Who knew we had such an incredible church in the Detroit area??
I wish I lived closer, because this church makes mine look like a VFW hall.
I attended the Polish Festival. Great food, beer and music.
Kabasa Kings played in the big tent. They got everyone dancing; so much so that the dancefloor overflowed outside the tent.
We all had a great time.

Very beautiful and ethnic church in Detroit! They unfortunately can’t offer the TLM there for the time being, but I believe it will be back before long. The novus ordos are very reverent and use the communion rail. I’m glad to see a lot of people supporting the parish and they put on a polish festival in August.

Amazing architecture and part of history. Attended a beautiful wedding at this church. I had the opportunity to look and enjoy the architecture of this beautiful Church the previous day during rehearsal. If not I would have been so distracted looking around the entire church during that wedding the next day. Must visit.
Now a plee for help. Please donate what you can towards preserving and maintaining this historic church when you visit. Currently there are volunteers helping out and they were the ones that helped us during rehearsal and the wedding. Thank you ladies.

My husband and I chose this church to get married in at first because it is the most beautiful church we have ever seen. Though the views of the church are beautiful there are many more reasons we chose it. We are both Polish and it meant a lot to us and our families. The volunteers who helped us with our special day, Therese and Carol, were so sweet and so helpful! If you want a show stopping church, I couldn’t recommend it enough! I attended the 12pm mass for The Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas. The church, built in the late 1800s, is a beautiful Gothic atmosphere. A lovely parishioner noticed that my friends and I were new. She brought us the sheets that were on a table and explained that the prayers were said after mass. The church and mass are very traditional. It brought me back to my childhood when we approached the altar and knelt to receive the Eucharist. Also, I so happy that I could light a candle and pray after mass. Many churches have removed the votives. A welcoming parish.

Healing begins from within, and it takes work. I can not describe how beautiful and serene this church is....the pictures will explain its beauty and architecture. The atmosphere was great....I attended wedding of a family member. The ceremony was conducted in a disciplined and time bound manner that included beautiful singing and readings. The Pastor spoke so well about the meaning of "marriage" explaining the duty and responsibility that comes with it for both the bride and the groom. It was a wonderful experience.

Old St. Mary's was a beautiful venue for our daughter's wedding. We're members of a large suburban Catholic parish, with a large contemporary beautiful church building, but our daughter wanted to be married in a classical church building.
We are very glad that she and her now-husband made that choice. Besides being extremely photogenic, many of our guests commented that they had never seen a church like this in the United States, only in Europe. The non-Christian guests at the wedding who had never been in a church before said it looked like something out of a movie.
The wedding organizers at the church were good to work with. There is a substantial amount of paperwork involved to get married at a church that is not your home parish, but everything went smoothly.

Words cannot describe the beauty of all the artwork in this church. The 10am Mass was a lot less attended than I would have thought. Music is heavenly. If there is a church near you with breathtaking artwork, especially if it is old or needs maintenance, consider financially supporting it.

Such a blessing we had today in the church today. Mass was simple & sober and a beautiful Catholic Church to begin with. We are Torontonians visiting Detroit..we were glad we were able to stop by to this church. It's very solemn inside. Parishioners are very loving and kind. I love the idea of the stone design where Mama Mary is and Jesus in the other side. This church seems very old. The design is beautiful and very high ceiling. There are parking area by the church. Such a beautiful church! I went to see the el dia de los muertos offrendas and it was transcendent. They had a small fair outside of the entrance with traditional food and vendors. The offrendas were so beautiful and always have such an impact on me to see what people have created as a means of celebrating and inviting loved ones that have passed on. I felt like an encroucher but the parishners and clergy were very welcoming. This church offers such a sense of history, tradition and community.

There was a wedding in full swing at the Basilica of Saint Anne of Detroit when we were there. Other than that place was deserted. It is a hauntingly, beautiful church, the well-worn floors, frescoed walls and ceilings, and the rich dappled kaleidoscope light from the stained glass windows bathing it all. It seems to be undergoing a restoration clearly well needed. If you love ancient architecture, this is a must stop.

I've lived in Detroit until I was 18 years old and had no idea that there was an underground railroad. To my surprise we were set up for a tour by my cousin and it was wonderful. There's a movie presentation prior to the tour. It's very informative it lets you step back into time and see what the humans had to deal with during slavery. This is something we cannot sweep under the rug it happen own it.
The actors and actresses were wonderful walking you through time during the 18th century. I was so amazing awestruck. And after the tour we went to the sanctionary it is so beautiful it took my breath away. It actually moved me to tears. The first congressional Church is a must see.
I highly recommend whenever and wherever you can do a donation for the church and or the exhibit do so. This is a piece of history that should never ever go away. I will be back on another vacation and I will visit it again.
The only reason we were 2 hours late starting the tour was because the bus is bringing school children and got caught in the fog in the morning and early afternoon and they could not travel.

