Delicious as always, since moving to Dubbo visiting Short Street Store has become my weekend treat whether it's grabbing a quick takeaway, dining in with family or popping in during my lunch breaks in the working week. The breaky wraps continue to be my fave, with an added oat iced latte with a shot of caramel of course. Short Street hits the mark everytime with their coffee, meals, sweet treats and more. Love the specials. The staff are always super friendly.

So my Mum’s now husband used to own this store back in the day when it was the neighbourhood milk bar, so had to come and check it out. Apparently they lived in the residence and ran the milk bar / kitchen from the front room.
We nipped in for a late breaky and was impressed with the food. The B&E roll I ordered was delicious and kept me full for the majority of the day.
We sat inside in one of the back rooms as it was raining but would be nice on a sunnier day sitting outside in the courtyard.
Definitely worth stopping in for a feed if you love locally or passing through town.

A café that really surprised us—in a good way.
Right from the start, it felt different. Thoughtful touches were everywhere, from the layout to the little details. You could tell someone actually cared.
Service was warm and efficient. We were greeted straight away and made to feel welcome. Before we even ordered, it was clear this place runs with heart.
The gluten-free menu was done well. It wasn’t just a token option—there were plenty of choices, and each one was marked clearly with a small flag.
One detail that stood out: all the women at our table were served first. It was a simple gesture, but it said a lot about the care behind the scenes.
The food was spot on. The hash brown was house-made and crisp—not the frozen kind. Pancakes (gluten-free) were a hit, and the bacon and egg roll was packed and cooked just right.
We all had different egg requests—some runny, some not—and they nailed every one without issue.
It’s the small things too: a bite-sized brownie with each coffee, a quiet green courtyard, and tidy, unfussy decor.
Only minor note: the cappuccinos were a bit heavy on the chocolate, almost like a mocha. Nothing major, just a personal taste.

Sadly the food was a bit of a letdown. The eggs benedict and tikka eggs benedict did not hit the mark. The tikka shredded chicken was cold, minimal hollandaise, and the eggs were not runny. If you are chasing eggs benedict, there are much better and consistent places elsewhere in Dubbo. Probably would have been good to know that the hash browns were also indian inspired and not suitable with pancakes or other more western foods.
The bacon and egg roll/burgers the table next to us ordered did look great though.
The cafe looks rustic and old, which is quite charming.

After I finish my work commitments I make a point of exploring the cafe/restaurant offerings in small and large regional communities.
I discovered Short Street Store last August 2023 and visited again a few days ago.
Just as good and just as friendly.
Located in a quiet residential street about 1.5 km west of the Dubbo CBD, this cafe continues to look, feel and taste different to most of the local establishments.
Once again greeted with a wide smile and enthusiastic table service I ordered a toast dish that in my widespread travels remains unique. Call my lazy however I had to try it again.
Called a “Fancy Toast” (compared to what???) you get a two substantial pieces if Vienna white bread topped with a house made spinach and pistachio mousse. It was just as lovely the second time however my photograph probably does not do it justice. The cafe claims this fancy toast is awesome with bacon or chorizo - that delight is for next time in a couple of months.
Coupled with a freshly pressed “Green Juice” (apple, cucumber, mint, spinach & ginger) and a macchiato I set myself up for the long drive home. The juice is very flavoursome and will balanced. While the macchiato was very good I can’t give it more than an 8/10 rating. I am a bit of a coffee nut so forgive me the indulgence of hard rating. Having said that, I would still come back for another coffee. I had two while there.
If you really want an all day Breaky to fortify you for a long drive, try the Butter Chicken Bene - Vienna toast topped with baby spinach, pulled butter chicken, 2 poached eggs, curry hollandaise & crispy fried onions. Wow! Then there is the Breaky Risotto with saffron oil …..
So my suggestion in Dubbo is get out of the busy and rather feature less main street and head up to Short Street Store. I certainly will when I return in the near future. Looking around I could see the local community meets here for food and chat.

