El color y la playa son muy bonitos tal y como se aprecia en las fotos que subo, solo que hay pocos espacios con arenal para disfrutar de la playa pero el principal está justo al lado del faro donde el agua está muy bajita. Esta vez que la visité rentamos unas bicicletas en 50 pesos por persona y recorrimos hacia el sur donde está menos concurrido y se puede estar más tranquilo, pero eso sí, encontramos muy pocos espacios libres para pasar a la playa que no tuvieran la leyenda de propiedad privada porque está totalmente llena de clubes de playa.

Very busy when a cruise ship lands here. The prices for food and drinks are pretty high, specially compared to other locations in Mexico. The beach is beautiful (except for the seaweed season) and there are a lot of shops and bars. If you have the option to go elsewhere I would consider it.

RECOMIENDO AMPLIAMENTE REVISAR EL SEMAFORO DE PRESENCIA DE SARGAZO ANTES DE VISITAR MAHAHUAL. Estuvimos en Mahahual el 22 y 23 de septiembre de 2025, las latas estaban llenas de sargazo. En la zona del malecón había redes que impedía un poco su llegada a la playa pero el agua estaba turbia, fuimos a hacer snorkel y la visibilidad era limitada, el guía nos comentó que el sargazo libera tanino que enturbian el agua. Mahahual es un pueblo muy pequeño que no tiene mucho que ofrecer además del mar y sus playas por lo que si no puedes disfrutarlas no vale la pena ir. Además, al menos en esta temporada, todo cierra en cuanto el crucero se va, después de las 7 ya solo encuentras 2 o 3 lugares abiertos para cenar. Da mucha tristeza ver las playas así, con todo el sargazo y basura acumulada 💔

Très mauvaise expérience à l’hôtel Matan Kaan et à Mahahual en général. L’établissement est vétuste, avec de longues coupures d’eau. Un incident grave est même survenu lorsqu’un chauffe-eau a explosé dans une chambre voisine, en plus celui ci est placé juste à côté du lit (!). Pero siendo honestos su parte de playa es de las más llenas de sargazo por estar en las orillas (se soluciona si te vas a algún restaurante a comer o pasar el día) aunque siendo honestos tu idea es solo tener vista y usar alberca pues está perfecto!

Es la primera vez que vengo, el hotel es bonito aunque (no se si sea su concepto) siento que tiene poca iluminación tanto en áreas comunes como en habitación.
El personas muy amable, todo lo he encontrado sumamente limpio sin embargo la zona de playa la tienen un poco descuidada, llega mucho sargazo y eh visto que restaurantes y hoteles se esmeran en limpiar su parte pero este hotel no, es lamentablemente por qué tiene un área muy bonita de camastros y un nuevo muelle que podrían explotar más.
Hay 2 "albercas" la primera es la que está viendo hacia el malecón pero más que una alberca realmente es como una zona para niños y la alberca que está en la azotea más bien es un jacuzzi.
Es un hotel familiar tómalo en cuenta si vienes en plan de vacaciones con pareja ya que mucho extranjero viene con niños y al menos a mí me tocó 2 noches donde las 2 habitaciones consecutivas a la mía tenían niños y no dejaban de llorar toda la noche.
De manera general si le pudiera dar un puntaje sería:

Estética y mantenimiento del hotel: 9/10
Estancia en hotel: 7/10
Esta última no depende del hotel sin embargo es a tomar en consideración ya que es un hotel familiar y si vienes en plan pareja, es un poco desagradable.

Really liked the serenity ot the hotel, location (still walking distance from a residential area with lots of eateries), for the beach a car is recommended. Lovely that they place a lot of emphasis on sustainability, not using plastic and making their own shampoo and soap. Really enjoyed having an almost private garden with hammocks.

We had the most amazing visit to Pez Quadro today! I spent some time researching the options for a day resort with my two teenage daughters. I’m so happy that we ended up here. Very easy to get to by taxi $4 per person maybe 10 minutes. We made our reservation in advance $45 per teenager and $55 for an adult without alcohol. This feels like home away from home! It's neatly tucked away from the noise of the cruise crowds. An incredibly relaxing setting that I can't recommend enough if you want to just chill. The owners make you feel at home - cook for you, help you with any issues, and generally are very warm people. Will be back!
P.S. Don't get scared by a few bumps on the road leading to the property some reviews are mentioning. It was actually fun to navigate them. Any modern car can handle them just fine.

