If there is any mountain trail that you are considering to do in the Olympic area this is it. There are switch backs closed to the summit and only that part is quite exhausting. But the view is rewarding. We also encountered a snowy slope in June. The trail signs went missing from there on, so we had to improvise a few meters. Hiking poles are really useful. We were told by frequent hikers that you can see a bear if you are in luck, and indeed we did! As we were returning back to the starting point a mama bear and her cub was standing next to the trail. We were prepared with a bear spray and container. We had a very safe encounter.
Parking area is large enough. There are toilets and a potable water area.

Gorgeous views and wonderful drive to the top, lots of wildlife if you come up in the morning or late afternoon. Was sad to hear the visitors center burned down a couple years ago, but they have a little pop up if you want some swag. 10/10! Hurricane Ridge was straight up a painting! It was absolutely breathtaking! We did Hurricane Hill and it took us about 3 hours total but it was definitely worth it. Saw a couple of animals on the way and on the trail itself too! Highly recommend.

Drove past the lake two times while visiting Olympic National Park.
Today, the water was so calm, it looked like glass. So beautiful!
Several pullouts along the lake. It’s huge so you get many miles to travel alongside it.

I took Bus 14 at 7:45 AM from the Port Angeles gateway transit center to get to Lake Crescent. It took roughly half an hour to get to Hwy 101 At O.P.I. which is the stop at which I got down to walk to Lake Crescent. Bus 14 is the one that goes all the way to Forks, and it runs self regular intervals. There was a trail right at the bus stop, and I took it to complete a short hike which was a loop that eventually got me to Lake Crescent. I followed the trail that led to a creek, then continued and eventually went to Marymere falls! I then continued back to go to lake crescent. I loved that the trail goes under the road - that’s so cool! I saw a couple of deer grazing, and they were so cute!!!! I finally got to the lake and dipped my feet in the lake. I saw a photographer with a tripod taking photos of the lake. The day I was there, it was cloudy and drizzling and it did feel like vampires were around (twilight vibes through and through)! The lake was so beautiful - the shades of green and blue in the lake were simply breathtaking! I could spend the entire day just looking at its beauty and walking along the lake.

The Hall of Moses is stunning, and the Spruce Nature Trail is amazing with its beautiful trees and the river framed by distant mountains. We went during the shutdown and during a weekday and had no problem driving right up with minimal crowds. The hikes are all extremely easy and offer varied scenery. The hall of mosses is the most famous and easiest of the hikes. While it was great, we MUCH preferred the other hike (forgot the name but it was the middle distance (1.5 miles maybe?) because it offered by far the greatest variety of scenery. It has the massive redwoods, halls of moss, Star wars endor looking sets, a river, streams, and best of all, 4 giant elk which crossed directly in front of us.

We really love this National Park! The rainforest is so beautiful with its layers upon layers of growth.
There are three parking lots so if the main one is full check the other two. The trails are quite easy and family friendly.

I was not ready for this much beauty! I am still shocked with how amazing this area was. Even driving in we had to stop and grab some pics because it's just breath taking. The actual trail looks like something out of a book and not real. We walked on of the trails, took a small break to eat in the car because it was raining, and then took off again on the same trail because we loved it so much. My first time in a rainforest and it's absolutely gorgeous! I did the Hall of Mosses trail and then the Spruce Nature Trail, both of which are easy hikes for families. There are bathrooms near the trailhead of the Hall of Mosses trail but they are closed right now because of the government shutdown, however there are port a potties on the side of the road on way to the forest. It's a pretty popular and busy area, but that's for good reason. It's definitely worth the views and I would love to come back ASAP. Please remember to pack it in and pack it out, and to not stray from the marked trails as this destroys vegetation and ecosystems.

Such a beautiful and natural beach. We timed it for low tide so we could enjoy looking in the tidal pools. It’s a relatively short walk to the beach with some sand, tidal pools, stacks and driftwood. We arrived about 9:30 and there was plenty of parking. When we left around 12:30 people were waiting for cars to leave so they could park. When we drove by a couple of hours later after visiting another beach, there were a lot of cars parked all the way out the parking lot on the sides of 101.