I love “hole in the wall” cafes. Venues which do not compete on trendy inside spaces with great furniture concentrate of the basics of good food and coffee with a touch of the owners personality. Who sits down at a cafe bar in Italy?
It was not hard to spot the front of Black Tambourine. Watch out for the slightly 1960s mock up of something from Toyota about ready to drive out of the wall.
It was cold in Dubbo yesterday so I was not keen on turning into a frozen desert while sitting outside. I head inside to a dark cavern which is part storeroom and part meeting area with a large table and a few small tables. I do not mind it all - it works for this type of cafe.
The food choices are limited given it is not designed to be a full service cafe. On the morning I was there the food was pre-prepared toasties of various sorts. The ham and cheese toasted croissant I chose ended up being a good cold mid morning snack and enjoyable.
In nearly all my reviews of cafes I have something to say about macchiatos which is my favourite method of enjoying coffee and a great test of a barista.
I ordered a macchiato. After a little confusion about what size is a macchiato we got there. The beans had a pleasing taste. I do not recall the beans they use however they work for macchiato in which you cannot hide behind a ton of milk. What I received was a little frothy rather than being a macchiato. Not the best technique but tasty enough.
While I found some fault in their offering I still gave four and five stars. The main reason was that the guys on duty (I do not know if any of them was the owner) were friendly and welcoming. I am not a Dubbo local however I could see they had a good relationship with their community. Also and most impressively, when I explained what I thought could move their macchiato more towards what should be a true macchiato, they not only received my comment well but thanked me for my feedback. That willingness to engage with me said much about their attitude to hospitality.
A useful thing for such a cafe is that there is plenty parking opposite the flour mill.
I visit Dubbo regularly so I will give them another go on my return. Good people deserve to be successful.

The lovely young lady in red who served us behind the counter today was so honest in not wanting to charge us for our original order (a large double shot latte), since my partner's keep cup was smaller than this 🤯 How's that for 5-star business integrity?! Breath of fresh air from Sydney. Add to this, their coffee sizing is EXTREMELY generous. What a winner!

We stopped here for breakfast and ordered two Dahab breakfasts and two cappuccinos. We were greeted and seated right away and our order was taken in a timely manner. The coffees and meals arrived quickly. The meal was a typical full breakfast, except that the mushrooms had a delightful sauce on them, and the hash brown was a formed mashed potato thing that was fried (unique). Everything was tasty and filling. The coffee was creamy and delicious. Everyone we interacted with were pleasant and friendly.

Food was amazing. Poached pear with pancakes, mixed berries was a lovely surprise. The people on the table next to me said mine looked so good that they had to order it. We booked a table the night previously and arrived on time and were greeted and seated straight away. Water was delivered instantly (amazing service) coffee order taken and appeared straight away. Dahab cafe may not have all the glitz and glamour of other cafes, but it does have great service, amazing coffee and delicious food!
There is a choice of take away, indoor or outdoor dining options. Table service is super friendly and efficient.
Coffees were on point and hit all the right checks for taste and temperature.
The food is amazing. This establishment has all the regular suspects but also a few dishes that take breakfast outside the box and keep eggs and the trimmings exciting. I had the hot pot and it was great. Bold Mediterranean flavours of olives and chorizo in a tomato based sauce served with a slice of thick cut sourdough with half a sliced avocado. The meal is both delicious and satisfying!
My friend had the eggs Benny 3 ways which included 3 poached eggs!!! He couldn’t finish there was so much amazing food!!

Get here early if you're coming on a Sunday! I arrived at 7:55 and was about 10 in the queue! After opening at 8am they seated everyone very efficiently and my coffee arrived within 5 minutes and it was then that I understood why there had been a steady stream of people arriving since they opened. This was the best coffee I've had in Dubbo by some margin. A coffee that would not be out of place in the trendiest of cafes in Sydney's inner west. Service was friendly and efficient and my big breakfast was excellent.
Prices were more Sydney than Dubbo but so was the quality.

We had a lovely breakfast here after a day of mediocre food on the road from Melbourne. Staff were helpful and efficient and the menu was eclectic and extensive. I had the avocado mash up on Australian shaped toast bread and my husband has the breakfast burrito. Generous servings accompanied by excellent latte and long black. Being one of the only cafes open on Easter Sunday there were a lot of customers but the staff were amazing, even having floor staff taking orders from people in line to reduce the wait.
The wait time on coffee and food were great, with good portions and very tasty (as per picture below) being a long black drinker, could instantly tell the beans are of high quality and was made as asked.

