Exceptional pizza. Excellent service.
John's pizza restaurant is probably my favourite place to eat at, in Coober Pedy.
The pizzas are huge and generously topped. Lots of flavours to choose from, so something for everyone here.
Service is excellent and rapid, we waited a very short time for our meal and it did not disappoint.
This place has the potential to become a franchise, it really is that good.
Lovely outdoor seating and eating area, as long as the flies leave you alone....

スタッフさんがとにかく親切でフレンドリー！ちょっと戸惑っていたら声をかけてくれて、こちらの様子に気づいて笑顔ですぐ対応してくれたのでとても助かりました。観光客にも優しく接してくれるのが印象的でした。Lサイズのピザはめちゃくちゃ大きくてコスパ抜群！
4人でちょうどいいくらいのサイズなので、グループでシェアするのがベストかも。2人だと多すぎて持ち帰ることになるかも。持ち帰りする場合は箱が欲しいと伝えたら貰うこともできます。
味も美味しくて、また行きたくなるお店です！

I'm a little torn with this review. Was it's as good as other reviews say it is, NO but does it warrant a bad one,No. I'm being gracious with the stars.
This place has a nice out doors seating area or sit inside and eat.
The service it's self was good, nice ppl but it took over 30 mins to get our pizza's unfortunately. I didn't look like there were that many ppl in front of us waiting for Pizza, in fact there was no one getting served when we arrived.
The food, I got a half meat lover and half BBQ chicken and my mate got a coat of arms.
He said the coat of arms has a nice blend of kangaroo, Emu, cranberry and cheese.
The meat lover was very nice.
Unfortunately the BBQ chicken was lacking the chicken. The flavour was ok, the roasted veg was nice but something was missing besides the chicken.
Would I return, maybe.

Sean and his team have consistantly been providing, hearty, wholesome and fresh food for the benefit of all for many good years now.
The Menu is comprehensive with dishes ranging in Alphabetical order from Antipasto, pasta, pizza , scallopinis , salads, vegan options , through too Zuppas.
They are FULLY licenced with a fantastic array of, local and international ice cold beers wines, spirits, soft drinks and Coffees available.
The seating options are numerous from Dine in with table service, alfresco also with table service or take away service.
The Kitchen and food preparation areas are spotlessly clean as is the Personal hygene of staff. Non formal, quick efficient service at prices that are out of the dark ages.
You wont get this sort of fair deal in Brisbane , Sydney or Melbourne.
Plenty of free wheelchair accessable parking
Right in the heart of town.

A lovely spot to enjoy the sunset over Coober Pedy. The recently opened bar and restaurant is nice and the team working are all friendly and helpful. The menu is well priced and worth checking out.
Plenty of on-site parking and a great view over the township.
The shop inside has a beautiful collection of painted zébra stones to sell.

Easy to park, staff very pleasant, our egg and Bacon were delicious, you even received a little brownie with your coffee ( yum). The shop had lots of variety of clothes, soft toys and souvenirs. There was various seating, from booths,little tables for to or long ones for groups. There was outside seating, but as the wind was very strong, it wasn't that pleasant with all the dust.

Very average food, staff were ok not too overly friendly. The atmosphere was great and seeing the view is fantastic also, great sitting area outside. Good shop to buy some souvenirs. Toilets are very dirty.. also no prices for drinks so have to keep asking.

They smashed it out of the park. After visiting a couple of opal minds and at a loose end on what to do next, we popped into the Big Winch. Views of the town were fantastic, so I wasn’t expecting anything special. I ordered the laksa and Carola ordered the steak sandwich. The laksa was creamy and fragrant, the chicken succulent and the noodles perfectly cooked. I requested a sambal on the side which gave my dish that added kick. On asking would you like to share, there was none of it. I couldn’t fault the food, service and view. Coober Pedy is literally in the middle of nowhere but this place is well worth a visit if you’re passing through.

