I arrived just as they were about to close and the lovely ladies who worked there let me in for a quick look around. They hadn’t had a person through all day and they were still kind enough to allow me in but I didn’t stay long as I didn’t want to hold them up. Was just passing through so couldn’t return but will definitely make a point of visiting at a better time next time I’m there. Fantastic exhibits from what I saw and the staff there are amazing. Highly recommend.

Lots of reading information, lots, but also video.
Good for kids, adults, and fossils.

This is new to Townsville and a cool thing to see more so at night because she lights up. The board tells you what temp the ocean is and every 15mins she goes through the colour spectrum. We all thought she was lovely except half her face isn't lit, we thought was odd. Something different to visit along the strand

We really enjoyed the wedgewood exhibition. Signage was easy to read, gallery staff very friendly and helpful. The gallery shop was a lovely surprise. Featuring local ceramic and textile artists, we felt the work was diverse, interesting and affordable.

Visited this regional art gallery to view the Wedgewood exhibition.
The exhibition was well curated and very interesting. I didnt realise the extent of the work done by Wedgewood. The support to end slavery by the company was also something we weren't aware.
Lovely staff and volunteers.
4 stars given because cash was not available at the front desk.
We later were told cash could have been used but had to be paid to manager and he would purchase tickets on visitors behalf. Cash is legal tender and why should it be clunky.

Spent the day here when it was unbearably hot outside and couldn't be bothered exploring the rest of the city. Spent 4+ hours here. Staff and volunteers are all lovely and are incredibly knowledgeable (and chatty!) they're predator talk and turtle hospital talks were wonderful and very informative. All the tanks are looked after to the utmost standards. The cafe is also well priced and the food is lovely! I had one of the best caramel thick shakes and fish and chips ($8 for two pieces of fish and a serving of chips!) I've had in a long time. Definitely well worth a visit

Loved it! Lots to see. Could spend all day here. Glad we got the family pass for reef hq and the museum. Excellent value. Awesome talks and presentations. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. We love visiting here. Highly recommend if you are visiting townsville. Just make sure you find out when the talks and touch pool is on so you don't miss out or have to wait to long if you have kids.

Thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon spent at Reef HQ. The size of the tank is enormous with an amazing variety of fish species. What I really enjoyed most was the knowledgeable staff in attendance. I must have attended four different talks on various aspects of marine life which were all very interesting. Also witnessed the feed time in the main tank. Along the passages are smaller tanks with sea snakes, sea horses and many other marine creatures.
The price of the ticket is well worth it. I would highly recommend a visit next time you're in Townsville.

This place is awesome, passionate volunteers run this and it’s great to place to learn, admire or just relax on the lounges in front of the large tanks. Turtle hospital is definitely worth the visit as it gives a reality check after looking at amazing things. Cafe has tasty snacks and lunch, good coffee too.
Bought a member ticket whilst here and go 1-2 times a week, under 5 year olds free.

I've visited this spot multiple times, and it continues to impress with every visit. Located right in front of the Strand, the views are a perfect backdrop to an already excellent dining experience.
The food has always been fresh and top-tier. For me, their chicken schnitzel is unmatched consistently juicy, moist, and full of flavor. I’ve also tried the crumbed steak burger, which was incredibly tender and soft, with none of that chewy texture you sometimes get elsewhere.
Great service, beautiful location, and consistently high-quality food.

Went to have a Tuesday Half Price Steak, ordered well done but sadly it was far from that. I ate less than half of the meal and when Kayla came to clear our plates away she obviously noticed that there was quite a lot of my steak left. She asked if everything was okay and I told her it wasn't and what exactly was wrong with my meal. Kayla 100% agreed with me that my steak was nowhere near well done and immediately apologised and offered me a refund of the price of my steak!! I was truly in shock, but also amazed at Kayla's professionalism and her lovely attitude. I was feeling very disappointed and didn't think I'd return, however Kayla turned all that around in a second. I have been in hospitality for over 40+ years and I can totally appreciate how difficult it can be at times. But Kayla was (and is!) a true professional and didn't let anything faze her. Very solid pub style menu with plenty of food on your plate! Most days have some sort of reoccurring special which is usually good value for money as well, I recommend planning your dinner around those if you are looking to save a few bucks.
It is quite loud inside, and exposed to the road outside. Not so loud you can’t hear, but loud enough that it might annoy some people. I would recommend this location to mid sized groups (4-8), particularly if you are interested in watching the footy.
Service was polite and courteous, they were very busy and still managed to bring the food out in a reasonable time. Well done all.