Nice little place in the high street of Dubbo. Food was tasty and quite filling - I couldn’t manage all the corn fritters with eggs I had.
The server we had was nice but it took ages for the smoothie we ordered to come so I finished most of my breakfast before we had to remind them about it which is a bit of a shame.

Loved our breakfast here.We went to so many places and then finally settled for their menu.I enjoyed my fruit toast and my husband had eggs with hollandaise sauce.The only problèm we have had everywhere ,is that they serve ham in every dish. As we do not eat ham and there are very few halal places.We always have to ask them to avoid putting ham .

Even though it looked like the team might have been a bit short-staffed, everything ran so smoothly — our food and drinks came out quickly and were absolutely delicious.
I went to the front counter, and the lady who served us (I can’t remember her name, but she had lots of tattoos) was amazing! Her customer service was outstanding — friendly, funny, and she really made the experience enjoyable.
Not only was she great with customers, but I also noticed how well she communicated with other staff members — polite, confident, and super organized. Everything flowed perfectly thanks to her leadership and energy.

We visited this beautiful café yesterday, and honestly, the reviews don’t do it justice! Despite how busy it was, Liberty’s service was absolutely outstanding—so polite, attentive, and communicative. Couldn’t fault her one bit.
Our coffees (a latte and cappuccino) were made by Rissa, and they were perfect—smooth, balanced, and truly delicious. Exactly how a good coffee should be.
The food options were impressive, and it was tough to choose, but we went with the matcha crepes and the crabby patty eggs bene. Both were incredible! Who knew matcha could taste so good in crepes? Hats off to whoever created that dish. And the crabby patty eggs bene… simply out of this world.
Even though the café was packed, everything came out in great time. We expected a long wait, but our meals arrived within 30 minutes, which was more than reasonable given how busy it was.
Overall, a wonderful experience—great food, amazing coffee, and service that really stood out.

Originally stopped here for coffee but there were quite a few seated outside and the food being brought to the tables looked pretty good. Reviews were all really positive so we decided to have some food as well. Where could we go wrong? The fact that we chose to eat, thats where it all went wrong.
I get that the cost of everything is so much more these days but with increased cost you expect the food to be decent. How can you get eggs on toast so wrong? The eggs were cold and how hard is it to cook toast? You couldn't cut it with a knife, parts were so overcooked they were just dried out and inedible, like they'd been sitting in a warmer and just crisped up and crisped up, other parts weren't even cooked. We had originally wanted the Crab Cakes Benny but after ordering and paying were told that it wasn't available but we could get the pancakes with pear and ricotta that was pretty much the same thing?! We changed that order to eggs on toast with a crumbed mushroom but had still paid more for the crab cakes. There was no offer of a refund of the difference and the menus seemed to be spirited away quite quickly before we could sit and work out the difference (which we'd already done and of course i could've just imagined that)
The Acai bowl was fine, maybe a little scummy on the fruit- one strawberry and four blueberries.
I do hesitate to give bad reviews for little local businesses but this place was so far from what I read online I was very disappointed.

Had an awesome experience at Village Bakehouse in Dubbo! The vibe was super cozy and welcoming, and the food really hit the spot. I ordered the scrambled eggs on sourdough and honestly, it was perfect — the eggs were fluffy and buttery, and the sourdough was fresh with that perfect crunch. And so did the kids love their pancakes. You can tell they really care about quality here. The coffee was great too, smooth and strong. We were looking for somewhere open on Easter Sunday and saw the Village Bakehouse was open. It was really busy but we managed to find a table upstairs (there's seating on the ground floor and outside too). The double cheese & bacon pie and jumbo sausage roll were quickly eaten by the younger members. My brekky burger was delicious and piping hot. This place was recommended by a colleague as a great place to grab a bite to eat, and they were right. The smoked Bacon and Egg roll was on a whole new level and the coffee was smooth with the right amount of punch. Just wish it was lunchtime because the pies looked and smelt amazing. It's not nearly as good as it used to be. Visiting prior to closing didn't help, so I went back next day. I purchased lemon slice in afternoon, which was quite nice, but next day nothing really appealed to me, so I left without purchasing anything as I couldn't be bothered queueing either.
The atmosphere has been updated with fireplaces, which are appealing on cold days for sitting by whilst eating indoors.

