We enjoyed a quiet weekday in the city. Several floors to explore. We went while they were in between exhibits so there wasn't anything in the large main display area near the staircases, but we still enjoyed checking out all of the art. We went to see The Armory South collection exhibit. It is amazing to see the works that were on display 100 years ago. We also loved the Rauschenberg pieces in the lobby gallery. MOCA is such a treasure to have in Jax. All the exhibitions were very nicely curated. There are even fun murals in the stairwells. Five stars!

Outstanding small modern art museum in downtown Jacksonville. The collection of local, curated Jacksonville artists is outstanding. Thoroughly enjoyed the recreation of the 1924 Jacksonville women’s club exhibit of early modern American art. Paintings from that exhibit have been gathered from some of America’s greatest art institutions. The museum is one floor and gorgeous. When I went, there was live music which was pleasantly surprising! At first I wasn't going to walk the gardens, but I had time and I'm glad I did! We had a great time visiting the MOSH in Jacksonville! There’s so much to learn and explore here — definitely a place where both kids and adults can enjoy and take something away. One of the highlights of our visit was the “Skies Over Jacksonville” planetarium show. It was such an amazing experience — super informative and really well done. We learned so much!

If you’re hoping for a screen-free, engaging family outing, I would not recommend MOSH. During my visit, I was disappointed by the overall condition of the museum, which seemed poorly maintained. Many signs and displays were visibly worn out or falling apart, which gave the impression of neglect.
The animal exhibits were limited to a few creatures, including several turtles, a lizard, a small owl, and a pigeon. I was especially excited for the “Touch Tank” experience, but it turned out to be a letdown. After walking around in circles trying to find it, I eventually stumbled upon a small, empty tank surrounded by barriers. There was no signs saying when it would be back in use and the tank itself was not toddler-friendly as it was positioned too high off the ground.
I had also looked forward to the “Creation Station,” imagining it would be a creative space for children. However, it was disappointing to find no art supplies at all—just a few old Christmas decorations still up (despite it being almost April), a small pile of Duplo Legos, a poorly made shape sorter with chipped paint, and a lone puzzle. It wasn’t at all what I expected.
Upstairs, the atmosphere felt chaotic, akin to an arcade with numerous screen-based activities. And the history section was just ok. While I personally didn’t mind the history section with its few artifacts and lots of reading material, my children were uninterested. The lack of interactive displays beyond the screens made it difficult for them to engage.
Additionally, the museum's facilities were problematic. The bathrooms were closed when I first arrived, though they eventually reopened. The building itself felt very hot, with only the lobby and gift shop offering any relief via air conditioning. The elevator had an unpleasant burnt rubber smell, and the third floor was completely closed off.
Outside, there’s a small pond with a lone turtle, but this didn’t make up for the overall lack of activities. My toddler was bored within an hour, and I would recommend this museum more for older children who might better appreciate the screen exhibits.

My toddler and elementary aged kiddos loved it here! The staff was friendly and while we didn’t play on it, the indoor playground (5 and under) looked very nice! Other than that area, though, it was all pretty run down at best and kinda janky in others. Either way, the kids couldn’t tell the difference and the older learned or brushed up on a lot of science!
We took advantage of the EBT/WIC discount and got $3 entry for myself, free for one kid and then my toddler was free all the time.

An unfortunate waste of money. Unless the Dinosaur Exhibit is in town, there’s no justification to pay $88 for two adults and two children under 10. Seeing the entire museum took less than an hour and it was stifling and musty the entire time. The third floor was completely closed off, so we didn’t even have access to the whole museum. The only interactive children’s area, the “Creation Station” seems like an afterthought with building blocks and play structures with missing pieces (as pictured). Our 4 year old was disengaged and bored…there’s only so much excitement that shells and old artifacts can create. The one positive was the live animal room where we got to see two owls, two birds, and a handful of turtles. The local history was enjoyable and interesting, but again, doesn’t feel like enough to satisfy all ages. I truly hope that the new location will include a revamp of this museum, our city deserves it. We need to keep our youth in mind and create a more interactive experience, especially if you’re going to charge us like it.

