A $10 entry (concessions and discounts available) gets you access to three floors of local and farming history as well as a range of outbuildings including a complete schoolroom, relocated original buildings and loads of old machinery. There's a beautifully detailed model railway and decent shop. The main building is also home to the tourist information center. The only thing I'd have liked to have seen was some more information about some of the machines in the grounds - I thought I could recognize or, at least, figure out the purpose of most farm kit but some of these old machines left me scratching my head.

This is a really worthwhile museum to visit. It is part of the Visitor Information Centre and close to the town centre. It takes a comprehensive approach to the wool industry in Australia that goes beyond the more commonly known narrative. The best part of the walk is north of the swimming lake. There is a canoe tree and other display areas. If you start from the town centre, there is a footbridge behind Naracoorte Hotel. Turn right after crossing.
Once the path veered away from the creek we explored the nature park instead. Did not have the chance to complete the walk, it started raining.

I was over visiting from the Uk when I was out walking and stumbled upon this place back in October 2018 without realising this place was here. It’s a very nice place to come and ramble through with plenty of wildlife to see and hear, even saw a couple of black kangaroos hop by. Pathways are well made and wide so would probably suit wheelchair users or pushchairs too. it’s great to see scrubland has been set aside for people to enjoy rather than building on. We had a fantastic experience at Naracoorte Caves, especially on the 30 minute guided tour of Alexandra Cave. We were lucky to arrive 20 minutes before the next tour and grab a spot, but many earlier tours were already booked out, including the one we ended up on, so I would definitely recommend booking in advance to avoid missing out.
While we waited, we explored the Wonambi Fossil Centre (included with any tour ticket). The kids had a great time in there, and I really enjoyed the engaging displays. It was the perfect introduction before heading into the cave.
The cave itself was spectacular. The formations are beautiful and the guide was knowledgeable, sharing plenty of interesting information that kept both adults and kids engaged. It is a great mix of being educational and awe inspiring at the time scales the geological features have formed in.
There is plenty to do around the grounds as well. The nature playground, open grassy areas and interpretive signage meant the kids were easily entertained before and after our tour.
Practical perks:
• Plenty of parking
• On site café with drinks and treats
• Accessibility: The cave has steep stairs at entry and exit with handrails, and uneven ground with low lighting inside. It is authentic and well preserved, but something to be mindful of for older visitors or those with mobility challenges. Parents carrying younger kids seemed fine.

Our group of seniors visited today and we had a great tour leader - Chin Wah, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. However, some of our group are elderly and need to be careful where they walk. There is some lighting in the caves and our tour leader was given a torch. This was not adequate for lighting uneven and sometimes slippery pathways for 32 seniors. The caves are worth seeing but there needs to be a review of safety practices -especially to ensure that anyone entering the caves will be able to manage the terrain and the stairs. It would be a good idea to sell small torches so that anyone wanting to have better lighting could use it to see where they were going and to better view the features inside the cave. Unless there are improvements I would never recommend this site for a tour.
