Probably the best spot to relax after a walk in Manuel Antonio. There is rocks there everywhere so be careful and I really recommend bringing those rock shoes. It isn't that far away and has very warm water and almost no waves compared to the Escondido beach which is another beach in Manuel Antonio. We had an amazing time at Playa Espadilla Norte in Quepos during our May visit. This stunning beach offered the perfect balance—waves that were exciting yet manageable, though it's important to stay vigilant as Costa Rican beaches can have powerful rip tides.

We booked Mulguri Waterfalls on December. We are a Family of 2 Adults and 2 Kids. The experience was incredible, they take You in to a Small town Up in to the mountains, on the way there was a lot of nature and clean spring water everywhere. The staff is so friendly and warm, the rooms ("golf ball" we ended up calling it) are unique and fun, the pool was almost always vacant with a warm temperature, and the best part is the access to the beautiful beach; maybe a 90 second walk from the lobby/restaurant.
Be aware that this is a very small "resort" though! Just a couple "igloos" and the small restaurant that doubles as the lobby/bar. My sister-in-law just returned from a week-long stay at the Igloo. We were disappointed at first that the pool was closed for maintenance, but we were offered discounts for lunch, and we found no need for the pool as the beautiful and surprisingly warm ocean was just steps away. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. The first red flag should have been when during checking in no one asked for our IDs, major security concern there. Whoever checked us in didn’t seem to caring about explaining to us about the hotel and clearly he doesn’t like his job. When we got to our rooms we could tell they haven’t been well kept. The property itself is just okay, there is nothing special about this place at all. I would never stay here again. The concept seems cool but you can tell it’s not being properly looked after. It was a huge disappointment. We ended up leaving early because my friend and I couldn’t stand to be in this place another second.

I dont even know where to begin.
The concept of this establishment is cool and I can see the vision. Unfortunately it is falsely advertised on its main page and third party websites. Online presentation is a lot cleaner and inviting that the reality in person.
Upon arrival we were checked in by a man who showed us our room without any verification that we were who we said we were or confirmation of our identification as foreign travelers. Maybe the idea is to be laid back, I found this to be unprofessional.
The igloo is unimpressive. A concrete orb with barely anything on the inside. The room is incredibly bare. So bare our television was missing a remote. I also found the ammentities to be sloppy and cheap. The towels had stains and our glasses were dirty. The dome shape created an annoying echoing. For the cost of the room and the expenses of a hotel that saves a lot in energy I am impressed at how cheap everything felt.
A note on my missing remote, I couldn't find anyone at the front desk to help me.
I wish I had read the previous reviews because many of them were spot on and I would not have stayed here.
I left two days early.
The only nice thing about this place are the animals that reside in the lobby area (a cat and dog) as well as the sweet cleaner lady.

It’s important to know that the real entrance to the national park is further ahead. There is free street parking and other private lots. Do not pay more than $10 USD for parking. Once past the security checkpoint, you have access to paid lockers and can hire certified guides directly without falling victim to high-pressure tactics and incomplete service.
This experience left us feeling deceived and frustrated. Don’t make the same mistake we did. Keep driving past this fake “Welcome Center” and go directly to the official entrance.

I don’t agree that this is a scam. Normal big comfy parking, costs 10$. But at least you don’t leave your car next to a road. Great parking location. Kind park employees- bathrooms subpar (same as everywhere else) we ended up getting a guide at the parking lot for $100 U.S. (online it was $70 a person). We had lunch here five out of six days and some after beach. Cozy tables by the cove with palm trees and greenery, upstairs with a view of the beach.
We tried several different dishes and everything was delicious. Fruit smoothie amazingly good!

