Huge 11th-century fortress complex on a hilltop with views over city to the Alps, plus museums.

Great view but you need to pay extra to go to the tower (which we didn’t). Still absolutely worth visiting while you’re in Salzburg. You can skip the line if you buy or get tickets upfront (we got them from our hotel).
Very nice fortress overlooking the city of Salzburg. You get some magnificent view from up there. You also have the opportunity to got to the top of the fortress and get a full 360 degree view of the region. They have some nice museums and displays inside the fortress. Definitely worth it to spend some good amount of time. Even if you are here for short time, it would recommend 1.5hr just to walk through the entire area.
Bought the entrance and funicular train ticket and it's a enjoyable trip up the hill to the castle. Plenty of stuff to see in the fortress and also great view of Salzburg city from the top of the castle. Really beautiful scenery and we don't want to leave but had to rush to find the train station as we need to catch the 12pm Hallstatt tour.
We visited the Fortress Hohensalzburg and had a memorable experience. We didn’t know about the funicular to go up, so we walked all the way — a great cardio workout and a nice way to enjoy the surroundings. 🏰 The fortress itself is beautiful and very well preserved, offering a fascinating glimpse into Salzburg’s history. The museum inside is truly impressive, with excellent exhibits that make the visit even more enriching. 🌄 The highlight, however, is the breathtaking view from the top. Looking out over Salzburg and the surrounding mountains is simply unforgettable. ✅ Overall, Fortress Hohensalzburg is a must-see attraction in Salzburg. Whether you take the funicular or walk up, the combination of history, architecture, and stunning scenery makes it well worth the visit.
Truly beautiful, must see spot in Salzburg. Definitely recommend the panaromic view from the fortress tower. We unfortunately hadn’t visited neither the museum nor the armory, but we enjoyed it anyway. We really appreciated the stand where we could get for ourselves some Glühwein and simply enjoy the beautiful night view.
We thought there would be more spaces that were open for tours, but the tour was still good. The restaurant in the fortress was great! Service was great as well as the food and we enjoyed as much as we could eat as the portion sizes were large.
This is a fascinating site. There are many things to see in this historic place. Be prepared for some step climbing to get the very best views. We enjoyed learning all the history about the Fortress. There are rooms full of interesting items dating from ancient times to modern life.
Amazing castle and exhibition. Everything is modern, interactive and multisensory. Truly a nice example of the basic of how exhibitions today should look like. Plus the ticket's price is also very okay. 100% recommend buying tickets in advance though, there was a super long queue when buying on the spot.
Altstadt Salzburg
2. Altstadt Salzburg

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Busy Altstadt, the old town, centers on Getreidegasse, a narrow, pedestrian street with shops selling folk costumes and antiques. Mozart’s Birthplace has exhibits on the composer’s early life. The Domquartier includes the domed 1600s Salzburg Cathedral and the baroque Residence, with art by Rembrandt and Rubens. A steep path and a funicular lead to Hohensalzburg Fortress, with several museums and city views.

Nature & Parks
Iconic, 17th-century palace with ornamental gardens, plus classical concerts in the lavish ballroom.
Slide 1 of 8
Mirabell Palace is absolutely stunning and a must-see in Salzburg. The palace itself is elegant, but the real highlight is the Mirabell Gardens — beautifully maintained with colorful flower beds, sculptures, and fountains that make it feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. The view looking through the gardens towards the fortress is breathtaking and perfect for photos. It’s free to enter the gardens, and they’re easy to walk through, so it’s a great stop even if you’re short on time. If you visit in spring or summer, the flowers are in full bloom and the atmosphere is magical. Music lovers will also appreciate that some of the “Sound of Music” scenes were filmed here. Highly recommend visiting in the morning before the crowds arrive — it’s peaceful, romantic, and unforgettable.
The gardens are magnificent. Symmetry and colors are combined in beautiful compositions. Access to the gardens is free. The palace itself is also free, but there is nothing to see. Access is only to the staircase, which is magnificent, but it is disappointing that there is no access to the halls. We only managed to peek into one.
It's a really beautiful and popular place in Salzburg that everyone have to see. The gardens are stunning and you can enjoy sitting around and taking photos. There are also classical music concerts there, which are definitely a must-see if you love this genre!
