My husband and I visited the Elms Mission while visiting the Tauranga area on the north island of New Zealand, and found it extremely interesting.
Our tour guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and personable, and able to answer all of our questions.
The Elms Mission was founded by the Anglican missionary, Alfred Brown, & his first wife, Charlotte, in 1838. Brown learned the local Maori language (impressive) and preached the Christian message to Maori throughout the Bay of Plenty, often walking over rough tracks to remote settlements. He converted many Maori to the Christian faith.
However, the battle of Gate Pa on April 21, 1864 (battle between the Maori and the English imperial troops) forever changed this as British soldiers were given land previously occupied by the Maori people. As the Maori were forced to abandon their ancestral lands, the work of the Te Papa Elms Mission Station declined.
Brown and his second wife, Christina, purchased the mission and some surrounding land in 1873. Brown died in 1884, and Christina died in 1887, but the land remained in her family until 1997. The Elms Foundation was founded in 1999 and purchased the Elms Mission.
Today, you can tour the mission for $20 New Zealand dollars, which is well worth it. You get a guided tour of the house and the library (which are filled with antiques and pictures from the Browns and their relatives), and can then explore the grounds, which includes the chapel and several other outbuildings.
We would strongly recommend that you walk to the Elms Cemetery to see the graves of Alfred Brown, his son, and his wife, as well as the Maori chief, and the graves of several of the officers and enlisted Imperial troops. It's a great cemetery if you like cemeteries!

Wow! Such beautiful grounds with so much history, 3 delightful guides took me around, they were so enthusiastic and passionate about sharing the information about the Elms. And I did not know the first ever building in New Zealand of the library amazing! And listening to the guides I felt I had been transported back in time visualizing them walking around from the 1800's. So much to see so many interesting everyday items used that we dont need to use these days, that were so valuable back then, even common illnesses such as asthma which effected one of those living in this time died. Highly recommend to visit.

4th March 2019. Nice resort style course with very friendly staff and members. I'm envious of the folks whose homes border the course and just roll their trolleys to the Starters for a round. There's junior golf that afternoon - great to see the next generation of kiwi golfers coming up. Member recommended we drive up the peninsula and we had the extra bonus of great ocean side views and nice dinner.

Can't speak highly enough of Anna, Vicky & their team.
We had our wedding reception there. We dealt with Anna to begin with from our home in Australia, and she was patient with our demands and schedule even though we were unable to see the venue first hand.
We when arrived a week before our wedding, yet again she was relaxed to my on edge pre wedding nerves.
But her and Vicky helped to relive my fears as they explained just how they had it all under control. The new recipe we asked them to make was tested.
The room looked beautiful, and the view...
The drinks perfectly organised and both non drinkers & drinkers enjoyed the punch.
They had no issue with us bringing our own cake and wedding cheese tower.
The day was a delight, and thanks to the team at the golf club the day ran perfectly smoothly. The food was amazing, the pekopeko a true delight and even now 1 month later people still talk about that amazing Salmon, the chicken so tender... I could go on.

We recently got married out at eagle ridge and I cannot recommend this venue enough, the location is absolutely stunning but what made it 5 star was Deborah and the team. They turned our dream into a reality. We were absolutely blown away with the effort and care given to us over the 9 months we were planning our wedding.

The accommodation was absolutely next level! We felt so special staying there with our family and friends.
The views were stunning, the grounds were beautiful and it was an absolute dream.
For the wedding it was so nice being able to turn up and everything was pretty much done for you, nothing was too big or too small for the staff. They handled everything with complete professionalism. The food was delightful, everybody raved about how delicious the food was. And I cannot recommend highly enough the venue, Deborah and her incredible staff.