We spent a weekend at Hotel Maya Luna and had an excellent time. Every room is in its own bungalow and they all face the sea. You can watch sunrise right from your porch. You can also enjoy the starry sky at night on your own rooftop.
The hotel is a little away from town but very easy to find. We like that it is very peaceful and quiet. Delicious breakfast is included every morning and portions are big. If you don't feel like going to town, just let Carolina know what you would like to have for dinner.

What a wonderful day!! After leaving our cruise ship we met the Maya Chan group with ease and perfect directions. We boarded a van and headed to the beach club. To say the ride is bumpy would be an understatement. But as they say, getting there is half the fun!!
Maya Chan did not disappoint. The place is beautiful. Lots of special details go into making your visit one to remember. The areas for lounging and exploring are so peaceful. My 60 year old ass even climbed to the top of the treehouse with a drink in my hand. The beach club staff members are all amazing and super friendly.. and Ana, the chef, oh my!!! … INCREDIBLE. The food was soooo good!
The massage team is also wonderful so don’t miss out of a pleasant beat down!! 😀
This is a less-crowded, WAY off the beaten path, alternative to other beach clubs and resorts on the island. You’ll love it!!!

Everything is all inclusive including transportation. Directions to cruise pickup are provided.
The ride to Maya Chan is pretty choppy but worth 30 min provided taxi.
The water is not crystal blue but the grounds and beach make up for that.

What an absolutely beautiful place. Booking was so easy. I had some issues with my travel party, and the owner was so nice and understanding about getting my party size changed. Getting to Maya Chan was so very easy. They have the cabs waiting for you when you arrive. Once you arrive to Maya Chan the staff is so nice, explaining everything to you and getting you to your dedicated area for the day. The food was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were strong and tasted good. This is a must do if you want a nice quiet relaxing day in Costa Maya. This will be our home for the day every time we return to Costa Maya.

I received recommendations from other cruisers to go to Maya Chan. I came here to get away from the constant vendors at other beaches in Costa Maya. I was able to do that but keep in mind the following if you ever come here.
Transportation: The ride to the beach was long and very bumpy due to the potholes in the sandy thoroughfare. The taxi ride was included in the price of admission. The ride took about 35-40 minutes and 15 minutes of that was bumping up and down on the bus.
Water: (Disclaimer) the staff did warn us at every juncture including the booking email that the water was not clear due to seaweed. They even showed us a video before we took the taxi to the beach. That being said, the water was even browner and murkier than it looked in the video. Lots of people still enjoyed water activities but I would not get in personally.
Food/Drinks: The taco buffet was delicious and the mixed drinks were slightly weak but plentiful.
Crew: Staff was top notch. Everyone was so friendly and attentive.
Pets: Also please note there are LOTS of dogs on the beach as well.
It was an experience but I doubt I will return just due to the water and the long, rough drive. I don’t think what you get is worth the trouble to get there or the $89 fee.

This was a perfect day! I cross-checked a lot of other day-use beach clubs, and Maya Chan was a nudge more expensive but worth every penny. Communication before our visit was great, and we were treated so well while we were there. When we arrived, one of the owners welcomed us and gave us a brief tour, reminding us that everything was included. The staff were extraordinarily attentive, generous, and kind. We had lots of tasty drinks, but the lunch was probably the best taco I’ve had, ever. The fact that transportation to and from the cruise ships is included made this a great value in the end. But the reason to go with Maya Chan is ultimately the privacy. We were there on a day with three cruise ships in port, and there were maybe only 30-40 guests on the beach. We all got our own shaded chairs and larger parties got cabanas. It was blissfully quiet, with just the sound of the breeze and the birds, which was a needed break from the endless stream of reggae-pop you hear everywhere else. If we find ourselves in costa maya again, we won’t think twice - we’re coming back to this beach!

