One of the best museum experiences I’ve ever had. It used a unique and attentive way to reveal this dark history, which made you feel like you were really experiencing the same thing with the oppressed people in the past and reminded you to remember it as well as prevent it from happening again. Let’s start with 10/10. Made our way to this civil rights museum from Nola with everything going on in the world and it did not disappoint. I honestly think MS was worser during slavery than Louisiana. I loved the separate rooms to sit down and listen to the audio files of slavery. We hated to hear it but it was necessary. I’m most definitely returning and bringing the children. Whomever put this museum together did an amazing job and more advertisement should be done to get people to come and see it. It wasn’t enough of my people as customers in there for me!

I go to most of the event that the museum put in and I’ve never been disappointed. This museum highlights all of MS history and it doesn’t hide who MS is. I must say tho as a person who has heard some of the stories from someone who was a child during these times, seeing it in a museum makes it surreal. Parts of the story is triggering but well worth the learning experience. It’s part of who we are as Mississippians and I’ll be proud to tell someone to put this on there places to visit if they are traveling through the area.

We've been to a lot of museums all over the country and this was one of the best. It is laid out nicely, in a way that makes sense, and is incredibly informative. It's a lot, so pace yourself. There's so much to see and read, it was incredible. I don't know how a person would be able to see both museums (incl Mississippi Civil Rights Museum) in one day. There's a cafe, but as usual with museums, the prices are crazy. $4 for one soda. There are some really beautiful things in the gift shop, so bring your money. We paid $13 per senior citizen that includes both museums.

Two state run museums sharing a building that are both well put together and leave you wanting to come back? Yes please! I started on the Mississippi History side and it was very well put together. Starting at the beginning, before the European invasion, it was nice to have things presented in a manner of fact way. The immersive videos really bring the history to life. First of all, my special thanks to the attendant at the front desk on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024 for giving my 23 year-old sister the discount for those aged 22 and under. This museum tells the Magnolia State’s story well, spanning from prehistoric times to the present day. There’s a lot to see. We spent just around 1 hour looking at the exhibits as we were in a rush; I’d recommend around 2 to see the History part of the museum alone, and then set aside more time to see the Civil Rights portion (we had to skip this part because of time, and because we were just at the National Civil Rights Museum two days before in Memphis). Tickets can be purchased in advance but are more expensive this way; I recommend getting them in person.

Since I volunteer at Two MS Museums, I have toured this museum many times but finally took the time to write review.
What I love most about it is that it is presented in chronological order and very spacious. There is a very nice area to sit on 2nd floor.
They also have several theaters that discuss certain historical events/periods. I love the short films because you get a lot of information over a short period of time.

Amazing museum! The detail and information is incredible. It is very interactive, and there are so many artifacts to look at. There are great films and sound effects. If you want to go through and really take in all the information, you could spend several hours here. I really enjoyed the common thread of “how we live” and showing different home setups and with detailed dioramas. It was $15 for both this and the Civil rights museum, and I found it well worth the price. Also have a great gift shop with lots of local pottery. You can get national park passport stamps at the front desk.

This is a Blue Star Museum
My favorite part of this museum was the GARDEN!!! It’s absolutely beautiful and has a very unique design. There is a Cspire stage with plenty of tables. There is a swing, fountain and so much more.
They have the 2025 Invitational Artist and Jerrod Partridge is the best hands down. His art is simply beautiful with his handmade paper. There were other artist who caught eye but he is THE BES!!
Stephanie and Stacy were so very kind and professional. You must check out the gift shop. The children you see in photo are in their summer camp. They wanted to show me how they hola hoop. The one little girl in video made it clear to me that she was THE BEST!
The museum has an area where you can draw an object that represents you! They have a book nook and area to create art. I definitely will return to enjoy these areas.
I highly recommend visiting this wonderful museum.

