⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Visited Jog Falls — one of the most stunning natural wonders in Karnataka! The view of the waterfalls cascading down from such a great height is absolutely mesmerizing, especially when there’s good water flow. The mist, the sound of the falls, and the surrounding greenery make it a truly refreshing experience. There are multiple viewpoints to enjoy the beauty from different angles, and the area is well-maintained with decent parking and basic facilities. Best time to visit is right after the monsoon when the falls are at their full glory. A must-visit destination for nature lovers and photographers! 🌿💦
One of the most beautiful spots I’ve seen in India. The place is nice , calm, cool and soothing. Excellent place to click photographs. Sufficient parking space is available. Tickets are around Rs. 20 per person. Looks like they are planning many new attractions here, as there’s plenty of construction going on. Best time to visit would be when they open the nearby dam, and the waterfall is in full flow.
I visited during dasara holidays and it was not very crowded, which made the experience peaceful and enjoyable. The falls looked beautiful and the weather was pleasant. There are some construction works going on near the view points and entrance, but it didn't affect the overall experience much. A great place to enjoy nature and relax.
Jog Falls is a stunning destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts visiting Karnataka. As one of India’s tallest waterfalls, it plunges a remarkable 253 meters, especially dramatic during the monsoon season. Jog Falls, Karnataka-Jog Falls is the second-highest plunge waterfall in India, located on the Sharavathi River in the Shimoga district of Karnataka. The monsoon season (June to September) offers the most dramatic views, with the falls being at their full force. Enjoy the view from designated viewpoints Visit the Mahatma Gandhi Hydro Electric plant Explore the surrounding dense, evergreen forests Go during the monsoon season to see rainbows in the mist. A sightseeing tour offers visitors the chance to experience the majestic waterfall framed by lush green landscapes. Beyond being a peaceful escape, it's an ideal location for nature walks and photography. The tour package for Jog Falls also includes nearby viewpoints, perfect for a weekend getaway or a week-long vacation from cities like Bangalore. For photography enthusiasts, capturing the falls from various angles is a must, as the views provide stunning landscape shots at every turn. The area around Jog Falls can be slippery, so it is advisable to wear comfortable and sturdy footwear. It is also important to carry rain gear, as it can rain unexpectedly in the area. Jog Falls is surrounded by lush green forests and beautiful landscapes. If you have time, you must explore the surrounding areas and take in the natural beauty of the region. The main viewpoint is located on the opposite side of the waterfall and offers a panoramic view of the falls.
The sheer volume of water cascading down the rocks is breathtaking and the multiple segmented streams create an awe-inspiring view, especially during peak monsoon. The surrounding lush greenery adds to the serenity and beauty of the location. It's an unforgettable experience and a must-visit for nature lovers and photographers. Definitely a highlight of any trip to Karnataka.
Entry fees is 20 rupees. The experience is of a lifetime. We went during Monsoon on July’25. We were thrilled to see the sceneric beauty. It feels like milk is gushing down from the waterfalls more than water. India’s biggest waterfall is absolutely an eye soother. The ghat roads leading to jog falls, the Shimoga district, the road exiting Shimoga and going towards kumta all are satisfying. ❤️🧿❤️
There is lot of construction work happening around so plan accordingly to visit Be careful about the touts around would cheat you by saying many things and take money from you. Just visit inside by paying ticket and watch that’s the best way. Road is also not good due to work happening around Right now water is there so you can watch the falls but after few days this will also stop as rain season has ended for the year To watch water in full best time to visit is July and August
JOG FALLS , Located at TALAGUPPA ,SHIMOGA DIST KARNATAKA. One of the world famous waterfall of INDIA, Awesome view of waterfall surrounded with natural greenery, you can only view this waterfall from a distance not allowed to go near it , very well maintained view points with absolute safety of the visitors taken care by the authorities. Absolutely marvelous natural beauty of the waterfall.

I recently stayed here and had a wonderful experience. The wooden cottages were spacious, clean, and well-maintained, offering a comfortable and relaxing environment. The service was equally impressive — the staff was warm, attentive, and always ready to assist, which made the stay even more enjoyable. One of the highlights of the location is its proximity to an elephant training camp and a nearby elephant bathing area. It was truly a unique and memorable experience to watch the elephants up close and even participate in their bath session. Overall, it’s a perfect place to unwind while enjoying a bit of nature and local charm. Highly recommended for families and nature lovers!
We had a fantastic experience at Jungle Lodge Sakrebyle Elephant Camp! The staff were very accommodating and helpful. We requested them to arrange a cake for our daughter's birthday, and they kindly brought one, making the day even more special. The elephant interaction was wonderful - we got to bathe and spend time with these majestic creatures. The natural surroundings and rain added to the charm. The staff's kindness and efforts to make our stay memorable were truly appreciated. Overall, a great experience! 🐘🎂 5/5 stars
We were 2 families with 4 kids. Calling on prior day of travel to check on our visit and food preference gave confidence on our reservation, very nice gesture. Everyone at the resort from the pick up/drop vehicle, guide explaining all details on itinerary, dining staff patience, house keeping staff quick service, less spicy food but with good quality, decent nature walk trek, very good boating, everything was good. Premises kept clean, elephant interaction was very nice especially for kids. Special part was elephants stopping near resort was too good. Team was well prepared to be patient and provide great service, memorable vacation.
