We had the fried green tomato and crab empanadas as appetizers. Both were flavorful and fresh. We then ordered a house salad with blackened shrimp and fig balsamic vinaigrette dressing to split as a main course. It too was excellent. The only negative were the margaritas which were exceptionally tart and had no tequila flavor. The owner was lovely to speak with. We would return.

Nice vibe, with a balance of indoor and outdoor seating. Great service and good food. The menu was not as clearly marked for gluten as I would like, but our server was knowledgeable and thorough with double checking with the kitchen. I safely enjoyed some fish tacos with tasty rice and beans. I would highly recommend and go back if I get to make it to the island again :)
If you have a car on the island parking is limited but there’s plenty of parking that’s not a far walk from the restaurant. We were there end of May so I’m not sure if that changes in peak tourist season.

My wife and I visited here recently after being recommended by a local. The food was fantastic! The scallops served up cajun style might just be the best meal I have had in my 62 years. We loved the atmosphere, the service and the live music wad nice as well. Everything was fresh and made to order! Great job!!! We will be back!

Our absolute must stop in Ocracoke! I know it sounds crazy but our favorite thing on the menu is their grilled cheese! We are so sad that it is now only on the lunch menu though! Ordered two blue plates (Drum and Mahi) and finished with the banana bread dessert. The fans kept the breeze going and didn't feel sticky on a 90-degree day. Our waiter was fantastic. The absolute best, freshest oysters we’ve ever had! Server said they’re from Cedar Island. Plump, salty, briney sweet, juicy and clean with no shell fragments, crabs or sand. Service was great. Spicy margarita was amazing and worth the ferry ride by itself! Really enjoyed the selection of 5+ hot sauces! Prefer non-dairy butter so that was also a plus. 10/10 would recommend and return as often as possible.

We had lunch here because we were able to bring our dogs. The waitress Kimberly was great, she had a lot of knowledge about the menu and drinks and was very attentive. She even alerted us when others with dogs were coming in.

Ate here for lunch, took my two dogs and they were able to sit outside with us. Food was great. Options were good. I had the raw oyster combo and mahi tuna taco. My wife had the barefoot burger. Our first time coming and it was amazing. We started with the guacamole, which was unbelievable. Definitely get it! Then had one of the specials the crab stuffed flounder which was so good. Also had the tuna steak sandwich which was cooked to perfection. Our server definitely made the visit. They had local music which was awesome.
Only thing I will say is the upgrade to onion rings not worth it. And the remark from the hostess that sat us about leaving as soon as we were done was quite rude.

The food at this restaurant is above average for typical tavern/pub food. The oysters on the half shell were good and the cup of cream of crab was delicious. My neighbor had seared tuna that looked perfectly prepared. There is a small but interesting assortment of draft beer and a full bar is available for drinks or cocktails. The service is friendly and professional, and the feel of the place is warm and inviting. I just wish they would serve all this in other ways than on disposable cardboard and/or plastic silverware, cups and plates.

We enjoyed dinner at the Flying Melon yesterday. I had baked oysters as a starter. They were wonderful. Just done, the oysters were juicy and flavorful. My main course was an encrusted red drum. Caught just off the island this was fresh and delightfully flavorful. I'd have these two things any day.

Went here to celebrate our kids 1st anniversary in October of 2025. We had a mix of the fresh fish flounder & drum specials with burre blanc sauce that were absolutely delicious. Then we decided to split the desserts - a strawberry cheesecake, chocolate torte & coffee creme brulee. Holy cow! Food was ok, thai shimp appetizer was delicious but you could tell the hot strimp sat on the cold slaw too long by time it hit the table.
Drinks were great, and server was super nice. Order was input incorrectly, then was charged full price for the wrong dish. Not what I would expect from a customer service perspective.
Will update the review next time we go, regardless, definitely worth checking out. I have a feeling by mediocre review will be updated 😎

I’ve been coming to SmacNally’s for years back when I used to live in Ocracoke for the summer, this was always my go-to lunch spot. The best part? Nothing has changed the food is just as amazing now as it was then. The service is always friendly, and those burgers and fries are still 10/10, my absolute favorite meal here.
There can be a little bit of a wait, but that’s only because everyone wants a piece of SmacNally’s (and trust me, it’s worth it). On this visit, we grabbed some calamari to start so good! It was a unique outdoor dockside dining experience. Very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, people these days are not very considerate and tend to be loud and obnoxious. There's always one person who has to be the center of attention. So that made us rush through our meal so we could leave. I think there's too much seating, making things too tight for a quiet dinner. This place is extremely busy in the mornings!!! Good thing is they have 3 or 4 baristas taking care of patrons. Drip coffee is extremely hot. I would recommend asking for a few ice cubes. In addition their breakfast items that you would normally find heated up are not. For instance, we had bacon and cheese croissants but they served them cold. That was weird. They would’ve been better heated up. We ate them at the outside picnic tables with our dog friends that we met on the island.
We also went back later in the day for smoothies. Less crowds, excellent smoothies and the girls behind the counter are very sweet! They just don’t like Benson Boone unless Joelle is working 😂