Even in late October, without all the flowers, the gardens are well kept and beautiful. I’m a huge fan of the dwarf garden! Very fun, though not PC (bc history is not PC) statues in there! Worth a walk through and FREE. The only part of the palace that was accessible was the marble staircase area—I believe it had a real name. Pretty, but the gardens are better!
Beautiful palace with stunning gardens. Easy to walk around and free to enter. The views with the flowers, statues, and Salzburg backdrop are picture-perfect. Peaceful spot to relax, take photos, or just enjoy the scenery. Great for a short, calming visit.
Nice walk around the gardens with the memorable views of the Sound of Music. There were three weddings going on at the same time. Seems the palace was closed for visitors today. Loaded with tourists parties there for the same reason as us no doubt.
Huge garden with fountain, it's a pity we visited there in winter, I didn't see the red flowers 💐chill vibe, people walk around enjoying quiet moments
Even though it was rainy a lot, the sculptures at the outskirts of the palace and the gardens inside were pretty. The cobblestone ground was a bit swampy and uncomfortable to walk, but anyway I bet it'd be fascinating to revisit there on sunny days.
Salzburg Cathedral

Catholic cathedral

Twin spires top this baroque-style 17th-century cathedral, with a museum housing sacred treasures.
Slide 1 of 8
The inside of this cathedral is absolutely stunning. The walls and ceilings are bathed in rich and intricate detail and the ceiling has eye catching murals and statues. It truly is something to see and worth a bit of your time in Salzburg. It doesn’t take long to just pop in and admire. I would encourage visitors to wear appropriate clothing and act appropriately considering this is a church.
Beautiful cathedral!! Entrance fee is a modest 5 Euros. Once inside be sure to check out the underground in the far back left (facing the altar). Also there’s a giant metal structure where Mozart was baptized as a child (see in my photos)
Beautiful large cathedral with high ceiling and open space. We got lucky as a small group of musicians were performing which allowed the music to echo throughout the cathedral which made for a peaceful ambiance. I would highly recommend visiting this place.
Just amazing! The Cathedral has a unique architecture and we also booked ourselves for an organ concert. Every day at noonafter the 12 o'clock bells there is an organ concert. It's preferable you book your place. The player changed the organs and during half hour he played different pieces to three different organs. A must do activity in Salzburg.
Nice cathedral and need 5 euro entrance ticket. We were here on the first day of Rupertikirtag festival, so the stalls and other activities are just starting to kick off the festivities. From here we walk to the Festung Hohensalzburg gate to buy the cable car ticket.
The Salzburg Cathedral is a breathtaking Baroque masterpiece in the heart of the Old Town. Its grand façade, elegant dome, and beautifully decorated interior create a peaceful and inspiring atmosphere. The cathedral’s historic organ, once played by Mozart, and its stunning frescoes make it a true cultural gem. Surrounded by the charming Domplatz and views of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, it’s a must-see landmark that perfectly captures Salzburg’s beauty and history.
Totally worth the time to collect oneself inside out of the cold for a few private moments in prayer. An amazing dome and frescos are amazing showing of the Passion of Christ. - Jesus, show me the path of life!
An absolutely beautiful church! This stands out from many of the other churches we’d seen because of the stunning black and white design that makes the paintings pop. The organ was also beautiful. There is an entrance fee but the discount with the Salzburg card brings it down to €3.5 per person.
Mozart's Birthplace

Birthplace of Wolfgang Mozart in 1756, now a house museum with tours detailing his young life.
Slide 1 of 8
Mozart’s Birthplace Museum is a must-visit in the heart of Salzburg. With the Salzburg Card, entry is free and quick, making it very convenient. The museum offers wonderful insights into Mozart’s life, his family, and his works, with many fascinating details on display. A free app with an audio guide is available, which makes the visit even more engaging and informative. One of the highlights is a special room where instruments are built into the floor—when you walk across it, music begins to play. If you’re visiting with others, it creates a truly delightful and interactive experience. Overall, a well-curated museum that brings Mozart’s story to life in the city where it all began.
A must-see in Salzburg. It was fascinating to visit the birthplace of the great musician. The museum houses many of the musician's personal belongings, his musical instruments, and much more. Be sure to use the Mozart Museums Salzburg App as your guide.
