The Stables has a great location, easily accessible with plenty of parking. A spacious hostelry with plenty of seating options, dog friendly and big picture window views with adjustable blinds when the sun shines brightly. Very expensive for what was meant to be a deluxe room. We had phoned ahead for a twin room but none available onarrival so had to pay £20 a night extra for the supposedly deluxe rooms. Reception staff were completely useless and afraid of a bit of work. Honestly not great at all. Breakfast wS certainly lying OK and the breakfast staff were great . We had a group evening meal. The food was so old fashioned and bland. Salmon overcooked no taste. 3 courses was only £30 but I wish we had hone out. Started the meal at 7pm and before 9pm the waiter was making it very obvious he was clearing up. I would definitely NOT stay again at that price. It is certainly a very old building with a lot of history and character, however it needs extensive refurbishment (including the plumbing which was very erratic. I am sad to say in it's current state and with the lack of a warm hospitality and far from gastronomic food it once served with finesse that I would not choose to stay or dine there in the future. We stayed for 3 nights and it was fantastic. The hotel is gorgeously decorated throughout, with each room themed and filled with character. Breakfast delivered to our door was a lovely thing to wake up to. Our room had a bath, a comfy queen (maybe king?) bed, with a seafront view that included the harbour, the steps, and the Abbey. Parking was directly out front which was a great help. Loads of places nearby for lil bits, and a very short walk into Whitby centre. As the B&B we had just vacated was full, found this had availability for one night and had free parking and breakfast included for a bargain price. Check in was easy, friendly and helpful staff and were able to park off the road, right outside the door. On the plus side, the location is great. You're very close to most things you'd want to do in Whitby. The room was very spacious, clean and well presented. Parking is a nightmare. The place on balance is lovely. Location great. A massive letdown was the state of the shower cubicle. It was in a sad state! Black mould on tiles and base. Sealant was cracked and mouldy. Plenty of good spots to eat and the accommodation was within walking distance of it all. Fairly priced for what it is. If your after luxury accommodation this might not be for you. The views of the Abbey were wonderful. There wasn't a lift but it wasn't a problem for us but if you are an older person or one who struggles to climb stairs maybe apartment 1 would be more suitable. We were aware of the stairs but it wasn't an issue for us. Location perfect. 5 minute walk into town. The apartment was clean, well stocked with cooking utensils, beautiful towels and bed linen. The owners were easy to communicate with and left a welcome pack which was gratefully received. I would not hesitate to recommend and will definitely visit again if we were in Whitby