Take the living history Underground Railroad tour!!! Cannot recommend this highly enough. I called to reserve a tour and spoke to Janet. She was so nice and even let the tour happen even though we didn't have the full 10 participants needed. The actors are all volunteers and they do an amazing job. You become a slave and its completely set up with scenery and houses that are your "stops" along your journey to freedom. You have a guide that stays in character to take you to each stop and teaches you about what really happened while on the journey. Seriously, this is absolutely worth the ticket!! It takes about 45 minutes from the beginning to end. You'll show up 30 minutes before to handle paying for it, etc. Great place to take kids as well!

Peaceful daily Holy Masses with faithful homilies. In the Fall of 2018 the screen is gone so the new Tabernacle is unobstructed and a beautiful Crucifux is now mounted above.
On October 9, 2019 pews with kneelers arrived! (from now closed All Saints parish).
Holy Mass:
Monday thru Friday at 5:30pm.
Sunday at 10:00am and 7:00pm.
No Saturday Masses (as of 4/20/2019)
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament:
Monday thru Friday at 6pm followed by Benediction.
Confession:
Monday thru Friday 6pm-6:45pm.

One of my favorite churches in Detroit. I love the mass here. I attend the 7am mass, which is incredibly special. I love watching the sunrise through the stained glass. Everything about the atmosphere is awe-inspiring, ethereal, and beautiful. I felt touched by the masses and by the beauty of the church itself. Going to early morning mass is an experiment I’d highly recommend.

St. Joseph Shrine is a very wonderful parish! The parish is under the care of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, and it offers the Traditional Latin Mass exclusively. The Canons offer the Mass with the utmost care and reverence. The music program here is stellar as well. Overall, I highly recommend trying it out!

This Church is so beautiful. I was drawn to St. Joseph this year so ended up at this shrine. This is now my favorite Church to pray the rosary. I can't explain in words how much I appreciate the reverance for God that is practiced here. I had to come to terms that I grew up with an improper Catechism at my childhood parish. The Cannons here teach proper tradition and it is an honor to be able to attend Latin mass here. I have develeoped a deeper understanding of my faith this year all because of this place.

Edit October 2023. Got to visit for Mass and Confession. Both were the most edifying Sacraments of each, I have been able to receive in a long, long time. Mass was done extremely well. Father didn't hold back in confession either, making clear of what is right and wrong, while also sounding relatable and practical. I left so refreshed. Definitely recommend!

I walked around back and rung the bell, a wonderful woman named Harriett opened the doors and let me in. This was the highlight of my whole month, the energy of this place made me feel so good I'm going to go back for Sunday service.

The best church filled with the best congregation around, everyone is so warm. The rector is extremely engaging and welcoming.
There are two Sunday services, an 8AM and a 10AM. I highly recommend checking one of them out. Childcare is offered in their nursery for the 10AM service, as well as, Sunday school for children aged 5 and up.
Situated right next to Comerica Park, this church is a must visit!

Review of the Fox Theatre – Downtown Detroit
The Fox Theatre is always a stunning place to spend an evening. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful—historic, elegant, and full of character. The crowd was wonderfully diverse, with all ages represented and everything from jeans to full formalwear, which gave the night a very open, inclusive, and hip energy.
The performance overall was great, and most of the sound throughout the show was solid. However, the acoustics were unexpectedly off during a few songs, which was surprising for a venue of this quality. Aside from those moments, the sound was good and the experience was well worth it.
A lovely landmark and a great place to enjoy live entertainment in the heart of Detroit. Would definitely return.

Rustic. Mariner’s Cathedral is a must visit for anyone interested in Detroit history. Popularized in the Gordon Lightfoot song The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald this small house of worship is more than a one hit wonder. An Anglican Church that opens its doors to all faiths and has lovely acoustics for its choir and organ. The current rector was kind and welcoming and even provided a good sermon. I think my favorite thing about this place was the comfort and prayer it has provided over its 100 plus years of service to all people but especially the sailors of the Great Lakes.

Disclsimer: I am not a parishioner of this church only a one time visitor. I also rate churches based on how well the parish and participants follow the General Instructions of the Roman Missal (GIRM) and my own observations.
The church like another review stated is rather unique in that it has three levels with two having alters. It's in a horse shoe layout.
Something to note: the Tabernacle was in the center - yeah!
Because of the limited space there they did not celebrate on the original alter but instead closer in front of the railing.
1. When I entered the church it was like entering a community Hall. People talking and chit chatting - since the layout of this church is rather unique in that there is no foyer it is understandable that people use the church to talk to each other. I personally would rather the church be silent for those who wish to pray before mass.
2. Everyone followed the correct gestures and posture positions - they do kneel at concecration (they get a star for that alone).
3. They loose a star for these three reasons. One because they held hands during the our father which I believe goes against the GIRM and two the kiss of peace was exceptionally long with people leave their pews to give kiss's of peace. Third, at the end the song Happy birthday to all those whose birthday it was that week. I dont think that is appropriate after mass.
Overall the church itself is very beautiful.