Great museum and tribute to Mozart. Informative displays with historical significance. I really like that the museum has a QR code you can scan and have a self guided tour simply with your own phone. We were there on a Sunday and it was not over crowded. They have a few public restrooms also available. The gift shop is very nice and inviting. I highly recommend it.
The museum collection is quite simple, and tickets can be purchased in advance on the website. When we asked the ticket counter staff about an audio guide, the lady said there wasn’t one — but upon entering, we discovered there is actually a free app to download. The staff didn’t seem very professional, and although the museum mentions having one of the largest collections from the Mozart Association, to be honest, the value for money felt quite low. Also, the weather was very hot, and it felt like a sauna inside the museum.
Nice, but definitely wouldn't go back. A fine visit for a rainy day, but if you have other things to do, this can be skipped. It would have been a bit nicer if they had some of Mozart's music playing as you visit the rooms.
Located on Getreidegasse in Salzburg’s Old Town, Mozart’s Birthplace is a fascinating stop for anyone interested in classical music and history. The house where Mozart was born in 1756 has been converted into a well-curated museum displaying his original instruments, family portraits, and letters, giving a personal insight into his early years. The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Ticket prices are €15 for adults, €12 for students under 27, seniors, and groups, €5 for youth (15–18 years), €4.50 for children (6–14 years), and €30 for families. Entry is free for children under six, people with disabilities, and Salzburg Card holders. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds, especially during summer. It’s a short yet enriching experience that captures the essence of Mozart’s genius and Salzburg’s musical heritage.
We were very excited to visit the home place of Mozart whilst staying in Salzburg as I am a big fan, however I have to say we were not very impressed for few reasons.. 1 Overcrowded, feels like you can't enjoy the place without having 10/15 Japanese on your shoulder coughing and sneezing you in the face.. 2 The interactive section was poorly presented, they should modernize it a bit.. 3 Too expensive for what they offer. Happy to have done it, but wouldn't return.
Historic area in the heart of Salzburg with charming streets, shops, and cafés. Mozart’s Birthplace is a highlight, offering interesting exhibits about his early life. A great spot to stroll, enjoy the architecture, and soak in the city’s musical heritage

Beautiful place to visit, main attraction is the trick fountains that you can only visit in groups every 30 min. The smaller interior can be visited any time and is not timed. Be mindful that you will most likely get wet or surprise your friends and keep it secret. I recommend being there when they open so you guarantee to be the 1st or 2nd group
Had a great time visiting this gorgeous museusm / castle / park! Two things were particularly great: the Trick Fountains and the Children Playground as we were visiting with our 3yo toddler. We will definitely be back for the playground during our stay in Salzburg !
The trick fountains was an amazing experience. We didn’t expect to have spent so much time there but we are glad to have had. Lots to see. The palace was very interesting as well.
We had a wonderful day here, the number 25 bus takes about half an hour from central Salzberg an drops you right by the entrance. Hellbrunne consists of a stunning palace, gardens and estate in the mannerist style. The surprise fountain garden is great fun but do expect to get a bit wet. The folk museum, palace and fountain garden are part of a 15 euro ticket which is good value. The water parterre gardens, stone theatre cut out of the rock, the wonderful views over the city and mountains, arboretum and playground are all free. There is a good cafe too.
Must see attraction reflecting Austrian culture and finesse’ each sculpture, Fountain and Artwork is exemplary and enjoyable for a connoisseur. Reaching there is easy too. Just take bus 25 from HH central bus station. Have a great day when u visit… Best season between April to September.