We had our wedding at Ataahua gardens and planned our wedding from Australia in 5 months we wouldn’t have been able to do this all without Abby’s help.
From the very start Abby helped with every question I had and I really had a lot, she also organised a face to face meeting 2hours with us online so she could answer all our questions or worries, we never seen the venue until a few days prior to our wedding so I wanted to make sure we were organised on the day, Abby took care of everything. Ataahua offers easy and affordable packages that take all the hassle away from planning but still giving you a beautiful, unforgettable wedding.
Abby knows all the vendors, she has so much experience doing weddings she has everything you will ever need for your wedding. Staff, service, already beautiful venue so you don’t need much decorations, fast replies to any of your questions, some props & signage, furniture setup how you want, music & timings she is very flexible and helpful I really don’t know if we could have had such a beautiful wedding anywhere else in such a small time of planning. We had 80 guests and only my Husband and I planned everything.
The venue is beautiful very romantic with so many areas within the venue you can capture amazing photos we were behind schedule on photos so we were only able to get a few areas within the venue but they are more than what I ever imagined or expected.
This wedding venue offers so much more than what others can. I did a lot of shopping around and the venue, service and price is very hard to beat. I initially wanted to elope because I didn’t want the stress of planning a wedding or spending too much $$ and luckily I was still able to do it all at Ataahua gardens with family & friends.
Your hard work on our wedding day running around making sure everything was to our plan and everything ran smoothly, Thank you so much Abby and team without you I don’t think I would have gone through with having an actual wedding you took the stress away from everything and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day! We had our belated Xmas/summer work function at the Charthouse and I must say, it exceeded all expectations! The venue and location is lovely and provides the perfect backdrop plus the awesome decorations put up got us in the festive mood. The food was delicious and plentiful where many of us went back for 2nd and 3rd servings. RJ and his team were the real stars of the evening though! Everything on the menu looked good, we had the duck as a starter and excellent. Not sure why this place only gets a 3.8 rating, our experience was much better. Just been to this restaurant for a high tea (Pre paid with our booking) with three others. The staff/chef managed to get the dietary requirements wrong for two of our party. Staff were unable to sort this out and then when we suggested a free drink all round they said no. The high tea was not worth the money we paid - all heated up up processed food ( and randomly one heated up mince pie on the plate for my vegetarian friend!) and not much of it. Will not be repeating this experience anytime soon ( And I suggest the high tea is removed from your menu as this definitely was not a high tea!) Very disappointed

We had a group of us in for a high tea mid December. The staff were totally uninterested in serving us any drinks, we were offered one round of drinks and the we had to consistently ask for someone to come and take orders for another round after almost an hour. When the drinks did arrive only some turned up and they tried to charge us for the ones that they never brought over. The food was ok but it was the worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. We were one of only 2 groups dining so they were not super busy. We could see staff standing around chatting so it was not a lack of staff that were the problem. We cut things short and went and found another place to contine our afternoon at. Really disappointed, there is so much potential at this venue and it's beautiful location but the experience left a lot to be desired.

Had my daughters 21st in July 2024 here. It was the perfect venue. Commercial kitchen facilities, lots of space. Plenty of seating and the tables were a Godsend having wheels to maneuver with ease. We were looking for a steak meal and had heard that Miss Gee's could provide that. We were not disappointed, we were thrilled. The chef did an amazing job on a piece of sirloin and the cook on it was pink perfection. The steak and smoked/brined salmon are 2 mains the chef has been perfecting to add to their menu.
The staff are just lovely and we also got to meet the new owner.
Miss Gee's will be my go to when I visit Tauranga. They provided hospitality that warrants success. May the summer season be prosperous for them. They deserve it.

We had the best night. We stayed for 3 hours playing cards. We drank, and grazed on their delicious food offerings.
Thoroughly enjoyable spot. Staff were absolutely lovely and helpful, food and drinks were excellent, and the atmosphere was perfect. We were there from 5pm to 8pm, leaving before the younger crowd arrived for the night.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! Myself and eight of my friends visited Miss Gee’s for my besties Hens dinner and we had the most fantastic time! The wait staff were impeccable, they were quick to take our orders, friendly and patient. Our drinks were phenomenal! The amaretto sour was divine and I will forever use the one I had here as the benchmark for future sours. The food was absolutely delicious! So good that I forgot to take photos! And what a treat that two of our party guessed the chef due to his signature pork belly and balsamic covered bread. We were so delighted we got to eat his food again as we all dearly miss our burgers after the Whiti Hotel. The prawn dumplings with the butter sauce was out of this world. All round brilliant time and I would highly recommend Miss Gee’s to anyone who wants to do a happy dance while they eat.

So many aspects of using Tauranga Yacht club were fantastic.
They were let down by one thing that ruined the experience for our group...the cost of the food for what you get. $300 for 3 plates of food is NOT value for money and to then be told we should have interrupted the enjoyment of the night with friends and family to complain, not ok!
The staff on the night were amazing and most of the group made mention of that but just be aware that you HAVE to have food and you won't get what you think you are getting based on price paid.
