every staff helped us in finding that! Its a personal best choice at Yogyakarta 👌🏻
The spot isn't large, but the view is amazing. We visited this place passing a dam called Waduk Sermo, climbing up a hill with very steep and narrow road. After quite long climb...we reached the top and as I had expected (I saw the pics on Google) we saw a beautiful dam surrounded by green carpet all over the hill.
Nice spot to spend time, beautiful view. The only problem is the road to go there is quite challenging. You can enjoy nice view of waduk sermo from this area. Fresh air and calm nature will rejuvenate your soul. However, there's few activities that closed at the time I visit this place (mostly due to not enough visitors after the pandemic). Also not many food stall that open to bussiness, afaik only 4 on top and 2-3 at the parking lot.
The views are beautiful, especially during morning sun. Big and tall trees around. A view of a reservoir might be the best part. Many spots for photoshoots. Either free or paid and taken by a photographer. But to get here is a struggle itself. The road is too steep and narrow. No clear sign that direct you to the place. Be careful because side by side is deep cliffs. The trip itself is also an amazing journey. Parking lot is also a problem during peak season. Not really enough to accommodate visitors because it is too narrow.
I was a bit disappointed by this park to be honest. It's quite a far drive and it's not very big. We had bad weather, which probably didn't help. Also, all the photo spots are closed between 12-1pm, so we couldn't even access the platforms. The drive towards it was nice though!
It's a very good place for family. There are many spots for capturing pictures. But you need to pay some money each person to climb onto the spot. Yet you can also capture moments for free in any spots possible. The parking garage is available 200 m from the entrance. You may rent an ojek or you can walk by yourself. (I personally find it unworthy😅) Oh, actually 4 KM before the parking garage and entrance, some people will come to you to offer a ride with Jeep. I strongly advice you to not take any offering from people who offer you a rent to Jeep ride if you want to save money. It costs 200k. But if your car doesn't have enough cc (1250 cc minimum i guess), it's OK to take Jeep ride (due to bad condition of the road).
Love the place though the area is not big and it is far from anywhere. It is actually a lookout with a view to Waduk Sermo and its surrounding. The scenery is a good and the air is fresh. There are three 'main' photo spots, you need to pay for each spot or have a 'package' for all three spots - the photo spot fee is per person. The photographer can help to take photos by using their DSLR with price per picture that you want (e.g. can take 10 photos but only take 2-3 photos). You pay only the photos that you want and the pictures will be copied to your handphone by cable data. The photo spot and the DSLR's photo fee are 'cheap' for a tourist area.
it is nice place to be here. the road is challanging and your body must be in good condition. it is so cheap but for taking pictures in places for photo are expensive. here also you can get outbond for children. if you come here with your children, it will be nice and enjoyble

One of the most unforgettable moments of my life. The place is so magical, it almost hurts. The entire team made the whole process seamless and well-organized. Using pure human power catrol rappelling system, we descended 60 meters underground into Jomblang Cave. A little tip: bring a flashlight, it gets really dark down there. I came solo, but ended up making new friends along the way. All the guides were incredibly helpful and supportive. For IDR 500K (lunch included), it’s totally worth it. You can also spend an extra IDR 50K for two printed photos (optional). Disclaimer: The weather is out of our control, so plan accordingly.
The path at Jomblang is a bit burdensome. You have to get abseiled 40m. You might have to wait a while until you are on. In the cave you walk 200m through the mud (no worries you get rubber boots) , but the view is absolutely worth it.
As beautiful as the pictures suggest! The tour is actually quite organized and on a 1st come 1st serve basis. 1 group consists of approx 10 people to abseil down 60m to the cave and take pictures. The ground is very muddy and rocky; may not be suitable for very young children.
Tickets need to be reserved in advance - can be done through Whatsapp. The experience was great and the tourguides were superb at taking pics at the main attraction. We got a lunch after and its possible to buy professional photos from a booth.
The group is so service oriented. It was a very muddy trek and we changed our shoes to boots just like everyone else. You go down a cliff but don't actually repel down. Then you trek through a cave where your boots are often stuck in the mud. Suggest bringing a head lamp and it's in the middle of central java and there's really no cool down in the cave. The staff carried our four year old when he kept getting stuck in the mud. Definitely don't bring clothes you want to keep clean! Afterwards we were served a basic lunch with aqua, ayam goreng and rice. Fun experience
Oh my God😍 it was a wonderful trip. I highly recommend this cave. So beautiful masterpiece of God. And the way through the cave to reach that hole was incredible.
Bring sandals. Headlamp is a good idea to keep your hands free. Cave is muddy and slippery. The Jomblang Cave Crew is great and helpful. I had an excellent time and was pleasantly surprised!
It's unreal, unworldly, amazing, beautiful, there are not enough adjectives to describe how fantastic this place is. It's a long and a half hour drive to the caves and the last couple are on bumpy dirt tracks, you then change you shoes for wellington (plastic) boots and walk down to the cave entrance, where you are harnessed up and sent 2 at a time down a 60 metre drop into the cave. Then it's's a tricky walk in the dark to what must be the most amazing sight I have ever seen in my life. It's a memory you will keep forever