Our hotel, La Vela Boutique, gave us two coupons for this restaurant which we wanted to use and had know idea what was in store for us. It is architecturally beautiful open air restaurant. Clean and well groomed. Our server was attentive and excited we were dining with them. Helpful to assist us selecting our meals. Happy hour is from 5-7pm, half off their drinks which made them super affordable about $3 a drink. The bartender was superb and very friendly! All the drinks we ordered tasted so good! I had a wonderful private tour of Manuel Antonio. My guide Karen was very knowledgeable. She shared information on the animals, birds, insects and lizards we saw. Edwin was simply amazing!! He was so knowledgeable. He asked what we wanted to see and he checked everything off our list. If you are wondering if you should hire a guide, you absolutely should!! We wouldn't have seen most things without Edwin's eye. We were able to see an anteater, sloths (3 and 4 toed), howler monkeys, white faced monkeys, a snake, crabs, bats and many plant species. Edwin uses the periscope but then his phone so everyone in the group can see everything all at the same time. He expertly navigated all the phases of the beginning of our tour such as locating toilets, getting us quickly and calmly through the entrance checkpoint, and explaining how the spotting scope works. The place in Costa Rica we saw the most wild life. From bats, to monkeys, to sloths and iguanas. I really recommend you to get a guide though, they know in which places you can spot certain animals. As they have the equipment to get a nice view on some wildlife so it's well worth the money.
You can't take any food or beverage inside but there's a cafeteria inside the park. Just be advised that it can be a long wait on peak lunch hours.
Finally, the beaches at the end of the hike are gorgeous as well and less touristy than the main Manuel Antonio one.

The park did not impress me much, I expected a bit more. There are very few animals. We arrived before the opening at 7am, and this is the best time! Do not come later.
It is very rare to spot a sloth without binoculars. We saw two very high up in the trees and only one in a good view. There are lots of capuchins and they are adorable.

Beautiful secluded beach. We were told it was nude-friendly although there weren’t any completely naked people here when we went. A bit of a hike to get there, so make sure you have comfortable hiking shoes, especially for the last part of the hike to the beach. From the sign in the picture, you can drive down a little farther (an SUV or vehicle with 4-wheel drive is recommended). There is a point on the trail where you can’t drive any farther. We did see a couple on a motorbike with wheels with good tread on them make it all the way to the point where the steep hike to the beach starts, but most people hike on foot the whole way. The hiking trail splits, so make sure you make a right to go to La Macha beach. Before going down the steep trail, there is a pathway on the left that has a nice overlook of the ocean. We accidentally went that way before going down the trail to the beach. You know you’re on the right trail when we see the ropes that help you get down to the beach. This part of the trail is VERY steep (flip flops not recommended). I was wearing Chacos the whole hike. Once you get down to the beach, enjoy the peace and calm. No vendors here. Every group we saw kept to themselves. If you want a quiet and secluded beach and don’t mind the hike to get there, this beach is definitely worth the trip. This beach is incredibly stunning and secluded. As many have mentioned, reaching it involves quite a challenging hike. If you're accustomed to moderate hikes in North America, you should manage just fine. However, be warned if you plan to hike in extreme heat. It was 36 degree the day of the hike, and my partner almost passed out on the way back up. Bring plenty of water and limit the time spent under the sun.
It's worth mentioning, though, despite some reviews suggesting otherwise, I doubt this beach is clothing optional. There were no signs indicating such, and all visitors during my time there were fully clothed. Getting a guide in this national park is really recommendable - and we had one of the best with Aaron! He was really great, listened to our wishes and found a lot of animals about which he had great knowledge. It’s really difficult to find the animals by yourself and even if you do, you won't be able to see them as clearly as with the guides telescope which is really cool.
The park was a little crowded in some main paths but you can also find quiet corners and overall it's an incredibly beautiful place that I would recommend everyone to visit (and don't forget your swimwear to enjoy that incredible beachs!).

My husband and I had an absolutely phenomenal experience with our tour guide at Manuel Antonio National Park. We came to the park not planning on getting a guide, but decided at the last minute to hire one and we are SO glad we did. It is worth every penny! We lucked out and it was just the 2 of us with the guide. He gave us the best tour ever- he spotted all of the wildlife, even the smallest and most hidden things! If it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t have seen the things we did. He even took photos through his scope for us. He was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the flora and fauna in the park, as well as the history. He was full of wonderful facts. He went to school for this so he is a true trained professional. Any questions we had, he had an answer to. He gave us his full attention and effort. Not only is he knowledgeable in his field, he was also friendly, funny and easy to chat with. We were able to spot white faced monkeys, howler monkeys, two toed and three toed sloths, crabs, toucans, iguanas, deer, bats, birds, mushrooms, and bugs!
I highly recommend to anyone coming to the park to book a guide with the park! Wait till you get inside to hire your guide. Don’t bother with outside companies. It was a 2 hour tour and he fit in so much for us.