The cheesy garlic bread was absolutely amazing definitely worth the 16$. I’m pretty sure I traveled to a different planet when I had that cheesy piece of heaven. Just when I thought it couldn’t get better my burger with the lot came out. Biggest burger I think I’ve ever had yet I still probably ate it the fastest I’ve ever eaten a burger. The mix of different flavours is incredible very well made. Not sure who the chef is but that man needs a raise. My chips were also gold and crispy with the perfect amount of salt. Will definitely come back this place is so good. Definitely leaving a tip

This is the best you can get in Coober Pedy! The food is well made, and service is great. I had the nourish bowl, surprisingly fresh ingredients considering the desert location! Also had an amazing sweet potato fries, and a very tasteful chicken parm. Friendly staff. 10/10 in Coober Pedy.

Dinner with a view—and a side of existential joy
Stopped by The Big Winch for dinner and left wondering if I’d just eaten my way into a higher plane of existence. We ordered the pesto pasta and the grilled chicken burger, which I’m convinced were cooked by someone who made a blood pact with the flavor gods.
The pesto pasta was so good I briefly considered proposing to it. Fresh, herby, and just the right amount of garlic to make you question your relationships. The grilled chicken burger? Juicy, crispy, and stacked like it was trying to win a bodybuilding competition. I took one bite and forgot my PIN number.
Washed it all down with an Asahi and a Guinness, because why choose between light and dark when you can have both and pretend you’re sophisticated?
The staff were legends—friendly, fast, and didn’t judge me when I tried to lick the plate. Bonus points for the view: you can sip your beer while watching the sun set over a landscape that looks like Mars if Mars had better hospitality.
10/10 would eat here again. Might even move in.

Great meals, we received a $15 discount per person for staying at the motel, plus free first drinks. Meals were very quickly recieved even though all tables where full. Food was lovely, good size meals! Everyone satisfied.

What a lovely place, the staff are wonderful our room was lovely, clean, tea, coffee a fridge with milk in. But best of all I met Leanne she is a star, I asked her for directions to the bottle shop which is part of Opal Inn and it was a 2 minute walk but there was a fair few local aborigines hanging around so she drove me there and back. What a lovely lady 😍 we've not tried the food yet, but it's got everything you need. Would highly recommend, great room prices too and you get the use of their sister hotel pool.

What a find! The Outback Bar & Grill in Coober Pedy is a fantastic spot with delicious Greek and other food options. The Greek salad with lamb was absolutely amazing! Having visited Greece last year, I can honestly say the flavours are so authentic – it took me straight back there.
The staff were super friendly and happily catered to our gluten- and dairy-free needs. We loved it so much we came back for dinner and tried the Greek pizza — also incredible! Highly recommend.

Never met these folks before... rang up yesterday to ask for a bacon and egg sanga on toasted whole grain with a large VERY HOT cappo. 10 mins to spare. Turned up and it was all ready too go. The lady and her partner were really friendly so I gave them $20 bucks for their $15.50 bill.

I Had hardly waited 5 minutes before the coffee was served to me by a gently smiling lady and less than 3 minutes later the burger arrived in their airy and very pleaseant out door alfresco area. Well I can say that I have not really ever been a burger eater after learning that Big Macs
are 90% cerial and 10% pure beef fat.I know as I worked in the abbatoirs that supplied them, in fact all the American burger chains. Only CRAP.
The burger at down under cafe was a total delight! Home made 100% Aussie beef patty with ,bacon ,cheese ,fresh shredded icenerg lettuce, tomato egg ,red onion,barbecue sauce in a fresh baked bagel bun.Juicy, mouthwatering and no salt used in the cooking, rather , salt and pepper shakers at you disposal on the generously spaced tables.
This was a fast, fresh to order luncheon heaven the likes of which will continue to draw me back to this GREAT , PEACEFULL VENUE, less than 100 metres from the towns CBD..
The coffee was so good I managed to knock it off before I had got half way through the "Luscious Burger"
If you would like a casual, single, family or group experience without the yankee bull, this is not to be missed, i recommend 200%. Top tucker at low prices, with fabulous staff. 🥰😋