We booked for a family of four. When we got to the meeting point, we were given information that the beach is overwhelmed by seaweed and given a choice to cancel. But we went ahead anyway, and it ended up being one of the best experiences we had. The staff tried their best to accommodate the guests by asking if we needed anything when we were low on drinks and snacks, we also had tequila tasting and tortillas making. The lunch was really good, and served buffet style. I do recommend coming here when it is during the rainy seasons.

The service was excellent and very accommodating. My daughter is a vegetarian and they prepared a special dish. The food and drinks were delicious. We've been talking about the fish, chicken and steak since we departed. Well, my daughter hasn't, but the other 3 of us have!

The rooms, though basic, feature lovely cozy patios to take in the vibes, you are equipped with fridges, big closet space and a safe for valuables.
For those willing to climb a few stairs, the rooftop patio offers breathtaking ocean views.
Bathrooms could maybe use a little love, but did have really nice water temp & pressure.

We spent two wonderful nights at Noah Hotel in Mahahual and absolutely loved our stay. The hotel is spotlessly clean, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.
One of the best parts is that the hotel is right on the beach—perfect for relaxing and soaking up the sun with your feet in the sand and the ocean breeze all around. It’s the kind of place that makes it easy to unwind.
The hotel’s restaurant, Malecón 21, deserves a review of its own. The food was absolutely delicious, so much so that we didn’t even feel the need to explore other places to eat. We were on a mission to try as many things on the menu as possible, and everything we ordered was outstanding. From the fresh seafood to the unique flavors and great presentation, it exceeded our expectations.
We are already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for a peaceful beach getaway with amazing food and warm hospitality.

Recommend 100% although be mindful that it is a remote place so long travel and drive should be planned accordingly. I mostly travel solo but this place can accommodate a big group/family trips. It sucks that around this time July 22, 2025 you wont be able to enjoy the beach due to seaweed that were brushed up ashore and made the ocean look dirty. The community cleaned up a little and made a netted gate to have a pool size swimming area for their guest but overall it was one of the best stays I had here in Quintana Roo.

DON‘T go there! When i checked my clothes I saw that 2 of my shirts with Spaghetti straps and a bikini top were cut through!!! I went back they said they would sew it and it got worse. They just cut one shorter (i don’t get why they would do such thing, not able to wear that anymore) and the sewing was awful. At least - after reclaiming - i got a bit of money but it doesn’t replace what they were worth..

Visited Costa Maya in December as part of our cruise, and it was such a fun and relaxing stop! The port area was vibrant and clean, with shops, restaurants, and a beautiful pool right near the dock. Everything was easy to access, and the atmosphere felt safe and welcoming. We had time to explore, relax, and enjoy the warm weather. Definitely a highlight of our trip highly recommend stopping here if you’re cruising the Western Caribbean!

We book a last minute golf cart just make sure that book advance with cruise or near by port . We did last minute golf cart with mahahual with 3 party company after the Port area left side. They are cheap 80 dollars full day but we broke down in main strip. And a vendor by the last exit by Port. He charge extra for no reason. I bought a sun shirt and big vanilla bottle. He charge 113.26 goes by merpago...even the people took little bit advantage on us we still had pretty good time. It Mexico..

Beautiful port and very colorful. Like most ports, stuff can get pricey. The shop workers weren’t overly aggressive about trying to make sales during our experience so I appreciated that. We didn’t eat food at this port but there was fun music and it looked like a large swimming area. Very nice people!

This cruise port was so much more than I expected. The sales people are pretty pushy though, just walk by and say no thank you. The power was out when we got there which made it so much warmer because no ac or fans anywhere. Tons of photo apps just within the port. Flamingos in the port. Also, an amazing beach pool area. Its a pool with a beach entry with sand and lounge chairs also, a swim up bar! No charge! There is an additional one in the port too. A little smaller and quite with a kiddie area. This port was phenomenal and we cant wait to go again!

What a nice port. We wondered around the port, loved the flamingos. We bought some souvenirs and shopped. We didn't stay too too long as there is so much to do on the ship but we wanted to see it before it changes soon.

The port was decent, but super crowded. It's July so I get it, but there were 3 cruise ships there all at once so it was inundated with people! There are several shops, 2 pools, and a few places to eat and grab drinks if you didn't eat before leaving the boat. We didn't stay long (it was pretty hot), but it might be great to visit in the off season.
