We absolutely loved our stay at Zanzistar. Arriving at the hotel felt like stepping into a little forest oasis, immediately giving us a sense of peace and relaxation.
Its location is perfect—close enough to the beach for an easy walk, yet tucked away just enough to enjoy privacy and calm whenever we wanted.
The true highlight, however, was the food. Every seafood dish we tried was exceptional, fresh, and full of flavor. We enjoyed every meal.
The staff were wonderful—warm, attentive, and always making sure we had everything we needed. In particular Peter, the manager, was incredibly helpful and really supported us in organizing our trips, which made our stay even more enjoyable.
The design was beautiful and thoughtful, created with a love for every detail.
Our room was both cozy and airy, with an inviting atmosphere that made us feel instantly at home.
We would return to Zanzistar in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable getaway.

Sooooo schön in Zanzistar! Wir hatten das Zimmer direkt am Strand ... einfach, aber alles da, sicher, sauber und einen unbeschreiblich schönen Blick direkt auf den Strand ... einfach die Türen öffnen und im weißen, weichen Sand stehen! Toll!!
Auch das Frühstück war lecker, der Service klasse - Peter hat uns geholfen, für zwei Tage einen Scooter zu mieten ... unbedingt machen! ... und für uns eine Tour durch Jambiani organisiert. Das Personal ist super-freundlich. Highlight war sicherlich auch der Kinoabend unter dem Sternenhimmel und dazu lecker im Hotel zu Abend gegessen.
Auf jeden Fall eine 100%-Empfehlung!!

eine tolle besonderheit bieter sonntags die "movie-night". hier wird der garten zum open air theater und sorgfältig kuratierte filme laden zum kino ein. darauf abgestimmte signature drinks und cocktails sowie gratis popcorn bescherten uns 2 wunderbare abende.
der manager der lodge ist deutschsprachig und führt sein team locker und fachversiert und trägt mit sicherheit einen großteil des erfolges. alle mitarbeiter waren sehr freundlich. wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

Mango Beach House was wonderful! Set on the beach front and within the heart of Jambiani village, it's the perfect mix of relaxation and engagement with the locals, who are very relaxed, warm and inviting. Our hosts went out of their way to make us feel at home and Beth's expert knowledge on Zanzibar was a massive bonus. We spent 7 nights in Mango Beach House and had an absolutely amazing time. It`s is a beautiful, intimate guesthouse with only a few rooms set around a pool, right on the beach. The rooms are uniquely decorated with antiques that Beth, the manager of this place, lovingly collects on markets and antique shops in Stone Town —every detail is thoughtfully curated.
What truly sets this place apart is the people. Beth, Dullah, and their amazing staff go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. From helping us negotiate a fair taxi fare or kindly lending us a Tanzanian SIM card to organizing a surprise beach bonfire for my son’s birthday, nothing was ever too much trouble for them. They made us feel like family.
Beth even spent hours with me in town searching for a traditional Bao game—something I’ll never forget. If you're looking for a warm, welcoming stay in Zanzibar, Mango Beach House is pure magic.

Perfect location in Jambiani and near Paje. The hotel is small, quiet and absolutely beautiful. We spent 7 nights there and it was really awesome. Kiddo and his team make you feel at home, they are always there to help you organize something . The hotel is near others which is great if you want to explore others restaurants. The breakfast is delicious, take the pancakes! The beach is stunning and will offer you wonderful sunrise.

My husband and I stayed with the beautiful Mango Beach House 4 nights and thought more than once that we should have extended the stay. The house and the garden are beyond beautiful, not to speak from the perfect location directly on the beach. The water comes up with the flood right in front of the doorstep of the Mango Beach House! The rooms are lovely, decorated with fresh flowers, clean and with great view from the bed directly to the beach and sea.
The Mango Beach House was definitely the most impressive location during our stay on the island.
Staff is very friendly and the restaurant/café does great breakfast and dinner. We enjoyed very much the pancakes in the morning with fresh fruits and juice as well as the delicious local fish dishes for dinner.
The place is perfect for relaxing, enjoying the beach, doing daytrips like fishing, snorkeling.
We also loved to chill with the sweet cats and dogs living here.

Very lovely decorated guesthouse, beautiful rooms with a great bathroom an a hot shower. The location was perfect right at the beach and close the the village at Jambiani. Staff could have been a bit more attentive but we really enjoyed our stay.

Amazing stay! Instead of booking a hotel room, we chose a separate house thats also belongs to the hotel. The house has a spacious kitchen with a dining table, two separate bedrooms, and two bathrooms. If you miss anything in the kitchen, the friendly owner lives next door and is happy to help.
This place is perfect if you’re looking for comfort and the option to cook your own meals. Plus, it’s much more affordable than similar accommodations.
The location is fantastic, just a two-minute walk from the beach. You can relax in the hotel’s private garden, where you can safely leave your belongings, read a book on the comfortable lounge chairs, and enjoy the ocean view.
The beach itself is peaceful and has an authentic, untouched charm. Both the hotel owner and the manager, Alex, are incredibly friendly and flexible.
They can also arrange any activities you’d like to do on the island. For example if you want to rent a bike just ask Alex and hell fix it.