Had a wonderful time at Sakrebyle Elephant Camp! From the moment we arrived, everything felt so peaceful and well taken care of. The stay was comfortable, the food was delicious, and the staff ( Venkatesh & Santhosh along with two others) were genuinely warm and helpful. The highlight, of course, was spending time with the elephants — watching them, interacting, and learning about them up close was such a beautiful experience. It’s one of those places that leaves you with a calm mind and a happy heart. Would definitely love to visit again! 🐘
Amazing authentic experience. First time I saw so many elephants and somewhat authentic and rustic experience. They also allow elephants to roam freely after 1pm in the jungle. They also feed elephants at 12, though we’re not allowed to feed them. Kids will love it.
Had a good stay here at the Sakrebylu JLR. Since it's close to a forest, rooms had worms, millipedes and frogs - but this is unavoidable. The food was quite tasty and we had a very good experience bathing the elephants here! Try reaching this place before 1245 pm - at about 1 pm the elephants will return from the river to go to their resting place, and they pass through the JLR. So you can view them at close range. Also, bathing the elephants is only visa limited booked slots, that too mostly for people booking their stay at the JLR. Elephant bathing activity happens only from 9 to 10 am. Go with the JLR person, talk to them and maybe give them a few rupees and they will ensure you get a good slot and bathing experience.
We had a truly wonderful stay at Sakrebyle Elephant Camp Jungle Lodges & Resorts. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant and memorable. The rooms were spotless, well-maintained, and offered a very comfortable stay, while the food was absolutely amazing – fresh, tasty, and served with warmth. A special mention and kudos to the brilliant team of naturalists – Mr. Suresh and Mr. Abhi. They made our treks unforgettable by sharing their vast knowledge of the forest, carefully explaining about the plants, animals, and their lifestyles. They even showed us different pug marks and footprints of leopards, deer, and elephants, and explained how mahouts track elephants using footprints and chain marks – truly fascinating! The highlight was definitely the interaction with the elephants at the camp. Watching them up close and even helping in bathing them was a magical, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Overall, this place offered not just a pleasant stay but an enriching journey into nature, with warm hospitality, great food, clean rooms, and unforgettable experiences. Highly recommended for anyone looking to connect with nature in the most authentic way.
The name of the place is highly misleading. It doesn't have any link with the Elephant Camp, just that it is located opposite to the camp. If the purpose is only to visit the elephant camp, it would be better to stay in any nearby hotel (Shimogga is 15 minutes drive) and arrive at the camp directly at 9AM. Once we are at the camp, it dosn't matter whether you stay at this resort or not. Room was old but clean, we stayed in wooden cottage. Food options were limited but everything they served was tasty. Children play area is begging to be renovated. No other amenities to keep kids enganged. Once we arrived, lunch was ready and after that they took us to boat ride. But, this was paid and they skipped nature walk for this and mentioned that the morning trek would be same as nature walk. But the boat ride was a big dissapointment, it is just a small 10 to 15 minutes ride on the boat. Coffee, snacks were served along with a documentary show. The show about Bhadra Santuary was played on a small TV with very low volume which doesn't serve any purpose at all. Soup was served with campfire followed by dinner. While walking back from dinner to the room, a venomous pit head viper was spotted and promptly removed by the staff, luckily before anyone stepped on it. The lighting in the property is not adequate. Early morning, the trekking was cancelled a wild elephant was spotted. They could have taken for a walk or bird watching, but they didn't oblige. Next activity was elephant interaction. They dropped us in the camp. Entrance was free but, ticket was to be bought for elephant bathing! They could have included that as well. We had to check out after the elephant interaction. Overall, the rate they charged included only a night of accomodation and food, which is grossly overpriced.

🌿 Shimoga Tiger-Lion Safari – Full Gen Z Review Okay fam, let’s talk about the Shimoga Tiger-Lion Safari (Tyavarekoppa Safari) – honestly, it was a vibe. If you’re someone who loves nature but also wants that lil’ adrenaline rush of seeing wild animals up close, this spot is low-key perfect. 🐅 Safari Experience The main attraction? Definitely the tigers and lions. The safari bus (yes, it’s caged, so chill 😂) takes you through the park, and the moment a tiger or lion casually strolls near the bus – bruhhh, chills. It feels surreal to see them in a semi-natural habitat instead of behind tiny zoo bars. There’s also leopards, sloth bears, deer, and a bunch of birds. The bird section is actually super calming – like nature therapy after the big-cat drama. ⏰ Best Time to Visit Pull up in the morning (10 AM – 12 PM or 3PM to 5PM) if you actually wanna see animals moving around instead of them napping in the shade like lazy roommates. November to February = peak season. Cooler weather, better pics, and more active animals. Summer afternoons? Hard pass. Both you and the animals will just be melting. 🛠️ Facilities & Chill Points Tickets are mad affordable. Entry fee is like a couple of snacks’ worth, and the safari ride doesn’t break your wallet either. Perfect for college students or squad hangouts. There’s a food corner for tea, snacks, and basics – don’t expect fancy café vibes, but it gets the job done. Parking is easy, so no stressing about where to leave your car/bike. If you’re with fam, kids are gonna love it – they even have a small play area. Surrounded by greenery, so your lungs get a break from city pollution. 📸 Content Creator POV If you’re into photography or just wanna flex on the ‘Gram, this place is solid. The animals look majestic, the greenery gives forest-core aesthetics, and if you catch golden hour, your reels will be 🔥. Just remember: charge your phone/camera fully, because wild animals don’t wait for you to find your charger. 💡 Pro Tips for the Safari Hit it early morning = more animal action. Rock comfy outfits & sneakers – you’ll walk around a bit. Carry water, because hydration >>> everything. If you’re going in summer, sunscreen is your bestie. 🎯 Final Take The Shimoga Tiger-Lion Safari is not like some wild African savannah, but for Karnataka, it’s a solid 9/10 experience. Affordable, chill, and packed with wild energy. Whether you’re with friends, family, or even solo, it’s a refreshing break from city life. If you’re in or near Shimoga, don’t even think twice – just go. You’ll leave with cool memories, dope pics, and maybe a new favorite spot to recommend.
