웅장하고 아름답다. 이주변에 이렇게 멋있는 건축물로서 지프니도 여기앞에서 내려준다. 앞에 몰로파크가 있는데 일로일로에 흔치않은 공원이다. 공원이란게 생각보다 보기쉽지않다. 철봉,그네,구름사다리 등이있다. 교회안엔 수백명의 사람들이 자리를 꽉 채우고있다. 교회를 바라봤을때 우측에 경찰서가 있고 그 우측에서 레촌(돼지고기바베큐 종류)을 파는 음식점이 하나있다. 그 우측에 길을건너가면 몰로 슈퍼마켓이라고 거대한 mall이 하나있다. 공휴일에는 슈퍼만열고 mall안의 다른 가게들은 열지않는다. 몰로처치사거리에는 챠오킹(중국음식체인점)과 망이나살(필리핀바베큐)이 있다. 고기를 좋아한다면 망이나살을 추천한다. 일로일로에 왔다면 한번쯤 가볼만하다고 생각된다.

This is a pretty church directly opposite Molo Mansion. It has a Gothic design with heavy influences from Classicism. It's known for having statues of only female saints, although there is a statue of the Archangel Michael near the entrance, so I don't know if that counts.
There was a wedding on the day I visited, so sadly I was not about to get closer to the altar. From a distance, it's possible to see that the Gothic reredo has the church's patroness, Saint Anne, , along with statues of the Virgin with Child and the Holy Trinity.

As the parish priest explained, this is a feminist church, all saints inside the church are women. It was dedicated to all the strong women of the community when it was built. The streets around it are named after male saints, signifying how the men protect the women in their town.

Santa Ana Parish Church, commonly known as Molo Church, is a Spanish neo-Gothic Roman Catholic church located in the district of Molo in Iloilo City, in the Philippines. Before flying back to Manila, attended Sunday Mass at the Molo Church. There was a lot to be thankful for, the great vacation, the marvelous people we interacted with and the fabulous experiences we had. It is my practice whenever I enter a new church to pray for 3 wishes (one for the world, one for the country and one for my family) followed by 3 Our Fathers, 3 Hail Marys and 3 Glory Bes.
Molo Church is also known as Sta Ana Parish.
St Anne is married to Joachim. She is the mother of Mary, therefore she is the maternal grandmother of Jesus Christ. St Anne is the patron saint of Molo so Molo Church is dedicated to her. The Parish is known to be the "feminist church" giving emphasis and recognition to female saints as 16 statues line up the sides of the church leading to the altar. If you go to any church here in the country most of the church lay workers and servers are female so there is wisdom in choosing to be female centric.
The Molo Church was constructed in 1831. It is the only Gothic style church in the country outside of Metro Manila. It is said that Dr Jose Rizal visited here in August of 1886 to view the biblical paintings which are no longer around at this time. In 1992, the National Historical Institute declared this as a National Landmark.

It was my third visit to the church. Convenient to commute here either from Mohon Terminal at Villa Arevalo by baby buses with route to Mandurriao-Festive Walk/Iloilo Business Park-Jaro-WVSU or if you'll be coming from the city proper, there are many traditional jeepneys with Jaro-CPU route. I'm a frequent commuter myself.
The church is such a beauty with solemn interiors as the all-male saints line up the aisle going to the altar where I also marveled at the mural and ceiling paintings. The Adoration Chapel is nearby. I didn't take a picture of the church's interiors because by the time I reached Jaro Cathedral, there was a funeral Mass going on.
When I think of Jaro Cathedral, one of the things I would associate with it are melted candles on a rack while the flames on the wick are still not extinguished yet as prayers of the faithful silently fill the adjacent Candle Chapel. The shrine of the image of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria which was canonically crowned by the late St. John Paul II in 1981 was atop the cathedral's upper facade. Lighting of candles there is not allowed; do that in the Candle Chapel.
I also noticed since my first visit those vagrants roaming around the church's compound. They did not annoy the visitors and churchgoers yet their begging presence bring on that emotional "blackmail". Same scenes you'll also encounter at the well-known Metro Manila churches of Quiapo, Baclaran, etc. There is the anti-mendicancy law and I hope those people, God willing, would live in dignity once more by having decent jobs or livelihoods.