Wenn man Essen bestellt, wenn jemand kommt, benötigt man sehr viel Geduld. Teilweise haben wir über eine Stunde auf unser Essen gewartet. Das Essen ist lecker, allerdings sollte man weit bevor man hungrig ist bestellen.

It’s located on one of the cleanest beaches on the East Coast and so close to the water that you fall asleep to the sound of the waves. When you step out for a walk along the shore, it feels like a cozy movie scene—just one step and you’re already on the sand.

Very disappointing experience
We stayed at this hotel as a group of four and were initially placed in a bungalow that was in unacceptable hygienic condition and completely overpriced.
After just one night, we wanted to leave. However, the management insisted we stay and moved us to another room, which was only marginally better.
The bathroom was essentially a wet room—ideal for mosquito breeding. There were no proper windows, so mosquitoes could enter freely. The mosquito net was full of holes, there was no place to store clothes, and people could look directly into the room from outside with no way to secure privacy. (Photos attached.)
Only after a second complaint—when we mentioned we were friends of their neighbors—were we moved to a room on the first floor. This room was finally acceptable and worth the €50 per night.
Unfortunately, things got even worse: during the day, we and other guests (including a ground floor room and another couple on our floor) were robbed. We lost cash and are certain it was someone with access, as there were no signs of forced entry. The police confirmed this in their official report.
The owner showed no empathy or willingness to accommodate us. On the contrary, we were told we should be glad that only cash was stolen. Despite the lack of any goodwill or compensation, we were still charged the full amount—including breakfast, even though we never had it.
Overall, this stay was stressful and deeply disappointing. Hygiene, security, and customer service are far below acceptable standards.

We spent three nights at New Waves, a charming hotel with plenty of potential — though a few downsides are worth noting.
The room was simple but lovely, equipped with air conditioning and a mosquito net, which made it very comfortable. The pool is truly beautiful (see photo), perfect for relaxing at the end of the day. Another odd detail: there’s a large window with no curtain between the kitchenette and the bedroom, which means the sun shines directly on the bed. I recently had the pleasure of staying three nights at the Wonderful Ocean Villa in Sansibar, and I must say that my experience was fantastic! From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warm hospitality of Jan and his wife.

Amazing place to stay! The owners are very friendly and they provide a lot of conveniences like a fridge full of drinks and fresh fruit every morning. The Villa is very close to the beach and has a restaurant across the road. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment, which provided plenty of space for the 3 people in our group. When I stayed here last year the Maasai security guard (with blue shuka cloth) was being very inappropriate and I caught him spying on me when I came out of the shower. We had a really wonderful stay at Jasmin Garden. Nico and her great staff were wonderful hosts and very helpful with anything. The rooms and bedrooms are very big and stylish, super comfy and spotlessly clean. The beech is just a brief walk down the (Albeight narrow) public way. We made ample use of the shared kitchen and loved sipping coffee on the sofas outside the bedroom . The kitchen is fully equipped and has everything to supply yourself when needed. Nico put her heart into the place and it shows. We will gladly come back to Jasmin.

A charming boutique hotel right on the beach in Jambiani. I had a very pleasant stay at this tastefully designed hotel - the room was very comfortable, the WiFi was perfect for me to be able to work remotely, and the kitchen was fully equipped with everything you'd need for a short or long stay. The open kitchen and the spacious seating also served me as a nice working space. The host and staff are very friendly and I felt at home. I am so happy I decided to book this place. It is a boutique place I discovered after few bad experiences around the island.
The place is super clean, bedsheets & towels were imaculate. Everything is new and very nice decorated and the bathroom is amazing, it has oriental design and looks super cute.
It has a very well equipped kitchen and it is 1 minute walk from the beach, I had my coffee on the beach every morning seeing the sunrise. The beach next to the place is absolutely gorgeous.
Also Nicoleta is the best host ever, the soul of the house. She makes sure everything is in order and can give the best advise what to visit around and where to go. As a vegan I really needed some help.
It has security and the best internet I had when traveling around. Recommend the place 100%.

The restaurant is in Be Zanzibar resort. If you stay at the hotels next to it, you can walk during low tide up the wooden stairs from the beach.
The service is good and everything we ordered tasted amazing especially the tuna burger and coconut icecream mentioned in other review. However I think it’s overpriced especially being in a resort with average $150-200 per night room rate. However this is a nice break from the limited options we have at our hotel restaurant.

We had a really enjoyable evening and dining experience here, as we only used the restaurant service. We tried more than five different dishes, and everything was fresh and delicious. There were a few minor hiccups, some mosquitos and a brief power cut, but honestly, they didn’t take away from the overall experience. We asked for mosquito spray, and the staff brought it over right away. The good food, laid back vibe, interior design and friendly service made it all worth it. We also appreciated the attention to detail throughout the place. Wishing all the best to the team running such a wonderful facility.

Wir besuchten das Casa Coco direkt zweimal, weil es uns so gut schmeckte und gefiel.
