Next came our burgers…we had the One Tasty Vegan: with roast eggplant sauce, onion jam, mushroom patty, crispy onion , tomato and rocket and the BBQ Cheese: with special mayo, cheese, BBQ sauce, roast mushrooms, mushroom patty, tomato and rocket. They were both so good! The BBQ cheese was full of tasty sauce and the mushrooms were a great addition. The One Tasty Vegan was my favourite though – the onion jam was delicious and combined with the eggplant sauce it was heavenly. We also tried some of their famous Risotto Balls (rice mixed with slow cooked onion, garlic and herbs and then different flavours are mixed through mozzarella or cheddar before being coated in rice flour and fried up) which were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and full of flavour – loved the sauces that came with them too. The food was not your average Chinese by a long way. We had 6 courses and every one was a true delight. Very hard to choose a favourite from the lamb dumplings, tuna tartare or the sea bass. In terms of the food some of it was great a lot of it wasn’t. Overly heavy with textures that dont compliment often tasted a bit sickly. Service was relatively slow and then we were asked to leave promptly after out last course making it feel rushed. The prices have also been raised which wasnt effectively communicated and from what I can see of other peoples pictures, the food hasnt been changed to reflect the premium. £40 without alcohol for what we paid for was definitely over stated and a lot of the dishes lacked basic seasoning making it quite bland. The 7 course tasting menu in this very small restaurant is a pleasure on your taste buds as well as your pocket. This was our second visit and one that closely but not exactly matched the first. They offer a changing tasting sharing menu and has dishes such as tofu and finely chopped chives. The crayfish, served whole like mini lobsters with a wonderfully fragrant dipping/slurping sauce made for a fun and finger licking freshwater course. The chickens feet and chicken thigh pieces with chilli, garlic and Ginger challenged most diners but not us. My view of chickens feet is that they require a lot of effort for a small reward. The first part I maintain but the flavours from the skin, sliithers of tendon and fatty meat from this Chinese delicacy was worthy on this occasion. Prepared differently from this dimsum staple and a less messy version. More dishes on this menu such as the mackerel and pork dumplings in tahini were exquisite. The dessert was a fresh summer dish of soft tofu, apricot grenata and cubed watermelon with a hint of coconut and topped with a borage flower. The meal was a delight and the two hours at the table flies by as you eat your way through food you might eat in a Chinese provincial home. With a constantly changing menu it wont be too long before we visit again.