Good initiative by government all types of animals are there for sighting.. I have taken bus safari with combo per person 250rs including zoo. But not worth only we can see 1 tiger and 1 lion in cage balance 1 tiger and 1 lion sleeping outside mid of the forest.. rest we can sightsee in safari are deer and kadave… In zoo all types of animals there kids will enjoy the zoo sight.
Visited Shimoga Zoo and Safari recently, and honestly, it felt more like just a zoo than an actual safari. The "safari" experience was underwhelming — the animals, including the tigers, were in enclosures just like in the zoo, so it didn’t feel like a true safari at all. There was only one lion, and overall, the zoo section wasn’t very impressive either. There's definitely a lot of room for improvement in terms of animal habitats, maintenance, and visitor experience. That said, the highlight was getting to see some big cats up close — lions, tigers, leopards, and even a black panther, which was exciting. But beyond that, it didn’t quite meet expectations.
The forest space is huge but has only a lion and a couple of tigers. The guide informed that they are bringing in 4 more tigers from bengal in the month of October. We took a private jeep and yet the tour was rushed by the guide stating that it was peak season and hence reducing a star. There were plenty of deer families and the bisons were magnificent.
Not at all worth for the money we pay for both safari and zoo. No much animals / reptiles / birds. No much maintenance too with respect to animals. Eatables are available only at the exit of zoo. Park will be occupied only by adults without even caring for small children. Cycle is available to roam inside the zoo at Rs.50. Parking fee must be paid at the entrance itself
Although it has almost all type of animals , count of the same are limited . It’s really good place for kids to learn and enjoy. I recommend parents to get ther kids to visit . So not compare it with Bangalore or Mysore. This zoo is well maintained. I don’t recommend safari here but if you have time and first time visiting then it’s worth.
A very poorly managed Zoo and Safari near Shimoga. Only One lion and two tigers were there in the Safari Enclave, all of them in cages and we need to travel in fully secured buses to watch caged predators.... What is the logic behind this? Why it is called a Safari? Rs. 250 is the ticket cost per person for Zoo and Safari, totally worthless for the Safari Part. Moreover, despite having so many buses, the drivers used to wait till all the 20 seats got occupied and we made to wait for nearly 20 minutes inside the bus for other people to come.... Disgusting indeed.....!
Zoo still under upgradation Quite a good place Not comparable to Mysore and Hyderabad Zoo's Safari was very nice ..... especially the details explanation form the safar jeep staff

I did the Kodachadri trek on June 22, 2025, in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka. Starting from my homestay, I covered around 14 km in total, doing only the one-way trek on foot. The return was via a jeep ride that cost ₹450 per person. The trek took about 6 hours to complete and reached an elevation of 1,343 meters. It was a moderately challenging route that pushed me both physically and mentally. One of the highlights was crossing a waterfall during the trek. The trail was incredibly scenic, surrounded by dense greenery and the peaceful sounds of nature. I went with a group of friends, and the shared effort and laughs made the experience more enjoyable, even when it got tough. Reaching the top felt amazing. The weather that day was just right for a monsoon trek—light rain and fog added a magical, calming vibe to the whole atmosphere. Standing at the summit after the climb was truly rewarding. However, the trekking group we joined, Native Trekking, was a big letdown. Their coordination was very poor—they were late at every stage, and at the trek checkpoint, we were made to stand in line for over two hours just to register. On the way back, some fellow trekkers played loud music and behaved rudely, and the organizers didn’t respond at all to complaints—possibly because they were part of the same local group. Kodachadri is undoubtedly a beautiful place, and I would definitely recommend the trek itself—but not with Native Trekking. Their lack of professionalism ruined part of the experience. I had done the Netravathi trek earlier, and compared to that, Kodachadri was a mix of breathtaking nature and poor management.
I've visited this stunning hill station twice - once in 2018 during the rainy season and again in 2019 during the summer. Both times were breathtakingly beautiful in their own ways. The trek to the top is moderately challenging, but the scenic views are simply divine. I loved the misty greens and the beauty of nature all around. It's really heaven! Plus, there's an option to reach the top by jeep too, so you can choose your adventure. Trekking is a great way to experience the natural beauty up close, with mist-covered hills and lush greenery all the way. And the moment you reach the top, it's like a divine feeling washes over you - your mind becomes calm, and you feel serene peace. The panoramic views from the summit are pure magic, with sunrises and sunsets that'll leave you speechless. Kodachadri is a must-visit destination for any nature lover or trekking enthusiast.