This is a hike that I have done many times, and it never disappoints. It is always a wonderful experience. The parking was fine and the hike is not too hard. It is family friendly, with lots of phot-taking opportunities. After entering the trail, you get a view of Lake Crescent, where you can walk along the water's edge (and maybe even skip some rocks). The water is very cold, but also very beautiful. Then, you walk under the highway to the forest, where you walk amongst magnificent trees. The forest is always cool, so be sure to bring a light jacket or hoodie. Finding a walking stick as you enter the forest is always a 'must', as it will come in handy and make a nice takeaway from the experience. After walking through the woods for about a mile, you come upon Barnes Creek, where you can wade in the river. Be aware that running water here can be fast and powerful, so use caution. Then, you walk over the bridge and enter the deeper part of the forest. To your left, you'll catch a glimpse of the beautiful waterfall. Going in the spring or after a heavy rainfall or period where it rained a lot will make for a full waterfall and a more majestic view. Once you're on the other side of Barnes Creek, you begin the hike to the waterfall. It is uphill and steep, which is why the walking stick will come in handy. Once you start your ascent, you can choose one of two trails to the falls, the first (to the left) has stairs and railings, while the second has only rails. Coming down, the stairs is much easier on the knees than the other way (pro tip). Once you reach the falls, there is a wonderful picture opportunity. Just above the first picture spot, you can walk a very brief trail up just a little bit more to another picture spot. Then, when you leave, you get to enjoy the beautiful experience again. Fun, easy hike to the falls with other more challenging trails for those wanting options. It says it takes about 1.5 hours, but we did it in 50 minutes at a fairly quick pace but stopping to enjoy multiple views and sights along the way. Crescent Lake is absolutely beautiful and so incredibly clear with green and blue colors! The Marymere Falls trail in Olympic National Park is one of my favorite easy hikes — super scenic and perfect for photos! I’m an elopement photographer and love shooting here because it’s short, flat, and surrounded by that dreamy mossy forest everyone pictures when they think of the PNW. The last few minutes go a bit uphill before the waterfall, but it’s an easy climb and totally worth it.
I always recommend starting the hike from Lake Crescent Lodge instead of the Storm King Ranger Station — that route is way prettier, and the lake views by the lodge are incredible. Parking can get busy in summer, but off-season it’s quiet and peaceful.
If you’re visiting Olympic National Park or looking for an easy, beautiful trail (and maybe a perfect elopement photo spot!), Marymere Falls is a must-see.

We walked to this fall before our time slot at the hot springs & it was beautiful!!! It does take about 30min there & back to walk it, that’s if your going at a good pace. I would say maybe give yourself 1 & 1/2 hour if you have children. It was so beautiful though so if you have the time, go!! It’s not too beaten of a path, pretty easy to walk. Does require some stamina but it’s fairly easy. I’ll say it’s easier coming back than it is going there. You do have to pay $30 to enter the forest & it’s good for 7 days. So see other things to do while you’re there if you can!

Most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Total time to get up and down for me and my brother (generally fit, 21yo) was 3 hours 45 minutes including about 20-30 minutes at the peak to see the view. I would suggest allowing extra time beyond this to sit at the top!!!
The hike is not an easy one, especially with a heavy backpack and there’s not tons of good views on the way up. If you go beyond the maintained trail it will be a bit risky especially if you’ve never done a real hike like this before. It started to rain for us and rocks were slippery but not too bad. Ropes to get yourself up after the maintained trail are solid. I would not suggest going at peak hours in non ideal weather because it’s best to only have one person on each ropes at once, otherwise one persons slip could wipe out everyone beneath.
Amazing hike and totally worth the view.
To get to the very top, there is a rocky side to climb as well as a dirt side. Both are good options. Since it was raining we did the dirt side which is slightly harder to get to (around the other side of the top) but easier to get up. The rock side was slippery but still doable!