I really enjoyed my visit to Hellbrunn Palace. The palace itself is beautiful, but the best part for me was the trick fountains—hidden jets that surprise you when you least expect it—and the water-powered moving sculptures that come alive as you walk by. It was playful and refreshing, and made the whole place feel magical
The palace was built early 17th century in the early baroque style as a pleasure palace for day use in summer only and therefore had no bedrooms. It was commissioned by Prince-Bishop Markus Sittikus von Hohenems. You start your visit with a tour of the trick garden with all sorts of hidden waterfountains that the Bishop liked to use on his guests by surprise. This is a timeslot entry so after you get your ticket go there first. At the start you can have your photo taken which you can buy at the end of this tour. At the start you also get a language specific audio guide. You exit this part in the beautiful garden and can visit a museum inside the palace with interesting information about the Bishop
The kids enjoyed it so much. We wanted a nice place to pass our last day and this was it! Take the tour inside, give the kids the tour-guide and don't miss the chance to get wet! The kids wanted to do the tour twice! For the park bring a picnic basket with drinks. I hope that in the future the restaurants inside the castle will make a picnic menu.... this is idial. We walked around the duck pool and in the kids playground and it was awesome! We thought it will be 1-2 hours and we finished after 4! Need to say that the staff was so kind and helpful they become friends 🧡

We took a public Bus 25 and ended straight in front of the Mountain cable car (Untersbergbahn GmbH). You can buy the cable car ticket from their office counter on the day itself. Beautiful scenic view on its way up. Price €34 There are Restaurants for you to chill and enjoy the panorama of Austria and Germany. Plus you can either do a short trek or a long trek and it’s up to individual. There are ravens flying around. They looked pretty hungry, just be ware of your food. Lolx The best panorama views I had seen so far in my trip.
Climbed October 10. Weather was quite bad but we could tell it is a really nice mountain. If it's rainy watch your step since it can get slippery. It is not that long of a hike anyway. We made the ascent in 3hrs 20 mins and we are of average fitness
A must see and do in Salzburg. The cable car to the top is quite amazing. But what you do there is up to you. There are trails for the intrepid to come up on their own steam and you will have lots of company. Don’t forget your hiking boots and sticks. And check the weather- it might be better to be flexible if you have the time. If you are doing 2 activities or more in Salzburg check out the Salzburg card beforehand. It includes the cable car but also public transport from the train station and quite sure the airport too.
You may use Salzburg card to take the cable car ride, or purchase tickets before ride €34 for round trip. Long or short trek totally depends on your preferences. View on top are stunning and breathtaking 😍
This was an amazing experience. We visited on Sunday 25th June 2023. We took bus 25 from Salzburg train station. It was a beautiful and scenic bus ride. The Untersberg is the last bus stop. We bought 2 up and down (return) tickets for €56. The cable cars run frequently, every 15 minutes. The staff got in the car and shut the door, and off we went. It takes approximately 8 minutes to get to the top of the mountain. It gets bumpy when you get to the cable stations. The views are amazing. I was scared but I totally enjoyed it. When we got to the mountain, we walked up to the top of the mountain where there is a big cross. We could see the top of other mountains, and had a clear view of the city of Salzburg. We even saw a plane take off. The view from the top is amazing, the air is so clean and fresh. It was totally worth it. I fully recommend this experience.
My visit to Untersberg in 2018 left me in awe of its majestic beauty and provided an adventurous escape into nature. While I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, I would give it a solid four-star rating. Untersberg's breathtaking landscapes, towering peaks, and lush greenery presented a picturesque setting that was truly awe-inspiring. The panoramic views of the surrounding Salzburg region were simply breathtaking, making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts and hikers. The cable car ride to the summit was a thrilling adventure in itself. The ascent offered sweeping vistas and a sense of anticipation for what awaited at the top. However, I would have appreciated more information or commentary during the journey to enhance the overall experience. Exploring the trails and paths on Untersberg was a delight. The well-maintained routes catered to varying fitness levels, allowing visitors to choose between leisurely walks or more challenging hikes. The tranquility of the natural surroundings and the invigorating mountain air offered a welcome respite from city life. The staff at Untersberg were friendly and helpful, providing guidance and recommendations for the best hiking routes. Their expertise and willingness to assist added value to the visit. While Untersberg's natural beauty was undoubtedly its highlight, I found the lack of amenities and facilities slightly disappointing. Limited dining options and restroom facilities could be inconvenient for visitors, especially those planning to spend a significant amount of time exploring the area. In summary, Untersberg is a nature lover's paradise, offering stunning vistas and exciting hiking opportunities. The cable car ride and the majestic landscapes are highlights that make the journey worthwhile. However, a more informative experience during the cable car ride and improved amenities would have elevated the overall visit. Nonetheless, I highly recommend Untersberg to those seeking a memorable outdoor adventure and a chance to immerse themselves in the wonders of nature.
What an incredible experience this was. Probably one of the highlights of our trip to Salzburg, Austria. The cable car took us up and then we hiked around. It was beautiful! Amazing views of Salzburg basin and surrounding areas of the mountain. Highly recommend!
