I just want to add that I have experienced some great hikes here this year. I have been to Possum Creek five times so far in 2025 and have walked a different path/trail each time. I also just learned that there is a farm in the park too! I have a camping trip planned for the first week of June. I can tell you what I know so far about camping....I googled camping at Possum Creek and I believe the website for Metro parks came up. Possum has 5 campsites that range in the amount of campers allowed at each site. The cost is affordable but changes during time of year and weekends vs. weekdays. A bundle of wood is included in the cost but you may purchase more for an extra cost. All the information is included in the TERMS AND CONDITIONS. There's loads of information there at checkout that I didn't even think to look for when making my reservation. Another thing you should know, these are primitive sites (no electricity) be prepared for that. I hope some of this information helps. Happy Hiking 🥾
Update 6/4/25: just got back from our 2 night camping trip. We loved our site. The first night there was a lot of traffic in the parking lot, people in and out enjoying the weather. A couple argued a little in the lot but did not bother us. We had the Buckeye site. The trail to the farm was to the left of the site and another campsite (Tulip Poplar) was to the right. Up the trail by the porta potty was the "Lakeview" site. On Tuesday there was not a lot of traffic, it was quiet and peaceful. I do recommend to purchase extra wood, especially if you plan on cooking meals over the fire. I brought my Blackstone and cooked a few meals on it. I also loved that it was closer to home compared to other places I have camped. Thank you all for reading this really long post and my updates

Three of us came here to camp for the 2024 eclipse. Our campsite was right on the lake and very peaceful. Though there was a lot of activity with people walking and fishing, they were all friendly and we didn't feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

It's a nice little metropark that is well-maintained by great people. Love the demonstration garden. There's also some livestock being tended after (do not feed). Possum Creek isn't the biggest local park but it's certainly not the worst. Barely any trails for hiking but there is plenty of foliage and a few walking trails. There's also a small pond for fishing.

We were at the Black Cherry site and it was amazing!
The pavilion was well taken care of. The wood was well stocked. The campsite was clean and easy to setup several tents. The pond adjacent was a big hit with the kids. The only downside was the bathrooms were pretty gross.

Nice camps - nicer fire rings than normal, trash and recycling cans in camp area, all very decent sized.
Dog friendly - they have options that are away from other camps so if you have a puppy or dog that barks at everything you won't hear then go off constantly.
Fishing - no need for even a license to fish there so if you have family camping too there's no worry. Also convenient to get to. No long trip to yr fishing.
Firewood - This i was surprised about! They supply about a four day supply to you for free at your camp and it's nice and dry.
Atmosphere - It's nice and quiet for the most part. You do hear allot of city sounds... planes, cars and sirens in the distance but you can't help that really being so close to everything. I will say it's more quiet than any of the other major ones in the area.
Convenience - kina a tossed on that.. I like that it's close to us. No long trip.
On the other hand I don't like those city sounds I previously mentioned.
Firewood was a nice touch!

What a gem!!! My husband and son surprised me with a Mother's Day hike here. It doesn't look like it's going to be much by the basic parking lot, simple restroom, and minimal signage...but it was a "real" hike with a beautiful waterfall. Lots of hidden extras along the way, too.

Great spot for a short hike to just enjoy nature for a while. The trail is very well maintained and well marked. Beautiful waterfall. It is a bit steep near the waterfall, so maybe not ideal for anyone with knee trouble. Even the restrooms were clean and well kept. Only downside for me was that it was pretty busy when I visited - I guess its popularity speaks for itself!

Clear trails, well kept areas, cop present Everytime I've gone very safe place, some spots are rocky but it's a cliffy area so to be expected. Going slow someone with mobility issues could do it depending on their personal mobility, my elderly mother goes and we take our time. Some areas are difficult for her but she makes it. This place is absolutely gorgeous! We went with our 3 year old and 1 year old and because I thought I had seen a review that said it was *mostly* stroller friendly, we brought the stroller. It is not stroller friendly! I repeat: NOT stroller friendly! At least not if you want to go down to the falls, which is kind of the whole point. There are several flights of stairs to go down and then back up across a bridge, then a path upwards that has large rocks in the path that cannot be traversed with a stroller. We ended up folding it up and carrying it until we got to the top and smooth sailing (pebble gravel). Without the stroller, my 3 year old would have had a hard time going as far as we did though, so there were pros and cons to it.
When we got to the top of the trail after the falls, the path to the left, which goes down steeply, took us to a little spot where we put our feet in and threw some rocks. Not sure if we were supposed to be in the water, but there weren't any signs saying not to... And it was the highlight of our trip! My son lives for throwing rocks into water and this was better than any amusement park for him ☺️

Wonderful place to go and spend the day learning and reminiscing about Dayton and all its contributions. Brought back so many memories and was able to tell grandkids about the places. So many neat things to see and learn about. They do a great job of restoring and maintaining the vast museum items and artifacts. New to the Ohio area and live about 25 minutes South of here so we decided to come check it out. Really glad we did!
First the people working here are awesome. Helpful, kind and informative. We walked the entire area, road the big train and even jumped on the little train for a ride. Little train isn't always available to ride but apparently we came on the right day...throws you back to feeling like a kid for a few minutes!
The grounds are kept up well, the walk is easy and relaxing and the big train is a nice relaxing ride around the park. Sit is the right place near one of the staff and they'll fill you in on the history and anything else you would want to know about.
The park is full of history. I had no idea about the industrial impact Dayton had on the country at one time. Each stop at a new building is rich with information and there are plenty of cool things to look at.
Wright brothers Museum was just as good as the rest of the park. Much larger than expected and lots of details about the Wright brother and their first flights.
Overall it was neat to be thrown back in time and see where innovation has brought us. Even if you're not a big fan of history, it's worth the visit to check out some cool things on a relaxing walk around the park.

