I stopped in without a (recommended ) reservation at this historic witness home, a home that had a first row viewing to the Gettysburg fighting. I was greeted warmly by staff and giving an intimate tour by Debbi. Great storytelling style the vivid imagery made me feel as if I were shivering in the Attic during those three terrible days. Three sets of stairs, easy for most, watch your head and watch the skirt as you follow the tour guide. This was more than a tour, it was a step back to 1863 and intimate details of how the Shriver family lived.

This was my first trip back to the museum since it first opened in 2013. The museum was even better than I remembered it. The displays bring to life the time when the seminary building was treating both Union and Confederate wounded. This museum is very well done! You start on floor 4 and work your way down. There are elevators or stairs. The exhibits are well thought out and the artifacts are really interesting. Our family really enjoyed this place and the favorite part was going up into the cupola to take in the view similar to what Buford would have seen. Wow! We visited the museum and were so impressed. There are 4 floors and each floor offers tons of information and artifacts. I was really impressed with the medical displays. It really brings the human perspective and the brutal ravages of battle. The story of the Ziegler children and interactive displays were really interesting for kids (and adults!) Rob was amazing with his knowledge of the seminary and the battle of Gettysburg. He answered all our questions and explained the battle so we felt like we were almost there! Outstanding atmosphere! My husband and I ate twice downstairs in the Tavern and would highly recommend it! It is cozy, intimate, and feels like you are instantly transported back in time. First time visit to Gettysburg. We heard about this place and had to try it. We ate in the basement tavern which was super cool. Just like stepping back in time. Great service, great food and for a headline eatery of the town, the prices were reasonable. We were there for 4 days and chose to make this a place we returned to for a second meal. They had live music and the servers were extremely knowledgeable about the home and rooms.
I had their soup of the day which was a crab soup - incredibly good with great pieces of real crab meat. The salad was also delicious, highly recommend getting it with their homemade house dressing. Then we each had a steak, which was cooked to perfection! And of course the seasonal cocktails were made extremely well. This spot is worth a visit!

We went to the Dobbin House Tavern for dinner after a day at Gettysburg. The location was fantastic and the servers were very friendly. The basement tavern room is very cool and has a great atmosphere. The food was just ok but leaves something to be desired. We had the hot roast beef sandwich and the grilled steak sandwich. The hot roast beef sandwich was a bit skimpy on the beef and the sandwich size is on the small size. The grilled steak sandwich had unmelted provolone on it. Both were served with potato chips that clearly came from a bag. Food could be easily improved by homemade fried kettle chips and more attention to detail on sandwich preparation. This is a National Parks Museum. Right in the town square of Gettysburg. There is a park ranger when you first go in to give you a general over view of the house. The tour is free and self guided. David the docent, was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many wonderful details about the history of this house and how the owner played a huge part in Lincoln coming to Gettysburg. Extremely education. The home itself is incredibly done with pictures, handwritten notes, and short movies that really take you back to the year 1863. The display is nice but dusty as expected of a older display. Parking was odd tiny parking lot with no clear signage stating how to enter. We would have missed the show if the staff hadn't lucky heard the front door as we walked in. It would likely be beneficial to do before you did any touring also but, for us, afterwards was how it played out in our schedule. Took the family here July 4th weekend. The diorama is neat to see. The scenes set up behind the glass were pretty impressive. The presentation is a little dry but it was interesting to see the entire battlefield from above to get a better understanding of what happened during those 3 days. The gift shops were surprisingly big and a little too pro-confederate for my northern tastes but I noticed A LOT of shops in Gettysburg were like this. So just be prepared.

OH MY GOSH! We did the Gettysburg Battlefield Driving Tour on our roadtrip through the northeast last fall and this is easily one of the best experiences we have ever had. We requesgted a licensed battlefield guide and Paul Bailey was assigned. What a gem of a guy! He arrived on time and asked us what we were interested in. He proceeded to tailor his talk to all the things we wanted to know about. We requested a 4 hour tour. At the end of 4 hours, Paul (who had talked non stop already for 4 hours!) looked and sounded like he could easily go on for 4 more hours. We had barely scratched the surface of his knowledge. You get on a train car with actuators underneath to make it seem like you are on the funeral train with Abe. This is a Must Do for any family visiting Gettysburg. Our 7 year old loved exploring the different rooms- each representing a different phase of the battle- and especially enjoyed the hospital scene. Everything is hands-on, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. If you take your time and really help your kids understand and explore, they will definitely take away a better understanding of what happened in Gettysburg - through the eyes of real children who lived it! I took my eight year old here while waiting for my parents to arrive in town and she had an absolute blast. This was her first time in Gettysburg and this museum was a first for me as well as it had been put together after my last visit. What a wonderful museum specifically for kids! Our 10 and 5 year olds loved it and say it was one of the best parts of our visit to Gettysburg. While the house itself wasn’t built until 1868, it’s built in a very historic part of town.
When we entered the museum, we were greeted by Mr. Dave, who was dressed in period attire, who served as our guide and curator throughout the exhibits. We selected characters, 2 of 6 real children that lived in Gettysburg in 1863 who we would follow throughout the museum. the authority when it comes to Gettysburg story telling. He didn’t give us the typical canned or rehearsed stories. We were given this as a Christmas present last year and absolutely had a blast on this food tour! We enjoyed the new people we met, the restaurant staff and the tons of different styles of food that was set out for us and the great stories that our tour guide, Gayle Underwood, told us. She made it fun and interesting! Most of the restaurants that we went to were ones that were off the beaten path which gave us ideas for the next time we come to Gettysburg. We enjoyed Mexican, Pizza, Irish Pub, Thai, Ice Cream, snack bites and wine atbthe winery, and my favorite, a DELICIOUS crepe at the Creperie.
One thing I learned, do not eat breakfast first! I felt like I needed a wheelbarrow to drag myself back to my car!