One of the best places to visit if you are in Salzburg. 25 min bus from city centre and then 10 min ropeway which will take you into clouds with a thrilling experience of the height. Salzburg city card covers all public transport and the ropeway itself.

Bucket-list experience – highly recommended! Red Bull Hangar-7 was an unforgettable stop during my trip to Salzburg. The combination of aviation, motorsport, and cutting-edge architecture is unlike anything I’ve seen before. The displays — from historic planes to Red Bull’s Formula 1 beasts — are absolutely stunning. You can really feel the passion for speed, precision, and innovation in every corner of the space. I’ve uploaded some photos I took during my visit — but honestly, they don’t do it justice. You have to experience it in person to really appreciate the scale and atmosphere. The best part? Entry is free! There’s also a Michelin-star restaurant and a stylish bar inside, which adds to the overall premium feel of the place. Whether you’re a motorsport fan, an aviation enthusiast, or just someone who appreciates world-class design — Hangar-7 is a must-see. 10/10 would visit again.
The building has incredible architecture. Impressive. Admission is free. Inside there is a neat exhibition of contemporary artists, which makes the place even more interesting. We visited it early on Thursday, but unfortunately the planes were taking them out of the hangar to participate in flights and we couldn't look at them. Fortunately, the cars and motors were there and we're able to look at them at least. The fan shop is not very big, but you can find your favorite Red Bull item.
Stumbled on this by chance, was recommended by the person who's apartment we book for our holidays. It's free to enter which is awesome, has a small collection from bikes to F1 cars to planes and helicopters. Loved seeing the F1 cars up close as a massive fan. Doesn't take long to look around though so don't expect to be in there anymore than an hour.(But that's my opinion) Overall pretty good and worth a visit.
Visiting Red Bull Hangar-7 was an incredible experience! ✈️🚁 The unique architecture of the building itself is already impressive, but the real magic happens inside. The exhibition of historic airplanes, Formula 1 cars, and helicopters is simply breathtaking. Everything is perfectly arranged, and you can really feel the spirit of innovation and passion for speed. The place combines history, technology, and art in such a fascinating way. The atmosphere is modern and inspiring, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It’s a must-see in Salzburg not only for motorsport or aviation fans, but for anyone who enjoys extraordinary places. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Absolutely superb place to visit if you're near Salzburg. It's completely free and it's a working hangar, which means that you can see planes come in and vehicles moved around while you're there, which gives it a different vibe than if it was a display-only place. The building itself is quite cool, with glass all around and trees inside, with a little art gallery to the side and a cafe/restaurant. There's plenty of free parking outside and it's very easy to access by car. This was one of the highlights of our trip, even though we only spent 1 hour here for a walk-around and coffee. The indoor walkway closes in the late afternoon, so make sure to go before then if you want to see the vehicles from above!
Great attraction. Amazing display of Red Bull F1, Flying Bulls, and motorcycle history. Free entry to the museum. Bar and events. Great location.
Red Bull Complex - Anger 7 - Salzburg. A large complex that includes a display of the company's aircraft from all years, special racing cars, motorcycles and engines and more. Very nice, very beautiful, special, impressive. In addition, the adjacent runway where you can see the sights. There is a cafe and ice cream. There is an exhibition of the company and a gift shop.
Pretty cool, they really should start selling energy drinks 👍 You can enter for free so why not. You can see cool Red Bull vehicles and some art on display but the merch store closes earlier than the entire exhibition's closing time.

Even if you are not a music fan, you may like to visit this place to see that , sometimes fame comes after a highly talented person departs. Then the name is used by the country in claiming the individuals’ identity as a game changer for tourism. Lots to be consumed as an eye opener.
Nothing too interesting if you aren’t really a music fan… had I known this I would’ve skipped this to save some money and I’d have gone straight to the birth house, which was very interesting indeed. Enjoyed the free app with the guided tour.
I was curious about "the" music genius. It's worth buying a city pass that works for 24 hours - clock starts after entering the first place. We found the city pass very convenient and saved money for all the places we planned to go in the city, just walk to the door and show them the tickets on my phone. This place was not very exciting, but it fulfilled my curiosity. It didn't take us too much time in line or walk through even on a weekend.