Kodachadri trek is an amazing experience filled with lush greenery all around. The trails are quite steep, making it a bit challenging, especially during the rainy season when the path gets slippery and fog covers the view. But the misty atmosphere makes it feel magical
Kodachadri, located in the heart of the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary in the Shimoga district of Karnataka, is more than just a mountain peak—it's an adventure, a spiritual retreat, and a paradise for nature photographers. Standing tall at 1,343 meters (4,406 ft), this peak truly lives up to its name, which translates from Sanskrit as "Jasmine of the Hills." The main allure of Kodachadri is the journey to the summit. Visitors have two primary modes of transport: the adventurous trek or the thrilling jeep safari. Once at the peak, the views are breathtaking. The sunset views here are truly magnificent, painting the sky in fiery gold and orange hues. Kodachadri is deeply linked to mythology and history, adding a layer of spiritual significance to the visit. Sarvajna Peetha is a small, ancient stone structure believed to be the spot where the great philosopher and saint Adi Shankaracharya meditated. Whether you're a nature lover, a trekking enthusiast, or a spiritual seeker, Kodachadri offers a deeply satisfying experience.
One of the best trekking route in Karnataka. Kodachadri trek in western ghats passes through the deep forest trails. Trek can be done is 2 routes one is from the Kattinahole via the Hidlumane waterfalls and second is from Valur route. The most popular, adventurous and beautiful trek route is being Hidlumane waterfalls starting from Kattinahole. Need to register online for the trekking. If you are looking for Jeep to reach the peak of Kodachadri, no online bookings required. A 12KMS trail passes through deep forest trials along with Hidlumane waterfalls. Trek is going to easy to moderate trek with slight steep trek during the mid points.
Kodachadri, with its lush forests, hidden waterfalls, and misty peaks, offers breathtaking views and fresh air far away from air and noise pollution. With no mobile networks to distract you, it’s a perfect escape for trekking enthusiasts and nature lovers. The best time to visit is during the monsoon, when the landscape comes alive in its full glory.
Awesome 💫 Must visit once in your lifetime. Off road jeep ride is best part ⚡Never miss this place.
Kodachadri, nestled in Karnataka's Western Ghats, is a renowned destination celebrated for its lush landscapes, spiritual significance, and adventurous trekking routes. Standing at an elevation of 1,343 meters, it is the highest peak in the Shivamogga district and has been designated a natural heritage site by the Karnataka Government. 🌄 Highlights Trekking Experience: The trek to Kodachadri is both challenging and rewarding, offering routes through dense tropical forests, meadows, and waterfalls. The journey culminates at the Sarvajna Peetha, a small temple where Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have meditated, providing panoramic views of the Western Ghats. Off-Road Jeep Ride: For those less inclined to trek, a jeep ride is available, navigating through rugged terrains to a point near the peak. While the ride is thrilling, it can be quite bumpy and is not recommended for individuals with back issues. Spiritual Significance: Beyond its natural beauty, Kodachadri holds religious importance, forming a backdrop to the Mookambika Temple in Kollur. The Sarvajna Peetha at the summit is a revered site for devotees. ⚠️ Things to Consider Physical Demands: The trek can be strenuous, especially during monsoon seasons when paths become slippery. It's advisable for individuals with health concerns to assess their capabilities before attempting the trek. Limited Facilities: Accommodations at the peak are basic, with limited amenities. Travelers should be prepared for minimal facilities and carry necessary supplies. Environmental Concerns: Visitors have noted instances of littering at the summit. It's essential to maintain the sanctity and cleanliness of the environment by disposing of waste responsibly.

Kundadri Hill is a hidden gem for nature lovers and spiritual seekers alike. Nestled in the Western Ghats, this tranquil peak offers breathtaking views of the surrounding green landscapes, rolling hills, and mist-covered valleys. The journey to the top is an adventure in itself, with winding roads leading to a view that is well worth the climb. At the summit, the ancient Jain temple adds a unique charm to Kundadri, giving the place a peaceful, spiritual vibe. Dedicated to the Jain Tirthankara Parshwanatha, the temple is surrounded by small ponds that reflect the clouds and sky, adding to the serene atmosphere. For anyone traveling in Shimoga or the Western Ghats, Kundadri is a must-visit destination for its beauty, tranquility, and the sense of connection it offers to both nature and spirituality.
Best during monsoon and less effort to reach peak which is hardly finds 20 to 30 stairs but 6-7 kms road travel is very narrow and steepy. Good place to sit and chill.
Do not visit during the monsoon, since you won't be able to see the breathtaking views that everyone is talking about. Once in a while the fog clears up and you can appreciate the view. The drive/ride up the hill is tortuous and difficult. Would not recommend unless you have a bike or a decently powerful scooter. Stay safe!
This place route is not so easy, road condition is totally worse! If suddenly opposite vehicle comes, it becomes difficult to manage and pass from there! Better park your vehicles near the Main road temple Arch and take a jeep ride or better enquire with nearby localites about the condition before going to tophill During our visit it was difficult due to worse road condition
This is one of the oldest Jain temples, dating back to the 17th century, located atop a hill at an elevation of over 800 meters. The site offers a mesmerizing viewpoint and is truly a must-visit destination. Please note that the approach roads include several narrow curves—drive carefully.
Beautiful sights of the valley below and rocks around. The drive up to the hills was difficult with very rough dirt roads. But worth the view.