While the baked goods were good, they were most definitely overpriced. The staff were NOT friendly and offered no help with ordering or when questions were asked about menu items. Back Porch offers a good selection of seafood and other dishes. We tried several but found the consistency to be hit and miss. The wagu burger, excellent with a toasted sesame bun. Shrimp and scallop pasta on the other hand was served cool in the sauce lacked a flavor punch. One in our party felt their dish was undersized for the price. On the island, service is a little slower, that's to be expected. But sadly our service didn't meet expectations. Drinks went empty, an order was incorrect (but quickly fix - thank you) and request for other items slow. We enjoyed the atmosphere and people were friendly. We'll give them another shot and hope they just had an off night.

After reading the reviews this was our first stop after getting off the ferry. And, honestly, I would have loved to give this place a five star rating but…. I ordered the morning special of a crab and Swiss omelette. There were so many shells I had to spit out every other bite. The flavor was great but because I could only eat half of it, it definitely wasn’t worth the $25 we had to pay for it. However, my husband loved his breakfast tacos, our kids loved their breakfast: banana pancakes, eggs, bacon. I just wouldn’t recommend the crab and Swiss omelette.

We were here visiting from Ohio, and this restaurant felt just like visiting our local family restaurant back home! Except the decor was ocean-themed and we were surrounded by other tourists instead of farmers. The food was great - try the hash browns and the biscuits! After a week of eating rich food around the island, I was in the mood for something a little lighter for breakfast and wasn’t convinced the Pony Island Restaurant would have something to fit that bill. They did, though - I got an egg white scramble with spinach and tomatoes, which was perfect. The husband let me try a bite of his hotcake, which was fluffy and delicious.
Everyone on staff was very kind and helpful, and they made sure you always had a full cup of steaming hot coffee. Very reasonable prices, too! This was the perfect place to end our vacation, and we’ll be back next time we find ourselves back on Ocracoke!

Our party of four was seated without a wait at 9am Saturday morning in October. Don't try that during the warm months though. This place is popular and gets pretty busy. But definitely worth it.
The omelets are a favorite with us and don't skip those big, plate sized pancakes.

This shop is amazing!! Great place to stop by for an afternoon beer or glass of wine. They LOVE having dogs. They even gave our dog a full Bowl of water. Great place on the Island! We came over on the ferry from Hatteras so we could see the Ocracoke lighthouse. Ate at Howard’s because it was Sunday night (and that’s about the only place open past 4p on a Sunday) but it did not disappoint. I had the local fish sandwich and a unicycle beer. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Even in July, we were able to walk in past lots of people waiting for a table and sit at the bar. Had the blackened mahi sandwich with hush puppies. Tartar sauce is obviously homemade and completed the sandwich and then some. Mrs got the shrimp basket with a side of cole slaw that is again obviously homemade. Great food and portions as well great selection of mixed drinks and craft brews. Lunch and drinks little over $60 and no disappointment. As long as I'm in Ocracoke, will be stopping at Howard's.

My parents have been to Ocracoke twice and brought my husband, brother and sister in law this year. We were recommended this place by everyone - from nurses (don’t ask) in Nags Heads to the fisherman working the seafood shops in Hatteras where we’re staying. When we looked it up on IG and Google we saw this will be their last summer so this is a review, a thank you and a good bye. If you make it this season, you are among the luckiest of humans to experience this lovely place. Thank you Eduardo and Karen for working as hard as you do to bring your food which so evidently holds a piece of your heart and soul in every dish you serve, to tourists and locals alike. As people sit on your picnic tables and congregate around tacos and burritos (available on gluten free tortillas!) we get we to share an experience and meet each other… which I suspect has been the goal all along. Food and bev is a tough lifestyle and you have given so much to this beautiful slice of heaven we humans call Ocracoke, please know how much every Red Drum taco and Chilaquiles you have served has meant to us all. Breakfast & lunch will not be the same without you guys but you can end this season knowing the impression you have made on us all will live on forever. 🏝️ This was our first trip back to Ocracoke in 6 years and Eduardo’s is always a must and did not disappoint. We were so sad to hear that this will be his last season and also surprised to see it in a new location that accommodates more seating. My favorite taco is the cheesy pork tacos with pineapple. Also make sure you differentiate between pork and carnita tacos. They are not the same. At lunch time, expect 20 minutes wait for food! They are BUSY! Advice: Don’t get your drink out of the cooler until you have your food!
They also have a water bowl for your pets for you to borrow while you are waiting! This is the epitome of patron friendly outdoor dining!