The Mozart family lived here from 1773 to 1787 but W A Mozart left the place in 1781 to live with his wife Constanze in rented apartments in Vienna. I missed an impression of the original decorations of the 18th century but that may be due to the fact that the house was largely destroyed by a bomb in 1944. It was later meticulously reconstructed true to the original plans. There were some interesting items related to the life and times of Wolfgang
We been there last May and the place is just normal. Its an old building and you can see a small sign with Mozart woonhaus on it with austrian flag. Its a museum but we didnt go inside for the tour. Its easily accessible to public transportation in Austria and its also nearby like 5 min walking to the Mirabelle palace garden
Unless you view Mozart with Utmost devotion, this place is entirely skippable.. Almost half the artifacts displayed has no relevance to Mozart.. For most, this mueseum for a 15 Euro it will appear a rip-off. Save this money and attent a Mozart Concert in town or in Vienna instead
There is not much to see and experience here but good for Mozart fans to know more about him. It gives information on his childhood and life.
We wanted to do a very quick visit here on the last day of our stay. Came at 16:54, they close at 17:30 and a sign outside says that last entry is 30 minutes before closing. But there was a very arrogant lady at the door and sent us to ***, that they are closed and we have to come another day. We told her there is sign saying 30 minutes, but she insisted that we should go.

Friedhof St. Peter is a peaceful and historic cemetery in downtown square of Salzburg. The ornate baroque tombstones and the cliffside catacombs create a unique and striking atmosphere. Walking through, you can’t help but feel the weight of its history. Inside the nearby church, I lit a candle for a loved one who was very ill. It was a quiet and beautiful moment, made even more special because we used to watch “The Sound of Music” together. Being in a place so connected to the film added a layer of meaning to the experience. This spot is serene and reflective, perfect for appreciating Salzburg’s rich past or finding a moment of connection and peace. It’s a visit I’ll always hold close to my heart :)
St. Peter’s Cemetery in Salzburg is a peaceful and picturesque spot nestled at the foot of the Festungsberg. The well-maintained grounds feature ornate wrought-iron crosses, colorful flowers, and shaded pathways, creating a serene atmosphere that’s perfect for a quiet stroll. The surrounding architecture adds to the charm, with the nearby church and rock-carved catacombs enhancing the unique setting. It’s a lovely place to pause and appreciate the tranquil side of Salzburg’s Old Town.
A peaceful and beautiful cemetery. We enjoyed the calm atmosphere and admiring the differences between this and cemeteries in the US, and appreciated how this felt more like a celebration of life and reunion of families after death. The area was very well maintained and not too crowded.
Very beautiful cemetery and I definitely recommend visiting if you're in Salzburg! It's free to enter. Taking pictures and just strolling is fine as long as we're respectful. You can find it just by following google maps directions. P.S. don't forget to check out the catacombs which is here also. You have to pay €2 to enter but I think it is worth it. Christians, you can pray inside the catacomb and it can be very peaceful if you visit at the right time when there's no people.
Was included with the Salzburg card so I checked out (it’s a nominal fee otherwise). Walking up the stairs, it offers some great views of St. Peter’s! Definitely worth spending about 10-15 minutes to check it out.
A place in Salzburg I would recommend everyone to visit. The truly extraordinary cemetery with historic church, it was pleasure to see.
Quiet cemetery of which the lay-out was used to model the studio cemetery in the movie Sound of Music
Even though it's a cemetery, it's very well known and nice area to walk. Beautiful plants and flowers adorning the grave. There's many old grave but there's still new one too. Most of the graves are reserved as there's section for family graves as well. It's well laid out and there's a church in the centre of this cemetary.

The whole area was beautiful. I think I read that the interior of the church is Roccoco style - it was very dark in there. The surrounding of the cemetery and catacomb area offers really picturesque views. Very historic church that was interesting to research !
St. Peter's Abbey is a breathtaking piece of history nestled in the heart of Salzburg. Dating back to the 7th century, this Catholic church and monastery exude an aura of timeless beauty and serenity. The Baroque architecture, intricate decorations, and peaceful atmosphere make it a must-visit for history lovers and spiritual seekers alike. One of the highlights is the picturesque cemetery and catacombs, which offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. The surroundings are stunning, with the abbey seamlessly blending into the rocky landscape. Whether you're admiring the Rococo-style interior or exploring the historical graves, every corner of St. Peter's Abbey tells a story. A visit here is not just about sightseeing—it's an experience that leaves you with a deep appreciation for Salzburg’s rich heritage. Highly recommended.
