I think the best part is when they turn on the actual machines, you hear the noise and imagine the heat / humidity for 12 hour shifts, and the overall poor working conditions these women dealt with just for a decent wage. We learnt a lot of new things about the fabric production, they even sell souvenirs from those old machines. The tour and demonstration were really interesting and even kids were interested to see it. The machinery room is an amazing example of industrial preservation, and features working machinery for immersion. Ear plugs are provided to help dull the sound of the machines. An excellent first stop to orient yourself for a full visit of Lowell National Historical Park. The movie provides a great overview of the Industrial Revolution in America and, particularly, the key role that Lowell played. There were hands on activities for kids and fantastic exhibits, as one would expect at a National Park. I visited on a weekend so the trolley wasn't running, and in November so the boats weren't operating, but there is still plenty to see in the vicinity of the visitor center on foot. A wonderful discovery! We spent the afternoon with 5 kids taking the canal and turbine tours, and visiting the Boott museum. We hear much about colonial history around here (and rightly so), but we had no idea that the American industrial revolution started in Lowell. Fascinating. Beautiful, intricately made, and many historic, quilts at this museum. Truly an art form in fabric medium. Collections vary every couple of months and I was excited to see the one from Japan.
The curator was present and very engaging, answering our questions, listening to our shared enjoyment of the place.
Helpful facts: air conditioned, elevator, restroom, magnifying glasses available for up close viewing, gift shop. Diagonally across the street is the entrance to a Victorian garden, which leads to the Streetcar museum.

I'm so glad we made the trip!! The museum is smaller, but packed with a few revolving exhibits. The quilts are absolutely beautiful and inspiring!! Volunteer docents were very knowledgeable and helpful explaining the exhibits. The gift shop was surprisingly affordable (most gift shops are super overpriced!). I got inspired upstairs in the exhibit and was able to buy a big bag of fabric remnants - several cumulative yards - for just $4! Also lots of handmade goods that would make wonderful gifts. I'm a sewer but the person I went with is not and they also very much enjoyed it. Worth the trip!! Afterwards, I recommend Life Alive, the restaurant across the street, for lunch!

Small museum that does not take much time to see. There was an exhibit at the time of my visit focused on the natural resource water. I would not consider the quilts in this display traditional quilts, but excellent displays of fiber art using many different art techniques to tell a story. Several good exhibits, including different mediums of art quilting, thought provoking exhibit on guns/gun violence and miniature quilts. The gun exhibit wasn't ideally what we would've preferred to have seen, however the other exhibits were wonderful. It is a nice little museum, honoring, celebrating and preserving our craft. I had the opportunity to spend most of my day there last month and hang out with and get to know some of the locals. Its completely volunteer run, and servers as a satellite to the Kennebunk Maine museum as well as an information center about the trolleys they run during the warmer weather. My first time here and it's a beautiful building and theater. The show is saw was enjoyable! My only real issue is accessibility. While waiting for the theater to begin seating people, there's only a couple chairs at high top tables near the concessions and everyone else must stand. I didn't bring my it but I am usually a cane user and standing for periods of time is difficult for me. The only accessible seating in the theater is the very first row of theater seats, and when I bought tickets the site said none were available - but during the show most of those seats were open. All other seats are only accessible by stairs.
For the seating, the orchestra seats are very narrow. I have wide hips and wasn't very comfortable, and thankfully one seat next to me was open so I didn't bump elbows on both sides. It looked like the balcony seats are chairs that can be moved, so if you are a larger bodied person and can get into the balcony, that may be your most comfortable spot. Many plus size bodies simply will not fit in the orchestra seating.
Because the theater is small, there's really no bad seat in the house.

In the year 2022 it was great to be back and experience the wide diversity that makes this festival a place to add to your summer schedule.
It was a little smaller, down one stage this year and a couple from way back, but it was still rich in bring out a broad selection of acts.
We enjoyed Jazz, Louisiana Brass, Western Swing, Blues bands, Kentucky Folk, traditional Celtic, and loved some rich Soul music that made me feel like I was back in some churches 30 + years ago.

Not a bad seat in the place. The staff & fans are friendly, even to visiting fans, and even during a big playoff game.

The only bad part is there is no way to watch in the rain and very little space to catch shade during a noon start (no cover on the concourse).
Visit the nearby mill sites to gain an appreciation of the history that lead to the Spinners naming. They even have a free trolley around the area, which contains a National Historical Area.
The trolley passes by high school attended by writer Jack Kerouac.
Nearby you can visit the Paul Tsongas Arena (named for the late Senator).

I'm not a fan of the location — the Luna Theater is tucked inside a very hipster mall inside a retired mill building, and the entrance would've been difficult to find if I hadn't gone with a friend who'd been here before. We moved to Lowell recently and we've been waiting for just the right movie to see at Luna. Last Thursday they showed Groundhog Day on Groundhog Day; it's my favorite movie and my girlfriend had never seen it. This was the perfect event. The movie was free to the public and on a first come/first serve basis. It was apart of a college series and the professor does an interactive lecture about the movie afterward.

Been going to the Worthen for many, many years. My wife and I usually do lunch on a Saturday afternoon, but occasionally meet a couple of old friends for drinks and sometimes close the place out. I love the Pollard Library..I skidded in there at 8:35 pm on thursday with less than half an hour til closing. I had to look up then go retrieve the books on 3 different floors . This library is great and helpful! They have a wide selection of books and many museum passes to offer! It seems like some parts of the library was recently renovated as well. Most of the staff are very kind and helpful.
However, there is one staff member in particular that is very rude. She is an older woman who normally works on the first floor at the desk. This is a great place for a nice walk with your dog. Their are other people that walk their dogs as well. Be careful of some dog owners whom walk their dogs off leash. So, if your a bit uneasy just be prepared for that. Also, there is a house that has two brown dogs that are a bit vocal when they are in the yard and the run back and forth if you happen to walk your dog by it. They seem harmless, however, I am just a bit apprehensive because I do not know if they can jump over the fence. My dog enjoys going there because in the winter time we are unable to walk up the hill due to the snow so when it becomes Springtime he gets happy we are able to go there again.

We went to see Boz Scaggs. Boz and his band were fantastic. Great musicians, awesome solos and performance. The venue, although very nice setting, isn't managed that well. They sell more tickets than the park can hold. People were four deep out on the sidewalk. The park itself was absolutely jammed with lawn chairs. Apparently, you can set up your chair early in the day and then leave it there to "reserve" a seat. When we arrived over two hours early for the concert, the place was already full with empty chairs and blankets. So you have to set up out on the sidewalk. Not a pleasant experience for the money.

My dad bowled and worked here, and I have many fond memories of helping him find shoes, bowling in the youth league, and attempting to defeat the arcade games. I recently acquired an older painting that was not in perfect condition. Being new to the world of art I wanted to explore care and protection for this piece as I display it in my home. I reached out to the Lowell Gallery and asked a few questions. If you haven't been on this tour recently, they have reworked the dam which is just up river of Mammoth Rd. Always wanted to see what the area looks like on land.