All trails finally got something right, when it says it's Hard you better believe it because this trail was a killer for me. It's a steep incline all the way up and the countless of switchbacks felt like it was never going to end. I had to stop and take so many breaks because of the elevation gain.
We started the hike at 7am and it was a Thursday so there was only two other cars in the parking lot when we arrived. Start early if you don't want huge crowds and to experience the quietness of nature. It was about 39 degrees when we started and I brought a light jacket so it was so cold on the morning but found we quickly got warm with all the huffing and puffins we were doing on the hike.
Take plenty of water. We took about 3 liters each and that was good enough. Also make sure to take hiking poles no did not see one single person without them on the trail. It definitely helps especially on the way down if you're someone with achy knees like myself.
We did not end up going all the way to the park through the ropes. Big work = big views. 2880 feet in 2 miles, now I know is my limit. That trail was steep and very technical in spots. It was well maintained, even past the “maintained” portion. Bring gloves for sure. Those cheap work gloves with wax fingers are perfect. Then leave them behind for the folks who forgot theirs. The very top is worth it. The location for the lodge was incredible with views of the mountain in the background, and the fog made it look even cooler! The scenery is gorgeous. The pools are very nice. The dressing rooms leave a lot to be desired. The floors were slippery and slimy and there weren't enough mats. I only used the hot springs, but there isn't anywhere to leave a separate review about it. It was perfect after a day of hiking in October when it was still cold and raining outside because I didn't get overheated. Showers/restrooms were fairly clean, there was a lot of foot traffic so I don't expect 100% especially with the government shut down happening I'm sure that affects their staff. However, the staff working the desk were friendly and explained the process to me (easy: shower before, go during your allotted time frame). This is less than a mile hike to the actual falls. The hike is not hard at all. I would consider it light to moderate, but it did feel tough on my legs because I did this hike right after finishing the mount storm King Trail so any little lift of my legs to go up steps, was torture to me The trail is very beautiful with lots of trees and interesting mushrooms along the way. One of my favorite, if not, my favorite waterfall! Very crowded and parking can be tough to come by if you don't come early so just be prepared for that and perhaps a longer jaunt to the trailhead. Relatively easy hike on a trail with some ups and downs (elevation gain), traversing through the gorgeous rainforest. As you get close, you can hear the roar and power of the water through the canyon. It is just one of those waterfalls where you can literally see the power that water can have on an environment, in all the best ways. MUST see hike and views in ONP!

I visited this place in the summer and winter. Both times were absolutely stunning. You can't get up front and person with it like you can with other nature areas in Washington, but it is still beautiful. I think my favourite part was taking a small hike to a high spot and looking down at the ocean. The massive ships look like flies which works well to show the size of the mountains.

Over the years, I used to “drag” my kids into the car to explore the state with me. Sometimes we found hidden gems, other times we just drove around and ended up with nothing more than some quality time and a few laughs. But one day, we stumbled across Salt Creek—and that was it. When visiting Salt Creek, keep in mind that most the beach is owned by Crescent Beach RV Park so there is a fee to use the beach. Salt Creek Recreational Area is to the right of the creek. The day we were there was free parking near the campground area. When parking at the campground there are three sets of stairs going down to the beach. We went down the most western set of stairs. On our prior visit, we parked in the “lower” lot just to the right of crescent beach and I don’t recall there being any stairs. There are tidal pools to search. We saw sea urchins and anemones. We were also delighted to see a family of sea otters run across the beach and into the surf. Bring sturdy shoes for walking over the rocks near the tidal pools. This was our favorite thing!!! We got lucky and visited during one of the lowest tides in a long time. We were able to walk all the way out to the large stack and do lots of tidepooling. We enjoyed our weekend at the Lodge. The staff are very pleasant and eager to assist. We celebrated our 30th anniversary here this weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. We enjoyed a bicycle ride around the lake taking in the beautiful fall colors and then enjoyed a romantic dinner in the Rosevelt Dining room. After the long day and great food, we slept like babies in our comfortable room and woke up to the amazing lake view! The grounds are immaculately kept and it is nice to just walk around the property and enjoy the scenery. On day 2 we took the recommended hike on the Rainforest trail which was peaceful and scenic. The fact that the lodge was dog friendly made our weekend even better because out fur baby didnt miss out on the fun. Thank you for a spectacular weekend. We will be back in the summer.

