Update:
For a little while these guys lost their way, the menu was chopping and changing and it was clear they weren't really sure what they wanted to do. There was one or two staff that really let the side down and definitely caused groups to leave due to seemingly inexplicable slowness.
I'm pleased to say the service is now better (maybe still not really what you would call efficient) but luckily they seem to have found their identity again! The food choices have pivoted to mexican, which they do well and for very thrifty prices. There are some unique touches, like muscovado and lime glaze, that put their own stamp on the food.
They don't seem to particularly advertise themselves as mexican which seems a shame. I'm sure more folks would pop over the bridge for something a bit different if they knew

Surprisingly fabulous place!
The name put me off a bit as I suspected they might be connected to Albert Shed, just across town. If they are then it is a huge step in right direction as this experience is a million times better
We have been twice, a Friday tea time followed by a Saturday afternoon and they were excellent both times
On our first visit we went with the cheeseboard, which was very generously sized and packed with quality ingredients. We also added some houmous from the veggie board, which gave us additional bread. The extra bread was useful because of the sheer quantity of cheese! This wasn't nibbles, this was a satisfying meal that left us contentedly stuffed
On our second trip we tried the sandwiches and they were damn good! The bread had a slight golden crispness to it as if it had met some butter in a hot pan, delicious. The fillings were generous and interesting. They came with a side of chips, well seasoned and crisp and a side salad where someone had made a real effort to make it worth eating. Honestly you won't get a better lunchtime sandwich for £8
Beer choice is respectable, wines very reasonable and the cocktails are a real star. This is a venue that really knows it's cocktails, some inspired signature drinks and a solid array of classics. And I don't mean classics like some lesser venues do, I mean proper classics.
It could be the only place in town that can make you a Sazerac and if you have never tried one before, try it here first. If you like the idea of absinthe done properly you could even go for Death in the Afternoon. Hemingway would be proud
I'm looking forward to going back and working through some more cocktails!
Edit: we have been back a few times but recently they have gained a new chef and a much enlarged menu. It was a bit overdue as the previous menu seemed to keep shrinking but the new one has some very tasty dishes.
It also doesn't break the bank, if you fancy a casual thrifty meal and a few beers, you can't go far wrong

A great cafe for a Sunday cuppa and piece of cake after a walk round the park. Or, have a cocktail, awesome milkshakes, and many more. The Pour House was a great surprise with great staff and service, an ambiance perfect for Sunday afternoons and music that blended in to the environment perfectly. My Gingerbread Latte had great flavour and the 'Gin & Tonic' botanical flavour cake was sensational. Great for yourself, bring your loved ones. I'm told in the evening it becomes a different place, live music and a great way to start and end any night out.

They had run out of their normal meat substitute (harissa oatmeal something) but adapted it with Jackfruit which was appreciated. I'd definitely go back to try it again with the oat stuff, but also enjoyed the jackfruit. Also I don't normally eat/like quacamole but theirs was really tasty.

Waited 40 minutes for drinks as the only customers in the bar, 3 milkshakes a draught pint and a diet coke. We were then told the soda pumps were broke - 35 minutes after we ordered it. Ordered some fried chicken, pictures are worth more than words so is this an £8 portion. They also then told us they can't refund us but will knock 20% off the drinks, after continuing to complain we got a refund and went elsewhere. We’ve finally found our favorite spot in Shrewsbury—and it’s The Boathouse! This place truly has it all: breathtaking views, a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and delicious food and drinks.
The location is unbeatable, right by the river with picture-perfect views of the water and the bridge. On sunny days, there’s nothing better than sitting outside, soaking up the sunshine with a cold beer or cider in hand. It’s so peaceful watching the ducks and swans glide by, birds flying overhead, and people kayaking along the river. It really gives you that holiday feeling without ever leaving town.
On our first visit, I tried lamb for the very first time and went for the Moroccan Lamb Tagine—absolutely packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. We also had the BH Burger, which was juicy, tasty, and very satisfying. The food overall was fantastic and clearly made with care.
The staff were friendly and attentive from the bar to the table. The whole experience—from the scenic setting to the great food and top-notch service—made it one of those places you want to come back to again and again.
Whether you’re local or just visiting Shrewsbury, The Boathouse is a must-visit. We enjoyed every minute spent there and will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

