Gorgeous views and scenery. At least three hiking trails to choose from. Slow, easy drive uphill. Climb the steps for nice views of Denver, the Golden flat tops and the surrounding mountains and wildflowers. Bring water and a hat. as it does get very hot in the summer. We were there on an overcast afternoon and caught some great shots of the ominous rain clouds. There’s a museum and nature center nearby we’ll visit in the future, but easily doable on the same trip if you’re not in a hurry.

I've been coming here for years and it's a popular spot but never too crowded to enjoy a little solitude. Some of the best views of Boulder, Denver, etc and Eastern Colorado that you're going to get without a park pass or driving an hour further into the mountains. The nature center and forest loop trail was a great place to go with two little ones. The trail was a 0.5 mile loop that took us 20 mins and the nature center had lots of fun kid activities. This trail is not as difficult as others would lead you to believe. Although there were definitely some parts where you had to scramble, I would say there were only a couple instances where it was a low class two. If you're there for hiking, you'll be fine. I can see needing trekking poles if you are hiking in winter. Otherwise this was really a wonderful hike with some fun scrambling. Be careful if you have bad hips or knees. No shade. Plan ahead. Saw tons of lizards, and really cool beetles. Can't wait to do it again!

Dakota Ridge Trail has a sign at the trailhead that rates it “most difficult” with a black diamond. I would not let this scare you away if you are willing to take your time and can deal with the rollercoaster elevation ups and downs.
While much of the trail can be exposed to direct sun and hot, an earlier morning start will offer shade in many areas while the sun is in the east. There is a big parking lot so you can drive up, park, walk about 5 minutes to Buffalo Bill's grave, and then visit the museum or gift shop for an ice cream break. Went here on a Friday when they opened at 9a. It was very fun. We walked the whole thing and even did the lookout path (which is worth it). Kids had a ton of fun seeing the fossils. Real dinosaur footprints - lots of them! Visiting this site deeply touched the child in me......I am actually a woman "of a certain age". Most visitors we saw were small children with their parents. Such a shame! Everyone should have this experience. It was 95 degrees and my iPhone camera kept overheating. But I still caught a few good shots.
We took the tour guide led bus tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgable, fun, and still adores the dino tracks. She did an excellent job of explaining what we were seeing, which included the obvious tracks, some tracks that were much harder to identify, and some embedded fossil dinosaur bones that might easily have been overlooked.
Easy to reach, even by Lyft or Uber. Easy parking. A lovely, small visitor center staffed by eager volunteers. A fun gift shop with reasonably priced tee shirts and small fossils.
Others can choose to hike up the ridge.....but were glad to have a cool seat and copious water (we each brought 2 bottle) even on the bus.

The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and I ended up taking the bus tour and the guide really knew her stuff! My experience here was wonderful with one exception. I'd like to suggest when people visit, reverence in the public areas should be remembered. After climbing the steps to the statue and shrine I was anxious to sit and take everything in along with saying prayers. Sadly my plan was spoiled by a very loud family who obviously felt this was a party atmosphere. Standing near the steps, laughing loudly, talking loudly and kids running all over. Frankly it took away from the tranquility that I had expected. I understand people wish to talk and maybe not be there for prayer but it can be done quietly as to not disturb those of us there spiritually.
Other than this disappointing experience, the rest of my visit was wonderful. The chapel, well/spring and grotto were peaceful, tranquil and beautiful.
The gift shop was well stocked and the clerk was helpful and friendly.

I needed a pick me up on the way down from a wedding in the mountains, and we stopped into Windy Saddle Cafe. over Labor Day weekend(!) and they were packed- both inside and outside. The line moved quickly and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. There were people of all ages and walks of life, lots of laughter and it looked like the kind of place where everyone is welcome. I tasted my first sip and was overjoyed when I found out that they were serving my favorite espresso EVER by Kaladi Coffee. If I lived close by I would go there every day. They have dairy and gluten free food options, a play area for kids, adorbs store merch and a cute little library. Not to mention the perfect location to take a picture under the Golden arch and it's a block away from the creek. Came here after a tour at Dinosaur Ridge. Parking is a little weird but we found it. Well maintained gravel path with a few railroad tie steps along the way. We did have a stroller and managed ok. Now the trail does not loop around and goes directly into the golf course so you have to just turn around. There is limited shade and no bathrooms. This trail is an out-and-back trail of about a half-mile. It leads to some late Cretacous impression fossils that include footprint casts of Triceratops (or potentially Torosaurus) and Tyranosaurus as well as duck-billed dinosaurs. While not nearly as spectacular as the trackways at dinosaur ridge they are worth the trip nonetheless. There are also trace fossils of palm fronds, leaves, and invertebrates. The trail does connect to the golf course, but there is no easy return to the trailhead and parkinglot from the course.

Very cool trail! It's in Golden, right off 6th and 19th. You park in the parking lot right off 6th and it's a short walk to the start of the trail. The trail itself is only half mile or so each way. You can see rain droplets, trex foot prints, triceratops footprints and leaf impressions too. The end of it is right at the golf course. Beautiful views of golden and north table. Definitely check it out!

It's a decent walk, if you're looking to stretch your legs, but not if you're looking for any kind of a workout or an educational experience.
Parking is from the paid lot adjacent to the School of Mines campus, it's about $1/hour, which is par for the area. From there, you can walk to the trailhead (~1/4 mile). The trailhead is easy to spot.
The trail is an easy, short out-and-back with a few points of interest along the way, including a few imprints of possible dinosaur feet, small animals and plants as well as a clay mine, and some unique sculpture to commemorate the geological overlook. I think the trail guides overreach on the appeal of all of these points.
If you take this trail for what it is - a nice walk, it's exactly that, and you'll surely have a good time.