Found ourselves craving fresh seafood and decided to grab lunch at Jason’s. Despite the place being quite busy, we were seated within about five minutes—a promising start!

The food was good, I recommend the Crab cakes and hush puppies (they have small pieces of onion and it's delicious)! I would not recommend that place. Some of their menu items is "market" price which is very common with seafood places so that's not the issue. Usually there is a board or something with prices. This place didn't have one so you have to ask the server. The issue is the server didn't know those prices, she was guessing 27, 28 etc. I guess I got lucky another server overhead this and gave the right price, which was 30 for crab cakes. It almost feels like they could tell you pretty much any random price. I didn't like that but it gets worse
Said crab cakes were a tasteless mush. Definitely not worth the "guessed" price. On top of that we came as a group but they didn't have tables big enough for us so we were split on different tables with different servers and different checks (not even adjacent or close by) which is ok however they still went ahead and charged the 18% gratuity based on 5 or more. Not only most places charge this based on 6 or more but the way we were split we were no more than 4 people per table so this is iffy at best. On top of that automatic gratuity they have the nerve to add ANOTHER "add a tip" on the final receipt. All that for nasty tasteless mush of crab cake.

These egg rolls were so deliciously fresh and crunchy. Every bite was full of minced pork, shredded carrots, cabbage and vermicelli. Dipped with their homemade sweet chili sauce, just divine!
SHRIMP SPRING ROLLS
Rice paper rolled with vermicelli, fresh greens, carrots, cilantro, and shrimp. Dip into the housemate peanut sauce for the best bite. Every bite was so crunchy and fresh, just delicious. The rolls were rolled nice and tight, zero spillage. Very impressed with how stuffed these were. So yummy.
DRUNKEN NOODLES
We got a medium heat and Thai level hot. Oh my lord these were tasty! We chose chicken for our protein. I love drunken noodles and Thai Moon’s style is veggie and flavor heavy, just how I like it. Chewy, flat rice noodles, onions, tomatoes, chilis, garlic and fresh basil leaves; every bite was just an explosion of saucy flavors and textures. In hindsight, we should’ve just gotten medium because the Thai level one had us SWEATING and chugging our drinks. Delicious nonetheless, but note to self stick with medium if you like spicy, but want to enjoy your meal.
Portions are generous, so you'll have enough for leftovers to enjoy the next day. Love the Thai food here, highly recommend!

Please take the one star reviews with a grain of salt. This is a ONE PERSON operation and the owner is obviously doing her best (and serving absolutely delicious food). The ordering protocol that you see in these reviews are because she is once again ONE PERSON and according to the sign up in her shop explaining the protocol, close to retirement. The fam and I got a variety of dishes for carry-out. Around 5:30 on a Wednesday the wait was still around 30 min, so definitely recommend calling in; then you can just roll up and the pick up is really quick. Big bummer is that it’s cash-only, but worth the inconvenience.
The shop smells so so good and carries a variety of Thai groceries (Maesri is legit) and clothing. People working there were super nice and were able to offer some suggestions on things to order. We got the green curry (mild still has quite a kick, but super flavorful), chicken ka pow (VERY authentic Thai spice level), pad Thai, egg rolls, chicken with veggies, and chicken with broccoli. Can’t speak for the others, but green curry and ka pow were super authentic. Really like how you can specify sizes- the small is definitely good enough for one to two portions (large is gigantic, see pics), which makes it an excellent deal.
I’ve had a lot of really good Thai so this isn’t the best out of all of them, but it def ranks up there. Really nice unexpected surprise.