We had a great experience with this tour at Manuel Antonio Park. Originally, we tried to book with an outside tour company, but they were sold out for the day. We decided to try to find a guide after arriving at the park and I'm really glad it worked out that way. However, make sure to go inside the park to the booth that is to the right of security to find the official guides. The official tour group accommodated our family of 5 immediately and it was a fantastic experience. We were lucky to have Andre as our guide. He is a biologist and was able to spot animals in many places that we would have completely missed. In fact, except for the iguana on the path, we wouldn't have seen anything without Andre's expert eye. He was very knowledgeable about the plants and animals within the park and nature in general. There wasn't a question of ours that he couldn't answer, and the pictures he took of the animals for us turned out beautifully. I highly recommend going through the official guides for a tour and definitely suggest asking for Andre!

We decided to book the official guided tour, which was a bit hard to find on their website, but it was absolutely worth it. Nicole was an excellent, enthusiastic, and friendly guide, who went out of her way to give us the best experience we could ask for. What a great day!
You need to buy your tickets a day or more prior to arrival. Know the rules to get in. They will take your plastic bottles, plastic bags, food, and sugar packets. Know the location of the official parking. Lots of people trying to get you to park on the beach a distance from the park entrance. Parking is $10. Tickets come with a timed entry with a 40 minute window. There is a long line to get in: a security check followed by ticket check. Tours and individuals are all in the same line. You can sign up for a tour on arrival. Expect a lot of tour hustlers trying to sign you up for a tour just after the ticket booth.
Even if you aren’t in a group, you’ll know where to stop to see the animals. The tour operators all stop at the same places to see the wildlife. They have scopes for better views, but I don’t feel like we missed much going on our own. There is a restaurant and gift shop at the trail junction. We had planned to eat there since we couldn’t bring food in. However, the lines were long with only 2 people working so we gave up.
Just up the hill is a set of toilets. When we were there, only 1 toilet stall was working in the women’s room. If those have long lines, 5 minutes down the path is another set of toilets. This one has 2 toilets and 2 changing rooms, although 1 of the changing rooms doesn’t have a door.
As you continue down the hill, there’s a beach on the left. Further down is a beach on the right. The water is calmer at the beach to the left and there’s more afternoon shade.
The trails are well marked and well maintained. Some of them do require a bit of climbing. There are alot of places to refill your water along the trails. You do not need a guide to see the monkeys and iguanas - they are all over the place – along the trail and at the beach. They know how to open backpacks. We saw a monkey come down from the trees and start to open someone’s backpack before it was chased away. You cannot leave your stuff on the beach near the trees or it will get stolen by the monkeys! The park closes at 4p. Park rangers clear the beaches at 3.
The day was lovely here. We had an 8am timed entry ticket. We got to see lots of wildlife in the morning. After about 4 hours of hiking, we settled on to the beach for several hours. It was a great way to cool off from the heat and humidity. This is a great park but expect LOTS of people.

The park was nice but getting into it was very stressful.
We did not know that one needed to book the tickets on-line in advance. We walked to the park. The multiple scammers on the way to the park stopped us, where the sign said 1km to go. With urgency on their faces and voices, they directed us to the "booking table to buy the tickets". They wanted "$60 per person to enter the park with a guide from the beach side" instead of $16 dollars per person, that you pay on-line. The internet reception in the area was very poor so we struggled to book the tickets on-line, but succeeded at the end. The booking website required creation of an account and was looking for the passport numbers but you could enter any 6 numbers, that you liked.
We visited many parks in Costa Rica. This was the only one, where they did not allow to bring water and any food into the park. You could buy the food, water and other drinks in a cafe inside the park at very high prices. We paid $6 for a locker at the park entrance to leave out water and snacks in. We really needed those on the way out of the park.
The beach inside the park was very nice with quiet waters. It also had toilets and showers near by, which we did not see at other beaches in Costa Rica.
Costa Rica prides themselves as a prosperous country. We found the prices on food, travel, accommodation, entrance tickets, mobile internet same or higher than in EU, so I don't think "it's a poor country". In many places they only accept cash which probably helps the citizens to remain prosperous.

Bring water! This is a nice hike to get away from the crowds, and to get to a beach that you may just have to yourself. Using All Trails, I walked to the trailhead from my hotel in Quepos with little problem. The trailhead is marked fairly well. You will be surrounded by nature from the get go. We walked from the main road down Calle Parador to catch the trail to Playa Biesanz. Nice calm cove. Snorkeling equipment rental was poor quality and not much to see. Paddleboards also available. A bathroom there for $1. From there we took the trail to Playa Sonia. Great waves. A bar there as well, and a private road that led up to a hotel. We then hiked to Playa Tulemar. We loved this beach. It is a little remote and requires a hike to get to. The views are great! The beach is nice and the water is in a bit of a cove so there's waves but they're not huge. There are vendors renting chairs and coverings as well as fresh made drinks that are great. There's even a lady giving massages under a tent up on the rocks directly overlooking the beach which we didn't try. No one is too pushy but are all friendly. The only downside is there's a decent amount of rocks out in the water if you wear water shoes or sandals it's fine. Barefoot was a bit tough on my tender feet .

