Wow!! Small but mighty!! I’ve lived on the central coast for almost 30 years and have been visiting the museum throughout that time. In the past 5 years SLOMA has really upped its game! They went from a regional art center gallery(which was nice, but the county already has several of those), to a relevant contemporary art museum. They’re making incredible art from all over the world accessible to our central coast communities. I’m beyond grateful for this space.
They also offer free art activities once a month for kids and families, and free exhibition related programming like workshops and panel discussions. If you visit between 5-8pm on the first Friday of the month there’s a free party with wine and DJ’s. It’s impressive how much this small institution positively impacts our slice of California. If I could give it a gazillion stars, I would!

The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art may be small and cozy, but it’s definitely worth a visit. The exhibits make great use of the space, showcasing interesting and thoughtful works of art. We especially appreciated that there was even a fun section for kids to enjoy themselves, which made the experience more family-friendly.

Looked forward to go to this museum. The commercials showed beautiful art. I didn't realize it was only 2 rooms and the exhibits were minimal. I did appreciate that there was no charge to visit. We had wanted to go to children's museum but they wouldn't let us in without a child.

This establishment does art an injustice. O if we were to show our predecessors this art they certainly would call it the progeny of a selfish mind. Subjectivism has truly done irreparable damage to the arts. The art shown at this gallery does not engage in the great conversation but instead is a physical manifestation of the society's rambling and disorderly mind. Great art does not come from expressing one's "true" experiences and emotions. Great art is an accurate and beautiful representation of Truth. Was not Shakespeare a wealthy participant of the King's Company? And was not Chaucer a courtier? Milton the son of a bondsman? Virgil hired by the empire?
This "museum" contributes to the ever degrading status of art and is why people laugh at those who go to university to study art and its wonders. It is this types of "museum" that I hope to see feel the pressure from AI art. For what would be more just than if subjectivist artists rally against the subjective attractiveness of AI generated art only to fall to their own standards? I imagine it won't be long.

The Museum of Art has reopened. I was there on their reopening day. It was free, masks required and the front and back doors were open for ventilation. And it is very small so it’s easy to see everything in 10 minutes.
The theme was the ocean and it was interesting especially the water feature. The wooden pieces on the other side with posh undergarments were odd.
Good to support the arts and hopefully people will make a donation.

This place was highly informative. Very educational and entertaining. I was thoroughly impressed with the history of San Luis Obispo and especially enjoyed hearing the local history of the internment camps that help Japanese Americans. A video was playing in the media room but I was enthralled with all.of the pictures and displays they had. For filling out a brief survey I received a free postcard of my choosing. We originally went here in search of family records. We were sent downstairs and was met with an individual who acted like we were wasting her time. We went back upstairs and were looking around when we overheard a very loud conversation between two women and a male who sits at a small desk when you first walk in. He made comments like “Americans think they are the best but they really are a horrible people. And America thinks it’s the best country in the world but they are really one of the worst.” I told my husband I was leaving because I could listen the the anti American bs anymore. As we left my husband stopped and told him he should stop bashing America, it’s a great country.

If you're limited on time and it's the weekend, prioritize a visit to the History Center-operated Dallidet Adobe and Gardens, where you'll get a better sense of early SLO history.
The SLO History Center is located in the beautifully maintained Carnegie Library. Unfortunately the museum has few exhibits or artifacts on display relating the city's history but just a few small temporary shows about segments of the population. Truly it's a missed opportunity!
Another better choice for learning about SLO's history is the SLO Railroad Museum, open only on Saturday.