It's a Jain temple with breathtaking view at the hilltop of the western ghats during the monsoon season. The road though is in very poor condition. People with good driving experience can take this route. The gate to this place closes down at 5pm so make sure you reach there on time.
Awesome and beautiful place for weekend fun. It is a jain place of worship so pls maintain sanctity and respect the nature. Enjoy the view and do not pollute the environment. Can enjoy the fresh air and greenery. Reach there by 6 am and not later to enjoy sunrise and also the view.

The dam is set against a backdrop of lush greenery and rolling hills, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. The tranquil waters of the dam reflect the surrounding landscape, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
Gajanur Dam, about 12 km from Shimoga, is a beautiful scenic spot built across the Tunga River. Known for its lush landscapes, peaceful water views and village charm, it’s a perfect escape into nature. Currently, the dam remains closed to visitors, but the surroundings still make it worth a visit.
Good for short trip. Administration may collect little entry fee to maintain cleanliness and should declare it as plastic free zone.
This is one of the most beautiful dam I have ever seen Built On River Tunga. Bridge length : 770 meter. Spillway length : 334 meter. Maximum capacity :533.24 meter Number of crest gates : 22. Located 12 kilometers from Shimoga, popularly known as ‘The gateway of Malnad’, is a small village- Gajanur. This small town is enthroned with River Tunga’s presence and is home of many beautiful birds. Gajanur Dam is built across the River Tunga and is one of the scenic picnic spots for the tourists. Surrounded by lush green fields, plantations and forest, dam is a feast to the eyes.
You don't need to visit this place at 300-500m there is a camping site near sakreybelle elephant camp. Go there for boating you will get to see the dam
I visited the Gajanur Dam on the way from agumbae to shivamoga route. the gajanur dam was located on 12km from shivamoga. The Tunga River flows through the village. Gajanur is well known for the dam built across the river. I heard about 1 km from Gajanur there is place called "Sakkarebaylu" which is an elephant training camp run by the government of India. The place was a good to know about the dam and construction we don't get these kind of chances in other dams to check up-close.
This is really a beautiful place to visit in Shimoga which is just 10km far from the city. In the evening you can enjoy the place to the core. Crossing the stream through fallen off tree is more enjoyable! You can click some good pictures tooo

The dam is located amidst the Western Ghats, surrounded by lush green forests. • Nearby attractions: • Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary – famous for tigers, elephants, leopards, and birdwatching. • Hebbe Falls and Kemmangundi Hill Station – popular scenic spots close to the dam. • Activities: boating, photography, and nature walks.
During my tenure as an MBA student at Kuvempu University, I made several trips to Bhadra Dam, which is only a short distance away. The gates are opened during the monsoon, which is the ideal time to visit because of the beautiful view of the tumbling water and verdant surroundings. An ideal location for a short vacation or to take in the splendor of nature!
The main water body for middle karnataka. The atmosphere is greenary. We visited the dam backwaters and sound from dam was very good to hear. The view from bridge was good. During July they not allow us to go near dam.
The combination of robust engineering, scenic landscapes, and rich biodiversity makes Bhadra Dam a good weekend destination for nature and waterfall lovers. Best time to visit at the end of July as they release the water into river.
Nice place to visit as we would get a very nice view of the dam. Though the entry was blocked for some reason and were disappointed to hear about it.
No public entry to dam space but you can take special permission from dam authorities and visit but its tough. But you can go to boat safari nearthe river tern lodge which is operated by forest department and you can get good view of dam. And you take room in River tern loge and enjoy the forest and dam atmosphere which quiet costly. Better always book online and go it limited even they have foest jeep safari also. There is no good hotels nearby dam or stay options. Neast town is shimoga bhadravati but i always recomed shimoga very beautiful city with lot of resonable food and stay optios. It 27 km away from dam.
Bhadra dam is a very big dam situated at Shimoga, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji enlighten the Sudarshan kriya at Shimoga Dam.
If you have to enter in to the Badra dam campus you have to get the approval from their office. Which is 2 km away from dam. They will get bribe of about Rs.300 for car and they send only till their gate which means you cannot see the Dam not even near to that. There is one view point which you can just see huge water reserved. That place is also not so clean. My experience is bad. If you are going through that way and if you’re luck is good then you see water flowing down from road that is far better than getting permission and not to see anything.

Beautiful temple just 5kms from Sagara town. This temple is by default included in tourists route. The idol in garbhagriha is not the original idol. Original idol of 13ft standing Aghoreshwara was destroyed by Islamic rulers. A linga was later installed. Admire the beauty of magnificient Nandi at the entrance 👌🏻 Also notice beautiful stone art on outer walk.
Aghoreshwara Temple in Ikkeri is a stunning example of ancient South Indian architecture, blending Hoysala and Vijayanagara styles beautifully. The temple’s intricate stone carvings, grand Nandi statue, and peaceful surroundings create a deeply spiritual atmosphere. Maintained by the ASI, it remains clean and well-preserved, offering visitors a serene and authentic experience. There’s no entry fee, and the site is less crowded, making it perfect for calm exploration. Only drawback — the stone floor can get hot and DSLR photography is restricted. A must-visit heritage gem near Sagara.