Very nice Abbey. It’s a great place to take a stroll and look at the cemetery which is uniquely designed. The movie The Sound of Music scene setting was inspired by this abbey, where the Von Trappe family hide so that they can escape. It is worth the visit.
The cemetery was unlike anything that I have seen. Though the sound of music took the look of St. Peter's cemetery it was not filmed here. Still very much worth seeing. Walking around the Abby in the court there are some areas open to enter, however I was not dressed church appropriate to enter so I can't comment on the inside
St. Peter’s Kirche in Salzburg has a way of turning an ordinary evening into something quietly transcendent. Tonight’s concert unfolded in that gilded Baroque nave like a gentle revelation. The choir warmed my heart and lifted my soul — not with force, but with a kind of luminous sincerity that made the entire church feel alive. Their harmonies rose into the painted vaults, settled over the crowd, and carried us somewhere softer and more hopeful than the winter night outside. When the applause finally broke, it felt less like clapping and more like gratitude made audible. This resonance is part of the church’s long memory. St. Peter’s stands at the root of Salzburg’s identity, founded around 696 AD by Saint Rupert — the missionary bishop who restored life to the abandoned Roman town of Juvavum. Rupert wasn’t content with rebuilding walls; he rebuilt community. He founded St. Peter’s Abbey as a centre of learning, faith, and culture. From this monastery, Salzburg’s spiritual and intellectual life grew like a flame protected through storms. The church’s architecture embodies this layered history. Romanesque foundations still hold firm beneath Baroque splendour and Rococo grace. Marble columns, gilded altars, and serene paintings draw the eye upward, not to overwhelm but to remind you that beauty is a form of devotion. Music here doesn’t merely echo — it becomes part of a centuries-long conversation. Tonight’s choir stepped directly into that tradition. Their voices seemed to honour Rupert’s original vision: a place where the human spirit is cultivated through prayer, learning, and art. In a world that often runs faster than our hearts can follow, the concert offered a rare stillness — a moment where art, history, and faith touched. Leaving St. Peter’s, the cold felt softer. The world seemed a little more gracious. And that’s the quiet power of this ancient church: it teaches you that the soul can still be lifted, even by the simplest of human gifts — a choir singing together in a sacred place.
Magnificent abbey! You should try to make time for it, but there are so many things to do in Salzburg that this might be difficult. Having said that, if you have two full days in Salzburg, then it's a must-see, and missing this abbey would be a shame.
The cemetery is beautiful, gorgeous, well kept, and full of history! I have never seen grave sites like this! The way families take care of these sites is truly special. We did pay to see the catacombs, though I would say that isn’t necessary.
The Abbey inside is no different than any other Abbey. But behind the Abbey is fantastic where you see the historical graves and the stone structure built in the mountain. Also the first right turn before the Abbey, if yiu go down that street and up the stairs you get a magnificent view of Salzburg. I assume it is where church people live.

For families with young kids, this spot is an absolute gem. It's incredibly engaging and can easily fill 4 to 5 hours with its vast, multi-story layout. With dedicated buildings for nature and technology, there's so much to discover. We barely scratched the surface during our 3-hour visit, so plan for plenty of time!
Amazing museum! So many different exhibitions. The main downside is that there is now Air conditioning, thus was hot relatively to the nice weather outside, I assume on hotter days it can be even worse.
We couldn’t finish watching everything. It is a very BIG Museum.. So its better to go there early in the morning & explore the whole museum. 😍😍 its ok to bring dry foods & snacks for when you get hungry, there is a place on 5th or 6th floor (i forgot) where you can eat & relax. & theres a place where u can buy foods & eat there as well, so its ok either way. ❤️
This is a very befuddling natural science museum... And I LOVE it! Along with palaeontological exhibitions on the time of the dinosaurs and the ice age, there are many exhibits about marine life, the human body, human evolution, Austria's wildlife, even entirely fictional creatures! And the special touch is their aquarium and terrarium, which are home to many rare species! I really recommend this museum to anyone who's visiting Salzburg.
Loads of things to see and do at this museum. Definitely one to visit if you've got kids aged between 3 and 16. Cafe on site too. Entry included for FREE on the Salzberg Card.