We went on the Farmers Market Tour and Cooking class. Our guide Carrie (who was wonderful) and Chef Cory (a talented local chef with an awesome reputation) led us through the farmers market where they purchased a variety of fresh local produce. Then on to the kitchen where chef prepared a sumptuous meal and Carrie served and educated us on variety of local wines.

I had been wanting to come here for a while and finally made it out on a Saturday afternoon in June. I am local to the Gettysburg area and I don’t typically drink distilled spirits but I follow them on instagram and the food looked very good.
We sat at the bar and were greeted quickly by a bartender. He gave us menus and a little time to decide on drinks. We had a hard cider and an old fashioned. We also ordered some salads and I saved room for the butterscotch pudding dessert special I had seen on social media. Everything was very good although the whiskey in the old fashioned was a little over powered by the other ingredients. We ended up getting a 4-pack of their canned cocktails to-go as well. I had tried one of these at another local establishment and it was pretty good.
The bar staff were all friendly and attentive. The bar seating was mostly full and there were a lot of groups at tables. Even with the business, the noise wasn’t bad. We found it easy to talk and hear each other.
They do serve beer and hard cider for those who don’t drink cocktails or whiskey. But if you do like the spirits, they have plenty including whiskey, bourbon, vodka, brandy, rum, gin and more.
There was plenty of parking. Prices were comparable to other similar establishments we have been to. We had an enjoyable time.

We were visiting Gettysburg and decided to check out Mason Dixon for brunch on Sunday. Our crew had the most amazing breakfast. We had beignets and then eggs Benedict with brisket. We were fortunate enough to get a tour on the 4th of July. The tour had at least 30 people in it, but Yanni did an amazing job detailing the history of his business and the operations. There was a nice, blended bourbon tasting on the tour as well. He made us feel very welcome indeed. After, most of the members of the tour stayed to have a meal and drinks. My wife had the cocktail flight, and I had the aged spirits flight. Both were out of this world. For solids, we split the poutine and the goat cheese brulee. As someone who frequently visits the Kentucky bourbon trail, I’d easily pit Yanni’s (the owner and creator) bourbons with most I’ve tasted on “on the trail”! Stopped here during the week but it was closed. It is just on the edge of Gettysburg near the battlefield. I did get some photos of the interior of the building through the windows. I really wish it was open as it looked really nice inside with the Christmas decorations.
This was a motel location at one time but they were able to restore it back. You get a great understanding of what it was and the significance of the headquarters. They have plenty of plaques around to read. They even recreated the dog house for Austin. He was the dog who lived at the Mary Thompson House during the Battle of Gettysburg

Weirdly lots of places in Gettysburg are closed on Tuesdays, but Ronn was open and we went in. He was absolutely fabulous. We went Memorial Day weekend & absolutely loved it. Mike was our tour guide at the orphanage & he was amazing! So knowledgeable & the way he stayed in character is added to the atmosphere of the tour. We were a group of 3 adults & 3 kids. Everyone had a great time! I unfortunately did not get the woman's name who was our tour guide, but she was amazing and really made the whole experience not just educational but fun and engaging. Driving down mainstreet was like a travel back in time as homes and businesses that were standing during the Civil War are marked with a bronze plaque and easily identifiable. My Husband, Mother and I did the Bloody Cemetary tour and our tour guide was Dwight. This tour was really entertaining and informative. Dwight has a bunch of great stories and knows absolutely all the details pertaining to them. There was hardly a question asked that he didn't have an answer to. He told jokes, entertained the kids that were on the tour and was respectful of other tours and places. Best of all, the price was really affordable especially comparatively. I'll be honest, we walked by some of the other tour groups, our guide was way more informed and passionate. Also, it is a walking tour, however its not very difficult to hike or extremely long (it took around an hour) highly recommend this business and Dwight specifically.

We had blast on this trip. Lacy was a great guide; she provided enough history to give good context without getting too into the weeds. The tour was nice, a different part of the town than previous ghost tours I've done, and the ghost hunt at the end was really fun!

Did the blood hill cemetery walking tour while visiting. Our tour guide Dwight was phenomenal! Incredibly knowledgeable and personable. His love for the subject matter was infectious. We took the cellar tour with Doc and it was excellent. I've done the cellar tour several times over the years and this was the best so far. We took Ken’s Tormented and Lost Souls on the advice of Cindy. This isn’t your typical ghost tour. Ken tells stories of real life people involved in the war and not just soldiers. He shares the reason of why some souls cannot Rest In Peace and become tormented souls. He has a wealth of knowledge and you can tell he loves what he does. He went above and beyond and when he discovered we were staying in the two most haunted rooms of Farnsworth House he offered to come to our rooms and tell us stories pertaining to them. Great value for the money. Typical tour is 1 1/2 hours but he spent far more time with us as there was only our group of four. Highly recommend this tour.

We took a tour with Ken in Gettysburg st the Farnsworth House. We only paid $10 a piece for an hour long tour. We enjoyed it so much. Ken was so educated about the entire Gettysburg area. He didn’t say there was or wasn’t ghost but just told the true stories about the homes and the folks that lived, fought during the war and died there. This man was so good at what he did and his passion and love for the area and the men that fought and died there was so incredible and moving!! We highly recommend you take this tour but ask to be on Ken’s tour. For $10,00 you get more than a story teller... you get a history lesson and develop and understanding of what the soldiers and those living there lived through during those 3 days! Amazing man!!