There's no entry ticket to this place, finding out address is very easy on Google maps, but the best part is how beautiful is this place!? We went during monsoon and it was just too pretty to describe. A must visit if you're visiting jog Falls
The temple of agoreshwara in ikkeri an archaeological maintained structure is an awesome old temple with fine architecture . The main temple structure has siva on a very high pedestal unlike other siva temples. The nandi made of granite sits majestically across. One of the nice places to visit while in shimoga. No other facilities like toilet , drinking water are available.
Beautiful Ancient Temple With Positive Vibe. Nandi is huge and beautiful. Peaceful Location. Very powerful Shiva Temple. Strongly suggesting to visit Temple.
The temple is built with a mix of hoysala and Vijayanagara style of architecture. As you enter the gates, you first are welcomed by a giant Nandi. Then you enter the temple with the main diety, lord shiva. The temple is not crowded and has parking space at the entrance. There's no entry fee.
AGHORESHVARA TEMPLE, IKKERI Ikkeri grew into a powerful independent kingdom with capital at Keladi under the early Vijayanagara chiefs. During the reign of Chaudappa Nayaka, (A.D. 1499-1544), the capital was shifted from Keladi to Ikkeri. The north-south orientated aghoresvara temple, built in granite, during the time of the Nayaka's of Keladi, is a classic example of the nayaka style of architecture. Stylistically it is datable to sixteenth century AD. On plan it has a Garbhagriha, an Ardhamandapa and a large Mukhamandapa with a separate pavilion for Nandi. Interiorly the floor in front of the shrine has effigies of three Keladi chiefs doing obeisance. The Garbhagriha contains a gignatic pedestal sculptured with 32-seated female figures. The temple has a metal image of thirty-two handed Aghoresvara. In the Ardhamantapa is a small translucent Nandi carved out of white spar. Flanking the Ardhamantapa doorway, on either side are two niches, containing sculptures of ganesa and Kartikeya to right and Mahishamardini and Bhairava to left. The front Mukhamandapa is supported by carved pillars. Exteriorly the sanctum has a huge Sikhara in the Dravida order. The walls of the sanctum have double pilaster turrets. The walls of the Mukhamandapa are pierced with three omate doorways approached by balustraded steps. The northern main entrance is flanked by caparisoned elephants. The available space of the walls is provided with nearly twenty perforated windows with omamental arches interspersed with figure sculptures. The Nandimandapa has a huge couchantibull with a yali-balustraded steps at south. The pavilion has lion-based pillars. Towards the west is parvati shrine built on similar lines to the main temple with lesser dimensions and fewer sculptures.

A perfect place where you can learn about snakes. The place is serene, silent, provides information about snakes. In the morning you can see Draco Lizards flying from one tree to another. Although you need to request them for stay. Rithan, Operations Manager at ARRS, has been nothing but excellent. Everything is planned other than the field work and the food is yum. Visit if you like filed work and snakes.
First of all, the location on GMap is slightly wrong and the approach road that GMap shows is totally wrong. We wandered for some half an hour, asked locals and somehow found the "real" route. Here it is 1. Take the mud road that Gmap shows (with signboard of Malnad Homestay at the start). 2. Do not stop at the place Gmap shows. Continue for about 0.8km (from the start of mud road). 3. You will see a signboard saying "No entry". Take right and go another 0.8km. You will reach ARRS. The whole 1.6km road is poor, muddy and bumpy. Last half km goes through dense forest. Most imp note: you won't see any animals/ fauna at ARRS. There are just photos of King cobra, leopard and other species. We did not meet anyone who could explain what they do. This is not to discredit their work. But just to clarify that as a tourist you won't find much useful or interesting. IMO, it's not worth the hassle to reach there. A lot of other reviews seem to be for "Agumbe" village or " Agumbe rainforest" in general and not for "Agumbe Rainforest Research Station" (ARRS, i.e. this particular place).
First of all the location is incorrect. To reach this place you need to go more inside to the dense forest. Secondly there is nothing in this place as it’s not functional now. Don’t spend your time visiting here. 1.5 kms drive inside that forest was interesting because we went there during heavy rainfall. But the so called small road is muddy on cloggy.
Agumbe rain forest is a nice place to visit from December to January 3rd week. after that summer starts and temperature increases. Near to agumbe some home stays are also available but they are costly. They will negotiate if you can convince. :) But its very good for one day trip from Manipal or Mangalore area.
Was at ARRS for a workshop on frogs for 3 days. The workshop itself was very informative & enjoyable. Stay & food were comfortable too. Visit ARRS to know more about snakes, frogs and other wildlife. If staying overnight, one has to inform them earlier.
Amazing research on king cobra being done here by a small dedicated team. Next to Someshwara reserve. Beautiful location.
An experience to be savoured. An experience that leaves you dumbfounded. An experience you want to go back to over and over again. I have been there several times. And each visit helps me discover something new, something extraordinary. Such is Agumbe’s charm. I have been to lot of places. Everything was a experience and learning. But whenever I have been to agumbe the here is whole different. I highly recommend you guys to visit this place during monsoon and winter. Especially if you are planning for a bike ride means it'll be a heaven on earth. While coming to agumbe please make sure you are not littering the place and not disturbing the wildlife habitats. Have a happy and safe journey. I wish you happy, safe and comfortable vacation.
Visited ARRS along with a few kids from a Children's Camp organised by Hingaara.. The staff are kind and knowledgeable... :) Informative :)

The Shivappa Nayaka Palace is located on the banks of the Tunga river, off the busy lanes of Shivamogga. This monument to the glory of the Keladi Nayakas is built almost entirely of rosewood. Intricately carved wooden pillars and motifs on the walls take the pride of place inside the palace. The museum inside the palace houses sculptures and antiquities from the Keladi period along with the Chalukya and Hoysala eras.