We were visiting Shrewsbury and looking for a restaurant with view of the river. This was highly rated. There was limited parking and we parked in the city center & walked across the Port Hill Suspension Bridge. The ambiance inside and outside the restaurant was lovely. The staff were very nice. The boathouse is located on the river severn, opposite the Quarry Park in Shrewsbury town centre and not far away to Porthill. The food was great, I had the Honey Roasted ham and cheddar bap with skin on fries, and it was amazing. The service was good, and the staff greeted me with a friendly smile, and the price for my order wasn't that bad for the amount of food I got. If no one has been here before, give this place a try and have a taste for yourself.

From the moment we entered, we felt very welcome and we're seated straight away. All of the hosts who saw us throughout our were incredibly attentive and accommodating, and this really stood out until the moment we left the door.
We are from the "Earth" section of the menu as vegetarians, and we thoroughly enjoyed every dish. Very hard to pick a favourite, but if I had to it would be the Tofu Katsu. Portion sizes are generous as tapas goes, and we left feeling comfortably full and nourished.

I’ve just had the most delicious Sunday roast. I’m vegetarian so opted for their nutless roast - full of wonderful seeds and other yummy deliciousness. I ate late for a Sunday (7.30pm) but the joint was jumping and no wonder the food is well cooked, plentiful and fresh - even that late I enjoyed fresh Yorkshire puddings, vegetables and roast potatoes that tasted fresh out of the oven. Third time going, but this time thought we would try out ficlxed Sunday lunch. £23 for starter/main and although roasts are on the menu, there are plenty of other choices.
The portion sizes are pretty big and I went for the chicken pate and vegan roast, and it was all perfect. Loads of fresh veg served and a real eat out feel.
Food always great and the service always absolutely brilliant, happy and vibrant, despite being no more than required.
We have to make a special mention for Antonio, a lovely guy who was particularly warm and attentive.
Probably the best mid priced restaurant in Shrewsbury right now (especially given Cote seems to have taken a massive nose dive down to its struggling service quality relative to taking on Deliveroo orders).
We used to be regulars there but will shift more to the River Bank now, especially if the menus change a bit more often.

I haven’t left any negative reviews yet, but my visit to Floro Lounge was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share. The place looks amazing — warm, cozy, and beautifully designed — but the customer service was by far the worst I’ve encountered in Shrewsbury.
The staff were completely inattentive. The space itself is quite large, and it quickly became clear that it’s too big for the number of staff working. Walked in for a quick coffee and served with a smile, menu looked great.
We visited again for Dinner, allowed to take in Balloons, Cake etc, nothing was a problem. All staff very welcoming and friendly.

Lunchtime stop on a Tuesday in Shrewsbury on our way to North Wales and wanted somewhere for a light lunch. Not only did it tick the dog friendly box, but this cafe appeared both inviting and popular.

We visit this place regularly in the daytime for food so this review is based on multiple visits. The food here is always superb and excellent value for money. The staff are accommodating and friendly and the premises are clean with freshly wiped tables. It's been our favourite day time please to eat in Shrewsbury for quite a while. The choice of gin was huge. They also had a draft ale or lager and a range of bottled beers.

Me and my partner came for the first time one a weekday evening after dinner. It was a lovely set up and the board games were scattered across tables. The drinks menu was so long there is something for everyone and we wanted to try them all. They are great quality hence the pricing.

It was the couscous, no flavour and it’s simply awful, fortunately I mixed most of it with the tagine which had a nice flavour. But it’s the lack of vegan options which is why we won’t be coming back for food, do yourself a favour, bin the couscous. May come back for drinks though as it’s a nice enough place otherwise.

We chose Hickory's Smokehouse in Shrewsbury on a whim for our anniversary dinner, and we're so glad we did! It turned out to be a fantastic and memorable evening.
While the menu isn't overflowing with options for vegetarians, the choices available are truly excellent. My husband had the delicious Veggie Burger, and I thoroughly enjoyed the flavorful Mac and Cheese. Both were satisfying and high-quality dishes, proving that a smokehouse can deliver great meat-free options.
However, the absolute star of the entire meal was the Garlic Pretzel with Cheese. Seriously, if you visit, this appetizer is a must-try and completely stole the show—it was outstanding!
Beyond the brilliant food, the service was truly exceptional. Our waitress, Ellie, was absolutely amazing. She was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make our anniversary dinner feel special. She is a credit to the team and absolutely deserves a raise!