I just discovered there's a thrift shop inside Taman Pintar, along with plenty of snack vendors. The area has lots of play spaces for kids, making it family-friendly. Parking for motorbikes can be tricky, so be prepared for parking fees. Keep an eye on your belongings for a worry-free visit!
A good place to take our kids to learn something by seeing and doing. Taman Pintar has a very fascinating display of different topics on science, electricity, biology, Civic, natural phenomenon, and many more. This place has a food court that caters the needs of the visitors to have a decent meal ranging from rice to burgers. It is advisable that you start the visit in the early hours of the day so that you can cover all the display rooms without rush.
Nice place to visit with kids during the holiday. Not just fun but also educational. Children can explore science, technology, and culture in an interactive way that keeps them curious. There are plenty of zones and activities, like science experiments and creative play, so they can learn while having a good time. The entrance ticket is very affordable, and the variety of exhibits makes it worth much more than the price. It’s also located in the city center, so it’s easy to reach and combine with other family activities in Jogja. Perfect for kids, but honestly enjoyable for adults too. We came on a weekday, so it wasn’t too crowded. Weekends are usually busier, especially with study tours.
A great place for learning through fun. Taman Pintar is an educational park designed to make science and technology interesting for children and families. With interactive exhibits, science experiments, and creative zones, it encourages curiosity and hands-on learning. The place is well-organized, with different sections for various age groups, from early childhood areas to science-themed zones for older kids. It’s not only informative but also entertaining—perfect for a family outing or a school field trip. Definitely recommended if you're visiting Yogyakarta with kids or just enjoy playful learning experiences.
Its old and some location are empty or during maintenance. But IMHO, still one of the best 15k you can spend in the middle of Yogyakarta with kids. Some of the outside facilities are free if you dont want to pay any.
Super good value for money! Yes, they need to fix and maintain some things. But overall still much to see and enjoy for a very low entry price. We visited as tourists and our kids really enjoyed this place, also as a different kind of activity after all the temples and nature. Nice outside area as well, just give it a try and you will love it! :)
Taman Pintar Yogyakarta is a fun and interactive educational tourist attraction, suitable for both children and adults. Its strategic location is easily accessible, and it's close to other tourist attractions in the city center. It offers complete facilities, from restrooms and a prayer room to a food court. The entrance fee is also affordable.
PLEASE UPGRADE AND REPAIR ALL TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT WITH LATEST TECHNOLOGY TO PROVIDE BETTER EXPERIENCE FOR KIDS The idea is combine recreational for kids and learning by example actually loved it so much about it Its cheap and attractive also has good service support but i think needs to upgrade the mock up learning tools and equipment, appereance is look old, some tools broken and shows that not well maintain .

Traditional marketplace operating since 1758, with merchants selling clothing, souvenirs & more.