It's a beautiful old palace constructed mostly with wood. Along with palace, government also maintaining museum here. As per Wikipedia, even though the palace is named after shivappa nayak, it was actually built by hyder Ali. I also agree with this view because the tipu's palace is Bangalore also has similar style and architecture. Numerous antiquities collected from near by temples and archeological sites, such as sculptures, inscriptions and hero stones from the hoyasala era and later periods are on display at the palace grounds. It's a must visit for every one to understand our ancient history especially for kids. You can also see here ancient pottery and seals from Harappan and mohenjodaro periods. Old manuscripts written in palm leaves can be seen here. Many wooden boxes l, decorative pieces carved in Sandal wood also displayed here. Rockets used in olden days can be seen here
Must visit place in Shimoga town. At present, It's closed for Public. Lot of improvement and renovation works going on. It's expected to complete by November 2023.
A very unassuming place, with some very interesting stories. And of course, you can find some beautiful sculptures, and inscription stones. But they need to be preserved better, else they are going to get damaged soon. The museum has rare manuscripts. Worth a visit.
SHIVAPPA NAYAKA PALACE, SHIMOGA : A 16th century palace in teak and rose wood – Built by King Shivappa Naik of Keladi dynasty - Lying on the banks of River Tunga – Now converted into a Government Archaeological museum –The archaeological and art remains include prehistoric antiquities, coins, stone inscriptions, armoury, paintings, manuscripts, wood arts etc. The stone carving and sculptures are arrayed around the courtyard - Entrance is free – Present curator is Sri. R. Shejeswara, a man with great ideas but lacking fund for implementing his plans – A window to Karnataka’s past culture and civilization - worthy to visit.
Absolutely loved this place..!! Green beauty..fort will b completely covered in green..this place remains un noticed as is located in Sagara Kollur road almost in the midst of the forest. shops or food will not be available. Don't miss this place if you are going on this route.

Highly maintained public place, with neat gardens and surroundings. There is no entry fee or any sort, and it is not crowded even on Sundays. Can learn a great deal about the art and architecture of the Palace and surrounding. BONUS: #1 Go up the stairs of the palace and explore the upper levels. #2 I took the adjacent street (by mistake) while searching for it, but found wonderful palace walls at the perimeter. Check them out.

Beautiful and Ancient temple of Goddess Shri Sigandooru Chowdeshwari. I visited this temple for the first time and enjoyed it a lot such as the journey from Sagara to Sigandooru, because the journey begins from the ferry ride and the thing is you'll enjoy the journey between Sagara and Sigandooru. Right now, Ferries are the only connection between two sides. The bridge is also under construction and some said that it will be completed soon. Nature and the beautiful scenery and the river catches your attention and makes it the most memorable journey and it takes approx 35 - 40mins to reach the other side, after that there are jeep facilities available and you should travel in the jeep to Sigandooru Temple and the area is surrounded by lots greenery and the Sharavathi backwaters. The temple is very beautiful and we'll maintained and has a lot of positive vibes, we'll designed and peaceful place and best place to travel with Family. The temple also provides Prasaada (ಪ್ರಸಾದ), after the Devi darshana.. you can have tasty Prasaada (ಪ್ರಸಾದ) provided by the temple. Shri Sigandooru Chowdeshwari is also known as One of the most Powerful Goddess and one of the Beautiful and Powerful Holy Place.
"Sigandur Kshetra, cradled by the serene backwaters of the Sharavati River, is a sacred site dedicated to Goddess Chowdeshwari Amma. Devotees flock here especially during Amavasya and Poornima, considered the most auspicious days for pooja rituals believed to cleanse negative energies and restore inner balance. While the temple experience is deeply fulfilling, accommodation options in Sigandur may not meet expected standards. For a more comfortable stay, it's advisable to plan lodging in nearby villages such as Tumari or Sagara."
Sigandoor Temple offers a peaceful spiritual experience with decent facilities for visitors. Visiting the temple early in the morning ensures a peaceful experience with minimal crowds. The poojas are conducted respectfully, and the priests personally interact with devotees to understand their intentions for offerings. Overall, despite a few minor drawbacks, Sigandoor Temple is a serene destination that provides a fulfilling spiritual experience. Crossing the sharavathi valley by the launch Along with our bike or car is must experience event
Nice Devi temple. Parking is free. Shortest route from Sagara is through ferry crossing. Anna prasada is offered to all the devotees.
Very powerful devi temple. Crossing sharavati river in lounge along with our vehicles is thrilling lifetime experience. Sad part is bridge has been constructed, lounge service is going to be closed soon.
Great energy.. The temple is organised and well administered.. The environment is peace full..The priests are polite and non commercial as is the case in many temples now. Strongly recommended

This is a beautiful waterfall in the forest. Its beauty is different during the rainy season. It can also scare us. You can reach here by taking a ticket for 100 rupees per person and walking a little through the forest. It is a place with a lot of leeches.
Jogigundi is a tranquil and lesser-known spot near Agumbe. We visited after checking out the Barkana Falls viewpoint. Nestled in dense forests, it provides a peaceful escape from city life. While the waterfall is small, the refreshing outdoor pool experience was fantastic. Although swimming is prohibited, we enjoyed a dip. Entry tickets for Jogigundi and Barkana cost 100 for adults and 50 for children.
