They have a great attention to detail with a smattering of little freebies in the rooms like dental set (toothbrush etc) sewing kit/ mouthwash, amongst other very useful little items. We stayed at The Laindons in November when we 'eloped' to Hastings to get married at the register office, just the two of us. We booked the Yellow Room here for two nights because it looked nice online and the reviews were good. We expected a nice room and hopefully a nice breakfast. But we received such kind and welcoming care from Karen, which made our day, and our whole stay, so very very special.  We can't compliment Karen and The Laindons highly enough. Karen was on hand when we arrived, much too early, to help with all of our stuff. She gave excellent recommendations of local services when we needed it. She helped us to manage the day when the storm arrived and threatened to derail the afternoon. Karen was the best host who went the extra mile and helped our wedding day to be even more special. The b&b itself is of the best quality. The bed and bedding are sumptuous. The extra touches, such as the room's refreshments and mini bar were generous, as well as the quality toiletries in the bathroom. The menu for breakfast was a real treat - three courses, cooked and presented perfectly using quality ingredients. The guest lounge is a fabulous space with books to peruse, a huge sofa and a well curated honesty bar and fireplace. The location is perfect for Hastings Old Town. It's a great base to explore the town from and easy to pop back to pick things up or drop your shopping off. I was travelling alone and felt safe the whole time. I don't drive and this was a good location to explore the town on foot. It's about 15 minutes walk from the station and then once you're at the hotel, you're right by all the nicest stuff. The room was super clean and I'm really picky about hotels, but was instantly comfortable here, even to walk in the room barefoot. The bathroom was HUGE and the rooms come with everything you need, plenty of towels etc. There's even a little fridge so you can have fresh milk and chilled water in the main room. The breakfasts were really lovely and the hosts were fab, so that was a great way to start the day. I had both veggie and meat breakfasts during my stay - the veggie breakfast was great and really nice, but the bacon was seriously something else. Very very good. There was quite loud music from the bar next door on one night, but it was good music (live jazz, I think the singer is a bit of a local legend!) and it ended by 11. Next time I might check ahead to try and watch the show! Apart from that, it's pretty quiet and peaceful, I didn't hear anything from the other rooms even though there were other guests in. The rooms have everything you need, big comfy beds, enough space and in our case a sea view. There's off street parking and you are right next to the beach and town. What's particularly great about this place are the people, the team here are welcoming, professional, the place has a friendly, relaxed and casual atmosphere ideal for just chillin. The food too is really great value for money, ample portions, great quality and uncomplicated. In a world of bland corporate hotels this place is (like many independently own places) a tonic. It has just what you really need, clean rooms, comfy bed, WiFi and none of what you don't really need. So yes you won't earn club points, there's no crappy gym and the staff aren't uniformed but who really asked for any of that anyway? Theres a telephone number for the actual front desk, you can call and speak to a human to make a booking it's just like it should be, no complicate rules or upselling. We flew from Dublin to visit family. There is a launderette at the bottom of the road which was so handy. Overall,since the programme aired this b & b has lost its 5star sparkle & just feels like the enthusiasm has wained.In an advertised 5 star establishment I don't think the owners dogs walking around the breakfast room is offering the high standard the b & b say they give.The owner is a lovely lady,the staff are friendly & efficent but detail in cleaning throughout & replenishment of amenities is lacking......especially for £180 a night.

The house has been renovated to a very high standard and Derval and David are incredibly warm and inviting hosts. I lost count of the offers of tea, coffee, and freshly baked scones and cake we were offered as we snuggled up in front of the log burner in the sitting room after a blustery walk along St Leonards promenade! We stayed in the Markwick room with the huge bathroom and the bath and shower did not disappoint! Made even more luxurious with underfloor heating and warm fluffy towels and bathrobes. Tons of hot water, bath salts and shower gel all provided. The beds are all super king with medium firm pocket sprung mattresses and have high quality bed linen AND electric blankets! That is certainly a first for a stay away from home for me and very much appreciated on a cold stormy February night! Derval provides the most wonderful breakfasts including homemade granola, platters of fresh fruit salad, creamy local yogurt infused with crushed berries, buttery croissants, fresh coffee, and hot breakfast options. The standard of the food was some of the best I have ever tasted, and it is all included within the very reasonable room rates. The thing which really stood out though, renovation and food aside, is Derval and David. They are so clearly natural hosts and love being around people and seeing the house come alive with their guests. It’s also evident they love their fairly recent move to St Leonards and have so many wonderful recommendations on where to go and places to eat in the evening all within a 10-minute stroll from The Knowle.