I’m going to say we enjoy the privately owned historic charm of this place overlooking Lake Quinault. The rooms are still the original with old plumbing, and I felt the small bathroom was in a closet since the sink was in the bedroom area. Our room was clean and comfortable with no view. We ended up having a late dinner because we didn’t know we had to make reservation at the same time as we made room reservations. It’s better the sleeping in you car or camping. The website doesn’t make much sense. The food was great but not great enough for the price, $130 for two people. Views and location are amazing. It’s an old, historic lodge — not modern or fancy, but full of charm and character that you just can’t fake. The rooms and cabins are cozy and perfect for getting-ready photos. And I absolutely love their lobby area — all that vintage furniture, a big stone fireplace, a piano, and such a warm, woodsy vibe. The restaurant food is great, and that’s saying a lot for deep inside ONP.

We went during the shutdown and during a weekday and had no problem driving right up with minimal crowds. The hikes are all extremely easy and offer varied scenery. The hall of mosses is the most famous and easiest of the hikes. Nice place to visit and get a map. The road to hurricane Ridge is right there and you should go up there. Great view from the top in there are actually flushed toilets up there in a little mobile home type set up, but I would still use the bathroom at the visitor center before you go cause it may take you a while to get to the top. Parking lot is close to wooden ramp but as of Sept. 15, 2025, the local guide did not let us go down the ramp. Once I saw it from below I understood.
Instead it's about a 5 minute walk thru campsites and further down the beach to access the Pacific Ocean. Then a stunning walk up the beach to the Tree of Life.

The trail was well maintained, but towards the end at the waterfall there are some big rocks you have to scramble over. The trail was very well maintained and amazing! It is a trial that keeps giving through and through. The lichen covers trees are fabulous! If you’ve seen or read the twilight saga, this trail looks like the locations where you might meet with Edward Cullen on a serious note though, the trail offers great views along the way and is flat for the most part. The last few steps of the trail have a steep elevation gain as you inch closer to the falls, and the waterfalls are just stunning! There were a few people along the trail but it was not super packed! However I did notice an increase in crowd as time passed. If you want a more secluded experience and avoid large crowds, early in the day would be a good time to do the trail. I think I was there around 8:15-8:30 AM, and it was pretty good. The weather was also pleasant. It drizzled a little in the beginning and stopped, and given the tree cover, I couldn’t feel the drizzle. There are a couple of side trails that lead to more strenuous hikes like the storm king trail, for example. So carefully following the AllTrails directions as well as the trail markings can prevent accidentally moving to a harder trail.

The drive is pretty easy, be aware that the last 2 miles to the bridge roads are unpaved. The best way to access the bridge is by heading through the tunnel and turning left, much easier approach. If you want to enjoy some spectacular views and private "beach" access then walk like for maybe 15 minutes after exiting the tunnel and maybe the second drop you will come to a beautiful spot. The bridge gets busy, kids jump from the cliff and the bridge, the water is cold, you can wade in for a few minutes but thats all anyone can handle, I think it's 60°fh, not Atlantic waters! We had a great time on the Lake Crescent bike tour. Everyone at Elevate was very friendly and helpful. As a family of 4 visiting we didn’t have a way to transport bikes if we rented them so it was great that Elevate met us at the Spruce Railroad trail with all of the gear. We had a fantastic experience with Hayden kayaking from the Fresh Water Bay County Park. The equipment was in good shape; we were provided with wetsuits and rubber booties and flotation vests. After the comprehensive safety briefing, we explored various coves at a casual pace. Our guide was well-versed in the coastal sea life and was an excellent travel companion for our small group. We were lucky enough to view 2 bald eagles, various sea birds and waders, one lone seal, a colony of harbor seals and a romp of river otters. It was an incomparable morning on the water.

On one of my hikes in the early fall during a rain storm I counted nearly 50 waterfalls. The sound of rushing water was over whelming.