It’s quite a busy restaurant, so I mentioned that I wear hearing aids and asked if they could find us a quieter spot so I’d be able to hear my husband properly. The staff were absolutely brilliant – friendly, understanding, and went out of their way to find the perfect table for us. Heard so much about this place and greeted with nice staff and food came out in about 15/20 mins.
But when you’re charging £14 a burger it needs to be 8/10 … I can’t give it anymore than 4 unfortunately. It’s a good size and looks amazing , but was just underwhelming.

Have always loved The Beefy Boys and today didn’t disappoint!
Despite not having a reservation they lady was very helpful in trying to find us an available table on this dreary Saturday lunch time. My sister popped in about 1.15pm and they said the next available table for four people would be at 2pm-as I didn’t reply to her message she didn’t reserve it, so when we arrived about five minutes later the table had gone and we’d be looking at a 2.30pm table which was just too late with being hungry. We politely declined and said we’d go elsewhere, but as we were leaving we heard someone call “excuse me” and the young lady was behind us saying a table had just reduced their number from 3 to 2 so if we wanted we could come back in 15 minutes for a table…winner winner!
Food as always was top notch, refills on soft drinks always a bonus.
The guy who brought the bill made it very clear the service charge was optional and would be more than happy to take it off if we wanted (we were happy to keep it on)
Didn’t feel rushed to have the table back so a lovely relaxed lunch had by us, see you again soon guys!

What a great pub, visited on Sunday afternoon. The knowledgeable bar staff were superb and they made time to discuss beer options ( there were plenty to choose from). It was just a quick visit as we were only in the town for a few days and there are loads of pubs to try.

Came here with my partner for dinner with fairly high expectations, given the wealth of positive reviews here on Google. However, although the food itself was OK (although not quite up to its price), there were a few issues with the service that are worth raising.
First off, my partner ordered a drink without ice, a request which was not heeded, so it had to be re-prepared. To the staff's credit, this was done very promptly.
Secondly, I ordered a sirloin steak done medium, and the steak arrived well done; I wasn't even given a steak knife to begin with, so the steak was very difficult to cut through. Again, the issue was dealt with very promptly by the staff and I was soon served a steak that was cooked as I ordered it.
Once all the issues were sorted, we were happy enough with the food - the BBQ pulled pork dirty fries were a particular highlight. However, owing to the issues we encountered with the service, we're not sure we'd return in future.

Was asked to return here for another country music night which I did with some friends following a horrendous first experience.
I must say it was much better this time round. With the warm weather the outdoor Flamingo rooftop bar area was open which meant it wasn't overly busy inside and people could come and go between acts.
I still however feel that their VIP area isn't very VIP getting cramped and difficult to move around in. Not what I expect as a VIP. If you're going to charge extra then you need to provide extra.
Overall still a great venue for a night out with some super acts you don't get anywhere else in the area.

Went as a hen do group to bongos bingo. The event was great, fun, great music. We arrived 30min early , thinking that will be early enough to get good seats but to our surprise it was already very crowdy and they had to get a table and benches and put us against the wall near the toilets, we didn't have a good view and felt a little left out . Did they sell too many tickets and just crammed people in?
If you ever go, make sure you arrive 1.5 hrs early. The event itself was great fun .

Been here a few times to see some tribute acts perform. Absolute amazing performances always and it's the perfect venue for it. Always really easy to get a drink and the staff are super friendly. The four handpumps on our visit were from a micro brewery in Lower Peover ( honest..a real small village, we have s lovely walk starting here.) Service was sustained brilliance throughout. Afternoon tea was delivered by the chef and each part explained which was a stunning touch. It may sell fine wines but when the wines are mostly £35+ a bottle they need to be good but had just had better across the road in Tanners for a cheaper price.

We were lucky enough to stumble across Social Street Kitchen on our way to the theatre and we couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome as we walked through the door. The food was gorgeous and we loved the whole atmosphere. Gaz was extremely accommodating for my mum’s fish allergy and was so helpful and friendly.
