They made the salsa right if front of us and took out a small portion of not spicy for my daughter and made it they way we like it. This was an awesome find! The atmosphere was fun, I loved sitting in the back of the courtyard, but they offer some indoor seating as well. I cannot say enough good things about the staff that served us. The women that took care of us were so friendly and efficient. They made fresh salsa at the table and it was perfect, so fresh and delicious. We ordered the Tuna Tartar as our appetizer and it was well worth it, so yummy! All of our dishes were great. I had the tuna steak - OMG! Pepper and wasabi crusted, cooked perfectly with just a sear. My husband had the pork shank which had amazing flavor. Our friends had the seafood enchilada, the Chili Relleno, and a streak. They all said it was really good.
They have a good selection of wine. We had a bottle of Pinot Noir from Mendocino, California.

We went last night, after a year of not going, hoping things had been turned around. Long story short food is underwhelming especially considering the price being charged. We wanted to go somewhere authentic in Mazatlan, in other words off the Malecon so we typed in best place for tacos and this place came up and everybody was talking about the Lamb barbecoa. We were excited because we love lamb but almost never have it in Canada so off we went. We took a bus to the Gran Plaza and walked to the restaurant - about 15 a 20 mins. It’s a great looking place and we were seated right away - everyone was friendly and our food came very quickly. We chose the 1/2 kilo Especial and the lamb comes wrapped up in foil and all the fixings to make your own little tacos. The lamb was extremely tender as promised. We also ordered the chocolate and banana milk (these are not traditional milk shakes with ice cream) which were good but we should have ordered the small because grande is huge! We could have gotten away with ordering the 1/4 kilo as we were so full of milk! They will ask if you want the consommé - we said yes but I wouldn’t order it again. It’s only 30 pesos but it just went to waste and it’s not really that great. Stick with the lamb! It is obviously a very popular local spot.

Same owners at the place next door but this space seemed busier. Everything on the menu looked well presented. I don’t have pictures of the other dishes but I would try everything. This particular dish is the beef ceviche style which was very flavorful! The only thing off putting for me was that the amount of beef in the dish for the price seemed a bit high.
The ambiance is casual cafe with an open kitchen. On Google you might think it’s a bit fancier; it is not. The servers seemed polite and kind. We only had one Non issue when my order came out a different meal completely and the waitress seemed to want me to take it anyway. Recently relocated to the corner of Calle México and Paseo Claussen, Caguamanta Doña Mary has been going strong and delighting customers for many, many decades. At this family-run institution (“¡La Tradición de Mazatlán!”), you’ll not only find some of the best caguamanta (manta ray stew) the city has to offer, but a welcome so warm you won’t want to leave.
We had the caguamanta and the estofado de carne de res (braised beef stew), served with a selection of fresh accompaniments, tortillas and some fantastic hot sauce on the side. Both dishes were as authentic as it gets, delicious and comforting and made with unmistakable love, which we understood when we had the honour of meeting Doña Mary herself, who, along with the whole team, looked after us like family.
We want to thank Jesús Manuel, Jaime, Maribel, and of course Doña Mary, for making our stay a pure delight while we enjoyed every bite, not to mention the view of the Malecón and the ocean just beyond (the caguamanta pairs particularly well with the seaside vibes). We look forward to going back as soon possible to try the caguamanta with tuna fin as well as their variety of tacos suaves (chef’s recommendation: chicharrón) and, por supuesto, to see our new friends.
