Service was friendly and most attentive - definitely on Hawaiian time, no rush.
Lava Flow cocktails were delicious! Also loved the Old Fashioned. Would not recommend the Mai Tai (one of the worst I've had, but could've been a one-off).
Loved the Pad Thai (vegetarian), Loco Moco, and Wasabi Seared Ahi.

Brennecke’s in Poipu is absolutely fantastic. The Ono Fish & Chips were perfectly crispy, fresh, and full of flavor—some of the best I’ve had on Kauai. The ice-cold beers hit the spot, and their Mai Tais are top-notch and exactly what you want in a classic Hawaiian cocktail.
A huge shoutout to Kat, our server, who was respectful, professional, and incredibly attentive. She made the experience even better with her great service and welcoming attitude.
Perfect beachside atmosphere, friendly staff, and excellent food and drinks. Highly recommend Brennecke’s every time you’re in Poipu! 🌺🌊🍻🥥

Bone marrow:2/5 the only thing I was really disappointed in. Super small amount of bone marrow and lots of grilled onions or something on top that overpowered the flavor

Entree: 5/5 I got the local fish. It was tender and flavorful. Loved the side of mushrooms too. Tried my mom’s crispy Cornish game hen which was tender and very good!!! Haricot verts also cooked well

The menu has a bit of everything, great variety, very seafood forward. Everything we had was delicious.
The service was very friendly, professional, and helpful from the valets to the hostess to the server (Jo was excellent).
The restaurant space isn’t great. It’s very loud (bad acoustics - there were some VERY loud people at the bar and it reverberated throughout); the seating isn’t very comfortable; it was hot and stuffy; and the view is of the hotel’s pool bar and loungers, with a sliver of ocean in the distance. But the food and service make this restaurant a total must.

While visiting Kauai, I unexpectedly ran into some friends that I don’t know were also visiting, and we decided to go out for dinner. I hadn’t heard of Red Salt before, but they couldn’t stop talking about how great it was, so of course we had to try it.
From the moment we walked in, I was impressed. The restaurant is beautiful, the atmosphere is relaxed but elegant, and the service was absolutely on point. The food completely blew me away. The scallops were probably some of the best I’ve ever had, and the lobster gnocchi was next-level good.
It’s definitely on the higher end price-wise, but honestly, you get exactly what you pay for. Everything about the experience was worth it, and I’d come back here in a heartbeat the next time I’m on the island.

The food at red salt from Breakfast, lunch, and dinner was exquisite. I was honestly really impressed with the serving sizes and the dish quality. This was the first time where I left extremely impressed and satisfied with resort culinary offerings. We ordered a myriad of dishes, for breakfast to go on our lanai: tacos and French toast. Very solid, it’s kind of pointless to leave the resort for breakfast when you have a solid breakfast offering as such. For lunch, sliders with truffle fries, which were satisfying and a delicious pairing. And for dinner (in which we had 2 dinners), I had a steak dinner that was cooked to perfection (of my liking) and my lady had a lobster gnocchi with big servings of lobster. I want to give a shot out to the exceptional service of Noah at Red Salt. I’ve been to countless restaurants but he has to be the most hospitable , meticilous, and courteous professional that I have EVER met to tie in the dining experience. Noah provided great recommendations and you can tell he takes great pride in his craft and loves what he does. He made our anniversary memorable and as a result we will always remember this wonderful place and Ko’a Kea resort. We will be back and make this a mainstay in our lifetime going forward.

Pricey but decent food. The focaccia bread was horrible, seemed like it was a day or 2 old and zero taste.
Entrees we had the hen something (whole chicken) and the rib eye (14oz) both were very good. Mash potatoes as a side, tiny portion but decent.
The Hawaiian bread pudding for dessert is a MUST order, delicious.

When researching restaurants on Kauai for my honeymoon Red Salt consistently came up as one of the best restaurants on the island. My husband and I stayed at the Koa Kea but I did make a reservation for dinner well in advance to ensure we could get a table. Since it was a special occasion we went all out and ordered appetizers, salad, entrees and dessert. All of the food was incredibly delicious. The lobster gnocchi was a highlight for me alongside the freshness of the pear salad and my husband loved the sashimi he started with. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, checking in but also allowing us to take our time and fully enjoy the dining experience. I would happily return if back on Kauai!

We wanted to have a sushi and Dolphin Poipu was recommended to us. We made a reservation and was seated immediately.
We ordered cocktails and ordered the shrimp cocktail, lava, hanalei, poipu and sunset over the top rolls. It was definitely enough food for five people.
The restaurant is in the Shops of Kukui'ula in Kauai, Hawaii. There is plenty of parking. If you happened to have to wait for a table, there are tons of fun shops to peruse through.

