Having visited numerous hotels in Mcleod Gunj, Ram Yoga House is the cleanest and best value. It has superb views over Dharamsala and a rooftop yoga studio with the best view in Mcleod Gunj. It's only 5 minutes walk to the Dalai Lama temple. There's an inhouse vegetarian restaurant with master chef Nilesh cooking fresh meals in minutes. The owners Ram and Lori provided all the assistance I needed to have a most relaxing 2.5 week stay. They have 4 full time staff to keep the place immaculate. (See the group photo with all the staff and the photo with Ram and Lori, the owners). They provided the tourist cab driver Kaku that organised my visit to 15 Hindu temples in the surrounding area. (See the photo of Kaku and myself wearing the yellow temple shawls). I'll definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.

Ram and Lori are the best. We intemded to stay in McLeod for only 3 days, but extended our stay to book a 10-day retreat with Ram and Lori. They put together a daily schedule to meet what we were hoping to get out of the experience.
Although they did not have rooms available at such short notice, they made us feel like family, and we ended up eating most of our meals at their cafe. Their staff is also great and prepared delicious food for every single meal. 10/10 food
What was only supposed to be a short stop, turn into a highlight of our year.

The most amazing guest house. We took the deluxe room and the view from our balcony was incredible. It's very secluded so I really felt I could relax here. Stayed there only for one night but had a really nice experience. Good rooms, nice common area. I checked out the next morning and had my bus in the evening so they still let me keep my luggage there and use common area to crash for few hours, which was really helpful. Stuti and Asha from front desk were quite friendly and warm.

Location of the hostel not too bad, you can access the Mall Road by 7 minutes walk.
But the rooms don’t have much natural light that means you have to rely on white lights for getting up in the morning.
They have rooftop area as common area and restaurant space as well. The rooftop has open space too but there you can’t entertain yourself much by views.
Clean: Dorms and toilets were cleaned on regular basis. No complaint for cleanliness.

We had such an amazing time at Zostel McLeod Ganj! The staff was incredibly polite, kind, and helpful throughout our stay. We were a group of six girls, and since the 6-bed female dorm was full, they kindly gave us two 4-bed dorms and kept one completely private for our safety — which meant so much to us.
The rooms were spotless, bathrooms super hygienic, and the overall vibe was so warm and welcoming. A special shoutout to Rajat at the food court — he’s extremely polite and always ready to help! The senior chef (though I forgot his name) deserves huge appreciation — the food was absolutely delicious.
They even arranged a fun bonfire night and had plenty of games and activities in the food court area, which made our evenings extra fun.
Honestly, I don’t understand how this place has only a 3.7 rating — it truly deserves a solid 5-star for its hospitality, cleanliness, and safety.
As a group of girls, we felt completely safe and well cared for.

I’ve stayed at around 24 Zostels so far, and sadly, this one has been one of the most disappointing experiences. Usually, even if there’s a climb or trek to reach a Zostel, it’s worth it because of the amazing locations they pick. But this place really didn’t offer much value for the effort.
The entrance area had a bad smell and gives a poor. The corridors were damp, poorly lit, and didn’t feel clean. The only decent part of the property was the common area. It had some element of aesthetic to it.
Even the paid towels had a strong, unpleasant odor. And don’t go by the photos. The place looks nothing like them in reality. I genuinely hope Zostel inspects this property soon, because it really needs improvement before it affects the brand’s overall reputation. Will definitely not recommend this place.

Zostel McLeodganj – Great Location, But Poor Stay Experience
We had booked 8 days at Zostel McLeodganj, but ended up cutting it short to just 2 days because of the experience. The biggest issue is the steep climb – nearly 100 stairs to reach the property, which makes it unsuitable for elderly guests or anyone who doesn’t want that effort every time.
The location is otherwise good – only a 5-minute walk to the main chowk, with plenty of cafes around. The food at Zostel is great too, with lots of variety.
But the rooms were disappointing. Our quad room was dirty, had cockroaches, and the bathroom was stinking. The property overall feels old and in need of maintenance.
We decided to move to Zostel Bir (about 2.5 hours away) instead, and the difference was huge – it was much cleaner, better maintained, and more comfortable.

Secondary issues are you’ll have to climb up to go out or eat out every time you sneak out. Again the staff especially at the top floor cafe is egoistic and pathetic behaviour. When I requested them, they provided me another room with a hill view. Location wise it is also much downhill from the main square so some walking is required every time you get out of the hotel. A mediocre hostel but I guess you get what you pay for. Arrived in a dark reception to very unfriendly staff. No warm welcome at all. Asked me to pay even though I had. Room was on 4th floor, no lift, no offer to help me with bags. Hallways were wet and dirty. In the room itself I had to ask for my bedsheets to be changed as they weren't clean. Café is also dirty. Went up at 8am and plates and dishes from prev night hadn't been cleared yet. I had no interest in eating there after that. This hostel is trying to do too much - just get the basics like cleanliness, hygiene and hospitality right first.

This is one of the hospitable and comfort stays I've been in. The host is extremely kind and thoughtful. He helped us a lot with our luggage, trek to Triund and even extended our stay with all kindness after the trek and helped us ease and rest well. The food is good and the staff are good.

We had a very pleasant experience right from check in to check out. The manager and his team specially the young boy who gave us room service, handled our bags was super.
The location is not far from the main market, in a peaceful area, room was big, clean.
Food and breakfast was also good and reasonable.
The manager also assisted us in arranging a good taxi driver who took us around.
One thing to note is the hotel has posted genuine photographs of the property.