Recently celebrated my Mums 80th Birthday in the newly built functions room. We chose the limited menu and all of Mums friends and family raved about the delicious three course dinner. I had the salmon and it was amazing. Allan our host was just fantastic and the service was 2nd to none. All the staff were super efficient and no wait for drinks or our food. First time eating here for a whole. The deck is now better covered than before and lovely and vast. It can be super windy though - and space indoors is very limited (needs to be booked in case - easier to get space outdoors).
Mid week lunch (not during school holidays) was nicely busy enough - maybe half full, service was friendly and really good.
Lovely selection on the menu, and I thought reasonable for location, but mostly for quality of food and portion sizes (the duck and the crispy barramundi on the small side though)
All very delicious, included the fish and chips (grilled barramundi), crispy barramundi, seafood laksa, bug and prawn linguine and duck.
Would certainly return and recommend.

The cooking staff seem to be unaware that the taco shells need to be heated before stuffing them with the meats.
It was clear that the shells were served straight from the packet because they were dry and cold. Heating them on the pan will resolve this issue.
Also the fish in the fish tacos were slimy…might want to check the freshness of the fish.
We are keen to come back again because I know the other food is great.

Great location beside the river. Service friendly and professional. We had the 5 course degustation menu, every course was delicious, our favourite was the spanner crab soufle, delicious. Absolutely awful food! We had a 5 course menu, the food was totally fat and over sweetened. A duck breast was a stripe of over salted something. And the icing on the cake was a so called tiramisu which was nothing else but whipped cream that a manager said was a chef's interpretation of a classic desert. The service was great though

I had high hopes for Bridgewater Q but was a bit disappointed with the food. It had a fantastic ambience and service with a fine dining feel. It started off well with the entrees, both the flatbread and spanner crab souffle were very nice. However, the mains left much to be desired. The chargrilled chicken was nice with the gochuchang flavour, but wasn't wowwed and I got a bit put off finding a few unplucked feathers in the skin. Lamb loin was so so. Brussel sprouts were great though. I didn't have time to try the desserts. Reservations recommended.

Downstairs bar is absolutely stunning in the cooler months, a hidden gem away from the main noisey bustle of Palmer Street. Decorated delightfully with SENSATIONAL cocktails accompanied by high levels of service. Thankyou ladies on the bar 22/08. We ordered from the upstairs menu which was lovely being able to dine in such a relaxed ambience away from the kitchen. The chargrilled chicken was perfectly cooked but unfortunately not to my pallet with flavours. Chefs definitely know their food at this establishment. Only let down was the dessert. I understand this is a remix of a classic however the serving size was tiny and for the price I was expecting a lot better, otherwise 5 stars.

One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to in Townsville with incredible staff and innovative food. I had the cured coral trout as my entree, and it was beautifully presented. Loved my main which was a duck with a lot of flavours and textures. And finally the desserts were all fantastic. We also ordered a number of sides and every one was amazing. Can’t wait to return.

Very delicious meals. This is my second time coming here now. The first time the service was amazing and the food was quick to be served. This is the second time and once again the service was absolutely the best. The staff were very helpful and always made sure we had water in our glasses. The customer service was exceptional.
The mocktail was amazing so pretty with the edible flowers.
The king fish & salmon sashimi was so fresh full of flavour and presented beautifully.
The calamari was one of the best I've had since living here the kimchi was delicious.
My partner had the Kimberley rump he loved it cooked perfectly Soft buttery meat.
I had the 36° cold smoked rib fillet this was such a beautiful piece of meat so tender med rare and perfectly cooked.
For dessert we shared the Melkert- South African milk tart this was beautiful soft silky and smooth.
I would highly recommend coming here next time we come back we're going to try the bar downstairs.