This is a fun historical location for both locals and travelers. There are always activities and entertainment on the weekends in the park. They have daily tours of commission. Plus the mission is still operational mass services daily. The garden is cute, and the people are very friendly and knowledgeable. We have visited so many Missions, but seemed to have spaced on this one. We walked through the facility and it's beautiful! Well maintained and 100% open to the public to check out. You know who wer are a family a local family of 6 and I brought my husband with me when I stood in line to ask for a huge need as we're walking a traumatic crisis with a cancer diagnosis. Yet, we got zero helped. I walked away in rage and in tears as me first review was to the point and in depth more to the detail. But here I am laying down homeless yes we're now homeless now , we live in our vehicle and hotels and yet you wrote a check for mental mother for $1800 bucks and offered us literally 1 clothing voucher for my children. I was kinda bummed when the guy was kinda smug and didn’t let me buy a ticket inside, making me go outside for I don’t know what reason, but the theater is super charming and the crowd was super into the movie. I loved this movie theater experience. Solid popcorn too. And great prices. Also, the stuff they’re screening is 👌. Almodóvar and Jackie Chan on the same day is class. Got invited by some friends to go catch a sweet 80's movie they were showing. We hadn't been here in years and it was a great time! Seats, screen, and audio are sweet, and they have a cool schedule with a wide variety of screenings. Staff was super cool and they introduced the showing with some cool info on the production and it's history and why they wanted to show it. I love this cute little shopping center tucked into down town San Luis Obispo. From the outside it doesn't look like much but there's a few places inside. There have been a few small businesses coming in and out of some of the spaces available but always cool stuff to see. The staff at this theater honestly deserve a medal. We saw the Minecraft movie, and while most of the crowd was just there to have fun (air horns, confetti, cheering—it was a unexpected blast), three older teens near us were incredibly disruptive. They screamed curse words, blasted music mid-movie, spit on people (and then tried to fight them), and even threw soda. It could’ve ruined the night, but the staff handled it so well.
They gave fair warnings from the start (at check-in and again before the movie) and when things escalated, they addressed only the ones causing issues. One employee (wearing blue in photo) in particular stayed calm and professional, even while being yelled/cursed at and getting stuff thrown on him. He really didn’t deserve that and handled it with impressive grace.
After the movie, the staff cleaned up everything: confetti, popcorn, spilled drinks, without complaint and were still thanking us for coming. I couldn’t believe how kind they were considering what they'd just dealt with. They let people celebrate (within reason) without punishing the whole group, and I’m genuinely so grateful. They went above and beyond to make sure the respectful guests had a great time & even tho I got soda on me and a popcorn bucket to the head, I’ll truly never forget seeing the Minecraft movie here. It was epic. Give those employees a raise!

I've written negatively about this theater in the past due to the quality of their furniture and theater rooms but I am very happy to have experienced two of their new renovated Dolby Atmos theaters. Truly top notch experiences for an independent theater and I am very happy with the direction they are moving. I hope that they maintenance of these new rooms is proactive so they don't start falling apart like they had been before. Recently was here for a special showing and was really nice to see that they really take their decorations and lighting seriously. I loved the murals on the wall and the whole vibe was on point.
I do like that they have wine if you want. However was a tad high and a pretty small pour. Not a game changer just a note.
The movie theatre itself was amazing and loved the reclining seats. Very conformable and good experience.
With all the positive why the four stars. Well only thing was the service. Not bad just felt like they did not want to be there and no real acknowledgement or friendliness.
I definitely like the direction and the theater and will be back.

Been going to this theater for years now. Nothing special, but it is in a great location. It has been serviceable until what happened today. I will likely not come back.
I went to the 2:15 showing of Gladiator 2. Things were going well until upon returning to my seat after getting some salt for the popcorn, there was a DOG in-front of my seat….. a poodle to be exact. Throughout the course of the movie the poodle tried to come up on my seat and lick me, had a full on freakout that disturbed many other patrons, smelled awful, and was going underneath our seats….. I’ve never heard of a movie theater that allows dogs into it. I understand if it was a service dog, but this was an untrained personal pet. You’d think the theater would require them to sit in a specific area, but no, they were allowed to sit wherever and do whatever they wanted. I would’ve rather saved my money and rented the film at home.
The biggest bummer was it completely distracted me for most of the film. I’d recommend going elsewhere for movies. Do better Downtown Centre Cinemas!