It was really nice and memorable experience shopping at Beringharjo. There was many Batik in variatif motif and variatif model of clothes. The quality is good enough. The price is negotiable, so we have to smart to take the negotiation with Seller. It was really fun!
The traditional market in the center of Yogya city, seems to be the oldest market in Yogya. Many stalls are neatly lined up and the traders are friendly. Sells various types of clothing and batik cloth with various motifs. The clothes sold are mostly women's clothes. Prices are also not too high and can be negotiated. If you want there is a lot of culinary delights, some have to queue. Many women sell satay and many also buy it. Maintenance and cleanliness are moderate. Enjoy the photos.
Located in the heart of Malioboro street, this market is mostly dominated by batik shops. You can find a wide array of batik outfits, including dresses, pajamas, shorts, blazers, and skirts, with various prices. Some items can be bargained, and some have a fixed price. Most of the prices are reasonable. The building itself is well-maintained, and the entrance is really captivating with its old-style colonial architecture.
I was just here to wander around and try the snacks. I bought sate kere with konyor and chicken. The chicken didn't taste fresh, it was sour. The pecel was delicious, the chili sauce was a bit runny but the vegetables were fresh. The price affordable
It's one of the most biggest Traditional Market in Yogyakarta.. You can find it almost at the end of the Malioboro Street.. In here you'll find a lot of batik/ daster/ pijamas/ shirt/ curtains/ whatever traditional outfit, you'll find it in here.. Keywords you can look for in google or pinterest : Kebaya, Jarik/ skirt traditional, Daster/ pijama but in dress very very comfy you should try atleast once in your lifetime, Sandal Selop/ sandals for grooms, Keris / traditional weapon javanese for grooms outfit, Obi/ belt with batik motif, Kebaya Kutu Baru with so many texture Beludru means Velvet, brokat, etc.. Selendang/ scarf mostly batik.. Hope it helps & you guys enjoy vacation in Yogyakarta or Indonesia.. 🥰
... this market is a part of Malioboro that's a shame to miss. It's a center of economic activity for hundreds of years, and its existence holds philosophical significance. This market, which has been renovated many times, symbolizes a stage in human life that is still focused on meeting economic needs. Furthermore, Beringharjo is one of the pillars of the "Catur Tunggal" (consisting of the Kraton (Palace), the North Square (Alun-Alun Utara), the Kraton (Palace), and Beringharjo Market), symbolizing economic function...
The market is clean n we can buy a lot batik here, but we should have skill bargaining 🤭
Amazing place for afordable price batik and many other things you need, cultural place that infamous around local people

Colonial fortress-turned-museum with history exhibits on Indonesia's struggle for independence.
Slide 1 of 8
During my vacation, I visited a museum in Yogyakarta, a place that provided many lessons about Indonesian history. There were many objects from ancient times, and the place was very interesting. There, you could try making batik, take photos, and gain knowledge about Indonesian history. So I hope when you are on vacation you can visit the museum. 🌟💫
We visited this museum in a fort and were pleasantly surprised when given free entry as senior citizen. The exhibits contain many well made and detailed dioramas of historical events leading up to the independence of Indonesia. The galleries are air-conditioned and comfortable.
It was very enjoyable! The dioramas were great and detailed, well maintained, the buildings are clean, the stories are so clear. However there were no crews / security in sight that can assist visitors. But overall it was a great experience and the ticket was very affordable. 25k for weekend afternoon.
Awesome place to learn history of Indonesia. 15K ticketing for weekday. Toilets and musholla are clean. When I visited and had my dzuhur prayer, mukenas were clean as well. Interactive media to explain historical events and means used were exceptional. Dioramas etc are well maintained. If it were me, I'd come to visit again another time. I had a good time and experience here.
I’ve come to Jogja without any research as I was just meeting my friend to celebrate both our birthdays and grateful to have had spent my first afternoon here. I learned so much of Jogja and Indonesia from this museum. It’s cool and great to be able to know the place that has been my home better. This place was said to be a former colonial fortress, a center of govt and defense for the Dutch. I never even knew that Jogja was occupied by the Dutch before.
Nicely decorated museum with dioramas depicting all past events happened in the district of Yogyakarta. Worth a visit. If you wish for a cheaper entrance ticket then go earlier as the prices will be higher the later into the night. The night light show is spectacular projecting the brief history of Indonesia as a whole.
We should use debit or cashless for buy the ticket, good and complete facility, organized place, smell really good everywhere even though in the toilet, they have playground if you bring toddler, they have prayer room that have air conditioner, recomendation place for educational purpose, must visit this place especially for students, so far anything in here was so good
Great museum, there's so many historical attraction with description so you can learn history a lot, the fort itself is at mild condition which is good, the main square is good to take a breather whilst the kid running around.the price is doable and there's a shop inside to get some drinks

