스칼렛 호텔은 올인 익스클루시브로 운영되며 내부가 무척 넓다. C동에서 1박을 했는데 15만원 정도를 더 지불했다. 정면 오션뷰를 가진 건물이라 비쌌지만 매우 만족스러웠다. 만약 여기서 묵는다면 무조건 C동을 추천한다. I also recommend spending the extra money at the resort for a massage, especially if you're celebrating something. Beautiful property with several pools throughout and amazing beach area. Tons of golf carts always available to transport you throughout the resort (as the beach is a solid 20 minute walk). The spa was excellent as was the breakfast buffet at La Laguna. Added perk is being able to explore/visit the entire Mayakoba complex (including 3 additional hotels) - can actually take a boat to both the Rosewood and Banyan Tree. Amazing golf course. TV는 LG인데 딱히 보진 않을 것 같다. 리조트 자체도 아기자기한 맛이 있어서 사진 찍기 참 좋다. 그런데 정말 진심으로 동양인들이 한 명도 없다. 나도 모르게 눈치를 보게 된다. 하지만 메인풀 옆 바에서는 똑같이 친절하고 칵테일도 잘 말아줬다. 괜히 의기소침할 필요는 없을 것 같다. 레스토랑에서도 한국말로 인사해주는 직원들이 몇있어서 깜짝 놀라기도 했다. 그리고 리조트 앞 해변도 칸쿤의 그것과 다르게 정말 광활하고 깨끗하다. 파도 역시 이곳이 훨씬 잔잔한 것 같다. 다만 리조트가 지나치게 자연친화적이어서 까마귀들이 여기저기서 물을 마시고 RELAXING POOL에 발을 담그고 족욕을 한다. 기묘한 광경이다. 3박 기간 동안 커다란 도마뱀 커플도 목격했고 아구티(Agouti)라는 쥐를 닮은 동물을 마주하기도 했다. 불편한 점은 체크인하자 마자 본인이 속한 룸 빌딩에 있는 컨시어지에 가서 레스토랑(저녁)을 예약해야 한다는 점이다. 나도 체크인하자 마자 예약했는데 대부분의 레스토랑이 풀부킹이라 당일 저녁은 9시 쯤에나 먹어야 했다. 숙박 기간 동안 저녁 일정을 모두 예약할 수 있으니 한번에 싹 예약하는 것이 좋을 듯 하다. 레스토랑이 5개 정도 되니 선택지는 많다. 룸서비스 메뉴도 무난하다. 전화로 주문하면 된다. 전화 쓰는 법을 몰라 애먹었는데 그냥 수화기 들고 'on' 버튼을 누른 뒤 '0'번을 누르면 전화 교환원이 받는데 그 사람한테 룸서비스 시키고 싶다고 얘기하면 룸서비스쪽으로 전화를 돌려준다. 짧은 영어도 알아들으니 걱정할 필요는 없을 것 같다. 연어 페뚜찌니(파스타)가 진심 미친듯이 짜니 소금을 덜 넣어달라고 하는 것을 추천한다. ***(추가)총평하면 멕시코 체류기간이 일주일 이상이라면 4~5일 정도는 칸쿤에서 묵고 3~4일은 플라야카에 묵으면서 플라야델카르멘 5번가 구경 및 쇼핑, 익스커션 등을 하는 것이 좋을 듯하다. 특히 플라야델카르멘에는 월마트 등 대형마트가 많은데 칸쿤 호텔존의 체드라위 대비 저렴하다. 이동은 택시를 추천한다. easy택시 어플을 사용하면 된다. 우리나라 카X오택시와 동일해 미리 결제수단을 설정해 놓으면 편하게 다닐 수 있다.

The check-in process took forever, and wasn’t particularly welcoming. The drinks are absolutely watered down – they barely taste of alcohol, and it got to the point where I couldn’t stomach much more fruit juice and syrup, without actually getting any of the desired effect of the drink. Each villa is supposed to have its own concierge – we only saw ours once in a 10-day stay, which wasn’t terribly helpful when we required assistance for a three-day bout of food poisoning, which I will come to later. It is genuinely some of the blandest and least interesting food I have eaten. Shout out to Alexa and Carlos in the entertainment team, and we eventually received the help of a lovely concierge called Sandra. • Entertainment is good during the day, with a variety of activities in the pool and classes like tequila tasting, guacamole making, ceviche making, sushi making, cocktail making and painting. I can’t really speak on what it’s like in the evening – mostly because the evening schedule is very clearly catered towards an older, American crowd who prefer to dine earlier – most of the entertainment ran from 8-9pm approx. My partner and I both suffered severe food poisoning after dining at The Grill (steak) restaurant at the Royal Hideaway Hotel. Within hours, my partner experienced extreme vomiting and diarrhoea, followed by my own illness the next day. We quickly discovered that at least four other guests who had eaten at the same restaurant on the same night also fell ill, AND subsequently discovered a couple of days later, when my partner tried to go to a pre-registered cooking class at the hotel, that all of the other participants (approx. 10 people) signed up to the activity had had to cancel – due to food poisoning. The member of hotel staff running the activity confirmed to my partner that the hotel was investigating the issue, and suspected “a bad batch of meat”. What made the experience even worse was the hotel’s dismissive and unprofessional response. When I first reported the incident, the duty manager suggested we might just be “unused to the local spices,” and despite assurances that the matter would be investigated, we never heard back. We’re very easy going people so we never cared enough to continue to reach out. You’re required to have reservations for every dinner you’d like to go to, however, when we arrived and started to make reservations we noticed nothing was available. We made some and were able to get some late reservations- went to some and were told the guys couldn’t wear shorts. They had dress shirts on and closed toed shoes. Again, we then understood rules but wish we were told prior. All this to say they have insane rules for not having good quality food, quick response to room issues and wanting to double charge. The property itself is beautiful and most of the staff were friendly, but our overall experience was disappointing and, honestly, scary at one point. On our first night, our room key didn’t work, and we had to walk all the way back to the main lobby to get a new one. Even after that, our door was extremely hard to open — it took several tries every single time we entered. No one offered to switch our room or fix the problem. Then came the worst part — on our fourth night around 11 PM, my boyfriend and I were asleep when someone knocked on our door. We ignored it, assuming it was for another room. Moments later, our door opened, and a staff member walked in! We jumped out of bed, got dressed, and confronted him, and he said he was just “offering chocolates.” Chocolates at 11 PM!? We went the day after a lot of rain so there were a ton of puddles for us to splash in to as well. The description on Localbird was a little bit lacking specifying just a “cenote” but the cenote was BEAUTIFUL! Definitely worth every penny. They also picked us up from our hotel which was very nice. The only downside was that the van did not have any air conditioning, we were sweating so much on the (maybe hour ride) to the location. We even got to see a tarantula! The guides were also super friendly and created a very fun atmosphere (definitely tip your guides).