One of our favorite things to do is visit art museums, so we were happy to see that Jackson had an art museum. We visited on a Saturday and the place was not too busy. We paid $15.00 each to experience all the exhibits, and it was well worth it.
The art collection is not the most impressive I have seen as there were no works from any of the great masters. With that being said, the exhibits left me feeling uneasy and had an impact I had never experienced during previous visits to other art museums.
The "What happened to Dr. Smith" exhibit was really profound and provided an intimate connection with the artist in dealing with what obviously was a highly personal, and I am sure painful, journey. The artwork conveyed the sadness of the devastating consequences of mental illness and the history of the suffering of the afflicted, going from a promising medical practice to a state run asylum. I was so impressed by the personal connection the artist achieved in researching his grandfather's plight, and translating it into such an engaging, emotional experience for me, through some brush strokes on canvas.
The museum also explored other uncomfortable topics through the art on display, dealing with race and other difficult subjects. As I said, I have never had an experience where the art seemed to resonate so deeply to feelings that left me somewhat uncomfortable, but isn't that what art should do? I definitely recommend the experience.

What an exciting place! Admission is reasonable. There is a large parking lot. The day I went, was during a time period when they were doing an Easter egg hunt, and it was just too cute watching the kids going around counting. An outdoor trail of dinosaurs was lovely. Great museum that is fine for kiddos and adults! The seasonal exhibits are changed out frequently, which is awesome. The outdoor walking trail is nice, too! The staff is always very friendly and helpful. Recently attended a birthday party at the museum and it was very well done by the staff and Mr. Corey that handles the animals is an absolute delight! Very enjoyable experience. All employees were very nice and all the facilities were clean and tidy. I knrw that there was a few areas that contained live snakes but what I did not realize was that there were areas in which the live snakes were out of the enclosure and on the floor, I did not see any signs of warning about that so someone like me who is terrified of snakes really need a cautionary sign to avoid those areas. However we did enjoy the hands on experience and the egg hunt made it a little extra fun for us.

This is a great place to learn about Nature. Our Grand kids loved watching the baby Aligators being fed and so did I. It was entertaining to watch them grab their fish and take off with it. They have several live snakes and a lot of fish in huge aquariums. They have taxidermy exhibits showing animals in their natural habitats along with many Dinosaur bones. Got there about 9am and there was no one. By 10 it was full. I was there on a Tuesday and unfortunately a group of middle schoolers came so it was chaotic. A little disappointing how catered it was to children considering there’s a children’s science museum literally next door but it was fun nonetheless, even the kid games!

Southern hospitality is a real thing because I discovered as much in the Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson. As soon as my small group walked through the front door, we were greeted by the Capitol’s tour director. She asked us to sign the guest book and affected to take us on tour but we didn’t have a lot of time so we opted for a self-tour and so she made a few key recommendations on our visit. The photos show where we wondered around. On higher floors, we were greeted by the person whose job it is to lead tours into the State Senate and House. Our questions were answered by our upstairs tour guide. Although no state Capitol can rival the historic nature of the U.S. Capitol, the Mississippi Capitol building is a fine example of the classic look of architecture from Rome and Greece. If you’re wanting something educational and low-key, this museum is excellent. My wife and I took the older kids, and they really responded to the interactive exhibits about how the government works, the history tied to the building, etc. The architecture is beautiful, and it gives a good mix of history without being overwhelming. I came on a Saturday and there was next to no one here, which is surprising because this is an amazing spot! I learned so much about the history of growing crops and lumber in Mississippi and in general. There is so much that I don't know about when it comes to the production of food.
The outside is setup like a farm on one side and a small 1800s town. All of it was amazing.

Brought my eleven year old. He knows about much of this stuff, but it was a great reminder for both of us. Seeing the Gin was cool and the old houses. He was shocked by the school house. Our Women's Ministry group rented a bldg for our seminar and luncheon. The place was very nice and clean. We had adequate space for vendors and attendee tables.

We came here straight from the airport and arrived about 30 minutes before closing on a Saturday. Sadly we missed the tour of the house but we were able to take some beautiful pictures outside. The young woman in the visitors center was so lovely and told us about the audio tour as well as the flower scavenger hunt (for my kids).