I've been coming to the Village Hot Bake since it was a tiny shop attached to the front of the bakery. Growing up, my school canteen used to get their pies from here. Now it's turned into a nice cafe with a wide selection of baked goods. Every time we come back to Dubbo we always pay a visit to grab a pie and a pastry.

Great location , plenty of parking , went there today and had breakfast first good food good service polite staff then went. Back for lunch then was choosing what sort of roll to get and noticed there was a cockroach there inside the roll we bought it up to the staff and the lady there informs us atm there are big cockroaches getting around while she was telling us that there was another cockroach climbing over food that was there to be sold and this is all food like rolls sandwiches so we decided not to buy anything at all but disappointing
If there is a cockroach situation they need to really get it fixed not try to sell food with cockroaches inside the roll and crawling around

We came in today and purchased 2 large coffees to go, a bacon and egg roll, custard tart, butterfly cupcake & croissants. Approximately $30ish in total which wasn't too bad (would have cost more at McDonald's for less quality and still been hungry afterwards) & we got to support a local hardworking business which was most important to us.
Coffees were fine, tasted a little bit burnt but they were busy so it's a case of wait longer or deal with it and we were ok with that (Still better than fast food coffee). Thankfully I had sugar in my bag as we forgot to ask for sugar and there was no prompt for any.
Bacon and egg roll was fantastic. Bread used was delicious!!! REALLY REALLY DELICIOUS.
My husband is a man with minimal compliments and said he enjoyed he custard tart and complimented the croissant (noting he is French) and said while it's not traditional French croissant they did well.
Staff were really lovely too. I miss these types of bakeries, I wish there was more around like this one.
Next time we are in Dubbo we will definitely return and will recommend them to family and friends.
I recommend everyone come visit this business, not only was it delicious but it's supporting small businesses and was reasonably priced.

We went out of town and looked for Thai food but we're disappointed.
The outdoor atmosphere is pretty, a lot of plants around; the staffs are nice; good presentation of the entrée.
However, the quality of the food just so so. Not as expected, especially the main course. The curry and soup were watery, mild flavour, the mushrooms still raw and the proportion was small if compared to the price. We ordered sticky rice, it was tiny and wrapped with plastic so we asked to change for steam rice...
I've been to Thailand and know what should Thai food taste like. I don't recommend if you're looking for amazing Thai food. But if you want to have a chat with your friends with snacks, it can be an option.

Perfect portions, wasnt too much or too heavy for a breakfast/brunch option.
I do wish they had like maybe a light option for a brunch or lunch type feel but I can understand why they wouldn't.
New management is good, staff are super friendly and the atmosphere outside was great! Some fans in the future may be good..but thats my own preference. It was a warm morning sun was nice under the shade and seating was great.
Smell of coffee and food was great.
Despite being on the main road the noise wasnt there unlike some places, it was great!
Can't wait to return to try it again, I'll be going with a coffee as my partner stated his was cream and delicious! (Capp with vanilla shot).

I needed the GFO option and what I received was a bunch of lettuce and one piece of GF bread with smashed Avo, chicken and cheese. Where was the pesto etc.? My partner had a real salad including tomato, cucumber and onion. I just had a big pile of lettuce. I do not understand why so little effort was put in just because I chose GF. This generously spaced cafe features a terrific courtyard and a garden nursery. The portions were decent and there was a wood fired pizza oven as well. The coffee was above average and there were heaps of wait staff as well. The only diown) downside is the number of flies buzzing around but I guess that's Dubbo for you, and our order was mistakenly taken. Otherwise it's a fine café and a recommended visit!

The Cook/Chef was so rude and abrupt. I asked if I can have avocado on toast with a few other extras and she said no. When I asked why she said "cause i don't know what to charge you" and walked away back into the kitchen. No effort was made to accommodate me at all. I was so shocked at how rude and abrupt she was. The poor young girl at the counter seemed embarrassed at the cooks behaviour and attitude. This was obviously not the cooks business as she definitely did not care. I ended up ordering nothing but my husband had ordered eggs on toast and it was truly just 2 poached eggs on standard sliced bread that could be made at home. Presentation was poor and food was bland and tasteless. The business owner needs to be aware that this Cook is driving people away and is damaging their business. Now I know why they were dead quiet. Never going back and I suggest to anyone..if you want a nice brekky then avoid this place.