I visited RiverScape MetroPark in downtown Dayton on a cloudy Sunday this fall, and what began as a short stroll turned into a memorable moment of calm and connection with nature. Your stomach will scream once you walk in as the smell of smoke and bbq hits your nose. This is a large two story building with plenty of space for everyone. The decor is that of an old Alehouse with an open brick fire smoking up the goodness.

They have 3 BBQ sauces; Regular, Spicy and Carolina Mustard. These are on the runny side, so be careful when using them. The Mac & Cheese was thick and I added some of the spice BBQ to kick it up a notch. Not sure if award winning to my taste buds as it seemed bland. The dog was heavy with all the extras and messy as heck. Oh what funtimes ahead with messy hands. I added the regular BBQ as well to the hot dog. The hot dog could have been a bit hotter and I think frying it would make the experience more enjoyable. Otherwise, the hot dog was a good pick.
With a tip, it was $29 for me. I left with that wonderful smokey smell too, so I had to change when I got home. Even one of the waiters mentioned that there should be an outlet for the smoke to go outside.

I think the idea of this place is cool, but it really needs some money put into it. I'm glad we went on a Free day because I would have been upset to pay an entrance fee for what is there. There is a super small inside gallery area. A bunch of exhibits were covered so you couldn't see them. The outside is a small village with two structures. It was cool to go in and see you those looked like. There are plaques with what is around the circle area and you can either scan the QR code to get that information or borrow one of their books to learn about it. I think that's pretty cool. I think there is massive room for improvement and making things just look nicer. I think those in charge could learn a lot from how the Great Council State Park was done. And the history nerd in me loved it. One of the best parks to visit. Took my kids to see the trolls and they were absolutely breathtaking. My kids enjoyed it and even though we didn't have time to do everything we will definitely be coming back. The trails are pretty easy to walk and not very long distances to get to the trolls. It's definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. The gift shop has the cutest things and there is just so much to explore you can make a day out of it!

These are three simple pictures that were actually meant to capture the awesome view of all the yellow flowers we had encountered in particular that day, but it gives a slight peek into the beauty of the reserve/park overall. Our favorite trek is going around the lake utilizing the trails in and out of the woods as we weave closer and further to the water. It appears that folks may be able to fish in the lake, but we go for the great walks. Depending on which way you go, you can spend five minutes on the trail or well over an hour. That's a really nice aspect is being able to choose how involved I want to be at a given moment for a walk. We also enjoy going up onto the paved walkway above the dam that offers incredible views of the surrounding area and wildlife. There are always birds soaring, critters running about and even turtles basking along the banks and on logs in the water. I'll edit at some point and add more pictures especially of the dam, but again there's always a different route to take and we as of yet haven't made it all the way around the lake, but one day....you have to check this place out and take advantage of what this park has to offer.

I don't rate things often, but I love this park and it was a lifesaver for the heatwave. The dogs still got to get out and walk shaded trails without being eaten by bugs and getting to the creek and walk the creek which kept them cool.

I was staying close to the University of Dayton and wanted to go for a run. There seemed to be a paved pathway that ran parallel a great distance of this river, so I went to run there. My first run started just south of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park, and in a southerly direction. Of the 4 mile loop I ran around that portion of the Miami River, I only had one real concern.
It was a protective (euphemism for aggressive) Canada Goose. Though much of Canada is polite, apologetic, and downright likeable, this goose was ready to have someone catch hands. I saw a goose hanging out on the sidewalk of the eastern portion of the Miami river, and Harold (thats the name I gave the goose), hissed at me. I mistakenly hissed back, and that is when the good ol' Harry started to fly at me. Twice! The audacity. I tried to just continue on in my run and also avoid any physical contact with Harold, but it seems said goose may have been protecting some goslings. I'm not sure.
So, if you see a goose hanging out on the sidewalk near another goose laying down. Give it more space than I did, and don't hiss. Rather, I think some Bostonian talkback would be more productive language, ya know, the kind you hear when someone is driving poorly.
Also, Harold, stop being so mean to clueless tourists.
My second run was in a northerly direction on the Miami River trail. The trail can be somewhat confusing when there are bridges or walkways that lead up a hill or down one, so it is useful to observe your surroundings. All the other Canada Geese were very Canadian, so you won't have to worry too much about them.
What was interesting is the way that the Miami River was after a major rain event. There was a lot of mud. Be prepared to watch for puddles and potential flooded areas on your travels, but enjoy it!

My daughter, her friend, Matt and I actually kayaked dwn the Miami River. I absolutely LOVED kayaking! It was my 1st time but it DEFINATELY will not be my last. I believe I found a new hobby. I'd suggest kayaking to everyone. The Miami River has a beautiful scenery also. It has 2 little waterfalls. One of them you can actually jump off into fresh clean water. You can pull your kayak off to the side and enjoy a drink, have a snack and enjoy the scenery. The water this day was slow moving which allowed for a long slow cruize. While your driving on 25a from Piqua to Troy you would never know that there's a river w/ these waterfalls and beauty right behind the business' that are located on the bank of the river. I just cannot wait to do it again.