This place was recommended to me by a local as it supposedly has the best coffee in town. First, I ordered a hot skinny cappuccino in a cup. However, I found it to be on the weak side. After having had the egg, bacon, and cheese muffin (very nice), I ordered another hot cappuccino, this time in a mug. It was much better, and with two shots of coffee, well worth the extra $0.50.
There are also a variety of items for sale.

I really wanna support local businesses so came to this little cafe. They have a beautiful front but unfortunately it’s the worst breakfast I’ve ever had in the last 5 years. Dairy free for me but this avocado toastie doesn’t even come with real avocado! It’s the cheap avocado paste from supermarket! And scramble egg is dry and fishy. Dairy free shouldn’t make so much difference to a meal.
I’m not expecting a fancy breakfast in the outback but this meal is not acceptable for almost $20 pp.
Not sure if they changed a chef or what. The food is absolutely different from what is in the reviews.

Stayed at the Opal Inn Motel during our road trip and overall had a really good experience. Yes, the motel is definitely older and some of the facilities are a bit dated, but I was pleasantly surprised by how clean everything was. The rooms were spotless, and the bedding and bathroom were well-maintained. It’s clear the staff takes pride in keeping the place tidy and welcoming.
The staff were also incredibly friendly and helpful—always ready with a smile and useful tips about the local area. The location is excellent, right in the heart of Coober Pedy, close to restaurants, shops, and tourist spots.
The only downside for me was the parking situation. It's all gravel and dirt, which made it a bit tricky, especially when it's windy—dust tends to get everywhere, including into the room and onto the carpet. This could be a concern for anyone with asthma or dust sensitivities.
Despite that, the value for money is hard to beat. For travelers looking for a budget-friendly, clean place to rest in Coober Pedy, this is a solid option. I’d definitely consider staying here again in the future.

We decided to eat in the bistro as they offered a free drink and discount on our meal, which is lovely. I have seen other reviews that said meals were great; this was not our experience. Our meals were overcooked, our vegetables cold so not at all enjoyable.

Absolutely shocking the way we were treated driving back from devils marbles we’d booked and paid for a drive through powered site. It got too dark to drive so we had to pull over for the night. I knew I’d lost a night here but was unconcerned. We arrive before 12 pm and was told they’d resold our site and tried to give us a site that was either too small for the van or unpowered. The guy said he tried contacting us on that morning but it went straight to voicemail, he didn’t leave a message. I explained we were on the road and didn’t have a signal but he sold the site we paid for. They had my email address but didn’t try to communicate with us just treated us with nowhere to go. There was no refund for the remaining night offered I had to say just refund us 1 night which he did. $70 for 2 nights $31.50 refunded doesn’t seem like half of what was paid. Completely disgusting way to treat travellers so be careful when booking this place

We stayed 1 night in the caravan park.
We were self contained so didn't need the facilities. Staff were very friendly. We had dinner that night in the Opal Inn Bistro - we were given a free drink each and 15% off our food order which was very nice. We had the Chilli crab and prawn pasta - large servings and delicious!! Excellent service from the lovely French waitress.
The caravan park is a few inches from the IGA and we were able to take a walk around the town from the park.

The room was an experience we wanted, to sleep underground, however I don't think our room had been used for some time. Dirt from the walls and ceiling covered everything, tea cups, wine glasses, pillows, floor, bathroom floor inc the shower.
Reception staff were not customer focussed and looked like they didn't want to be there. He did smile tho. Overall experience was good, bed comfortable and clean. Need a small dimmed light as the room is very dark, can't see your hand in front of your face in bed dark!

