This is by far the best beach we found on the island! The calm, shallow water extends a good distance, making it perfect for relaxing. The long stretch of beach features lovely sand and convenient facilities like showers, parking, and bathrooms. Our only concern was the noticeable debris – wood and charcoal – left from frequent bonfires. Despite this, it quickly became our favorite due to the tranquil atmosphere, stunning mountain views, and safe, shallow waters for swimming.

This is a beatiful family beach that stretches across the bay. The pavillion is a nice touch and you see kids constantly climbing the metal ladder to jump off into the water. The water is very shallow for around 200 meters out which makes this great for families. Sail boats and a waterfalls in the background make for a great scene. A great beach day!

Visited in May 2023 and 2024 with my partner, and loved it, the views are simply breathtaking. Views of cloud covered mountain tops with waterfalls in the background with golden sand looking out to the ocean is something I will never forget. Sea is cam specally summer months, great for kids, Snorkeling and jumping of the peir. You can hire kayaks and other watersports equipment nearby, beach park has plenty parking space and has restrooms. The park is close to town so close to eateries, shops and places to ice cream and shave ice. I highly recommend if your visiting the north shore of kauai you must visit Hanalei Bay. it's a place I would go back to in a heart beat and would never get fed up visiting Steve and Jacqui fae Fife.

This will forever be one of my favorite beaches on the planet. There is ample room for so many parties and the sunsets here are the most jaw dropping and memorable sunsets I have ever seen.
It's super close and within walking dostance to the Hanalei shopping center. I always make sure to make many stops to this beach every single time I can. You just gotta go to see for yourself.

Definitely a popular beach around sunset. You can get some nice pictures with the pier, the mountians, and the sunset all in frame. But don't expect it to be quiet, and I thought these restrooms were particularly bad, even for a beach.

This was our second place "go-to" spot since it was a tad closer to our Princeville stay than our first place go-to. It is such a chill place-except the parking. You can find a spot but it can be quite distant. It's a very popular spot. For surfing it does have a very chill swell (left of the pier) leftover from the main break far out on the reef on the right (depending on the swell and its direction). During our 10 day stay it did have a pretty strong current right close to the pier which is useful for paddling out to the breaks. Again, it's busy so expect occasional party waves. You can jump off the pier but just know that the current fights you a little bit getting back to the ladder, the ladder which is quite painful to climb, haha! We really enjoyed our time here.

When the waterfalls can be seen on the mountain it will be a good 10 degrees colder on this end but the view of the waterfalls is spectacular. There is a nearby air strip that adds planes to the back drop of the bay. They land and take off on the eastern side of the bay and fly across the outer portion of the bay just above the ocean.
There are numerous anchored sailboats that give a nice boating backdrop to what you see looking into the bay.
There is a pier for fishing and jumping into the bay. There is also a river inlet along the eastern side of the bay with full access into the bay/ocean.
Weather may impact what you see, but it won’t impact it for long. Hanalei Bay is one of Kauai’s true wonders. It’s a beautiful drive to get to this huge bay nearly two miles in length. The Bay is surrounded by iconic, lush and green mountains and you’ll be able to clearly see waterfalls if there was recent rain activity.
The ocean here is typically calm and flat, especially in the summer. Winter is really the only suitable time to surf, by the pier especially for beginners. There may be times where you can boogie board, and it’s excellent for SUP. It’s not known for its snorkeling because the water can be cloudy at times and there’s not much reef to see.
Plenty of parking options line the bay, though I think black pot parking lot is best because there will more than likely be space and you’ll get the best views of the mountains.
Hanalei also has the pier that you can walk down and also jump off into the water. There are showers and bathrooms as well! Hanalei Bay is a Kauai gem.

Nice river and one of the larger ones on the island. Way less traffic then Wailua River. We started around where the river meets Hanalei Bay. The river provides you with great views of the mountains. Was a cloudy day when we went but still very pretty. At the start it was difficult with the wind. That did make coming back very easy. We SUP’d the river up till about the Dolphin restaurant and then on our way back went out into the bay.
Parking: You can park in the Hanalei Bay parking area by the Hanalei Pier. A good place to put out is on the beach near where the river meets the bay.

Delicious menus. Excellent atmosphere and fabulous drinks. This cozy restaurant was one of the highlights of our food experiences in Kauai. It is open only for 5 hours and still they ran out of bread by 10 AM on a Tuesday, AFTER the memorial Day long weekend! That's how crazy the demand is!

I stumbled upon this beautiful cafe during my trip to Hanalei, and it has an amazing menu. The only downside is that the kitchen closes really early, by 12:30 PM it was already shut. As we drove by coming back from Princeville we saw this beautiful church with the doors open. Stopped in and looked around, took some pictures and appreciated it's beauty both inside and out. We stayed in an airbnb real close to this beach so we came here pretty much every day for a week. It was awesome!! Pretty secluded and often we were the only ones down here. The trail lost people take down leads to the left side of the beach but you can also climb over some rocks to get to the other side which typically has way less people.
ALSO my family used a paved trail down to this right side of the beach coming from a group of condos close by. This trail is technically private to residents but uh we used it anyway and we’re never bothered by anyone. It is pretty steep but was totally worth it. Also, the snorkeling off this beach is awesome!! We saw multiple turtles every time. There are also lots of crabs crawling around on rocks that were cool to see.

