This place was great their food, service and atmosphere was very relaxing. We tried their vegetarian and vegan plates and were impressed by the flavors. We are not vegan or vegetarian however we try to give each food a try and mix it up often. The baklava and their coffee excellent choices for dessert. I could tell the flavor was there and it was fantastic, but there were some things I couldn't eat more than a bite off because it set my mouth on fire! My friend loved it, so that's great. The woman who provided service to me was very warm, polite and accommodating. I recommend others get the spicy tea along with your meal, as that is very nice. I ordered Combo 2, which comes with Doro watt (chicken stew) and key watt (beef stew) and two of their many vegan options. I chose yellow split peas and collared greens. The food was really good and I enjoyef it and the atmosphere a lot. My only slight issues is that I felt the beef in the key watt could have been stewed longer to make it more tender and allow the spices to penetrate into the meat a little more, and in my opinion the collared greens could have been slightly saltier. For dessert, I had their rice pudding and it was quite nice and subtle.

Really enjoyed my brunch at Busboys and Poets. I had the buttermilk pancakes, vegan burger, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and the honey caramel iced coffee — everything tasted fresh, hot, and delicious.

A nice restaurant in the Shirlington area.
This was recommended to us by a family member as it was close to a hotel that we were staying at. It was founded by artist-activist Andy Shallal. The first site opened September 2005 and was named in honor of Langston Hughes (who once worked as a busboy). It has a very interesting atmosphere owing to the fact that it is a small bookstore as well as a fair sized restaurant. We were greeted as we entered and seated immediately. There are mixes of booths, tables and at least 2 separate rooms for seating inside and a small area right outside the front door for additional seating. The walls and art provide plenty to look at while you are there. The restaurant was clean and well-appointed. The breakfast menu (when we visited) has everything from omelettes to bagels, french toast to bacon. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. I ordered the scrambled eggs with toast. The prices were reasonable with my eggs coming in at $11. The food came out quickly and was different than I am used to but still good. Overall, this is definitely a place worth trying if you are in the area and want to try a neat place with good food.

Visiting from NYC. A great vegetarian/vegan/gluten free option place. It’s a Black owned business that promotes books and creative arts. We started off with Brussel sprouts with Balsamic vinaigrette. A very decent Mediterranean/Lebanese joint. First time here and we enjoyed the place. Great service with great gourmet style food. We ordered the chicken shawarma platter. It was great. After searching Reddit for dinner suggestions while in Alexandria, I decided to try the Pita House. I'm so glad I did! The waiter helped me decide what to order based on my food preferences and the Fatteh Blahmeh (stewed lamb in yogurt sauce) was absolutely fantastic! We finished up the dinner with the raspberry Napoleon. It was the perfect little bit of sweet to top off a very rich and filling dinner.

Saw this place walking by and noticed people's plates and vowed to go back. They did not disappoint. My father got the Mahi Mahi sandwich. It's well lit and cute inside and they have a great menu. Service can be a little distracted sometimes with people going in and out behind the counter but they are very nice. I love Junction it’s a Del Ray staple and I’ve been coming here for years. But this was my first time trying their brunch and I’m honestly blown away.
The sausage gravy is hands down the best in the area rich, perfectly seasoned, and served over a buttery, soft biscuit with the perfect crisp on the outside. The eggs were cooked just right, and the home fries had that perfect crispy bite with tons of flavor.
Jossue made my iced latte and it was perfection—smooth espresso (not burnt!), and the milk-to-coffee ratio was spot on.
The vibes are always amazing, and the staff is consistently kind and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. Huge shoutout to managers Jack and Caitlin for running such a great spot this place truly never misses.

I'm updating my review because we are very disappointed with the food from this place. We used to love it but not anymore. Every time we order the portions get smaller and terribly done. There is no quality control anymore and they continue to cheap out on the take out orders. The tacos have no filling, the guac is half the size, the birria tacos are empty and look like a 5 year old made them. We had gone back in the past and complained about the take out but now we are tired of having the same issues and having to go back for them to fix the order. It's a shame, it used to be a great place with great food.

The happy hour specials aren't great, but it didn't really matter because the price was right and there were plenty of menu options (including vegetarian). My unit at work was lucky enough to get catering from Bagel Uprising one morning and WOW. The bagels were PERFECT! Crunchy on the outside, perfectly seasoned, soft on the inside. So fresh! My personal favorite is the everything bagel with scallion cream cheese.

Went for breakfast today, probably as busy as it could be but everything was as orderly as possible. Had the “classic” - a lox sandwich. Very good bagel. Crispy on outside and chewy on the inside. I’m trying all the bagel shops in the vicinity and this one is pretty good 8/10. You’re lucky if you live nearby. Salmon cream cheese was different than most, mostly just salmon and cream cheese with seasoning, very lemony. Super fair price. Looking forward to trying more they have to offer. Cinnamon bagel looked amazing. No indoor seating but a good size outdoor patio in a cute part of Del Ray.

Bagel Uprising’s fall special sandwich, the Del Roasted, is genuinely one of the most delicious sandwiches I have ever had. I’m still thinking about it days later and will probably be going back tomorrow for another one. As a plus size lady, I had resigned myself to the fact that I would have to settle when it comes to lingerie and feeling sexy; but when I walked past this store and saw the plus size mannequin I got so excited! Stopped by on a Friday afternoon and spent a while browsing. The staff readily helped out with any questions we had including specific details about the products they stocked compared to other ones they didn’t. That had a good sale going for a few of the things we wanted which was great.
My girlfriend who’s had some bad experiences in similar shops felt safe and comfortable here. Overall it was a fun experience and we left with a lot of things we’d been looking for. We’ll definitely be back.

Finally a store that is more queer inclusive! I feel like I’ve never been to a store that felt extra dedicated to women/AFAB/femme folks! You could probably find options cheaper online, but if you want to see/feel and get advice, this shop is your spot! The staff members have their pronoun pins and they are amazing and so helpful and offer shame/judgement-free recommendations! Also, they have an extensive sticker selection including work from one of my favs, transpainter (forgot to take pics of those!!!!). Highly recommend!

Very welcoming! Jax, Bria and Jay were all very helpful and friendly. The store had sizes xs-3x in stock for multiple items. I asked for a demo of a product I had never used before. The staff were very happy to answer all of my questions. I was able to feel the use of the toy on my arm. They encouraged trying pieces on before purchase due to their no refund/return policy. There changing rooms are equipped with wipes, deodorant, and tissues. I did keep my full brief underwear and tank top on while trying pieces. I did make a rather large purchase and have zero regrets. I thoroughly enjoyed this store. My girlfriends and I reserved a private visit and was not disappointed. The store is small but adequate enough in size to fit a lot of people as they browse thru the products. Parking isnt the best but there are small parking lots around as well as street parking. There were many options and variety or products. The staff was knowledgeable and eager to assist. Prices were reasonable for this type of store which is great because you want to buy everything.
