Vulugan Boulder Beach is one of my favorite destinations in Batanes, right next to Basco Rolling Hills! I absolutely give it a 5/5. The beach is incredibly calming and quiet, making it the perfect escape to unwind. The wide shore is covered in stunning boulders, creating a unique landscape that's a sight to behold.
Visiting during the Trike North Batan tour is a must, but remember to register before you go. The contrast of the boulders against the vibrant blue ocean is breathtaking, and it’s a great spot for photography or simply enjoying nature.

The nearest rolling hills to Basco town proper, Vayang (or Basco) Rolling Hills offers views of the West Philippine Sea and Mount Iraya. It’s the perfect place to unwind and feel the wind in your hair. Whether at sunrise or sunset, it’s also an excellent spot for taking photos.
I intentionally went here alone, though the slopes made it extra challenging. Thankfully, some kind locals offered me a ride going up and down the hills.

Very refreshing in the eyes. Sadly, we didn’t saw the sunset because of the unpredictable weather but it’s all good. The scenery here is so majestic, it’s free, no entrance fee whatsoever. This month is still a bit chilly so I recommend bring a jacket just in case you need to get warm. Overall, bucket list checked ✅

My hiking guide Richard was recommended by my tour guide Nelson--yes, they have distinct guides for certain activities--who also drove me to the jump-off point that was at the northern end of the airport. This is the northernmost mountain that tourists are allowed to hike, and has an official elevation is 1,009 MASL with a trail of about 4.16 km from foot to the crater of this dormant volcano. Around this time of the year, close to half of the mountain is covered with clouds so a view from the summit should not be expected. It's a very small place, but I really enjoyed this part of the tour for the following reasons: (1) nothing had been changed in its internal structure ever since it was built in the second world war; (2) there is an underground bunker that I have yet to visit because of the steep and slippery stairs; (3) it is a nice piece of our history; (4) I can imagine playing nerf gun war games here; (5) the place is also used as shelter by yellow pit vipers and white pit vipers. I recommend bringing flashlights that are not on your mobile phone. I intend to come back in order to explore that underground bunker

This Japanese tunnel is one of the sites to be visited on the North Batan Tour. It would be a very educational tour if your guide knows its history. We wanted to go in but the ground was muddy and our guide was worried about the presence of vipers in the area. Hopefully it would be safe when you visit.

Just an old tunnel that were supposedly used by the Japanese, I dunno if its for their prisoners or if its for their escape route. Nevertheless it gives you a glimpse of how nasty a war could've been if you're already born at that time period. The tunnel is pretty short and roughly 5-10minutes is enough. This was the first stop of my Southern Tour, and while the view is indeed very nice, it is unfortunate that bad weather has caused some damage, and so going down to the "shore" or even to the picnic area below is currently prohibited. FYI, two people have died trying to force their way down, and so i highly recommend following the danger signs posted at the area. I'm taking out a star from my review because I wasn't able to go down as well. But on my next visit, I hope to change this to 5 stars.

Alcantara's Guesthouse was the best accommodation for us! It's very homey and doesn't feel like you're away from home. We love how the place is planned out, with its beautiful pathway that welcomes you when you arrive, the dining area where we have the best meals and perfect place to just lounge and make kwentuhan. We would also use their kitchen for free which is a plus point because we didn't have to worry if we wanted to heat our takeouts. 🙌 Our room was clean, and big enough for us. Super plus point for having a very stable internet that allowed me to work during the evenings. The place is so near to the airport and to the plaza. We would always walk around during the afternoons, tambay sa plaza and just talk about how lucky and blessed that we get to be there and experience everything. We couldn't ask for more!
Our tours were well organized and planned perfectly! Talagang wala ka ng gagawin kundi magpicture at makinig sa tour guide. ❤️ We were expecting to ride in a cogon tricycle but we were surprised that we get to ride in a van, which we appreciated more because of the heat. We also had the best lunches! Everything was good! There's always a gulay and a fish dish that's very yummy and refreshing for us. The servings were also big that we would always have a takeout. ❤️

Just be careful of the strong winds, especially if you visit during rainy season. The summer heat will probably turn the grass brown, but I bet that the view will remain great.

