We had the fixed price lunch menu but I wanted to choose a dessert from the carte, no problem just paid the extra. What I love about food like this is that it tastes great and although on the plate the items don’t look massive at the end of the meal you’re totally satiated but not uncomfortably full. The sourdough and mushroom butter was a delicious start, I chose the fish of the day (gurnard) and OH had duck leg - they were both those sort of plates of food you don’t want to finish because they taste so good. When we arrived we were seated at the back of the restaurant and we were the only people seated. We ordered a bottle of wine off the menu to be told it was not available. We then tried to order Sea Bass but this was not available. I then asked if Lamb was available but this was also unavailable! We could only presume as there was a large party coming in an hour later all the food was being saved for them. What we also found amazing was that someone else was turned away being told they could not fit them in whilst we sat there in an empty room! By this time a waitress named Claire had taken over serving us. We explained to her it was our Anniversary and had chosen this restaurant because of the good reviews, but as they could not serve most of the things we wanted we would not be staying. Claire was very helpful and offered to try and find us a table at another suitable restaurant, which she managed to do. The fish is crispy, in non greasy home made batter, and succulent while the chips are fantastic, the salad was also high quality. The owners and staff here were brilliant people too. We decided to try the take away after a few days rest, this time as we were not as hungry but just greedy to retry this superb place so we had a home made fishcake with chips and shared this sat outside on the bench. You do have to wait while everything is cooked fresh and as stated for eating inside the restaurant it is well worth the wait. Again the chips were excellent and the fishcake really has to be tried to be believed. The homemade breadcrumb coating is a real compliment to the delicious interior of succulent tasty fish. I cannot recommend this place highly enough the food could not have been better well done to everyone involved here an absolute gem.

I didn't really want a Pinot as its not a drink I usually go for, but, I didnt want any upset so I agreed to one, I must say it was in fact one of the nicer ones I have had. There were 9 covers in total that night. The wait for our food was exceptionally long, it didn't help that Jessie was flying around serving and rushing back to the kitchen, even if we wanted more drinks there was no one to accommodate us. In all, our food was not of a standard we were expecting. I did have a concern with one of the starters being undercooked. The cuts of meat were not of a high standard or cooked exceptionally well, it didn't help matters that our orders consisted of Steak and Rack of lamb and there was no steak knives only plain everyday cutlery. Vegetables were cheap frozen chips and peas and were not Bistro standard at all. We arrived at Memories for 7pm and our main course didn't get to our table till nearly 8.50pm. We love our tapas restaurants but we've not come across one quite like this little gem. Whilst searching online we came across this place. The menu looked interesting with some unsual dishes. They also had a midweek offer of 2 tapas and 1 side for £20. Plus 2 for £14 cocktails. So we thought,lets give it a try and booked a table. The restaurant is located in the town, about a ten minute walk from the hotel we were staying at. On arrival we were shown to our table in the window. Whilst deciding on the menu we ordered a couple of cocktails. We had to kick off with the Bread Bag. Homemade bread served in a bag,which you have to rip open to release the smokey scent of roasted garlic and rosemary. Followed by Brixham scallops served with Spanish beef black pudding. Then grilled padron peppers hung on a tree with a side of allioli. The next dish was Asian brisket croque monsieur. That's not very Spanish is it? Slow cooked beef brisket marinated in an asian inspired sauce,sandwiched and fried in beef dripping with gruyere cheese served with a mushroom and marmalade dipping sauce. OMG.This was absolutely insane. The flavours were incredible. A knockout dish. After that a book was placed in front of us. We had totally forgot we had ordered the Book of meat - alicious. It's literally an anti-pasti book filled with some of the most delicious meats sliced fresh and placed in the pages.As you flick through,theres different delights from Spain,Italy and Devon. Served with homemade bread and oil. We finished with an affogato and coffee. This was a tapas with a difference and a great find. Front of house Ollie was very charming and the chef dished out some exceptional food. There’s a water slide too but I don’t think this is always functional. It’s fantastic for kids. Reception staff were very helpful giving advice on membership etc. The down sides were the changing rooms - there is nowhere to get dressed with privacy as there are only single changing rooms with a curtain, no family size changing rooms to put your baby down safely while you dress. It would be a squeeze to be in there with an older child too let alone more than one child. Nappy bins need emptying. The water was supposed to be 31 degrees but was very cold so must have not been heated to the correct temperature. Unfortunately parking adds quite an additional cost and drinks are basic but expensive in the cafe. There is no accessible toilet apart from upstairs very far from the pool. Varied menu which includes vegetarian and vegan options in addition to meals for omnivores. I had the dish of mixed vegetables with garnish followed by one of their delicious cakes. All the food is freshly cooked. There's covered seating outside and best of all no dogs allowed inside. Staff are friendly and helpful. The entire cafe is spotless with a clean, well equipped toilet. The toilet is upstairs. If you have mobility issues you might need to check if similar facilities are available for you. Highly recommended café. I shall definitely return. There are several dishes on the menu I'd like to try.