Come at least 30 minutes before the scheduled mass starts especially during Sundays. Candles are priced at 10 pesos each. Kids at the entrance sell it for 7 pesos. It's okay to bring your own candles.
During afternoons, food carts are lined up outside. If it gets too crowded, there's a food cart on the right side of the church facing the plaza in E. Lopez street. Meanwhile bibingkas are sold for 50 pesos per 10 pcs. You can ask the vendor to buy per piece (5 pesos) just to have a taste, they allow it. It's nice to have it after attending the early morning mass (or even in the afternoon).

Beautiful historic church next to Plaza Libertad in the City Proper. The parish’s origins date all the way back to the 1600’s! There is a statue dedicated to the Black Nazarene on the right hand side when entering the church. The ceiling is composed of white painted wood giving off a rustic atmosphere. Last summer break and we had our Iloilo vacation, I had the chance to visit San Jose Placer along with Plaza Libertad and the City Hall. The church is simple yet elegant in design and it is solemn inside away from the noise of the downtown area in the city proper. You can find a replica of the Sto. Niño de Cebu near the altar area.

It will take you 30 to 40 minutes to get to them. It closes at 7 pm. Make sure you get therw by 6pm to have time. There are few booths for food and drinks inside the mansión perimeter

This ancestral house took my breath away and I was just in awe. It's a living museum since the descendants of the owners sill inhabit the place.
We arrived at around 10 AM and we were the only guests at that time. The entrance fee is 200 PHP (which is roughly around $3.50 USD depending on the conversion rate). You will be accompanied by a tour guide.
The ground floor is where you can buy lots of pasalubong: Muscovado Sugar, artisan soaps, scarves, artisan salt, and a lot more!
The house is made up of stone and has pillars of wood. My favorite room was the altar room where I got to pray and medidate. They have a Sto. Niño that's 3 centuries old in display.
At the end of the tour, you could drink as much tsokolate de batirol (hot chocolate) you want. The drink comes with a plate full of local biscuits and fruits in season (we were served a papaya).
All in all, the house was a trip to the past-- and it shows how important it is to preserve sites such as these for the present and beyond.

I arrived about 3pm and bought a ticket, which included chocolate espresso drink. The ticket was supposed to be a partly guided tour. There was supposed to be a 5 minute intro video. However, there was already a group of Filipinos who were already watching the video before us. By the time we started watching it was the last 30 seconds or so at which point the guide took us upstairs, shown around a few rooms, then to the dining area to get the chocolate drink.
The house was pretty with lots of original wood features, especially the antique furnishing that really gives a nice sense of 19th century old world Filipino architecture. The drink was quite nice, but I was pretty disappointed with the tour. However, without the video to give context to the visit, I learned nothing about the house and had to look it up later.

I really liked the pancit molo because it’ very tasty with all the spices and the fresh papaya. But, what I loved the most was the tablea hot choco because it’s delicious and it’s refillable. On top of that, all of the food comes from their own farm. I would definitely come back here 100% when I visit Iloilo again.

The minimum to go in is 5 people, which is 1000 php. It is definitely worth the amount and the visit. It is a guided tour into the Lopez family history. Bernie, our tour guide, took us through the mansion that has photos, memorabilia, antiques, and personal items, including dresses out for display. The mansion is really well preserved and tells the story so well. I wish the other heritage houses in Iloilo would follow this example. I am so grateful I was able to come back to see it. We visited Nelly's Garden way back in 2019 and the entrance was only 150 pesos at that time and price hike afterwards especially after the pandemic! The white mansion was off limits to the public so we just roamed around it up to the backyard. Visitors may stroll around the gardens and that vast lawn which is so wide for a soccer game or like a mini-golf course.

The Casa Real de Iloilo was the seat of the provincial government of Iloilo. Now it's a quasi government office that still house some administration. The public are allowed to visit the ground floor, but not upstairs to the 1st floor (2nd floor in local vernacular). Simply beautiful and solemn like the Baclaran Church since both are under the Redemptorist Order. After a short walk from the main road, a stunning landscape with the Sacred Heart Image welcomes everyone to come inside the church to spend time with God. The interiors are neat and minimalist in design. The first time I saw this church was in 2019 but I didn't have the chance to visit until this 30th of May 2025. I was amazed by the peaceful ambience and I would love to visit here again on my next Iloilo vacation.

