バナン寺院近くに新しいのがあるが、こちらの方がおすすめ。

We had a truly memorable dinner at Jaan Bai Restaurant in Battambang last night as a visiting family of five. From the moment we arrived, we felt not just welcomed, but connected to something bigger than a typical dining experience.
What makes Jaan Bai unique is its purpose, 51% of profits go to an organisation supporting the transition of children out of orphanages and into better, more fulfilling lives here in Cambodia. It’s more than just a meal, it’s a movement.
The food itself was exceptional. We sampled a variety of local dishes, with standouts including the Curry Chicken and Butterfly Flower Steamed Chicken, both bursting with flavour and beautifully presented. For dessert, we shared three incredible sweet dishes: a rich flower chocolate cake, a light and fluffy coconut cake, and a refreshing coconut sorbet. All were fantastic (see photos below!).
The service was friendly and warm, and the vibe relaxed yet thoughtful. The final bill was $50 for the five of us, more than fair for the quality of food, service, and the cause behind it all.

Western prices of course, but I don’t care and am happy to have a decent glass of wine. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure I bit into a torn off fingernail in my jackfruit taco. Then they picked it up, examined it carefully, went to the kitchen, and at some length came back with a piece of cooked garlic about the same size and color, and told me I was crazy, it was just garlic. Can you even imagine, they tried to gaslight a 40yo woman like I’ve never cooked or eaten garlic before, as if garlic isn’t an extremely easily identified taste and texture? I found this restaurant on google while looking for dinner and it was a great find. It’s a family run business offering authentic Khmer food alongside a variety of other dishes. We tried the Khmer curry and mango salad and they were both delicious. In fact, we loved the food so much we came back for dinner again the following day and recommended it to so many people from our hostel.
All of the family members that were present during our visit were so incredibly warm and welcoming. We loved being able to support a local family business and try traditional Khmer food. My friend and I decided to do a cooking class with Vannak, the owner, which was a highlight of our trip in Battambang. He picked us up in the morning and took us to a local market where we bought fresh ingredients directly from local farmers. After that, we went to his beautiful countryside home, where he taught us how to make amok, Khmer curry, and a morning glory stir-fry - all using the traditional cooking ways. As vegetarians, we really loved the vegetarians substitutions from meat and fish. Vannak’s adorable granddaughter made sure we stayed hydrated throughout the class. We enjoyed sitting and talking with Vannak in between the cooking. We learnt about his enormous love for animals, passion for cooking and passing on his mother’s recipes. He’s been running this for 25 years which shows great skill, passion and dedication. We are so glad we got to experience the day with him. We found out about this place accidentally through looking for restaurants in the area. We saw this cooking class and decided to try it out. The owner was super friendly and accepted us spontaneously. The class itself was AMAZING! We gathered fresh produce from the market and proceeded to cook at his place. Small authentic house. The class was three hours and we enjoyed every bit of it. The explanations were thorough- he explained about the local goods and the cooking process. I had a great time during this morning!!! We first went to the local market which is very lively and where you can find a whole bunch of fresh produce! Then we went to cook everything we had bought. Unfortunately the main food I ordered was mediocre and did not match the reviews I read - the bread that came with the eggs benedict (large) was very dry and there was too much hollaindaise sauce. But I also ordered an Americano and a slice of lemon cake which were were good!
They have some interesting comics, books, scarves for sales. I bought 3 of the small scarves which were 6 dollar each. The scarves are priced differently - 6 USD for small, 7.5 USD for long. The staff randomly told me one is long, the other two short so I had them measure it in front of me and all were small. I don't think they were trying to cheat me - it's probably an honest mistake - just make sure you ask them to check the length.
I am typing this from another store where the same style of scarves are half the price in stores (3-3.5 USD, versus 6 USD in Romcheik) so that's disappointing. The scarves look high quality, so I am hoping the extra cost goes to the weaver/artists.
I didn't visit the gallery but the paintings looked nice from the outside.

We visited here on multiple occasions as the food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. Toot the owner was also super friendly and stopped to talk about his restaurant and Battambang.
We decided to take part in his cooking class- costing $15 per person.
This was a wonderful experience starting with a trip to the local market to see the ingredients we would be using and have it all explained to us as some of the ingredients are very different to what we get in the UK.
Then we cooked spring rolls, Amok, Lok Lak and a banana dessert.
Toot took the time to explain each of the ingredients and explain the importance in Khmer cuisine.
His level of English was exceptional and he was clearly very passionate about cooking.

I was kindly shown around individually by the owner to save me waiting for 40 minutes for the next group to arrive. It cost $2 which I thought was reasonable. Honestly the best GF/Vegan food I’ve had travelling. As a celiac I find it incredibly difficult to eat when travelling and basically exist off a diet of rice and vegetables but this cafe was an absolute GEM of a find and I think we ate here about 4 times during our stay! The kitchen is celiac safe (only have GF bread and flour, no gluten flour at all!) and clearly marked menu with excellent staff knowledge of celiac disease and dietary restrictions. That said, my stay was a bit challenging. I woke up to what felt like Old McDonald's farm—roosters kicking off at 4 a.m. and the neighborhood dogs joining the morning chorus. The room we stayed in was genuinely nice, clean, and comfortable, but the noise really got to me. I tried using earbuds, but it just wasn’t enough. We tried the only two dishes on offer - a kind of a chewy spring roll filled with tasty fried nuts or something likee that and a kind of a gourmet baguette. The spring rolls come with loads of lettuce, and head cheese. Baguettes are heated up and served with a meat paste inside and servings of pickles and some kind of luncheon meats.
