We came in for dinner over the weekend and no one at the door.. Staff was fairly nice and service was good. But management was literally non existent. Back in the day managers did multiple rounds of visits with everyone. Truly made customers feel like family. That was one of the biggest reasons me and my wife loved the place. So many places over look people who spend their hard earned money and treat us like we don’t have other options. Back then they really knew how to make guest feel special. Now … there are no managers in site…. Definitely reflects in the emptiness of the atmosphere Overall just disappointing, to see our favorite spot go down hill so fast. Hopefully things change soon. The jambalaya was a Cajun style jambalaya as it wasn’t tomato based so it had the lighter color than the Creole style reddish tomato based jambalaya. It came out nice and hot. I’m a firm believer of salting during the cooking process, but the dish was borderline threshold of being too salty. The flavor was there though and was on par with what you would find in New Orleans. Just be sure to taste your food before adding additional salt. The hot wings are smoked and then flash fried to give it a bit of crispiness. They came out steaming hot. They overcooked the fry process a little too much as the wings were a little dry. The flavor however was enough to overlook the overcooked chicken. Great smoky flavor and seasoned very well. The heat level of the spiciness was not really very hot and was pretty much Louisiana hot sauce levels, but the chicken was delicious nonetheless. I popped up the street to BeeZr and Poppy and Parliament. Also closed in the later afternoon. I was trying to kill time before an appointment and I really wanted to try a restaurant I'd never been to...so I strolled over to Commerce to find them open. Here goes! The entrance is actually on Franklin Street as opposed to the square, though there is a door leading out onto the square. I was seated promptly when I arrived. The restaurant was almost entirely empty except for one pair of older women. It's small and cramped inside and there's a row of seating in the aisle of the restaurant that I imagine would be very uncomfortable to sit in during prime time -- too much moving around. I wasn't dressed fancy at all and no one said anything, so that was nice for me. I was seated by a window with a view to the square, which I enjoyed. The decor is simple and classic -- just fine. The ladies' restroom is a one holer and clean. Displayed nearby is their recent health score. CK and other downtown establishments have been beset by iffy scores recently. The tomatoes were sliced way too thick for my preference and the breading didn't bind super well and didn't have a lot of flavor. The pimento cheese was good but there wasn't enough of it.