It only takes about five minutes to walk down the rocky path to the beach. It wasn't too busy when we went, and we were able to rent chairs and order delicious piña coladas from the bar. They have snorkels, kayaks, and paddle boards able to rent, and there was a woman giving massages under a tent. We also saw lots of monkeys in the trees.

Made a last minute plan for this. Only 2 hr zip line available in the area, other options are 4 hr+ because driving time is 1 hr + one way (as told by others, I didnt try those). Pickup was swift. My guide Charlie made me comfortable and guided me throughout the zipline in the 9 lines, 1 rope based activity to get down by waterfall. Charlie also shared good info. about flora and fauna. We thank Miguel and his wife for the hospitality at their apiary and home today. We learned about the fascinating life and history of bees, hiked 5-10 minutes to the hives, put on our bee keeper suits and visited the bees. The previous day had been rainy so the trail was a bit muddy, but Miguel hosed our shoes off when we returned. Carlos and his team were fantastic hosts during our ATV tour!
Most of the tour is spent riding around a palm oil plantation. About midway through the trip, the group takes a stop at Rainmaker for a short hike (~1 mile total) with the option to jump a small waterfall. It was a blast!
You have the option of riding solo or double, although the ATVs appear to be the same regardless of your choice.
One of the hosts, Diego, does a great job capturing photos during the entire trip. You have the option to purchase at the end for a very reasonable price. The purchase includes every photo you’re in which for us was about 60 photos. They are shared with you via Google photos.
You end the trip with a traditional Costa Rican meal. It was delicious!

What can I say, this was a 10/10 experience! Well worth the money! They picked us up from our hotel on time, then travelled around 25mins to the place where we ride the quad bikes. We had the tour guide called Oscar who was great fun and really friendly, he gave us a test ride on the quad bikes before hand they are really easy to use! We had a 2 person quad bike which was great fun to be able to have a laugh together on it and share the driving. We drove for around 40mins to a stop off where we were given a snack and water, then walked around 5mins to the waterfall where some people on the trip had a little jump in, then walked back to the bikes after around 25mins maybe. As we were sharing a quad bike we changed who drove back the way back so we both got to have ago, the drive back was a slightly shorter ride but was still a good amount of driving, oscar took us through different kind of terrain, we had ago at driving through water which was a great laugh! Once we arrived back at the start point, we were given a very delicious dinner and ice tea drink, the chicken rice was one of the best rice's I've ever had! - this experience was one of the best things I've done on holiday, I highly recommend this activity!

Great outdoor tour to do with the family. This atv adventure in Manuel Antonio was our favorite activity, we spent the day in the mountains riding through local small towns and we got to see a different side of Costa Rica. We also saw monkeys and birds. The water temperature is ideal for swimming at the waterfalls. Excellent customer service.

Oscar and Carlos were our guides. I can’t say enough good things about them. Very friendly and kind. Shared a lot of useful knowledge with us. We had the best time with them riding the Atv through the rain forest and palm farms to the waterfalls. This excursion gives you an authentic experience of Costa Rica. So glad we did this! Literally booked it an hour before they picked us up. Super quick and easy. They drove us 30 mins to the spot, we took the four wheelers into the jungle and to a hiking spot, parked and went on a short hike to see the water falls! Pretty easy hike. After the hike we got fresh fruit and snacks. Then drove the four wheelers back through the jungle to their camp where we could change into dry clothes and they fed us lunch! Highly recommend! Was nice bc there wasn’t too many other people with us, just a family of four and another lady + the guides

This was an amazing experience. We took our 9 and 11 year old kids and we all had a blast. They pick you up from your hotel/airbnb and drive you out to a private farm. Safety run through and then off you go as a group. A quick beautiful hike where our guide showed us some plants and animals we saw. Then a really fun muddy ride back foe some lunch. I wish we were able to swim in the waterfall that day but it was too fast to get in. All the staff are friendly and fun. Great e peri ce, highly recommend.