Huge museum, very diverse with a lot of interactive experiences and short films. 3 hours were not enough to see all exhibits. No French (only English / German), but a lot of experiments and things to see that doesn’t need to understand the text/speech (including alive animals). Great family experience !
Very cool. Excellent for kids and adults. Huge amount to see. Need two days to get through. The interactive exhibits were very fun and informative. Fun for our little ones and us! Highly recommend the reptile zoo, but actually everything was cool. Had hot chips and magarita pizza at the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the price AND the quality. Very nice! Wish we were in Salzburg longer so we could go again and see the stuff we missed. Amazing place!
One of the best museums I've visited. It is really huge, we spent nearly whole day there and still missed a lot of stuff to see. I think you would need 2-3 days to fully enjoy the visit. Don't plan anything else for the day of your visit and come as early in the morning as possible.

We did a guided tour with Anna, she was excellent. The portions of the samples were impressive and they tasted delicious. The whole thing is done very well indeed - the beer, the tour, the museum, the food, the beer garden, the shop, the site, just everything. Highly recommend.
We really wanted to enjoy this more, but had an interesting time. We took the self guided tour that was included in the Salzburg card. The museum was large and had some interesting features, but to me it felt bigger than it needed to be for what they actually had on display. We enjoyed the video at the beginning but had to circle around a few times before it started playing in English. We ended up getting lost and couldn’t find the self tap room and exit, so had to exit out the beginning. Another tourist we’d seen inside said that they found the self tap room, but their self guided tour ticket wouldn’t let them make any pours. Since we had the Salzburg card it was “free” but if we’d payed for this it would’ve been pretty disappointing. Overall not the worst brewery museum experience but definitely not the best.
I've visited other brewery museums, but this one is the best. I didn't expect it to be so big and so well-made. The museum has several floors. There is a film hall in which a film tells about the history and production of #Stiegl beer, there are many digital points, there is a lot of history. We visited it without a guide and it was still very interesting. Great! First you go to BRAUSHOP and buy a ticket. If you have a Salzburgcard, the entrance is free. The entrance to the museum is at the cash register. With the ticket at the end of the museum, there is a bar and you pour yourself a beer. After the tour in BRAUSHOP, you taste one of their new beers, so it's a good idea to visit the museum at least 12:00. When buying the entrance ticket to the museum, you are given a coupon for a 10% discount on everything in the store. When you buy something, you also spin the wheel of fortune, where you are bound to win something. At the end, they even gave us a cider as a gift. A great experience. Definitely visit it.
Stigel Brewery Tour - Visitor Center - English Tour. An hour and a half tour of the museum + the factory on site and the production line. An hour and a half tour with explanations of the entire production process and the history of the Stigel company. Tastings of 4 different types of beer (1/3 cups each time) A very interesting tour. The guide explains the entire process and the history of the company in an interesting and unique way. We go through 4 parts of the factory and tour the company store. The cost for adult 22 eruo.
We came here to have lunch and try the beers and we were positively surprised by the food. We weren't expecting much, but all dishes were tasty. I would recommend the Stiegl Brat'l. I also personally like Stiegl beer, in general. I would recommend eating in the garden, if the weather allows. We didn't do any tours or visits.
The best beer we had while in Austria! The himbeer was absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed our meal.
We did the brewery tour and it was one of the few things on our trip we were underwhelmed by. Not sure if it was a poor guide or just not a great tour but will share key points: - about 90 minute tour which felt WAY long for what you saw. Lot of just standing around time - you get 3 beers, they were good, we had a large group so lot of the time was one guide pouring the beers - we went on a Saturday and the plant isn't running at all so it was a let down (there are several days of the week the plant is idle) - if you plan to eat there, book reservations in advance, they are sold out often - we didn't eat there so I can't comment on the food - guide used a portable speaker but was still tough to hear him at times I hate to say it but it was honestly really boring - all 4 of us said same thing that we would have not booked this.
pleasant experience. We visited the museum where we were at the end of tour also given a beer to taste and a radler as a souvenir. We also decided to have lunch in their restaurant where we were served quickly, the food was very good and the price was moderate. We paid 112€ for a wiener schnitzel, fried chicken, a children's menu, fried wild boar, pumpkin soup, 5 beers, juice and 1 dessert
