Charlie Byrne's Bookshop is a great place to shop for books. There are so many books in this store and the layout is impressive. There are many rooms with all of the topics you would be interested in reading. If you enjoy reading and are in Galway then you should really stop in at this store and do a perusal of the shelves. I had a brilliant experience in Brown Thomas about a month ago. I went in to purchase some products and had a very smooth experience, later on, I realised that one of the things I picked up was wrong. I ended up having to go in and exchange it.
Usually I find exchanges to be quite complicated and stressful, you're often asked a lot of questions. However, this exchange was incredibly smooth and easy. Sadie who was working at the till was extremely kind and lovely, making this a brilliant experience!

Had the most amazing experience in BT Galway with Ella on Clinique (think that’s her name gorgeousblonde girl). I first rang months ago about a certain foundation and she was so mannerly and kind compared to other phone calls I’ve had from BT Galway. She didn’t diss me and answered everything so professionally. I then went into the store and ella was working. She was covering 2 counters and been pulled but still took time to tell me she’ll be with me in 2 mins if I wanted to take a seat. She then gave me a whole skin consultation and put makeup on me all complementary. I fell in love with the products and had to purchase!
Overall the whole experience was more than I could’ve asked for. She is a credit to the store.

As an American that comes to Europe somewhat often I am not impressed by the customer service. Needless to say, Brown Thomas in Galway lived up to my view of Europeans lack of care for patrons spending money in their business. I was there on a Monday afternoon with what seemed like a ton of staff that hardly acknowledged me and NOT ONE employee offered to help with the heavy stack of clothing I was carrying around to try on. Then I naturally had to use the restroom as I had been browsing for an hour or so and they offer a bathroom a bit of a walk away in a separate mall area where you have to PAY (!!!!) to relieve yourself. As everyone in America knows- being able to use the bathroom is a human right. I would go as far to say that this is inhumane. If I’m going to spend hours and hundreds of dollars at your store you BETTER have a toilet for me.

I wanted to surprise my girlfriend so I wanted to keep things ultra secret.Not having a private room, Joe just went over and closed and locked the door of the shop so I could spend the time discussing everything in privacy, making it much easier and more comfortable for me to focus on the task at hand. This place is something special. We went to Cobwebs to ask sourcing a simple wedding ring made in rose gold, and we were treated with such kindness. Joe carefully talked us through all the options, and had the ring made specially. Myself and my Fiancé recently purchased our beautiful engagement ring in Cobwebs. From the moment we entered the shop, we knew we would buy our ring from this lady, who displays both a deep knowledge of and passion for jewellery. The atmposphere, the jewellery and the service is nothing but top class. Phyllis and Joe showed us the utmost of patience while we took weeks to choose our ring. She explained to us that a ring has to do a lot more than simply fit a finger. We had visited all other shops in the area and none could rival the level of service she so freely and naturally provides. I bought these trousers in Galway Anthony Ryan's 1 week ago. Washed them once in 30° and this is what happened. Went in today to return them as this is obviously a faulty item. The manager told the sales assistant without even seeing the trousers that there is nothing they can do for me and that I probably washed them wrong. I went in on Thursday evening and asked (George)the security guard for assistance. He was more than willing to assist me and called his manager and the two of them stayed with me until I got sorted.
Even though George was supposed to be going off duty he stayed on until the matter was sorted satisfactorily.

Visited with my son and grandchildren. Very easy to organize our visit, and the hostess was very responsive - our visit was confirmed promptly.
The children loved the site. It is not extensive; all sections are connected and the distance between is very manageable for small feet and/ or persons worth limited mobility. The paths are not ready suitable for buggy but my 2 year old granddaughter was all able to move between sections under her own steam.
All sections are titled and have individual themes, yet all connect. It's a well maintained site, with plenty of opportunity to play and use imagination!