Food was not great at all. Spent $65 each person on a special passport which consisted of bao buns, kilpatrick oysters, scallops, steak and watermelon with prosciutto. The bao buns had little to no filling, oysters where so small you couldn’t find them behind the bacon and had way way to much BBQ Sauce, the scallops were old and struggled to even swallow, the steaks where the only good part of the meal but even the watermelon was old soggy and almost at the point of slimy. Overall was a very very upsetting and costly dinner. Definitely not worth the price for the meal. The cocktails were nice but the staff were distracted always. Very very sad dinner experience!! 😥

Went there for our daughter’s 25th birthday which I wish we hadn’t. Ordered the snitty, prawn linguine, skewers, bao buns, lamb pasta and oysters bloody mary. The snitty arrived about 25 minutes before any of the other dishes and my son had nearly finished his meal before the linguine and lamb pasta arrived (both were cold and the linguine was not even cooked). The oysters bloody mary arrived with no explanation as to their presentation which was not traditional but the oysters were nice and big and very fresh which was a plus. We spoke to the manager who assisted us with our concerns and arranged a refund of the linguine as we decided against getting it cooked again as we waited so long for it the first time. We also enquired about my bao buns at this time as they had not come out as yet. They arrived and although the pork was tasty the other fillings were not and the actual buns were not cooked as they were still doughy and pale. It was a reasonably busy night and there was only 1 barperson serving and 2 waitpersons.
We will not be returning and cannot recommend

We had breakfast upstairs overlooking the water and great views of The Strand. Cool Hamptons styling with friendly staff.
Wasn't overly busy when we arrived at 10.20am and were informed by staff the kitchen closes at 10.30am. We had to hustle to order, but brekkie came out in a timely matter. Eggs Benny with added extras and a Dirty Chai Latte.
Our food was served in a bowl which made it a little difficult to cut with knife and fork, and the muffin it was served on, I believe was house made, was under cooked and very doughy. Made it a little mushy to eat and hard to cut. One star off there.
Overall it was a nice experience, venue to go to and would recommend.
P.S. table 307 near the street was a great place to sit with great views. 👍🏼

Impeccable food & service 👌 we were visiting from Melbourne where we are spoilt for choice when it comes to dinning in great restaurants so we can say no bad about this place. Staff waited on us from the moment we walked in the door. Bar staff were very accommodating to making drinks that were not listed on the menu. Food was excellent! Chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Pumpkin was cooked to perfection. Potato mouse was also delicious with the smoked salt. The meat was the highlight of the night, the lamb was slow cooked and the meat was so tender it was falling off the bone. The Scotch fillet was also cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. Overall if you are in Townsville and haven't eaten here you are missing out on a fabulous dinning experience which also offers a great ocean view.

Nice atmosphere, table service friendly & efficient. Counter staff I dealt with was a tad clueless, did not know the menu.
Ordered Calamari with wasabi and side salad.
Calamari was battered, crispy and somewhat lacking in actual Calamari. The wasabi was bland, lacking taste and the fire of a true wasabi, as for the salad, there was just enough for a mouth full. It was limp on the plate, its only saving grace was the dressing.
My partner ordered the Crispy Chicken, whilst it was tasty, some of the chicken was under cooked, the coleslaw dressing was excellent, but the coleslaw itself was soggy and salty to taste.
We also ordered the potato bake as a side, it was quite tasty and probably the best of the dishes. Good coffee, same can’t be said of supposedly Freshly squeezed orange juice. That drink was watery and certainly was not as described on the menu.
The only plus was the selection of ice creams.. That was great, the serves were good and price reasonable.
All in all we spent over $80 for a mostly disappointing lunch.

We recently held our combined 60th Birthday at The Surf Club. It was the most amazing night due to the attention of the wonderful staff both event and catering. Everything ran like clockwork.
Sam our coordinator was amazing and so helpful from start to end. Her Team on the night was a credit to the Club.

You can enjoy beautiful sceneries while you are enjoying surfing.
This is located on famous strand walk strip which has spots where you can take awesome personal photos for your collection.
Also there are many spots where you can do surfing, swimming, football, soccer and also there are play grounds for pets on the way.
I will highly recommend to go for this Strand surf club, water park and also Strand walk strip if you are in Townsville (May be put half a day aside for this). Make sure to grab water and put sun cream to avoid skin burns 😊.

Great location. Great food. But extremely off putting to see all 3 bar staff on duty eating in full view of customers. Not because they were eating but because we watched all of them licking and putting their fingers in their mouths and not one of them proceeded to wash their hands before continuing to serve customers and prep behind the bar. Other than that the floor staff were great and friendly. Kitchen staff did a great job. So was just sad to have the experience spoiled by something as simple as a lack of personal hygiene.