If you haven’t been down to the cathedral in a while, it’s definitely time to go! They have a new installation of saint statues and relics that is just amazing! And don’t miss the hallways going to the Administrative Center! There’s so much beautiful art to be seen! We went for the Rite of Election and one of the cathedral deacons and Bishop Monforton were greeting people so enthusiastically, you could just feel their joy radiating from them! Our wedding felt so magical and straight out of a movie. Having the live string quartet play made the ceremony even more beautiful. It was such an emotional day and there is no where else we would have rather have God bless our marriage! Mary and Deacon Chris are so wonderful to work with - they were able to answer any questions we had and make the process so easy. I never enjoyed going to Mass until I started going to Sacred Heart. It is filled with Holy Spirit, and the people there are so welcoming and sincere. Father Richard is great as well as the other priests there. The service and choir are very up lifting. I love all the hand clapping and sincerity of the whole mass. Took 40 4th graders here on a field trip. To experience the last stop on the Underground Rail Road. The tour guide was amazing and tailored the tour to my kids age, and interest. It was very affordable and lasted about an hour and a half. No Areas are off limits and the my students sat in the room where slaved sat awaiting a boat ride to Canada to truly be fee. It was something very unique and moving for all of us. I highly recommend.

Visited Woodside Detroit for their Sunday worship service. Strong bible teaching and gospel message. Members are enthusiastic. Downside-congregation was chatty to the point of distraction. Eventually died down but initially felt like being in a movie theater with unchaperoned middle schoolers.

This is probably one of my proudest Reviews, see I've been coming to this Cathedral for over 44yrs. I've been married here, I've even christened my own daughter here. Throughout the years it has always been a true beacon of faith and family. Please visit this magnificent Cathedral if for nothing else but to see the Art Deco Architecture and stained glass Artwork that reminds one of a by gone Era. I came here many years ago. That first day, I remember one of the priests saying, "You good people have one failing - you gossip!" It stayed in my mind because my former priest had often told me the same thing about my fellow parishioners at my first church in Michigan. The choir is heavenly. The kitchen staff is gifted. Sunday School staff is teaching the kids why they are there, parish council is looking toward the future...more later.

St. Hyacinth is truly a hidden gem in Detroit. First and foremost I want to say that I am not a parishioner, but only went to their 11:15am Sunday mass once. However I give this church a very high rating based on the following:
-Archeture: This church is in its original state built in 1907. It has high domed ceilings painted with gold and ecompsassed with a number of saints. Everything in the church seemed to pop with beauty and vibrance. All of the gold paint moldings, and trim seem to be as bright and shiny as it once probably was. This place is very well preserved in it's beauty. +10
-Tabernacle location: Jesus is right smack in the middle and he's hard to miss with the beautiful structure around it. +10
-Use of alter: The original pre-vatican 2 alter is still preserved, but it is not used in novos ordo. Instead a large alter with a cool representation of the last supper on the front of it is used. It didn't feel out of place. +10
-Kneeling: everyone knelt during the appropriate times in mass. +10
-Kiss of peace: the kids of peace was quiet and simple. This is my preference. +10.
-Our father: little to no one held hands during the our father. It was reverant and simple +10
-Music: the music was done by a solo organist and they played songs from the gather hyminal which weren't bad. No one really sang. Im happy that they still use the organ. +8
-Community /reverence: the community seemed to be a smaller parish mostly made of of an older generation, sadly there were not a lot of young people. But that shouldn't stop you from coming to visit this place. If this place had a vibrant community (and maybe it does, like I said I only visited once) it would be best of both worlds. The people of the parish seemed to be both reverant and respectful. +10
-The parish priest and homily: the preist was older, and clearly had a strong polish?accent, however he was both a holy and reverant man. He understood the mass well and served the mass without any frills as it should be. +10
-Overall: 78/80 rating. Rounding up that's a 5/5 stars in my book.

It’s disheartening to see how Archbishop Weisenburger has chosen to lead the Archdiocese of Detroit. In recent months, three respected high-ranking officials were abruptly removed from their positions with no transparent explanation. These were individuals with decades of experience and deep commitment to the Church.
Even more concerning is the severe curtailing of the Latin Mass throughout the diocese. This decision flies in the face of the reality that Latin Mass communities are often among the most vibrant, growing, and devout. Many faithful Catholics—young families, converts, and lifelong parishioners—have found spiritual depth and reverence in the traditional liturgy. Instead of supporting this organic renewal, the Archbishop has chosen a path that feels punitive and disconnected from the needs of his flock.