The rooms here are massive, they have a kitchenette which is great.
The room has a fan or two. The bed is super comfy.
There is also a communal laundry inside.
The ppl are lovely and if you are arriving after hours it was very easy to get keys and find your room.
There is breakfast, I think it was about $20 pp and the there is a cafe/coffee shop inside too.
I would stay here again.

My dog and I have just returned from a lovely 3 night stay here, and we couldn’t recommend it enough.
I don’t think Ive had a better sleep than that in years! It’s so dark and quiet underground.
Check in was efficient and easy. The dog policy was clear and easy to understand.
Mel is an absolute gem. That woman needs a pay rise! Her attention to detail, her customer service skills, her dedication to the motel makes me want to return over and over. Nothing was too hard and everything was done with a beautiful smile! Thank you Mel and Katina for taking time out of your day to make this stay feel like we were visiting family!

The outdoor grass area was also absolutely perfect for sitting outside, having a meal, letting the dogs enjoy the grass too. We had the best night chatting, eating and getting to know the other guests and dogs staying for the night!

The location is great, right in town and close to the public noodling area. Unfortunately the room quality was not good with the open mine shafts being covered by upside down umbrellas and every few minutes we heard little bits of dirt/rocks landing in the umbrellas all night. The receptionist also was unhelpful and just handed us a key and gave us no information, but felt comfortable making disparaging comments about the local aboriginal people to us. We also did not feel comfortable checking out the opal room which despite the "open" sign was kept locked and often was where the receptionist's dog was kept. The dog barking was also an issue, particularly waking us up in the morning when the receptionist would be setting up the breakfast area and had her dog with her. She also discouraged us from even getting breakfast, saying "It's $20 and only continental, you don't want it."

I have stayed here twice. It is great insofar as it provides an interesting underground experience and is good to explore.
However, it needs upkeep - there was a smell of bad water or sewage, the outside carpets were worn and unattached, our bathroom door jammed, the entrance lock gave several patrons grief, switches weren't intuitive, or did not exist, and one gave a beep but appeared to do nothing. We are advised that there will be a charge if things are not washed up, but no plug is provided for the sink. We had a queen sized bed and two singles, but one chair. We couldn't find a switch for light in one room. 🤔 And that costs a pretty penny.

I've stayed at this park many times when I've been working as a teacher in Coober Pedy. The rooms are comfy, clean, and well appointed (smart TVs are highly desired when travelling nowadays for sure). Also, the pool is great and heated(!!) This is really important for me as I love swimming but hate the cold. The entire park is really well maintained and set up, plus, the staff are

A perfect stop in the SA outback on the way to Uluru. Staff are very friendly and incredibly helpful. Amenities are clean and very impressive. Plenty of showers and toilets, laundry facilities and an amazingly appointed camp kitchen and rec area. Sites are huge, and there's a great playground for kids, plus a gorgeous resort style pool with lounges under shade. So much to explore in Coober Pedy too.

I cannot express how wonderful the management of this Park has been. Clarissa and the whole team have gone way above for us as we had an issue with our car and it needed to be towed but they helped us store and move our caravan, gave us a lift to the airport and were just incredible in their help. The facilities are fantastic too - the pool is awesome, the playground great for the kids and bathrooms super clean. It was an easy walk into town and felt safe and secure. Oniste Pizzas and drinks were yummy too. Thank you so so much

Had a great time. We got the unpowered site for 40$ for two people. Showers are free but are limited to 5 minutes. Kitchen has everything but you’ll need your own plates and pots. Staff were so nice which is not common for the big4 in my experience. For camping it’s the best and cheapest. We stayed in one of the two-bedroom cabins and were really happy with it. The view from our room was incredible and each night we’d sit and watch the sunset over the red dirt, it was just beautiful. The pool was lovely and the park itself was great overall. It’s about a 15-minute walk into town, though we chose to drive as it was a bit too hot to walk.