Restroom facilities the best I've seen in for this type of venue (both in size and organisation). Food and drink prices excessive, but was not unexpected, so brought our own snacks. Location and large rooms makes this stay the perfect stay. However there is so much more potential for this place to have a better rating.
Carpets were dirty and had nasty spots everywhere. Instead of dish soap, I was given laundry detergent, even though there's no laundry machine for the room I booked.
Elevators were broken right after check in. Called front desk about 4 times using their phone to let them know but nobody picked up so I just assumed they were really busy. Walked down the stairs to reception only to find the reception just chillin. Not sure if the phone in the room even worked.
The phone was filthy. Dusty and sticky. Kitchen knives were not washed properly and there was food bits scattered in the drawers.
Overall, so much potential but needs better management and leadership to make the stay comfortable and clean

Great views and very walkable to nice restaurants and the beachfront, but the rooms are not as nice as the pictures. Just very dingy and ants all over the place. Doesn't help that there were crumbs left under the toaster from previous guests. The tray with the coffee and tea packets also covered in ants. If you can get over the uncleanliness then you might have a better time.

Disappointing Stay Despite a Great Location
My experience at this hotel was far from satisfactory. The front desk service was mediocre, and when I reported that my room was dirty, the response was nothing more than a weak apology with no real effort to resolve the issue.
The noise levels were also unacceptable. The hotel scheduled repair work at 8:30 AM, disturbing guests without any prior notice. Only after I complained did they put up a small notice by the lift—far too late to be helpful.
Additionally, the pool was not properly cleaned, which only added to the overall disappointment.
Although the location is excellent, I absolutely do not recommend staying here. There are plenty of other options nearby that will provide a much better experience.

We could not work the TV. Asked for help and receptionist was on their own and said they would try and get up there. It still did not work when we returned from dinner. We had to pay $30 for a single bed on top of room charge ( I was sharing with my sister).We felt we should have had option of twin room for same price as a king. Locale beautiful. It amazes me again to see lots of different opinions in review. It's true that this building is relatively old (50 years around?), but my room is well renovated and looking good. The only downside is the shower for hot water is weak, not sure if it's because of the room is in higher floor.
Considering the large number of rooms (around 168 rooms) with only 2 elevators, I am a bit surprised that I haven't experienced long waiting for elevator to come during my stay. It's hard for me to judge their quality of service, and I can only say that they normally have 1 staff only in the reception.
Most of reviews mentioned positively about the location and views, and I agree with them. I took a number of great photos on the balcony, and my overall experience is positive.

Stayed at Waters Edge The Strand and had a great time. The location is perfect, right on The Strand which is pretty much where everything happens in Townsville. The room was spacious and comfortable. They even had the air con running before we arrived so it was already cool when we walked in, which was such a nice touch.
We didn’t book a sea view room but still ended up with a view of the water anyway, so that was a pleasant surprise. Overall really happy with the stay and would definitely stay here again.

The air-conditioning rattled all night. No staff to ask about fixing it as they finished at midday on the Saturday. I have never known of a hotel with such short reception hours. Never known a hotel that you have to clear your own rubbish from the room, if you don't they will charge you. The rules were printed on a sheet of paper in the wardrobe. As were the fire evacuation directions. These should be placed on the back of the room door. Not stuck to a shelf in the wardrobe. We only found them because we got the extra pillow out, otherwise wouldn't have known they were there.

The room was extremely disappointing. Loud humming noise all day and all night. Add to that the 5:30 garbage truck next door and there was not much sleep. There were signs all over the unit warning users about everything and the consequences of they happened. And the reception was hardly open. A little noisier than we were expecting, and didn’t realise there would be a sports bar vibe as the cricket was on a big screen, but the food and beer were excellent and we settled in fine. Went here with some mates for a few drinks.
The good 👍: Spacious, lots of table options including booth, has TV playing sport. Good beer. The dark larger is excellent. If you like Guinness, it’s would be right up your alley (and no, it’s not better than Guinness 😤). Lots of car park, accessible. Toilet clean.
The bad 👎: it’s deafening because of the noise. Industrial design without any thing to curb out the noise. You can barely hear people across the table talking. I reckon some acoustic panels should be added hanging from ceiling would help. Getting sore throat just trying to talk.
Cocktail: only what’s on the menu can be made. At first I thought fair enough, it’s the house rule. Turned out they premix the cocktail and serve. The excuse is they don’t have enough time. I’m sorry, if you are charging $25 for a cocktail, you have no excuse using premix. Also, depends on who making your drink, it can be ok or terrible. My mate Negroni was made with proper orange peel twist and mine was just a slop orange slide topping. And yes, it is a huge difference in taste.
I generally would forgive the premix and even the badly made cocktail, but not a chance at this price.
If you come here I recommend stick with the beer / larger / ale. And if available, outside corner near the car park sitting is a bit more quiet.

