Wonderful place to go and spend the day learning and reminiscing about Dayton and all its contributions. Brought back so many memories and was able to tell grandkids about the places. So many neat things to see and learn about. They do a great job of restoring and maintaining the vast museum items and artifacts. They even have a working carousel and train, and you can’t forget about the working printing press. They have a great section about the devastating 1913 flood. This place is to be enjoyed by young and old alike. And if you’re adventurous enough, climb the 8 story tower that holds the old Gem City clock. So much to see.

New to the Ohio area and live about 25 minutes South of here so we decided to come check it out. Really glad we did!
First the people working here are awesome. Helpful, kind and informative. We walked the entire area, road the big train and even jumped on the little train for a ride. Little train isn't always available to ride but apparently we came on the right day...throws you back to feeling like a kid for a few minutes!
The grounds are kept up well, the walk is easy and relaxing and the big train is a nice relaxing ride around the park. Sit is the right place near one of the staff and they'll fill you in on the history and anything else you would want to know about.
The park is full of history. I had no idea about the industrial impact Dayton had on the country at one time. Each stop at a new building is rich with information and there are plenty of cool things to look at.
Wright brothers Museum was just as good as the rest of the park. Much larger than expected and lots of details about the Wright brother and their first flights.
Overall it was neat to be thrown back in time and see where innovation has brought us. Even if you're not a big fan of history, it's worth the visit to check out some cool things on a relaxing walk around the park.

My cousin and I stopped by in August and had a great time. We are both HUGE history nerds and just loved all of the facts and information that was provided. We did read everything and looked at all of the artifacts so we were probably there for about 90 minutes to 2 hours. We enjoyed the outside village as well. I think the idea of this place is cool, but it really needs some money put into it. I'm glad we went on a Free day because I would have been upset to pay an entrance fee for what is there. There is a super small inside gallery area. A bunch of exhibits were covered so you couldn't see them. The outside is a small village with two structures. It was cool to go in and see you those looked like. There are plaques with what is around the circle area and you can either scan the QR code to get that information or borrow one of their books to learn about it. I think that's pretty cool. I think there is massive room for improvement and making things just look nicer. I think those in charge could learn a lot from how the Great Council State Park was done. Lots of room for more hands and interactive things to keep the kids interesting in learning about our past. This could also spell more revenue from schools for Field Trips.

This place is absolutely gorgeous! We went with our 3 year old and 1 year old and because I thought I had seen a review that said it was *mostly* stroller friendly, we brought the stroller. There are several flights of stairs to go down and then back up across a bridge, then a path upwards that has large rocks in the path that cannot be traversed with a stroller. Upon arrival at the parking lot we proceeded to the trail to the closest troll. We intended to double back to the visitor center to pay our entry fee for our ourselves and grandchildren. I just want to add that I have experienced some great hikes here this year. I have been to Possum Creek five times so far in 2025 and have walked a different path/trail each time. I also just learned that there is a farm in the park too! I have a camping trip planned for the first week of June. I can tell you what I know so far about camping....I googled camping at Possum Creek and I believe the website for Metro parks came up. Possum has 5 campsites that range in the amount of campers allowed at each site. The cost is affordable but changes during time of year and weekends vs. weekdays. A bundle of wood is included in the cost but you may purchase more for an extra cost. All the information is included in the TERMS AND CONDITIONS. There's loads of information there at checkout that I didn't even think to look for when making my reservation. Another thing you should know, these are primitive sites (no electricity) be prepared for that. I hope some of this information helps. Happy Hiking 🥾
Update 6/4/25: just got back from our 2 night camping trip. We loved our site. The first night there was a lot of traffic in the parking lot, people in and out enjoying the weather. A couple argued a little in the lot but did not bother us. We had the Buckeye site. The trail to the farm was to the left of the site and another campsite (Tulip Poplar) was to the right. Up the trail by the porta potty was the "Lakeview" site. On Tuesday there was not a lot of traffic, it was quiet and peaceful. I do recommend to purchase extra wood, especially if you plan on cooking meals over the fire. I brought my Blackstone and cooked a few meals on it. It's a nice little metropark that is well-maintained by great people. Love the demonstration garden. There's also some livestock being tended after (do not feed). Nice camps - nicer fire rings than normal, trash and recycling cans in camp area, all very decent sized.

Going to the hospital was a bit new and unknown to my 3 year old (and me as his mama), but having this beautiful fun imaginative playground right outside gave us something to look forward to visiting.

She tried to walk up the stairs but the “whimsical” uneven steps and no hand rail prevented her from being able to walk up them. Such a wonderful local place to enjoy. These are three simple pictures that were actually meant to capture the awesome view of all the yellow flowers we had encountered in particular that day, but it gives a slight peek into the beauty of the reserve/park overall. Our favorite trek is going around the lake utilizing the trails in and out of the woods as we weave closer and further to the water. It appears that folks may be able to fish in the lake, but we go for the great walks. Depending on which way you go, you can spend five minutes on the trail or well over an hour. That's a really nice aspect is being able to choose how involved I want to be at a given moment for a walk. We also enjoy going up onto the paved walkway above the dam that offers incredible views of the surrounding area and wildlife. There are always birds soaring, critters running about and even turtles basking along the banks and on logs in the water. I'll edit at some point and add more pictures especially of the dam, but again there's always a different route to take and we as of yet haven't made it all the way around the lake, but one day....you have to check this place out and take advantage of what this park has to offer.

Beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature. The only thing going against it is the noise from the traffic but that's easy to block out, like white noise. Otherwise this could easily become a favorite spot for me.
I arrived at dusk so I wasn't able to walk the whole trail but what I did was very easy to follow. Lots of wildlife. Lovely area!

The lake is fairly large, but the actual park is fairly small. It has nice places for a picnic and some trails. It is kept up nicely. People fish the Mad River as well as the lake. It didn't seem very busy when I was there. I did not see any playground equipment. I always see people boating on the lake which is connected to the Mad River. The area has a lot of wildlife.

The previous directions were safe and legal. They now suggest going against all posted traffic signs and taking a left across the divided highway Rt4.
Please be safe and legal ♡♡ turn right, go up to the next legal U-turn at bath road and make a Uturn there to travel south on Rt4.
My favorite part is the lower parking lot all the way down and take a lovely walk between 2 ancient grandmother trees across a sometimes exposed beach and come out to a little point where the river and the reservoir meet. Tons of picnic areas one with an amazing overlook down to the river. Lovely place to walk and I noticed many people enjoying kayaking and biking there as well.