I brought my son to Away with the Fairies today. We had such a lovely afternoon, exploring the beautiful fairy gardens. There is plenty to keep the kids entertained - search the fairy trail for clues, toy café, colouring, hop stotch and writing letters to the fairies. You can also do arts & crafts decorating for a small fee.
Rachel was very welcoming and chatty, she clearly loves her business.
Tea, coffee and soft drinks (and biccies!) are provided free of charge which was so unexpected and such a lovely touch. There are picnic benches too to enjoy the surroundings.
There is a gift shop selling an array of fairy items, priced to suit every budget.
My son loved it and I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

This (writing about Kennys) is a very difficult and easy task all at once: I retired from 30+ years of working at various branches of a university library system, a dozen years ago. I recall(ed) that we (the libraries' acquisition department and various section heads within the system of more than a dozen library branches) used to order from Kennys... However, I did not "verify" this fact, until recently, when I accidentally "re-discovered" Kennys when I had reluctantly placed an order for a book through an online bookseller, from Europe. When I received the said volume, I wanted to contact Kennys and verify whether they were indeed the one and the same (since they have been in business for 80 years, now!), and with that verification a certain satisfaction --which cannot be easily described-- was achieved...
At the time of my 2 online purchases (one indirectly, through that other chain online bookseller, and then directly through their own), I think seeds of the following wish were planted: to visit the store someday. Well, that "someday" came a lot sooner than I had thought probable or possible.
On 26 March, 2025, accompanied by my daughter, I had driven from Dublin, to Galway... with the specific destination on my mind, ahead of all else! Kennys Bookshop and Gallery.
Upon arrival, I told my daughter, that from the aroma of books, and the scene before my/our eyes, I felt I had arrived in "heaven" and I repeated this to every single staff member at the shop. I explained a version of my story above, to each member, and I was delighted to meet as many employees as we could.
I had visited Foyles of London, in summer of 1975, and now, much older and with decades of handling books at various levels (from acquisition, to cataloguing, etc.), I felt like I was "young again" in body and soul. THAT is an indescribable feeling. I used to feel it more often, and I am glad that at long last, I had the chance to visit this wonderful place and space, and those running it, in person!
I do hope to return, someday, again, and spend more time there; the shop was going to close within the hour of our arrival, and even though I was kindly offered to linger at least until half-past closing time, I felt that I did not want to overextend my welcome.
Another day, another time, I hope, to spend hours in there, as I once did at Foyles, decades earlier.
For any and all book lover, reader, collector, or just "a tourist" visiting Galway, I highly recommend spending some time at this place, and enjoy the sights, the sounds (quiet and reverential for me) and even the aromas and feel of the printed matter, bound, all around!

Well, lots of positive reviews. But this has not been my experiences, I've ordered several books over the years online and there is always a issue, late post, no books delivered, no contact from the shop and this latest order is no exception. Waiting two weeks, no word, I got in contact (the titles are not rare or difficult to source, as far as I know). Got a reply then no follow up, zilch. I appreciate some titles take 9 working days to source but it's just a negative experience again and again. There are so many good, small, online booksellers (Chapters etc...) from my perspective - this is not one.

I have ordered books with no problem for the last two years. However this time one of them was faulty. After I provided photos I asked for a replacement or refund. They delayed the process of replying (they sent back a message only after 7 days EACH TIME) so I can't get a refund because my order date is nearing three months despite having the receipt in hand and they want me to send the book back with my OWN money from shipping to get a refund. So now I have a faulty book that was supposed to be new and no refund. Thanks a lot. I won't be ordering again because I now see you can't even provide the minimum of help for people who are given faulty products. And if you're gonna reply like you do to everyone else don't bother because you already have the order details in your mail and you refuse to answer more than once a week and actually solve the issue. You just scammed me out of my money.

Am so disappointed. Went into Sports Direct on a Friday morning to exchange my son’s runners for a bigger size, incurring fuel and parking costs. However as I’d ordered them from Sports Direct online, the shop refused to exchange them. The staff were very apologetic stating it’s Sports Direct policy that you’ve to post back your items to their warehouse which seems to be at your own expense. What a joke. All other stores like Next, Lifestyle, etc., deal with orders and exchanges instore. It would actually bring in footfall to an otherwise empty shop. To add icing to the cake, when I was inputting the order number into their webpage to print the return docket to do said posting back of item, it said it didn’t recognise the code…this code is on the front of the package and in their own docket in the bag. This seems to be a breach of consumer rights.