Great location to attend a performance, with helpful attendants and easy access points. There is a cafe/bar just outside the theatre lobby and seating to enjoy a pre or mid performance beverage. The staff were so friendly and kind for my birthday celebration and remembered us the following nights and our table request. We had the most gorgeous view of the marina, castle hill and the sunset each evening. It’s such a lovely vibe on the rooftop and all the cocktails we had were delicious. We just had a few light snacks which were good so can’t really comment on the food. Next time we will go to the restaurant which looks like it has a wonderful menu. There is on street parking available (but if there is none directly opposite the sign, Dean St and Palmer St both have carparks available). Toilet facilities however aren't very close, with one option being at Bulletin Square (across the bridge) or at one of the venues on Palmer St.
During the day the sign is plain white, but at night time, it lights up - and the colours will change depending on events happening around the city or the world.
I visited here yesterday for the local pop-up Food Truck event, which drew a very big crowd. (The signage is pretty solid, and held up well to the many kids climbing over it.) When there aren't any events on though, it is nice to stop by and go for a walk along the creek edge wooden boardwalk which is directly behind it and leads up to the stadium.

Loved discovering this place! It has beautiful botanic gardens, a bird avery, a proper hedge maze (that adults can't see over the height of the hedges), a large herb and spice garden, a cactus and succulents garden and a vin-covered tunnel walkway (and probably more). Some of the trees are huge and made us wonder just how long they've been growing there. Well worth a visit!

NQ Cycle Journeys made our visit to Townsville the absolute best!
I rented a mountain bike to complete the Cross Triathlon World Championships at Pallarenda Park. Julia upgraded the bike from a hardtail to dual suspension at no additional cost which was greatly appreciated since the course was so rocky. And Ian switched my brake placement to avoid my going over the bars.
My partner and I could not have been happier with the Norco ebikes we rented and the maps, locks, chargers and panniers provided for self-guided tours of Townsville and Magnetic Island.
Ian and Julia picked us up from our accommodation and took us up to Paluma National Park for a guided ebike and hike in the middle of the rainforest. We had a selection of coffee, tea or hot chocolate to accompany Julia’s scones seated under an amazing waterfall!

What a great business this is. Just at the end of Gregory St in the CBD, but operating out of Ian and Julia’s private residence, which makes a late drop off possible with pre warning to them if they are home.
Their knowledge of bikes is second to none, esp. e-bikes. We hired three bikes and did our own self guided tours around Townsville and also on Magnetic Island
Once we got the hang of his their Norco urban commuter type e-bikes worked, we LOVED riding them. Awesome for getting up hills, so easy. One bike had a flat which we couldn’t manage by pumping up it up. So they came and changed it for us. Great service. Lovely folk. Highly recommended. And well priced too!

I hired an ebike from Ian and Julia for a week and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. The bike was in fantastic condition and they thought of everything including a detailed map with bike trails (all of which were fantastic), a lock, lights, holder for phone and drink bottle, charging cables and a fabulous bag that clipped onto the back with nifty hideaway straps that converted it into a backpack!
I felt very smug cruising up Castle Hill with barely an increase in heart rate! I’ll be back next year for sure!!!

Nq cycle journeys (Jules and Ian) were excellent, professional, efficient but also they gave helpful advice with kindness/humbleness to make our cycling event work. Like offering an old curtain to allow us to safely carry two bikes in a van, adjusting the seats to fit each riders height and giving us a map with specific points on to avoid too rough a terrain for our cycling abilities.

Lovey half day out for all ages, we would have stayed longer except for the event being setup. The maze was fun for us to play with the kitties and we had a ball talking about the volcanic rocks with nephew who is nuts about space at the moment. Personally the big Question is... why have 2 markets on in Townsville at the same time? .... both the Willows and Flinders street markets are very hit and miss, many traders can't justify their continued attendence hence when you visit either you may find that it was not worth the time.