We had a great time on a Sunday, arriving at opening. Parking lot was already starting to get be filled and when we left, it was families coming and going as we went. The actual museum as you can see from the many pictures and some video taken to be shared has much to been seen. That was with an entire 3rd floor closed this day and something closed off in hiding being made on 2nd. So there is much excitement for future visit. Learning everything from dinosaurs, space, establishment of Florida and the United States through out the years and so much more. It is a very awesome and interesting museum with a small zoo!!

We spent about an hour walking around the plantation grounds!
A lot of history here!Today Friday 15th Tony Vanoy and I explored the McIntosh Sugar Mill Tabby Ruins near St Mary's GA . It's free to enjoy and explore. There is a private parking lot and picnic tables BUT BE WARNED we experienced a ton of mosquitos! So BUGGIE SPRAY the Heck out of your exposed body parts! I got ate up and so did Tony!
It's much larger than it looks from the parking lot! There's a Historical marker available to read about the previous owner dates and Plantation name!

We were returning from visiting Cumberland Island NP and drove past the sign for The Kingsley Plantation. We turned around and drove down a long dirt road to see what this site was about. When we got there we were surprised to find a Plantation with park rangers and displays talking about the history of this place. This was a fascinating place to spend some time and look at some amazing pieces of history. There was something for everyone here; when we went there was a collection of artifacts and papers relating to the Cuban Revolution, Castro, and Che Guevara that was really neat to look at along with a collection of local art focused on literary horror. I never knew such a beautiful preserve even existed, much less was in such close proximity to my home. I came alone and was greeted by a king woman in the visitor center who offered to answer any questions I had. The 2 entrances Spanish Pond (red) and Theodore Roosevelt (blue) are 1.7 miles apart using the fastest route. The scenic trail (black) is a loop that takes you to a beautiful beachy peninsula with a raised viewing platform. I walked from the spanish pond trailhead to the Roosevelt trailhead and then almost all of the scenic trail loop and finished back at my starting point with 4.1 miles total in 1 hour 20 minites. This trail system is very well marked with maps along the trail. There are also a lot of benches along the way and theyre placed very nicely in front of some gorgeous oaks. The trail is pretty wide and for the most part can walk 2x. It does get skinnier on the black scenic loop but is only for a short part. This is a very worthwhile hike.

Visited on an exceptionally hot day (96°F). Had a great time talking with the park rangers. They are so knowledgeable about Timucuan and other NPS sites.
The museum outlined the ecology of the area, what was known about the Timucuan through historical accounts and archeological digs, and successive waves of European invaders to the northern Florida area. There was seating and clean restrooms available. There is a nice overlook with seating behind the museum of the river.