Second time I have visited this place and found them to start closing in sports direct at 15 to closing, I actually had security shout up the escalator at me telling me that their closing which I found rude and made me as a customer feel like I had been doing something wrong. I understand that they need to prepare and remind people that closing time would be shortly but not like this, and I wasn't taking my time, I knew what I wanted and was heading in the direction of it. For the most part, the pricing you'll find is similar pretty much everywhere you go from my experience, so it really comes down to selection and customer service. This place had a very wide selection (among the most of the several places I went in Ireland) as well as was well staffed (some of the other places we went to had sweaters piled high so you had to go digging to find what you wanted which wasn't the case here and didn't have enough people to man the store as well as more than a register or two). I cannot fault the experience I had at Suit Republic. From the moment we walked in the door, despite it being busy during the Galway Races, we were well looked after by Darragh and the other staff members.

Back in Galway this spring, I wanted to buy a new one in my size. The store carries hand knit sweaters with name of person who made them. They are much higher quality and sturdier than any of the machine made items you'll see around in other stores. There are also machine made sweaters for a lower price that are still good quality. She also has a great selection of hand woven scarves/throws that are gorgeous works of art. Always dread the suit shopping but Mike was so helpful trying out different outfits on me, mixing and matching and I never felt rushed or felt like i was under any pressure to buy. I landed in this boutique for the 1st time ever while visiting Galway a little after 5pm on Saturday evening having looked online the night before I had an idea of what I wanted , however from the minute I walked in the door I was blown away by the amount of fabulous stock they had there was nothing I didn’t like , the sales assistants need an extra special mention as they were so friendly and welcoming and really helpful they honestly couldn’t have done any more for me and due to the time in the evening I was never rushed , I love an honest sales assistant in a boutique and this is exactly what you get here one lady helping me ensured the dresses I had chosen were fitting perfectly and was well able to advise me on sizing and styling .
I left with 2 stunning dresses which I can’t wait to wear and I can’t wait to visit this boutique again .
Since coming home Iv raved about this boutique so much, my friends have also found dresses online they love I even advised a friend to just ring you to ask about sizing etc as I know they’d be happy to help . Nothing is to much for the ladies in this boutique, they go above and beyond.

The young lady that served us was very helpful and polite. We tried on a lot of dresses and some of them twice and she was very patient with us, giving her opinion but not forcing one on us. Their sale was excellent and my daughter ended up buying a dress in sale there but other than their sale items it's very expensive. Majority of their dresses are close or over 400 euro!

We had a wonderful experience at the Sweater shop! We try to shop local family owned when available, and this shop was perfect. The owner was there working while we were in and was very friendly and helpful. The prices are comparable to the bigger chain stores, but the service was unmatched! We lucked out as they were also having a really wonderful sale, so we were able to get gifts for nearly everyone on our list for a fraction of what we expected! The free shipping back to the USA was also a real bonus since those sweaters take up a huge amount of space.

I'm sorry to sound like such a raving enthusiast, but we ended up spending well over an hour in this delightful little store; and bought several sweaters, scarves, and hats - and all of them are simply GORGEOUS. It was a high point of our trip, as we now can enjoy these sweaters and scarves for years to come - and whenever we put them on, we'll remember this wonderful little shop. Wow! What a lovely experience at the Sweater Shop! Alva is the kindest person and made us feel so welcome. Their products are beautiful. My husband and I both are the proud owners of two Aran sweaters.

Upon entering the shop we were warmly welcomed by owner Triona, who assisted us in selecting a beautiful wedding guest outfit, complete with a headpiece, bag and earrings. What a find...... I didn't know of this boutiques existence untill this morning.... So I made it my mission to drive and find it! I was not disappointed the store is large bright airy and spotless stocked with the most beautiful dresses and occasionwear and ofcourse accessories. The staff were very presentable polite, helpful and most of all honest and patient ...I recommend that anyone with a special occasion comming up or who loves smart casual clothing to go visit this store.
