Several locals recommended The Red Lion. So after my Irish photography pop-up in Cromer today I went to grab myself a celebratory dinner. As you enter there is a large pub to the right and the restaurant is to the left when you are seated by a member of staff. There is a lovely view from where I was sat in the front but of the restaurant and the decor was great with many framed photographs lining the walls. A photographer is always going to appreciate that 😊 I ordered the ‘All 3 meats’ Sunday roast that should have included beef, pork and lamb but as they had run out of pork they gave me extra of pork and beef. The food arrived in what I can describe as ‘a mountain of food’ topped with a Yorkshire pudding. I cannot fault the food. The meat was well cooked (I ordered rare) as were the veggies and potatoes. The cauliflower cheese was delicious. The gravy also very good. I also ordered a strawberry cider from tap which was beautiful but as I was riding the bike back I had to stick to one. The only negatives for me were the knife provided simply wasn’t up to the job of getting through some of the sinew on the beef. And the price. Whilst the food truly was lovely, £21 is a bit steep based on my travels around the UK. I don’t regret my choice to eat there, as I obviously knew the price before I ordered and the food was delicious but it’s a bit steep for my budget to make my regular Sunday lunch venue. There are cheaper options, I think the 3 in 1 was the most expensive. If memory serves the pork was the cheapest at £18 or £19. Having said that, I couldn’t book a table until after 4pm so they were very clearly busy and based on the recommendations highly regarded in the town. The pub side was very busy and full when I arrived around 4:30pm. The restaurant side was pretty empty but 4:30 isn’t really a peak time for a meal. All of the guests that stayed in the vicinity loved their time, with many of them already planning future visits. We have also stayed in the hotel during the run up to the wedding and received the exact same five star service from all of the staff. Planning the event was made easy thanks to the Events Manager Roxanne and her wonderful team. Roxanne was with us every step of the way, no ask felt too big and she accommodated all of our needs and requests. We loved working with her and she made the whole process stress free. The communication we received was excellent throughout the entire process and on the day itself Roxanne did an incredible job managing the timings and guests allowing us to be completely present and enjoy every second. As regulars to Cromer we had enjoyed several meals at Sundown and were delighted to find out it was a licensed wedding venue. For our wedding breakfast we had tapas and pizza and a BBQ during the evening. All of the food was excellent (as always). We have had several guests tell us after the event that it was the best food they have had at a wedding. They catered extremely well to 75 guests with all dietary requirements met, no one feeling left out or going hungry. All of the staff at Sundown did an excellent job, ensuring all of the food was delivered at the same time, meaning no table was sat watching everyone else eat. They were warm and friendly throughout the day/evening and attentive to all of our guests. We visited Cromer for the weekend and booked in online the day before not knowing what to expect. It was such a brilliant experience, I wish we lived closer to come every week. We booked ahead and our pooches loved their reserved sign on the table. We were welcomed to the Cafe by the friendly team and they gave us water for our dogs straight away.