Adding the star back on because they allowed us to stay on the porch till 5pm when the restaurant was opened. The poke bowl, the dolphin roll, and the chowder were excellent. Also very friendly staff!

I am taking one star off the rating because we went there again at 4pm to enjoy a meal on the lanai. But they kicked us out because they had to start setting up for dinner. We’d already purchased our food and drinks. The chowder was still delicious though.

The service was great! The customer prior to us had lost her phone and the staff went above and beyond to help her find it. She had dropped it over the edge into the garden/bush area. One of the staff went around to retrieve it for her. But, back to the food. The Chirashi Bowl had probably the best tuna I’ve ever eaten and the rice was fantastic. Delicious fresh fish. I love being able to try new varieties and where uku may not be my favorite, it was cooked to perfection.

Best restaurant on Kauai that I’ve tried, hands down. The fish here is incredible, especially the yellowtail with Jalapeño in a truffle ponzu sauce which is the best thing I’ve eaten in recent memory. Highly recommend the calamari which is super tender and very different from others that I’ve tried. The over the top sushi rolls are also good, but I would recommend trying their other stuff first. Book ahead as it does fill up despite what the popularity graphs look like. Great view of the sunset though slightly obscured by some trees.

We got the yellow curry, fried rice with chicken, and the crab rangoons. The food was delicious, and came out quickly. We were surprised to learn this was a chain and not a local eatery with how good the food was. We were dining in on a night with live music, both performers were great and upbeat in involving some of the guests in their music. The only thing we didn’t love were how many birds were inside the restaurant. We had a table inside (not on the patio) and there were at least 2-3 birds on tables around us the entire meal.

This place is a hidden gem! We were going to an Italian place near by for lunch but it was closed and we stumbled across this place. My friend and I sat at the bar and Maggie took care of us and made our experience INCREDIBLE! She is super personable and made sure our experience was great. Not too many reviews on google so we were not too sure whether we should go or not. The sushi was so nice, it felt fresh and healthy. The style and vibe was great too. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server, Lisa, was polite and professional. She was very informative and made great recommendations. The sushi was amazing. The ingredients were chosen wisely to highlight the fish. There was very little use of heavy sauces and unnecessary garnishes (which can sometimes overpower the sushi). They were extremely conscientious regarding a food allergy and made sure to put us at ease by explaining their process of preparing the meal in a way that would minimize allergen exposure. This is a must if you’re on Kauai! Amazing sushi and Japanese food and beautiful setting. Everything I’ve had here is delicious! My favorites are the sushi pizza (I know, it sounds weird), the lobster dynamite (try it with a bowl of sushi rice), and the black rock roll. The past couple times I’ve gone my server has been Johnny. He’s AWESOME! Super friendly and helpful, so if you’re able to request him, I’d definitely do that. We are so glad Stevenson’s has reopened! The food, atmosphere and service were all fantastic. Top-tier sushi and so far the only time I’ve enjoyed uni. But somebody behind the bar needs more practice shaking drinks because we had multiple watery cocktails with ice floating at the top. We are staying at the resort and made our reservation about 12 days in advance of our stay. Based on reviews, we were really looking forward to Stevenson’s sushi. Unfortunately, the strong, fishy smell outside & inside the restaurant put us off of, but we didn’t let it deter us. We had lobster dynamite, ahi, stevenson roll, and a couple other rolls. We requested all on soy paper but received them all with seaweed. Not a huge issue but not how we ordered them. The sushi was not great…fine, but not great unfortunately. Ambiance & bar itself are cool, but we wouldn’t return. Dinner was costly, and not even close to being great sushi. Sad.

Such a nice place for breakfast for the entire family; although you cannot make a reservation, get there a little earlier than you want breakfast and get on the list. You can wait close by and watch people enjoy the fabulous swimming pool. Once seated it has been our experience that food to the table takes longer than expected, for us over the years that has ranged from 20 to 45 minutes. The menu is very good and the server and those filling water glasses and coffee cups are friendly. It is worth the wait for a wonderful breakfast. Because of the usual wait, plan on entertaining young children. Enjoy!

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised at how good this restaurant was. We didn't know what to expect since it's within the resort, but the food is actually really delicious, tasted very fresh, and was big portions. Prices are also fair compared to the rest of Kauai (overall much all food is more expensive than the Continental US). It's open to people not staying at the resort so we highly recommend to anyone staying in the Poipu Beach area!

We have been back a few times and on occasion the service has been a little slow but good. The food has been consistent and done nicely. It is poolside so the ambiance isn’t really great but is clean and relatively spacious. The breakfast menu has something for everyone but we all decided to have avocado toast. It was pretty good except the toast wasn’t that toasty. Pancakes were fluffy and a good amount of macadamia nuts. The kale and arugula salad rocked.

