During being taken to my room she made small talk and after mentioning my partner was Bengali she seemed offended by this and walked off. After getting to my room and decompressing after my travel I wanted a cigarette but my lighter had been taken off me at the airport. I went to the reception to ask for matches and was told by the same lady "someone else will help you". I asked another staff member who gave me the Taj branded match box and post cigarette the same staff member returned and asked that I give back the matches. This was highly unusual for a 5 star hotel. Breakfast was disappointing and several options including the cereal had cross contamination from other products being dropped in it. During my stay I became unwell which as a foreigner travelling to India isn't unusual but after I contacted the local private hospital to seek help they sent someone to the hotel. I received a call from reception telling me the doctor had arrived but wasn't allowed to come to my room. I was told that I should give blood and urine sample quote "in a corner of the lobby". I'm sure other hotel guests would have been thrilled to see me urinating in a cup in the lobby. After protesting how ridiculous this was they finally backed down. Upon checking out I was settling my outstanding bill, they told me I received 20% discount off food and drinks. After receiving my bill I reminded them of this. The lady at reception agreed and revised the bill but wouldn't let me see the terminal. I paid the balance with tap of my card and no invoice given. Once I got in my taxi to next destination I checked and seen I was charged for orignal amount. I find this deceptive behaviour concerning and expected better from the Taj group.

When I finally moved to the upgraded room, I was shocked to see when I opened the curtain that the building behind was totally damaged and nobody stays there, there are several damaged buildings there which can collapse anytime on Hyatt centric. Their service is extremely slow, either they are short of staffs or they are not professional. I went to the swimming pool and ordered for lemon soda with salt and sugar. They forgot to put sugar and came back again and again to ask what is the problem without bringing the sugar syrup or normal sugar. 3 staffs came only to know the problem and wasted my 30 mins without providing that solution, sugar ( Ha ha ). I paid all the inroom dining in the form of pay as you go and while I was checking out they added in room dining bill which I already paid. Finally they said I need to pay rupees 3999 for something which was already paid. Since I already paid over one lakh there and they were so persistent , we even finally let go of that 3999. We booked for 5 people in which kids below 5 yrs were free stay. The location is good because of its proximity to nearby market and hustle street of Kolkata.