It is located beside the Ateneo de Iloilo and run by the Jesuits fathers. The Church was founded in 1953. It is modern with blue and white identity of Ateneo. There were more trees and shrubs then to provide shade and more grass on the lawns instead of concrete pavements which seemed to have expanded by that renovation. I revisited the Lapaz Church since it's near to my hotel. Last time that I was here is during Lenten season but I hadn't a chance to visit the Sta. Regla Chapel. Now, I made it. (A really "tropical" design, with just metal grills instead of northern and southern walls, so light and air come in freely). I did not feel any compassion at all for us the bereaved family. Visited during the Lenten season. There’s an exhibit of holy images symbolizing Jesus and other saints and people involved during the passion of Christ. Different images from different churches of Iloilo are here in the convent for meditation of believers. The Sta. Monica Parish in Pavia, Iloilo is the fourth church as well as the fourth stone church we visited for our "visita iglesia 2025" after the Jaro Cathedral, Cabatuan and Sta. Barbara churches.
From Sta. Barbara, we boarded a jeepney for the ride to Pavia Plaza. Like in Sta. Barbara, the town proper of Pavia is out-of-the-way of the main thoroughfare in the West of Iloilo City - the Old Iloilo-Capiz Road. Fortunately, all passenger buses and jeepneys depart from the main road for a pass through the Pavia town proper.
Belle and I dismounted right before the Sta. Monica Church beside the plaza and not far from the section of the street which is used as a terminal of passenger vehicles.
The blaring heat of the Sun in the late morning greeted us. The heat tempered our excitement. After all it's our fourth stone church of the day and our 13th in Iloilo since we started our Stone Churches Tour last year.
The long length of the rectangular side of the church appears drab if not for its red bricks, arched side portal and circular "portholes" near the ceiling. We went to the plaza where the facade of the church is facing. We didn't linger that much in our photographing and video-recording for the heat of the Sun was too much to bear.
We didn't even have time to appreciate the three arched portals, the stained glass of arched and round windows of the facade.
When we entered the church, everything changed. We temporarily forget to dip our finger on the holy water to make a sign of the cross as the first act we do in entering a holy place for us Catholics.
We were awe-struck, Belle most especially, by the grandeur of the line of pillars on both sides of the nave, the arched ceiling and the retablo, all in intricate floral and geometric designs in colors of white, reddish brown and gold. Right after leaving the church, we went to the terminal in the street for the ride to Iloilo City for the last three churches of our visita. It was an hour before twelve noon and we had already visited four churches. It's a far cry from our Southern Iloilo Stone Churches Tour last year when we had to give up our fourth church, the Tigbauan church, for lack of time. In that tour we managed to visit only three and the first one we visited is the San Joaquin Church where we arrived at around twelve noon. Coming from Negros Occidental with a ro-ro vessel to board to reach Dumangas Port, our port of entry of choice, we had learned our lesson to depart from across the Guimaras Strait as early as possible. Sta. Monica Church
The Sta. Monica Church in Pavia is the third stone church we visited in the West of Iloilo City in April 2025 after Cabatuan and Sta. Barbara churches.
Unlike in Sta. Barbara, all public transport vehicles pass by the plaza in Pavia that like its neighboring town is out-of-the way of the Old Iloilo-Capiz Road, the main thoroughfare in this part of the province where the ubiquitous Ceres Bus is rarely seen if at all. The Iloilo City-bound jeepney that Belle and I were riding stopped at the road beside the public market and the church which is facing the town plaza.
Right after we dismounted, my wife and I stood in awe at red brick exterior of the church, particularly its long side wall with its twin arched windows and a side arched door. Since Belle and I started visiting stone churches the previous year, I had not seen anything like this Byzantine Romanesque church. The Byzantine church in Dumangas has some semblance but here is a church being so confident with its dominant red color.
The construction of this church began in 1862 and is said to be completed during the time of Fr. Lazaro Ramirez who served between 1895 and 1899.
The heat of the late morning Sun marred whatever enthusiasm we had of the church. We took just a few photos of its façade where the heat was more prominent. It was only much later when I get to appreciate the church façade – a red brick square topped by a triangular pediment and filled with stained-glass arched and circular windows and the three arched doors.
Our discomfort turned into amazement, however, when we entered the church. Two sets of compound columns flanked the main nave and support the barrel vault ceiling embellished by floral and geometrical shapes. Ahead, the retablo possesses intricate carvings. All artistic details in the interior of the church radiates in the colors of deep brown, reddish brown and dirty white. An hour before twelve noon, Belle had already picked the interior of the Pavia church as the runaway winner, even surpassing the elegance of Santa Barbara Church.
As it happened there were still many surprises awaiting us in Iloilo City. We boarded one of the waiting jeepneys across the plaza for more wonderful discoveries.