My 2nd visit in Batanes and still, this place looks amazingly beautiful. It is a sight to see. The rolling hills of green facing the ocean. We mustered every step against the strong winds just to reach the tip to see the waves below. It was a cold and fun day for us. This place is included in the South Batan Tour. A must-see in the itinerary.

The Tayid Lighthouse is my favorite among the lighthouses I visited here in Batanes. It has a rustic look and feel to it. It has a breathtaking view of the cliffs and the ocean. There are cows grazing on the hillside. We can also see our hotel from here-Fundacion Pacita. Although we cannot enter inside like the Basco Lighthouse but this one is fully functional. It sits on a private property that's why it is not frequently visited. We did meet the owner though. For me, this is a must-see.

Visitor center is staffed by friendly Ivatan people and you can take photos with traditional clothing items such as the Vakul and Kanayi. It's one of the stone houses that survived a Magnitude 8 earthquake back in the 1910s (but it has been restored multiple times throughout the years). It's an ancestral house that is still being lived in. The stone walls are made from rocks and corals, and it's very thick — an arms length! The walls are made of big stones from land and sea. Some have corals in them. The house is small- no partitions. Has two windows facing inland. Flooring is made of wood. 22 Sep 2024. My Northern Tour started around 2pm and this was the first destination. If the name Patricia Abad does not ring a bell, ask your tour guide. Also, I was told that a lot of non-residents have had their wedding here, and it's easy to see why.
The chapel's stone-and-mortar facade with vines framing the entrance provides great nuptial pictures. You can see the sea to the W and the E (harharhar). To the north, during this time of year, Mt. Mt Carmel Chapel also known as Tukon Chapel is a small stone structure on the hill and is one of the most photographed chapel in Basco, Batanes. It has undergone repairs through the years due to the typhoons that hit the island. A cemented railing has been added on the hilly side of the chapel which was not there during my last visit. The interior of the chapel still needs to be updated. Hopefully more visitors can help in funding the repairs since this place is included in the North Batan Tour.

We visited this 17th century Baroque church also known as the Mahatao Church. There was an ongoing novena inside so we went to the Blank Book Archive at the back to write our thoughts on our visit here in Batanes. On our way out, we saw the smallest lighthouse standing just outside the church. It was a short stop but full of historical information.

22 Sep 2024. My Northern Tour started around 2pm and this was the second destination. We weren't able to go inside the office (Don't let its dilapidated looks fool you. The place is fully functional.), but it was nice to see a radar observatory all the same. The only thing of note, though, is the glass ball that they use to determine the heat index. This might not be a good place to visit for people who are only visiting this Island province for social media purposes. Snap a picture and move on.

The beach has lots of corals, so I recommend wearing slippers for comfort. One of the highlights was the colorful rocks scattered along the shore—I had a great time collecting them! There are also two friendly beach dogs that you can pet; just be gentle and kind with them. While the beach itself is lovely, we didn't swim during our visit.

First time to see this white beach on our South Batan Tour. The last time I was here this place was not included. I'm glad I came back. This beach is beautiful and is open to the public. More familiarly known as "Basco Church," this is located right in the heart of the town proper, just a few meters away from the provincial capitol. Upon entering the cathedral, to the right you will see the glass case containing a prayer that is shown in four languages: Latin, English, Itbayaten, and Ivatan. Opposite this is a reliquarium. The altar is much like other typical Roman Catholic churches. Outside you will see the usual introductory plaque as well as the Mission Bell. Even if only for its historical value, I would like to come back to learn more about it.