Anyone who has read my reviews on sushi places knows I am a bit strict when it comes to rice. This rice was moist and delicious. We came here multiple times during our stay in Kauai! The açaí bowls were so yummy! The poke was amazing. I loved the poke nachos - they use wontons instead of tortilla chips and the nachos had so much flavor!
The best shave ice on the island is in the parking lot (The Good Stuff Shave Ice). We tried a lot of shave ice places around the island but none even came close to this place! They use fresh purées instead of just syrups (they also have syrups if you like them). Ours was also topped with honey and fresh fruit. Seriously this place was the best!

The grocery section is limited but they still have great beach-friendly snacks and beverages 💓 I’m so glad I waited to get a smoothie bowl (poipu) here instead of the fancier / new cafes on the north shore that cost more and gave less. I go here for the little cafe in the back- the supermarket part is a joke. Random products in random places. I would never get meat from here. Most shelves were empty. The acai bowl from the back counter though was on another LEVEL!! WOW! Generous portion for a small. So good, will be back for another! Small little sushi and poke joint hiding inside a small supermarket on the side of the road. There is a small sign outside so it’s easy to overlook if you aren’t paying attention. Parking lot is small and fills fast. All that being said, you don’t want to miss out on this place.
Amazing food. Fresh and delicious. We had the Gorilla Poke Bowl and a California roll. Both were excellent. The poke was some of the best I’ve ever eaten and fresh as can be. The California roll was the same. (See pictures)
The staff at Makai Sushi were attentive and helpful with people ordering. They kept everyone apprised of possible wait times before getting their food. They made great suggestions regarding the orders. And they were a lot of fun talking with everyone ordering and waiting.

We used to go to this place when they were in Poipu…for our money, it’s still the best sushi and poke on the island! This new location is a bit off the beaten path, but it’s totally worth the trip. We had a party of 5 and ordered an assortment of sushi and the Kauai Curry (pineapple). Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and the service. This isn't a five-star restaurant but if you want something casual and tasty this is quite nice. Set your expectations appropriately. Have been here three times and happy with the food, though the sushi prices are double of the East coast. I chalk it up to Hawaii inflation. I ordered the Bangkok bowl and it is at least two meals for me and I am a 200 lb guy. 16$ and happy with it. Service folks were awesome and we had a great experience for a friend's birthday. This restaurant actually has been renamed and rebranded. It's a Thai food restaurant as well. It's called the Thai bistro. We had an amazing meal. Listen to great music, and had a very reasonably priced beer. I think that the price of the poke bowl was well deserved because we got huge portions and it was delicious!

The food was not good. The poke bowl was decent, but we were disappointed with the sushi. The Poipu Roll was plain and just lackluster. The Jimmy Hendricks roll had good sauce but the fish was just ok and the tempura taste sort of stale. Also, our rolls came at different times and we were nearly done eating when my friend finally got her roll.
The atmosphere was nice with live music. The bathrooms were beyond disgusting, had caution tape and smelled bad. We also had to ask for water and could've used more than 1 refill. I tried to politely express concerns to the manager but he made excuses but did refund 15%. It has potential, but overall I would not recommend.

Overall I enjoyed the Thai Bistro but it’s expensive! The service was fantastic. We arrived at 5:30 and they were waiting on us immediately and got us our food very soon. They were friendly too and I love how they hold a reservation. The food tasted really good and was filling with proportions. I think it’s overpriced though. We got two non alcoholic drinks, egg rolls, two pad Thai, and mango sticky rice and it was $100. Stevenson library was 120 for sushi dinner for us for reference. If the food was $5 cheaper it would make more sense, so $80 for a nice Kauai dinner.

I rarely write a review on Google maps but cannot help but feel indignant to discourage any prospective customer from trying the food here. We ordered a $20 Tom Yum soup with only mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes in a tomato-soup base. No hint of shrimp paste, Thai chili base, fish sauce, lime leaf, and galangal. Very bland taste of lemongrass. Adding shrimp costs $6 more.
The green curry tasted like just thawed from a microwave. The broth was over diluted with congealed oil floating around. The thinly sliced chicken was overcooked and very tough to chew.
I ordered the “must try” crying tiger which is a steak with a sweet and sour sauce. I ordered it medium but it came well done. The steak had grill char marks on it but looked and tasted like thawed from frozen. No juice came out of it while cutting the steak. The sticky rice that goes with the dish came in a plastic bag hoarding inside a basket.
This is simply the WORST Thai food I’ve ever had anywhere and I paid $100 for it. The service was good and the wait time for food was okay. At this price point you must hire a better chef and make food fresh or the customers will stop coming.