This place is wonderful! Me and my adult age daughter wanted to get some steps in and figured we’d give this place a shot. It was so peaceful and the landscape was beautiful. A Florida rainstorm had just moved through and dropped buckets of rain, so we didn’t venture through all the wooded paths, but we did do almost all of it. There’s goats and chickens and pigs and alligators and also an indoor space with some snakes and turtles. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back when it’s sunny. We had such a great time at Tree Hill Nature Center! It’s a hidden gem, especially for families with little ones. My kids loved feeding the goats and were thrilled to pet the turtles. The place was fantastic for a multitude of age groups on the younger side. I would say 10 and under. It's not super fancy pancy or brand new stuff but the kids loved it. There was so much for them to do, so much variety. My only complaint was that it was a little warm in there. Some ceiling fans or such would be a nice addition. Cute little place for little ones. I took my 3 year old nephew on a Saturday morning hoping to beat a potential rush. Would not recommend as everyone had the same idea. It cleared out around one so next time we'll come around that time. There were plenty of activities and attractions to keep him entertained and he can't stop talking about his time at the "blue castle." His favorite stops were the basketball court, fire truck, train set play, grocery store, newsroom, slides and vets office, which was pretty much everything. This place is a hidden gem. I can't stress enough how neat this place is. Car fans, speed junkies, and history buffs will all find something interesting here. Good location for family visits, dates, weekend trips, and special events (they offer venue hosting). The staff is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, passionate, and kind. They obviously love what they do and it's infectious. There are no guided tours (which is preferable) but the tablets and various signage give you more than enough information. We learned a great deal and had fun doing it. We were told the collection on the floor is only half of the collection and it changes from time to time! Meaning this place is worth multiple visits.
Tickets are extremely cheap for the experience you get at about $25 per adult, $20 for seniors/military, and $15 for kids/students. Rare in this day and age. You can go as fast or slow as you'd like through the place. If you move briskly, you can finish seeing everything in about an hour. If you take your time and read everything you could end up staying from 2-3 hours.
The location is beautiful, clean, welcoming, and truly special. Located in a residential area, this location is a pleasant surprise. The signs and the very beautiful large custom metal gate clearly mark the entrance. A gorgeous lake with fountains and a huge '76' ball greet you once inside. Follow the road to parking. There is plenty of safe, private parking directly out front. Extremely clean bathrooms and main areas. Well-maintained environment. Fully air-conditioned, indoor experience. Wheelchair accessible from start to finish.
They keep all the cars as close to original specs as they can; doing all the work in-house and sourcing original materials. In fact, you can walk into the shop area and see them working in real time. You can get very close to, and even look inside of, the many display cars on the floor. Naturally, all they ask is that you don't touch. These cars are a piece of history and truly incredible to see in person. So much history and information to absorb here.
They have a licensed gift shop with actual licensed Brumos products! You can also access the products through their website. We elected to get a Porsche t-shirt showing many of their models over the years. They have something for everyone. Model cars. T-shirts. Hats. Puffy coats. Key chains. All rare licensed, merch. Be sure to get something to remember your trip! They are only open Thursday-Saturday, so plan accordingly. You can always order goods on their website though (I was told).

This is an amazing facility with so much history preserved. The collection is remarkable so many cars that are still driven from time to time and the preservation and maintenance is the best I’ve ever seen. A hidden gem that I didnt even know existed until I went with a group. A smallish automobile museum, that is absolutely fantastic. They have tours for small/medium sized groups, for Girl Scouts who we went with, and other similar organizations. Plenty of knowledgeable staff to lead tours, and share info with visitors. The staff was incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable about everything in the collection. The front desk especially was great at making the envoirment relaxed.

It is truly amazing that a studio from the silent movie era is still largely intact and here in Jacksonville! The main building still has a film vault with original artifacts, and there's an original viewing area upstairs (not yet open to the public) that's around 100 years old. Some of the only "all back" cast films produced during this era were also shot here, making this an important landmark of Aftican American history as well. The walking trails are great and give a good variety to see. I'd recommend driving all the way to the and and enter at the nature center. Entering anywhere else is fine, but its all the same trails. There are 2 main trail starts, one on each side of the road. And there are several trails within the trails. Everything is pretty well marked. Makes you proud of the people who served our country in the Navy. Getting to the ship downtown was a bit of a challenge due to construction. Arrived and found plenty of free parking in the side lot by the ship. Had to free tickets and bought one for our granddaughter for $7.00, well worth the price. Along the way you go down and up as you proceed forward. Ship has a lot of history as well as a nice gift shop as you leave the ship. She has an incredible passion for what she does. Ribault was the first place we visited and during our other venue tours, we couldn’t help but compare every place to it. The bowling looks great as well we just haven’t tried it yet. Take my word for it. Do not spend your time or money at the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium at Jacksonville's Museum of Science and History, especially if you want to see the planetarium movie. I've been to several planetariums across the country, and they often offer an amazing experience with incredible visuals. Unfortunately, this one does not.
First, to see the planetarium movie, you are required to buy admission to the museum as well, making the total cost about $25 per person. For my wife and me, that's $50 just to see a film! Fun experience and really well done! The themed rooms/walls were are thoughtfully put together with a variety options for everyone. Each part of the experience was planned and helpful. We came on a weekday evening and had the place to ourselves. The added Polaroid and 360 sin video were fantastic.