The food is a bit overpriced compared to its quality. The katsu is too dry and beef tapa is too hard. But i love their pastries! I think you pay for the view and experience and not the food. While we enjoyed our stay in Fundacion de pacita, my experience here in their resto is a bit let down. I hope they improve their menu!

A very beautiful cafe with beautiful sunset views. The restaurant is in an elegant building with a museum underground showcasing Pacita Abad’s works of art (Filipina ivatan-american artist, it was also her home). The garden is very pretty that’s why we had our cocktails-The Tiang colada (refreshing), negroni and caccio de pepe (breadsticks with garlic and cream cheese, so good!). Our main was seared yellow fin tuna, this was really good! Did not fancy the grilled octopus, it was the tiny tentacles, too tender and not grilled the way Im used to. Bruschetta was ok, not a fan of the bread and it only had tomatoes. The watermelon salad was literally just a watermelon, no greens, although the fruit was very sweet. The staff were nice, although the receptionist wasn’t so helpful, did not go the extra mile to get us a trycicle ride home. You need to make a reservation to eat here and make sure you arrange for a ride back as it was not easy for us to get one!

This place is one of a must-try based on Batanes trips and travel vlogs. So we decided to have our last dinner in Basco here before we head back to Manila.
We were the only customers for dine in that late afternoon since it was raining cats and dogs. No staff tried to welcome us with umbrella when we alight the tricycle. Upon entry, theyre seem short staffed but we were seated by the window, one of the best table with green hills view. We ordered and the staff patiently took and served after about 30minutes, typical of restaurant set-up.
The menu indeed is priciest among all the restaurants we have tried in both basco and sabtang island. But the indoor dining is indeed instagram worthy and perfectbackdrop when you’re dining with that floral dress or summer shirts.
Taste-wise:
- entree 3/5⭐️, love the pesto dip but portion is very small
- Arayu pasta 2/5⭐️, maybe i’m not a fan of white sauce..

⚠️As safety precaution for next customers, please provide lighting at night (or motion-detect lighting) along the path going back the main road. It was almost pitch blackand was raining (night when Typhoon Emong entered PAR) when we walked back. I slipped and got scrapes on my left knee.
Also, kindly review the menu. We don’d mind paying more for food as long as it matches the food quality and portion. As fellow filipino, let us uphold filipino owned destination restaurants with pride! I hope to be back on a summer and revisit your place 😊
Tip: For sure table spot, ask your tour guide to call in advance to confirm. From Basco center, tricycle service costs 400-500 for two way. I think this is best visited for morning or afternoon dining where the view of hills and ocean by the park is best appreciated

We had a leisurely walk along the port and had fun taking photos . The water was so clear you can actually see the bottom of the seaport bed. Small fishing boats come and go. It's fascinating to watch them park like cars. Our guide said this place was turned into a temporary quarantine facility during the lockdown. This place is part of the South Batan Tour.

I liked the quesadilla, but the bolognese part really tasted generic. The carbonara, while saucy, felt a bit dry instead of creamy. They also hand-knead the pizza dough, but they only serve 12" and 16" pizzas. They also deliver, so that's a point for them. Including a can of soda, I paid 385 PHP, which I would say is a bit high considering that my food was not really something to write home about. I might return and try the pizza, though.