A very well maintained zoo with a great variety of animals. Kids friendly and lots of free photo shooting place with animal, only need to pay voluntary donation, zoo keepers are very friendly and accommodating. Plenty of resting places and restaurant with reasonably priced food, lots of trees too making it not too hot walking inside the zoo. There is frequent free shuttle trains around if you don’t feel like walking a lot. We spent more than 4 hours there. The bird show was interesting too. We were the only foreigners there, definitely worth visiting especially if you have kids. Kid will love it compared to Borobudur.
Spend half a day in this place and it was quite fun with other activities beside looking at the animals, such as riding speed boat. I walked around "zona cakar" their newest building and was impressed by the closeness we could get to the hyenas though we didn't get to see the other animals other than hyenas. The food and drink and souvenirs sold there at very affordable and fair price. They have lots of various choices in the cafeteria and souvenir shops. I tried their gelato and it was so good! I didn't expect delicious gelato sold at such place. I loved peanut butter and pistachio the most 😋 I hope they consider to sell their gelato at the parking lot so we can buy their gelato without having to purchase entry ticket to the zoo 🤣 The place was clean and no garbage scattered around the zoo. Also, they now have an escalator at the east gate.
One of the better Zoo in Indonesia, although it is much smaller than other Zoos. When i am there it looks like the Zoo in the process of renovation, so there is area with modern looks and some areas look quite old(unrenovated). But i will say i am like and impressed by the new design and outlook, will look forward going back to this place after full renovation.
The place is huge and really spacious. Honestly, I think it's one of the best zoos in Indonesia. They even have transportation inside for those who might have trouble walking around. I also love that they provide special strollers for families with little kids.
Here’s a polished English review you can post on Google 👇 --- 🌿 5 Stars – The Best Mini Zoo Experience in Indonesia! 🌿 Kebun Binarang is truly amazing! The entrance is free, and visitors can enjoy a free shuttle ride and boat trip, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. The terrariums and animal enclosures are beautifully arranged and very clean, showing great care and attention to detail. This place is well-managed, family-friendly, and perfect for nature and animal lovers. Without a doubt, it’s one of the best mini zoos in Indonesia — highly recommended for everyone to visit! 🐢🐍🦜 ---
On January 10, 2025, I went to Gembira Loka in Yogyakarta. The area is spacious and filled with fun activities, making it ideal for family trips. I found the place really engaging, especially for kids. It's not only entertaining but also a nice way to learn about animals. I highly recommend it for those traveling with family, friends, or even a patner.
Gembira Loka Zoo is a zoo located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, on Jalan Kebun Raya. I had a great time visiting the zoo because it was fun, clean, educational and also interactive. There were many animals like elephants, tigers, crocodiles, and birds, and I especially feel happy because i can take a picture with snake, birds and many other animals. The staff were friendly, the environment was green and shady, and there were places to eat and rest. And they have a free transportation if you too tired to walk. I would recommend this zoo to families, students, and anyone who loves animals and nature.
Best Zoo I have visited, plenty of restaurants in the zoo and also lot of animals to watch, cleanliness is top notch and the staff are very friendly also a good place for picnic and to spend time with family and friends

Malioboro Street - Vibrant and Unforgettable Experience Malioboro Street is truly the heart of Yogyakarta and a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to the city. The street is always lively, filled with locals and tourists exploring the vibrant shops, street vendors, and cultural spots. You can find almost everything here, from traditional batik clothing and souvenirs to delicious local foods like gudeg and bakpia. Walking along Malioboro Street, you can feel the rich culture and history of Yogyakarta. The atmosphere is energetic, especially during the evening when street performers and musicians make the area even more colorful. The nearby Malioboro Mall offers a modern shopping experience, but the true charm of Malioboro lies in its bustling streets and markets. However, it can get quite crowded, especially during weekends and holidays. But that’s also part of the excitement. It’s a great place to experience the local culture, shop for unique souvenirs, or simply enjoy a relaxing evening walk. Overall, Malioboro Street is a lively and memorable destination that perfectly captures the essence of Yogyakarta. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore the city’s culture and vibrant street life!
A small mall with odd entrance from the back. They dont have direct access to malioboro street. The mall is also very quiet and not a lot of tenant. It is good for a parking spot if you visit malioboro street. They have food court on the top floor. Nothing special on this place.
Cool and busy mall with a solid selection of stores. I came for the Converse shop, but ended up scoring some great deals thanks to all the sales. Definitely hit up Yo Ramen... tasty and satisfying!
Large, modern, and a wide variety of stores. Some lovely places to eat and drinks, some with city views - beautiful. Shop owners very friendly and we got very good service in several shops. A really impressive and "world class" shopping mall. Well done Yogyakarta!
😊I prefer the atmosphere of the night than during the day at Malioboro😁 😊At night you can really enjoy the vibes of Evening Jogjakarta🌟 😊There are angklung performance🎵🎶 Live music at 0 kilometer of Jogja🥁 😊You also be able to rent autoped scooter to wander around☺
Basically? Its a mall pretty much. Like in other places as well. Shopping, eateries, activity centres for kids, and what not. We popped by for resting our feet after the long walk from Harpers Hotel and after checking out the street shopping at Malioboro Street. Thirst quenching as well at food court.
Visited this place just for the parking spot actually. Mall is kinda small and empty