But this was the beach we caught them swimming around. My husband had just gotten done snorkeling and was putting his sneakers on when one of the turtles popped up right where he just was snorkeling. So get out there with your snorkel gear and spend a bit of time, you might catch yourself hanging with a sea turtle! If not there's a lot to see out there and you'll have fun no matter what.
There is a small beach parking lot right off the road (might be 8 spots). We just walked there from our resort, about 20 minutes. Pretty steep trail, but if you take your time and use the rope rails you should be fine.

Public parking is limited to 8 spots, located just before the Princeville Resort guard stand. Cars were waiting for a spot to open, so we followed the advice from other reviews and used the resort valet... Cost: we paid for a drink to validate our parking slip and a tip for valet.
You may get mixed information from resort guards, valet, and concierge but what I understand is they can't charge patrons to access the public beach but they can "charge" for parking at the resort which is $45-50 for 90min. However, parking can be validated at the beach bar and we were not held to an order minimum despite being told by some staff that it was $100. We felt ready to leave by the 90min mark but this didn't seem like it was strictly enforced.
There are bathrooms and beach rentals by the bar which are available to the public. However the beach chairs and cabanas are reserved for resort guests only. We felt a little funny bringing our beach stuff through the hotel but the pathway is separate from the room halls and anyone we encountered was very friendly. All in all highly recommend!

The water is shallow, warm, and great for snorkeling. Even saw a few turtles while we were there.

We were very lucky to find a spot during our multiple visits and it made the walk to the beach a breeze. We recently had shave ice at Wai’Oli at the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay. We were not guests at the hotel, but came up from the beach to grab some shave ice. This is just one of several shave ice locations we tried on a recent trip, and posted reviews for each. Wai’Oli made a very strong showing.
The smoothness of the ice is excellent, with very little chunks of ice. The menu has a lot of variety, and you have the choice of five different named dishes, or creating your own. The create-your own invites you to choose a gelato or sorbet, house-made syrups, and toppings. Everything we had was delicious; I would recommend getting the Mai Tai gelato in your shave ice. The atmosphere is great: poolside, right along Hanalei Bay, with the mountains in the background. The only thing keeping Wai’Oli from being the best on the island is the exorbitant price. $14 or $15 for a medium-sized bowl. Offensive by island standards, but probably a bargain for guests at the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay.

This place is a hidden gem! I've tried a majority of the shave ice places on Kauai that use fruit-derived flavors (ie no artificial flavors) and this is one of my top picks. You have to go through the 1hotel and take 2 elevators to get there but it's well worth the detour and the hotel offers gorgeous views of Hanalei Bay. The shave ice is $15 but it's about 2x the size of your standard shave ice and you get to pick 5 flavors plus real fruit toppings. It's easy to split with someone else and the price ends up feeling pretty comparable to getting 2 shave ices anywhere else. Every flavor that I tried was delicious (guava, matcha, coconut, pineapple, and vanilla made from real vanilla beans) and the fruit was perfectly ripe.
Service was great, friendly, and fast!
To get there, you'll have to valet your car or park nearby, go through the lobby, past the concierge desks, take a right to the elevators, go down the elevators to the 4th floor, get out and go down a hallway to a second bank of elevators, take them down to the 1st floor and then go across the pool area where it's located along the back next to the restaurant. Again, a bit of a trek but well worth it.

This Garden was worth the visit! Be sure to make reservations but it seemed they still welcomed people who didn’t have reservations. When you head to the Welcome Center, be sure to go thru the shoe washing station!! — this helps protect the endangered species in the garden. You aren’t supposed to climb on the rocks and you are supposed to stay on the trail.
The Booklet they hand you upon entry is very informative and the self guided tour is numbered and easy to follow with historical facts about the plants and island legends. This place gave us a better appreciation for the plants & trees on Hawaii.

Limahuli Gardens and Preserve was a great experience! It was a bit of a drive to get to, and there were many one lane bridges, but it was well worth it! The staff is super friendly and you can tell they are passionate about their work by the way that they talk.
We took the self guided tour where we were given a guide book that walked you through the entire garden. It teaches you everything from what the different plants/flowers were used for to who once lived there. The view from the top is amazing!
Be sure to make a reservation as parking is limited.

We found this garden by chance and I’m glad we did because the staff were super nice and accommodating. We paid $30 each for admission and parking, you can save $10 by taking the shuttle instead and getting dropped off. The visitor center has a water station so don’t buy water and bring your refillable water bottle for their 7-stage purified spring water for free. They give you a guidebook and it’s a self guided tour. The garden was lush and green and the views of the ocean is breathtaking. It was a great walk after breakfast when it wasn’t busy and the weather was a little cooler.
