The work desk isn't good for working. The coffee and tea is in the cupboard nowhere near the electric point so you have to move the machine around the room to make tea or coffee. When I asked for milk with my tea, she brought oat milk. Food wasn't served together either which I would expect for this level of hotel. The floor gets very wet, so no slippers. So its a tight space when compared to European spas. The outdoor jacuzzi and hydro pool is only ok if its not raining. Not outside covering. Can't say i would return too quickly. Vicinity to park is awesome and its a 20 min stroll to town which is also good.

I booked a superior double and the room was smaller than previous stays, it was dark as we were looking at a brick wall, i did check with reception when we checked in to make sure it was a superior and the very unfriendly receptionist advised me it was. there was black mould in the bathroom, the bathroom sliding door didnt close properly and the bathrobe was ripped, not to mention air conditioning not working properly. We had a "deal" which included a 2 course dinner for 2. I have eaten in the restaurant previously and always enjoyed the food, I was really hungry so looking forward to my meal. The restaurant had an event on, we were in the library (no semblance of a library and completely soulless) the food was very disappointing and had 2 members of staff very overwhelmed. I had filet steak which was tasteless and my partner had a ribeye which he questioned if indeed it was ribeye, we ended up going to the hotel next door for drinks and to cheer us up! Sadly after this experience I won't be returning, the one night stay was £450, which for what we experienced was grossly overpriced. Reception gave me £50 off my bill when I showed them the photos of the mould and the dressing gown. We skipped the breakfast which was part of the deal as guests told us how poor the service was and we had enough at that stage and just wanted to leave. Sadly it has gone downhill, which is such a shame.

The hotel area however was really disappointing, we were in room 10 where the toilet seat was broken when we arrived and the toilet continued to flush or at least release water from the cistern every 30 minutes or so throughout the night. We were told about the first night therefore was prepared but two nights in a row not getting to sleep until after midnight is exhausting. Overall a beautiful quiant, boutiquey hotel with a strong history and stunning location. The staff were super friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Curtis who was helping at our work event and was so kind and brought us lots of extra chairs at our request with no bother what so ever. He was really polite and helpful. The lift was out of order which meant staying at room 202 right by the entrance to the corriader of the 2nd floor and by the stairs I was in for a super disturbed 2nd night, with patters of foot steps constantly waking me up, late into the night & early morning. Also the walls are quite thin I imagine as it's an old building so you can completely hear the whole phone convo your neighbour is having and get woken up by their wake up calls too. Also the way the bathroom areas are set up in the rooms, the water spills over to the toilet area which is super annoying and takes a while to dry. I was really careful to close the shower door properly and even placed the towel mat on the floor but it still happened. Lastly, for how high end it is I was disappointed not to have any moisturiser in the bathroom/room even though there was moisturiser in the ladies toilets near the restaurant. Including it in the rooms would align nicely with the hotel’s high-end, luxury feel. I'm currently choosing a hotel for my next trip to Richmond in a few weeks, if the Richmond Hill can take my well intended feedback on board, it will be a strong contender and I'll be sure to recommend it.

Despite being near a big road I had no noise issues, and there were no noise issues from other guests. Main complaint would be that while I usually enjoy a firm bed, the ones here did give me a sore back after a while and I had to switch sleeping positions. The furnishings were also a bit shabby with peeling veneer, so could do with a bit of an update. If you need a cheap room and you're not too fussed, you can do a lot worse.