We had a wonderful stay here as a family. The place is clean, tidy, and ideal for a peaceful getaway. We initially booked a campsite for 2 nights. Unfortunately, on the first night, strong winds tore through our tent in the middle of the night, forcing us to move into the common area for shelter.
The next morning, we approached the reception to see if any rooms were available. That’s when Clarissa came to the rescue! She went above and beyond, juggling room availability and somehow worked her magic to secure two rooms for us. What truly stood out was her kindness and willingness to help—she even arranged an early check-in knowing we had been up all night.

I was told how good the view was from the Italian Club at sunset and how reasonable the prices were so I went there to enjoy both of the above mentioned.
Met Mary, the one and only staff member of this club who was amazing.
When the door opened it was about 44° . She had alot of sympathy for the melting city slickers and served us some icy cold beverages to revive us.
While we were there Mary served us, and other patrons, quickly and efficiently, she cleaned and conducted many other tasks associated with bars. Mary even recovered a bottle of stolen plonk from a would be robber.

Me and my partner had an amazing experience at CK Confectioner Filo! We ordered the Pork Adobo and Katsu Chicken, paired with a Dirty Chai and an Iced Coffee, and everything was spot on.
The Pork Adobo was tender and flavorful, with that perfect balance of savory and tangy. You could tell it had been slow-cooked to perfection. The Katsu Chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, served with a delicious sauce that complemented it perfectly.

Korean chicken wasn’t like the authentic stuff but nice none the less. The Tocilog was delicious. Had a really good smooth as well.

Best steak sandwich in all our travels around Australia!
My husband had eaten and compared many steak sandwiches in our travels. He declares the 'Korean steak sandwich' at 'Ck Underground Filo-Asian Food Hub' in Coober Pedy by far the best he has eaten. It's a steak sandwich with a Korean twist using bulgogi steak and gochujang coleslaw. The sandwich is creative, delicious and the steak cooked to absolute perfection. And by the way, their chicken and mushroom pie which I tried was also delicious. I drooled over their other pastries, pies and cakes which look equally as impressive! The underground section of the restaurant is gorgeous. As it's carved out of the rock, it is a cool little oasis in the heat of the desert outside. There is a superb staircase leading down to the roomy restaurant and it is tastefully furnished and decorated. What a gem - lucky Coober Pedy!

Stopped in Coober Pedy after many days on the road looking for something with flavour. Oliver’s Chicken Biryani was the special of the day and it was sensational. Best I’ve ever had. My partner had bacon and eggs which were very good. Great coffee and iced latte. Friendly service and clean.

My experience at Oliver’s Ampol’s Restaurant is one of the best in Coober Pedy. The food is absolutely divine — always fresh and full of flavour. The service is excellent, and I especially love their Indian dishes. My favourite has to be the big breakfast and fish and salad— it’s just lovely!
I enjoy visiting different restaurants around town and sharing my experiences because Coober Pedy is a small community, and it’s nice to support our local businesses. But I have to say, Oliver’s Ampol’s Restaurant is truly one of my favourites. Great food, great service, oh I better not forget they make the best coffee in town!.. ⭐️

A great place for a pit stop for travellers and locals alike.
Everytime I visit , there are locals at the tables indulging in the fresh daily CURRIES on offer.
This sends the message that something exceptional is happening here.
The servers are friendly and clean in their appearance and food service.The curries are the highlight of the menu on offer with their extras and condiments. However if curry is not what you are after ,their choice of foods available are extensive and wholesome with everthing from Vegan options to that of seafood and Meat lovers selections. Atmosphere is very casual, cosy , cool and ambient private tables for seating up to 8 persons. Lots of wheel chair accessable parking with all fuel varieties, snack and tobacco bar, and mini deli.
For a quick one stop shop when travelling through Coober Pedy, this venue is well worthy of consideration against the larger, louder and busier Servos.
You will be happy you pit stopped here!