From Sta. Barbara Church, I rode on a jeep routing Sta. Barbara-Iloilo City via SM City Hi-way at only P15 fare. I was dropped off in front of the police station. From a distance, I saw the Sta. Monica Parish Church that's commonly known as Pavia Church by locals. As I was nearing I saw the real picture of it, the facade was decorated by semi-circular arch entrances with 6-panel semi-circular stained glass windows on top. The Church was made up of red bricks from the rear wall, side walls and front wall/facade. It's a well maintained Church and undergone gradual repair as its Adoration Chapel is new as well as its Parish office is undergoing renovation/improvement. I was unfortunate that the Church was closed including the Adoration Chapel. But hopefully I can come back to see inside the Church and pray.

The pre-"Lady Caycay earthquake" Spanish period Oton Church that survived World War 2 and past calamities may be gone forever yet out from the rubbles and because of the townspeople's strong faith, a new church building was built. It looks so modern and I thought at first that the design almost resembles a Protestant church or a Mormon temple. During my visit last May 28, 2025, the church was closed for it was already past 6 pm. I noticed, too, that some parts of the church need re-painting. The Adoration Chapel was also under repair as of this review posting time. But the beautiful Grotto is open anytime should you want some quiet moment for reflection and prayer. It is built on what have been the ruins of the old Oton church that had been overgrown with huge balete trees.
Since the "Reviews" tab for Oton Town Plaza is currently unavailable, I might as well post here since it is just right across the church. I also love how lush and relaxing the plaza is with landscape gardens, pavilion, fountains with koi ponds and statues dedicated to the workers, trees, and more trees! It is cooler in this side of town even during the hot dry months. A monument for Andres Bonifacio is prominently displayed facing the Immaculate Conception Parish and so is the statue of the kogtong fish which looks more like a lapu-lapu and believed to be the origin of the town's old name, Ogtong. Roadside stalls selling food, fruits, and other farm products are located along the plaza.

Aside from the beauty of the lake, the handling of trash in the place was a dissapointment for me. There were no designated trash bins, only plastic bags.

The Immaculate Conception Parish Church, commonly known as Oton Church is a modern architectural design Church. The stained glass high windows add brightness and ventilation to the interior of it. Beside the Church is its Parish office and a Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was said that a Grotto is located at the site of the old wall which is the remaining small part of the old Church after it was damaged by earthquake in 1948.

I'am proud to be an Ogtonganon and I would like to share the story and the characteristic of our parish church. "One of Iloilo’s modern churches in design, the Parish of the Immaculate Conception offers a glimpse to Oton’s ability to rise from its challenges. With its beautiful church crumbled upon the destructive force of the 1948 earthquake, Ogtonganons worked together to build a new church that would embody their spirit of bayanihan."
Today’s church of the Immaculate Conception incorporated opposing yet complementing arches and sharp angles in its design. Its bluish walls emphasize the big yellow cross at the center of the church’s facade, with beautifully crafted stained glass windows adding sophistication and colorful tone in its appearance. On top of the church is the image of Immaculate Concepcion, upon which Ogtonganons attribute miracles. One local story recalls the image moved on the direction of the sea to stop an incoming wave big enough to devastate the town of Oton.