This establishment just so happens to have the most convenient location as well as offers a large bike rental selection. They do have great ice cream but much more than that. The menu can be a bit overwhelming when first looking at it inside. I would suggest they also post the menu outside so customers can be ready when they enter. I simply only wanted a float. We talked with some of the people there eating and they all expressed how good the food was and a great service. We were there for one reason. We kept hearing about Pretzels stuff with Crab meat and we could not pass this intriguing dish and OH BOY it was DELICIOUS!!! They do an amazing job with that dish, the pretzel is baked perfectly, then they stuff it with a bunch of fresh Crab meat and the results will blow your mind. This amazing little place is attached to 1718 Brewing. Menu has a nice selection of items that are so much more than the standard "bar food". I had pork bbq tacos and my s.o. had the "pick 3" sliders. The flavors were AMAZING! We shared the Drunken Chicken Nachos. My husband got a Philly Cheese Steak and said it was great. It was good quality meat and it wasn't soggy. Just visiting the island and we saw they sold pizza. So we stopped and ordered the Popeye and added sausage. It was Amazing!!!!! Now it didn't have much of a "backbone" aka stiffness because of all the toppings, but this combination was a great orchestra together! We spent like $20ish for a medium and we each had 3 slices. Two people and still had 2 slices left over. I highly recommend this place if you like pizza. Also, the crust is not thick, which I highly appreciated ☺️ 🍕

This is typically the first place I visit when I’m on the island—Love their drinks! Was very excited to see they had Ocracoke fig syrup. I got the fig latte twice and it was so delicious. A little on the pricey side but I felt like the fig syrup made it worth it—It’s a treat and an experience!

Pro-tip… plan your Ocracoke trip around Helios’ Hideaway hours because you definitely need their fresh pita and hummus at minimum for your beach snacks, but we recommend getting a little bit of everything to share as it was all delish… our favorites… figgy pizza (seasonal special), Siren Pizza, hummus with harissa (hot but so good), hummus with pesto (seriously the best pesto!), any of the pita wraps, falafel, couscous salad sides, and baklava! We loved it all so much we made a second visit on our departure day to take some home with us! Will absolutely be back every trip to Ocracoke from now on! So delicious! I had the Crete pita with falafel and a side of lemon/basil couscous, and it was so good! The owner is so nice, and the little shopping center is like a community. This was the only restaurant which we visited for lunch and returned back for a repeat the next day. Lot of options, friendly staff, tasty meals. You order food and then can sit outside and eat. Thai Moon and Moonrakers tea share the same.outside seating area..in case you want to enjoy a cup of tea with your meal. We heard their breakfast is also very very recommended but did not get. There isn't a Walmart or a Food Lion on Ocracoke. If you're looking to fill your kitchen after you've arrived, you're here at the Ocracoke Variety Store. And they do have everything. A bunker of fish and meats, deli, commercial bakery, dry and canned goods, dairy and cheeses, beer and wine. (By state law, liquor can only be sold by a state ABC store.)

Great place to eat on Ocracoke Island. They have decent priced food, as well as a drink menu. Good food, very large portions. Covered deck seating on the water, so even a rainy day is fine. This place is right on the marina and you just can't beat the view, particularly in the evening. Gorgeous sunset, fresh breeze, open outdoor seating.
We were warmly greeted upon arrival by a friendly gentleman at the entrance. The wait staff was on time and got all our orders right. The food was good but the atmosphere probably bumped it up to great. Live entertainment was a lot of fun; the singer went around the room taking requests from each table in turn. It was my daughter's birthday and he got the crowd to sing happy birthday to her.
We stumbled into the Jolly Roger by luck that evening but rest assured next time we go back to Ocracoke it will be on the schedule in ink.

I had the shrimp quesadilla. The shrimp were salad shrimp (baby), probably frozen because the tortilla was soggy. A tortilla flipped in half, then cut in 3 pieces. One piece had 4 little shrimp on it. The amount of cheese you get was less than what they put on McDonald's cheeseburgers. NO SIDES $14.99. My other party had shrimp tacos, had a couple of breaded shrimp chunks, covered with a ton of cabbage, you get 2 small tortillas. $14.99 you get a fair amount of rice and beans. Looked at rest of menu. If you got the sandwich you had coleslaw, but 2.99 you could get fries. This put it at roughly average of about $19. Platters started around $21 on up. You will NOT have a cheap lunch. Wait service never checked on us to refill drinks or how food was. Waited a while for check, that's when they asked if we wanted refill before we left. No I was ready to go explore the island.... Sorry I have had better seafood at Long John Silvers, which is sad. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. Gave it 2 stars because of the view, otherwise 1 star.

We were traveling in our RV and took a ferry ride over to Ocracoke Island. Saw a flyer about this place on the ferry. So glad we stopped! The gourmet hotdogs were delicious! As were the loaded fries. As a bonus all the prices in their little shop were fantastic! Handmade earrings were so cute and only seven dollars each. Canned 20 ounce bears were only four or five dollars. They had cute clothes. Nice souvenirs. The owner was so fun to talk to!
I wish we were staying for more days, there are so many more items on the menu we would love to try.