Love this little place! Gives off chill afternoon as you hang out with the people you love. Love their pizza since it’s brick-oven baked, we had their supreme. It’s more than enough for the two of us and their carbonara is good in a sense the sauce tastes like it’s made with labor but it’s kinda dry; maybe a little more mushroom, make the pepperoni slices a little bit bigger if they’re aiming for the color to standout, and parsley! If I had left a review a few years back during my first time eating pizza at Casa Napoli, it would have been all 5 stars cos I enjoyed so much the food and time spent there. Then. This time, though, I ordered margherita and had tasted in my mind the basil, tomato, and cheese as I waited for my order. I said, for take out, and sat on one of their benches. I waited almost 30 mins, thinking a good pizza takes time to be served only to realize that the table who ordered after I did were already eating theirs. Sigh. I was just there, and the server could not be bothered to call my name or take the box of pizza to me. I sat almost in front of their counter! When I went up to the counter and asked for my order, the staff just picked it up and handed it to me. What??? I let it pass and made my merry way back to my inn, cos I was tired and wanted to enjoy my pizza all alone and quiet. I opened the box, and the excitement was zapped out of me because there's no BASIL in this MARGHERITA. Ok, calm down. Maybe they have a different style. Maybe it's mixed with the sauce. So I took a slice and... no no. No basil aroma or taste. So what pizza did I just order? TOMATO AND 2 CHEESES? Their menu says: Pomodoro, Basil, Parmesan, Mozarella cheese 💔
They responded in Messenger that they forgot to tell me there's no basil at this time cos they don't have stock. If they told me I could have ordered pepperoni or the Ivatan flavor instead.

Villa de Babat is Located just across the Airport. The Entrance is located 1 Minute 30 Seconds by Tricycle! And around 3 Mins Walk and much less if you will Run. According to the Hotel Staff there was a side entrance going to the Airport and they just had to cross but after the Pandemic it was pernanently closed.
The Room i got was the Deluxe Cottage which costs P3,800/ night and Includes Breakfast and Airport Transfer. The room has a Queen Sized bed which was Comfortable and 2 Pillows, if you will request for Extra Pillows you will be Charged P50 per pillow. Inside room is a Microwave, Desk, Table for 2, Himalayan Salt Lamp, An Abundance of Outlets! And a Folding Sofa.They also provide Slippers. Bathroom has Hot Shower, Bath Gel and Shampoo, Soap, No Toothbrush Provided.
Wifi Unfortunately is Weak as the Deluxe Cottage is a Stand Alone Unit located outside the Main Building. But outside the Cottage, Wifi is of decent speed. If you want faster speed go to the Lobby as the Starlink Wifi Router is located there. They also have an Honesty Corner where you can get Snacks and Drinks.
Breakfast is served from 5 to 9am. Be sure to mention if you have any Food Restrictions. 1st Day Breakfast was Dried Fish with Steamed Rice, Sunnyside Up egg and apple Slices plus Coffee. 2nd Day Breakfast was Tocino, Steamed Rice, Egg and Papaya Slices.

I would highly recommend Villa de Babat for anyone visiting Batanes. This beautiful oasis is steps from the airport and main streets of Basco, making it the perfect location for everything you need! The villa offers a lush courtyard filled with many unique plants and a vertical garden. There’s plenty of room to sit and relax as well as activities you can do such as putt on their mini putt area and take a dip in the swimming pool. The staff are warm and helpful and made us feel at home. Bedroom was everything we needed with AirCon which ensured we had a comfortable rest. We can’t wait to stay here again!

23 Sep 2024, 4-5pm. You can reach this "fortress" rock via a quick hike from the Tukon Chapel. Climbing the rock itself may require holding on to tree roots, but the elevation is low it should be manageable even to new climbers. There might be another way to climb the rock, but it was getting dark so I didn't have time to scout it out. Anyway, I recommend visiting this place and make sure to ask your guide about its cultural and historical value. It provides a nice 360 view, so shutter-happy folks might find this place good for social media postings.

22 Sep 2024. My Northern Tour started around 2pm and this was the last destination. Upon arriving, you will be met by a huge "I [heart] Batanes" picture area. The view deck is on the fourth floor (the fifth floor houses the light, but is a prohibited area), and each floor has a mural. This being a lighthouse, the open sea is an obvious view (west), but you can also see Batanes Pier, the Chawa view deck, and even Mt. Matarem to the south, the municipal cemetery and the town proper to the east, and, as with any other destination of the Northern Tour, Mt. Iraya. When I came back a few days, after TS Julian, the lighthouse was understandably closed, but the view remains magnificent.