Jogigundi Waterfalls is a serene and refreshing spot deep inside the forest near Agumbe. The walk to the falls is short and scenic, and the view at the end is totally worth it. The water flows into a natural cave-like pool, making it feel like a secret getaway. Clean, peaceful, and surrounded by lush greenery — perfect for nature lovers and a quick dip. Go early to enjoy it with fewer people. Don’t miss it if you're in Agumbe.
Jogigundi Falls is a serene jungle gem near Agumbe, just a short trek from the road. The water springs from a cave and drops about 20 ft into a clear pool perfect for dipping your feet or enjoying nature’s calm. Entry via forest permit 100 is smooth if you have network. Avoid during heavy rain 🌧️
Visited during heavy mansoon ..entry fee100 rs per. Head. For both jogigindi and barkana fallls.but in heavy mansoon guard gold that if u ho to barkana falls also batakan falls is waste of time during mansoon.bcoz of only fog no view is gherein batakan .so visited jogigindi falls only.need to walk 5-10 mins ..easy walk..can't take bath in heavy mansoon..just seeing form near...best experience..
My college friends and I visited a waterfall in February and hiked a nice path. However, the waterfall wasn't very impressive at that time. I later asked a friend when the best time to see the waterfall was, and they recommended the monsoon season. Also, there is an entry ticket of ₹100 per person which is to be bought thete itself.
The cascading water was truly a magnificent sight to behold. The way it gracefully flowed over the rocks was so peaceful and calming. One could easily get lost in the beauty of nature. Witnessing this natural wonder left me in awe. Overall, it was a truly unforgettable experience.
Nice place to visit during and after monsoons. You will not find water if you visit the place in any other season. An easy hike of 15-20 mins from parking will take you to this place. Be prepared for leeches if you visit during monsoon. There is an entry fee of 100 per person. The place is maintained neatly so try not to litter around.

Koodlutheertha Falls: Trek, Swim & Rainbow Magic! Koodlutheertha Falls is an absolute must-visit! A roughly 2 km, slightly challenging trek (not ideal for beginners, and beware of leeches during monsoon) leads you to this beautiful, serene waterfall. Dropping from 300 feet, it creates a refreshing atmosphere where you're allowed to get close and swim. The trek itself is pleasing, with small streams and large steps. We even found a spot with a rainbow near the falls – an amazing highlight! The department maintains it well, with almost no littering. It's peaceful and less crowded. Parking is ₹15 (bike), entry ₹100/person.
Very beautiful falls. Have to trek for 1.5-2km to reach the falls , but the trekking is very easy as paths are well maintained . To have best experience visit weekdays as it will be less crowded. Kindly do not litter the place
This fall is so good.. no trecking need to reach near fall ... In raning day's careful about leaches, 100₹ per person to enter... Nice view... Good place to play in water... Not suitable for swimming...
We went on November 2nd, and it was a very beautiful, thrilling and relaxing experience. To reach the waterfall u have to trek a little, just 1 to 1.5 km one way. Trek is easy too. There weren't any leeches during our trek. But if u go during proper rainy season, then u can expect a "leech rainfall." Still a beautiful place regardless. And before u begin the trek u have to get tickets. It is not expensive.
I recently visited Koodlu-Teertha Falls near Agumbe, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! The falls are at their best during September and October, thanks to the rains. There's a short, roughly 2-kilometer trek to reach the falls, and the entry fee is about 100 rupees per person. We also paid a 50-rupee parking fee. One thing to keep in mind is that there are quite a few leeches around, so it’s good to carry some antiseptics and be prepared. The waterfalls themselves are breathtaking, with the mist and the wind creating a magical atmosphere. I highly recommend visiting Kudlu Teertha Falls for anyone who loves nature and adventure!
Kudlu Theertha Falls offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers. The approach from the main road is along a rough mud track — dusty in summer and challenging during rains. The trek from the entry point to the waterfall takes some effort, and leeches are common during monsoon and winter months. However, the destination makes every step worth it. The sight of the long waterfall cascading from the rocky cliffs into a serene pool below feels heavenly. Visitors can take a dip or swim in the crystal-clear water. Monkeys are often seen near the top, so it’s wise to stay alert for any falling stones. While earlier there were no guards, some staff are now present to ensure safety. Overall, it’s a must-visit spot for those who enjoy adventure, tranquility, and the raw beauty of the Western Ghats.
Kudlutheertha truly feels like heaven on earth! 🌿 The stretch towards the destination is a bit off-road, and once you reach there, be ready for a short uphill trek to the falls. The trail is filled with leeches, so be prepared😭 but trust me, every bit of the struggle is worth it! The moment you reach the falls, the view is absolutely soothing and magical. I was completely mesmerized when a rainbow appeared across the mist ❤️ such a breathtaking sight! 🌈✨ Do visit this hidden gem, but make sure to reach early as the place closes by 3 PM.
A very wonderful place, entry fees per person is 100 and parking would be around 50. And try not to carry any plastic or less plastic. There are leaches so carry Dettol or salt and rocks are slippery. There is no changing room near falls u can, so change in the entry point. And water is not too deep it's around 5-6 feet, so those who don't know to swim also can enjoy.