My cousin and I went to Mr.Beans Cafe in hope for a nice school holiday lunch, what we got (or what we didn’t get) however was EXTREMELY disappointing. When we first were seated we were greeted with very rude staff members. We got one wrong meal and our second meal didn’t even come as they continued being rude to us. Eventually we just paid for the one meal, which was wrong. The wait time was approximately an hour. As young women, we felt very scared of the staff. Eventually they blamed the wait on us, because of a lack of communication. We highly do not recommend this place to anyone and hope that these people realise what they have done and cook better quality food. We put one star because their was no option to give them a zero, what they truely deserve.

On our last night in Dubbo we wanted to head out for a feed with the family though were limited with places opened on a Monday night. I messaged a friend who lived in Dubbo and they recommended Pizza Cravings as it was very close to the caravan park we were staying in…perfect.
Read the reviews and they were positive, lock it in.
Location is a bit odd to be honest, feels like you’re in the servo car park but apart from that you don’t really notice it once inside.
The pizza selections looked good and we were pretty impressed when they arrived on the table. We went for the smaller size just in case they weren’t great, but left wishing we had ordered the larger size.
Everyone smashed their meals and we enjoyed a bit of family Uni while waiting for the pizzas to arrive.
Staff were great and up for a chat.
Overall highly recommend especially if you’re visiting town and staying at the caravan park across the road.

We are not locals, stopped there after a long drive as we saw "pizza" sign next to the servo. Place was almost empty. Pizzas were OK, not great. This was our first visit here. We tried the house made spring rolls and the Thai Chicken Salad. OMG, they were all amazing!! The salad was huge and filled with chicken. I wish I had taken a photo but it looked so delicious, we couldn't wait to dig in. Will definitely be back.

It was okay. 4 adults ordered at the same time but different payments. One set got their meals quickly, 2nd set they didn't get their meals until the first finished eating and when we questioned if the food was still coming they said it is, while handing out others that ordered quite a while after us. Which was very confusing. Coffee sizes where great and tasted good.

My husband and I have been to many coffee clubs and this one was definitely the worst one we’ve been to. To start off with staff at the counter weren’t sure about the questions we had regarding meals and had to go ask someone else. We ordered an oat latte, way too much froth more than a cappuccino would be, we asked them to remake it and came back the exact same. Ordered a big breakfast with soft poached eggs, this is ‘their’ soft poached eggs, bacon is basically raw couldn’t eat it all. We also ordered a ham, cheese and tomato toastie with onion on brown bread, it came without onion the first time, so we took it back then it came out on white bread instead of brown. Not to mention one of the chefs had long hair and did not have it tied back or anything, not even a hair net on. They were also wearing sunglasses on top of their head with a casual cap on. Around 1pm my family and I had lunch here. The food was pretty good but missed key ingredients in the meals without notice. Do not go here if you are not patient with your food. It should not take 25 minutes to receive fairy bread. It’s the most basic kids meal. Service was appalling with no interaction, food waiting to be served for 10 minutes and tables never tidied with food on plates waiting to be taken away. The waiters should be at guilt for looking at dishes, ready to be served and walking away from them. I recommend they get put in place.

We had the most amazing meals here on the weekend on our trip to Dubbo! The food is absolutely delicious. They serve all day brekky and all day lunch so we had a mix of food for our table of 8 and everything was outstanding. There are no skimping on ingredients- for example the toasted sandwhiches have great quality ingredients and are loaded up unlike most cafes who use the smallest amount possible these sandwiches were fat and delicious. Best chips we have eaten in forever and amazing eggs benedict/scrambled, pancakes and milkshakes all just so good. Plus the staff are all so friendly. Loved this burger bar! We were out-of-towers, and after a 10 hour drive up from Melbourne it was the perfect dinner.
Food was tasty, well made and left you wanting to come back again. We enjoyed a steak sandwich and a Hawaiian Schnitzel Burger paired with chips to share.

There were 6 on our table and two of us got our meals reasonably quickly then the others trickled through over the next 1/2 hour. THEN they forgot our drinks.
