I'm grateful for coming across Victoria yum in January and I've been in here at least once a week if not more!! The brunch menu is great and the new breakfast bap is a must try. I have also finally found the perfect textured scones here! Please do try Victoria Yum and no other place will ever be good enough after your experience :)

I went in there with my partner and we ordered an array of food from sushi, to fried chicken to miso soup and I can honestly say I’ve never had better Japanese food. I’ve been to Japanese restaurants in Suffolk, Essex and London and this place tops it all. The sushi is mind blowing and the chicken is delicate and flavoursome. This particular visit was on the way home from Colchester zoo whilst on holiday. It’s no more expensive than others, although our 11 year old was charged the same as an adult. The service was super quick and is the quickest I’ve ever had an order based buffet. The food was hot, tasty and served within minutes. There were another 7 tables eating at the same time so I was very impressed with the time from order to service. The staff were friendly and were more than happy to accommodate our requests. Staff were very friendly when greeting us to seat us and when taking our food order/bringing our food etc. I ordered the ham and onion chutney sandwich. It was average price at £7.95 but not to bad as it did come with crisps and salad (as stated on the menu). It was presented very well, but unfortunately some of the ham was quite gristly and chewy. My partner had welsh rarebit which was very good quality, but extremely overpriced at £9.50 considering you only get one slice of toast/bread. For that price he expected to get 2 slices and we personally feel just 1 slice is quite stingy, as it is essentially just cheese on toast. His also came with a huge pile of salad which was not stated on the meu, which he wasn't too happy about as he hates the taste of salad and doesn't like this touching other elements of his meal. This really should have been stated on the menu that it came with salad so that he could have asked for it without and it wouldn't have gone to waste. I personally feel they give a huge portion o salad to try and make up for the fact they are only giving one slice of bread/toast to make it look like you are getting better value than you are really, when salad cost next to nothing. I popped in on Saturday at about 12.30 as one of a group of about 12. It was half full so we were able to sit at a couple of tables out the front. Check in: Had NO heating working or hot water on arrival ( was told it should be up & running shortly) only had a plug in radiator in room which we had on all night & was still cold! Didn't want to use shower as was too cold & couldn't get the hot water so if needed to get ready to go out this wouldn't be possible. Problem still on going when we left so the entire building is freezing cold! There are 2 parts to the building, Rooms 3- 10 apparently more spooky than other rooms so we were given Room 4 for this reason. Rooms: Very spooky, out dated, full of dust & cobwebs, cracks & broken walls etc. Can clearly see no work has been done for comfort. Was reluctant to get into bed as felt dirty & was obviously so cold! Smelt smoke throughout building Ghosts: We weren't lucky enough to witness any paranormal activity, walking about hotel is difficult at night as ALL floorboards creak so felt awkward & didn't want to disturb anyone, lights were on all night in hallways etc so didn't get the right vibes anyway. Building itself had character & felt creepy but noise from outside ( nightclubs opposite) & shouting from other guests ruined it anyway! The only bonus was a good chat with the gent who served us about his ghost stories! All in all hugely disappointing & unless you are either drunk or only want to try & see ghosts, DONT stay here

The staff that I spoke to were polite and helpful. They have a very large carpark. I shall be returning to this lovely garden center

When it was my turn to be (eventually) be served I asked for the staff to take the disabled woman's drink first. The miserable look was to kill from the member of staff. Very, very poor Costa - a damage to the already under-fire brand.
